The statement wasn't made about a country it was made about asians and there are many asians living in the west, south, north, and east.

Besides I think it's a little hypocritical claiming that asian countries like grinding when proportionaly more americans play grinding games compared to the total population.

http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats2.htm

just look at the internet penetration rate, more people use the internet proportionaly than in any other area of the world.

now look at asia

http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats3.htm

So you see that if you did a statistical analysis the probability of more people playing games online in this country proportionaly to other countries is much greater.  It's comparing a 13 percent penetration rate to a 69 percent penetration rate. There is basicly no room there for any form of statistical error that would lead to the conclusion otherwise, but there still is a small small chance that I could be wrong.

Wow, who would have thought there'd be so many replies! Anyway, ive been reading through and besides all the bitching i think i gathered some main points. Correct me if i'm wrong but i this is what i got...

WoW will see a migration of PvP players to WAR because everyone knows world PvP in WoW is next to dead despite their efforts. Admittedly Hellfire Peninsula seems to see a lot of action.

I think it's less likely we'll see PvE players move, who would? some people have clocked up over 100 days play time, made friends in their guild and worked hard to get where they are. As a PvE game WoW is good, grind is unavoidable in every MMO.

To be honest, now that I've thought about it i dont think blizzard have too much to worry about. They have millions of players hooked on a game with 'good' lore, myself included as i was an addict since WC2. They can also 'promise' to bring out new content to keep players ticking over and paying their money, even if it doesnt quite meet expectations it would still take more than that to see lots of players leaving.

I still hope WAR does really well and i think i will be playing it. I just think in order for it to succeed well it needs to come out polished and with some sort of free trial(?), anything and everything to get (WoW) players trying it. Oddly one of the big things for me is that i want a game that feels 'dirtier' or 'raw' with blood and guts and cutting limbs off in combat stuff - that just isn't WoW, with it's paper cut out cannons and buildings.

Anyway, not sure how much longer this thread can last, so i'd just like to say i liked the comment about WoW designers catering for the asians by implementing more 'grind', as if that's what they look for in a game... or something

Yeah that asian thing is pretty racist considering that race has nothing to do with your prefrences, as if liking playing games with a grind is genetic.

I like the idea of competition which will improve wow because I am a fan of the game and if it had more pvp I would play it more religiously.

To be honest however I don't see war taking more then a couple thousand subscribers, as in 20-40,000 tops because that's ruffly the percentage of people who play wow now that could actually run the game on there computers. Remember most people who play wow are playing on labtops that they got for college or on old systems that they have back home, and considering that 90 percent of people who play wow are under 40 but older than 17 it seems to me that most simply won't even be able to play it. Now this doesn't mean they won't buy it, I remember I bought games before i knew about computer hardware that didn't work, but it means that it will probably piss them off if they have to run it in sub standard settings.  Why play a game on a rig that is optimized for osmething more powerful when you can play a game optimized for your own rig.  It just looks better.  And yes the graphics in WAR are better objectively but how they will look with all the settings down is anyways guess. VG looked great with settings all maxed out but when you put it on default or medium the game looks worse than wow in my opinion and I believe that other people feel this way too.

I don't mean to be a graphics stickler but when the graphics look bad, as in designed badly not high res in this case, I just can't play because I feel that there's another game out there that isn't necessarily prettier but more ergonomic to my eyes.  I guess I just have ocd when i see a random artifact or something on the screen in an offbeat res that's supposed to be part of the avatar screen or something. Know what i mean?

Just my opinion.

Just extending his analogy and thought process. Based on his complaint that stealth isn't realistic, he would ultimately conclude that a game in itself is not realistic and must therefore cease to play since he also wants stealth to cease existing.

Going by the latest video of the "stealth" class, you can indeed go into stealth, and it's indeed invisible-type stealth.

Though they did say that your surrounding would effect how invisible you were able to be.

An unnecessary aspect in MMOs.  Hopefully it will be done away with in the upcoming MMOs.

Real stealth is sneaking around unnoticed without having to turn into the predator.

And real combat is lifting up a sword and swinging it not hitting some buttons on a keyboard.

It's pretty strait forward if I were you I would go warrior, mage, then priest.  Ofcourse a priest can be an offensive spell caster and a healer depending on how you spec.  A warrior gets boring fast and a mage might satisfy your casting needs.  If you want to cast and attack well then pic a hybrid class like a druid or shaman, warriors get no magic what so ever.

If your goign to pvp at all start on a pvp server you won't actually start fighting in world pvp till later  on so there's no point in leveling twice.

Best of luck.

I say wow, get in before it's too late and new and better games come out...EQ2 and and COV are something of the past.

Everyone is human, everyone's iq is between the ranges of 100-200, and everyone has two arms and two legs unless they've lost them some how.  What makes 100,000 people from random places different than another cohort 100,000 people from random places.  Absolutely nothing because the sample is still from planet earth..

What planet do you live on?  The humans of Earth are not a race of clones. You'll find different groups with different attitudes, beliefs and interests here. Your planet sounds boring - you should probably leave. But then again, our Earth-WoW is full of knobgoblins.

WoW was marketed toward a different audience than most other MMORPGs.  That's why it has 8 million players instead of a few hundred thousand, and why the general attitude of the community is noticeably different.  I've noticed more stupidity, leet-speak, and complete wankery in WoW than I have in any other MMORPG. While I can happily converse about anything in the general channels of CoH or EQ2, the players in WoW typically respond with rude, poorly-spelled insults.

What exactly do you mean by wow was marketed towards a different audience than most other mmorpgs? How so? Please explain, I mean the advertizements are in the same magazines as they were always and i haven't seen any wow commercials with 14 year olds in it so why would you say that wow is marketed to a different demographic oh say than lineage II or everquest II? Please explain because I played EQII i'm in my mid 20's and I feel that wow is catered to the same demographic.

What is the point of these posts? To claim that wow has a worse playerbase then any other game is absurd since every game has just about had the same players in it. Look at EQ2.  Everyone whose played EQ2 or mostly everyone has played wow and were part of the same playerbase they now critisize.  It's insulting to humanity to make these ignorant statements and it makes absolutely no sense what so ever.  I play EQ2, vanguard, wow and of all the games i enjoy wow the most, not because it has the best combat system but because i can actually play it, meaing when i push attack, I attack.  IN vg, eq2 and anything else I just have to time everything right according to latency and its a dog fest that gives you carpal tunnel in the long run.

But the reason i mentioned i play all these games is beause I have a right to speak up and tell you that the community right now in VG is by far the worst ever. Go into a pvp or pve server and listen to the public channels.  In wow when you call someone a nI*g*r you get banned but in these other games nothing happens and that's why the communities are worse, not beause of the playerbase, since hte same players in wow would say the same crap if they could.

JESUS!!!

Don't know if this has been said but I would cream my mittins if I heard that madmax was going to be an mmorpg.  I would roam teh wasteland as a desert vagabond holding a sawed off shot gun.

the majority of wow players were stealthers at one point look it on the statistics.

I play a stealther cause i like to roleplay a thief or rogue...lol wtf does this have to do with pvp mechanics?  No offesne but now i know why I never played warhammer the board game, cause its a lame fantasy game that triees to be different than the rest.  Which it fails at miserably by the way WOW will not lose many subscriptions to warhammer.  Warhammer is a game that will only appeal to people between the ages 22-30 firstmost, second it is a game that will be a simplified version of DAOC.

Fair enough....

One of the big things that the developers of this game want characters to be able to do when going into a fight, is to identify their opponent before you engage in the fight. So, therefore stealth doesn't fit into their ideals for the game.

Also, there will be rogue-esque classes in the game (Witch Elf, and Witch Hunter namely) who have positional attacks. However, in this game they will take more skill to play, because you'll actually have to be crafty enough to sneak up on your opponent (using terrain and other such things to hide yourself).

As someone who played a rogue for 1.5+ years in wow, and have done a lot of end game stuff, I am really excited for this kind of a class. It will, to me at least, be a lot more fun than the traditional stealthers.

I might play it then if this is true, but still i'm afraid that another game with good stealth might cmoe out and hten ill jus thave wasted my time.

No stealth? Come on are they serious, they are  trying to be inovative by removing one of the most integral parts of 1/3 of all players gaming style?

IT doesnt make sense, wasn't there stealth in WAR?

What about the assassin? where is the assasin?

lol, oh man I feel a nice, long, juicy thread coming along.

But no, there is no stealth in WAR, the reason being it wouldn't work in an RvR game. If you actually do some research you'll know why. I'm guessing you were a rogue in WoW? Big deal so was I, it's not the end of the world. I loved stealth, and ganking, but you know what, it pissed me off too. All those cowards popping 6 CD's just to get away from you. I'm glad there's no stealth, leaves more room for strategy.

Closest thing you'll et to a rogue in WAR is the Witch Elf. They have daggers, poisons, quick getaway's, and sneakiness.

What do you mean I was a shadowblade in DAOIC and that worked out great and that game had the best rvr ever....so wtf are you talking about?

Sauron is nothing compared toe hLich King.  The Lich King is entirely original..WTF are you talking about?  Name me one game with a Lich King like the one that's going to be in wow.

Also, no offense but I consider wow more orginal than lotr. Lotr was a synergy of christianity and traditional folk mythology.  I can't stand noobs who read lotr and then its the be all end of all of all fantasy.  IT's not, its a book written by a christian man that symbolises the wars going on during that time, or that's what he said he wrote it about.

Yes he borrows from folklore like all tehse games too and before tolkien people were telling stores along the same lines.  The imagination will do this, and always has, since the begining of man.  Stop reducing schemas over things an dstart learning that trolling is rediculous in nature and aw aste of your own time.

If i had all day to play then yes your ideology would be correct.

However if all I can play is once every 3 days, and I get pked during that short period of time I was trying to play... then I won't play that game since it's a waste of time, after all I lost everything I spent time doing and my time is precious.

Just the way I am.

So in theory your ideology would be correct, but since this is a game designed to make money it is not.  Most players do not want a game that you lose everything you spent time doing when you die.

Leave farming/leveling to non-pvp, and once you accomplish that, then you should be forced to pvp.

this doesn't make any logical sense. You don't get to chose when you die in a game, that's why it's a game. WTF?

You don't have to engage in pvp, just get killed and go to the area of the game where there are carebear protectorates.

Please do not call others players who like playing the game that they like being rip off.

WoW gives content without asking you to pay, but in Eq2 you have to buy every x-pac.

Ok, this is the first one that I felt replying to. You don't know anything do you? Have you even played EQ2 for any length of time? or are you just talking out of your butt?

We get constant updates. New content with every single release of the newest update. And WE JUST GOT A FREE EXPANSION PACK CALLED NERIAK. Next time, check before you say something stupid.

WoW graphics is a continue of their rts game, thats why the graphics is like that. But if you really play WoW you will really have to admire their detail in games. Every node, every block and miss is being show. But what i like in EQ2 is when you pass by a npc, it will turn his head and look at you, which is pretty amazing to me!

WoW made me want to rip my hair out. I was level 26 almost as soon as I started the game and I didn't even finish the free month they give. I will never play it again.

edit: i dont like the harvest part of Eq2 where you are bending around and... i dont know what my chrac is doing...

Its better than having it suddenly appear. You're a crafter, this is what you'd have to do to craft.  The crafting in this game is excellent. You do more than hit one button and wait for it to finish. You're actually involved.

Ive play my toon till lvl 24, hit crossroad and cant laugh about the same name as WoW, even both have WC. ha!

Regarding the new content, nope didnt stay too long for it to happen, And about crafting, its the gathering animations that i dont understand, why am i bending stretching both my hands? you call that gathering herb??? But i like the part where you really do the crafting where you will actually fail sometimes...

EQ 2is a bust down of a game and I'm an EQ and UO vet. It has less chance than vanguard of eever becoming a big hit like wow. My opinion please don't flame.

Good point. Lets not give brad more credit than he deserves.

Yeah but in vanguard you can get coin from killing players. With all the gold farmers and twinks I find it actually very lucrative to pk and gank jigs in vanguard.

Also I am burnt out on daoc as i played it for three years.
