Read First If You Are Considering Buying or Resubbing!
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 6/12/08 9:22:59 AM
I bought this game when the local shop put it on clearance and let it set on my mmo shelf uninstalled. Today I decided after reinstalling EQ2 for the free time they gave out to finally install Vanguard and check it out. I'm pleasantly surprised. The game is good looking, runs well on my machine and seems pretty fun so far. World is empty but I'm mostly a solo player so I'm not to worried about the pop at this point. On the other hand, AoC looked good for the first 24 or so levels. |

Funcom really screwed the pooch with the last patch..

Well, out of curiosity I logged back into AoC and the latest patch didn't seem to make anything much different for me. Seeing about the same FPS and it's still pretty stable. |

AoC - Sadly The Shine Is Off And Reality Sets In - This is barely an MMO
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/30/08 11:17:53 AM
Well, I can't speak for the original poster but the shine is off for me. I like the game. The graphics are ok, the combat system is fun, the crafting aspects suck, and the instancing doesn't really bother me. I am a PVE player. Never cared for PVP. Don't care if I kill you or you kill me. But I just find the game boring. It's fun for an hour, maybe two then I"m off to play something else. I'll keep my subscription going until I go a week without loggin in then I'll cancel it. |

I give it a 5/10 also. It's an ok game. Combat system is kinda neat. Graphics are ok. Bank is finally working. Resource gathering for 1st tier crafting starts at 20, second at 40, I've heard. Crafting doesn't start till 40. I can play it about an hour or two before it bores me. It's fun but it's a casual game for me. I will probably subscribe for a while but it does not hook me like other games have. |

I was in the closed beta for this game and I could see even then that this would be a very casual game for me. It is fun to log into for an hour or so and do a couple quests, gather a few resources for later on and kill a few mobs. I'm not a pvp'er. I much prefer pve games and have my characters on pve servers. The lore is nice, the graphics are ok and the combat is fun for a while. All in all I'm happy with my purchase but it will not take me away from other games I play. I'll keep the account active for that little bit of diversion when I desire it. I will say there are things about it don't like. I didn't like the fact the bank/marketplace were broken on launch. I don't like that I have to wait till 20 to gather tier one resources and 40 for tier two. I don't like the fact that crafting doesn't even start till level 40. And there are things I don't mind such as the instancing. I really enjoyed the tutorial zone and the opening storyline but after leaving it I felt a bit lost for a bit but I'm sure that will pass. |

I gave it a 5. I feel it doesn't suck but it certainly isn't great. I do sort of like the game and will probably continue my subscription past the initial month because I like to log into it for half an hour or so every once in a while. I really enjoyed the tutorial but after that it has become boring. Resource gathering is a joke and I can't stay interest for long enough at a time to level to 40 to see the crafting. It is fun to log in and whack stuff for a little until it bores me again. |

Raids and Phat Lootz a PvE centric game was it not?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/26/08 2:34:44 AM
The game is 5 days old. I don't think there are enough people AT the end game to really know. |

I think you need to re-read what he wrote. He said the first 35 levels were nicely polished. Only after that does it start to break down. Well, other than the whole bank/marketplace being missing.

No bank or tradepost, broken zone, bad account keys shipped, server reboots, and forums accounts broken. Not what I would call a smooth launch but still better than AO so they have learned something. |

I don't think it's a class thing. I'm playing a guardian. Loved the first 20 levels. Been pretty bored with the next few. Thought maybe resource gathering would help but it seems to be bugged after the initial quest. Or the drops are original EQ insanely rare. Time will tell I suppose. |

It is an ok game. I'm having fun and I really liked the end of the tutorial a lot. But resource gathering seems to be buggy and I'm not fond of having to be level 40 to even start crafting. The combat system is somewhat fun but the game just feels lacking in depth. Most assuredly not the best game I have ever played. Probably ranks in about 4th in my list of favorite mmo's. |

So much for "smoothest launch in mmo history". |

Level 21 and level 9 but I work weekends. |

I'm curious are they talking about a game coming soon or a website. :D |
|

Well, I run it on a Pentium D 3.2 ghz, 2 gigs of ram and a 7950GT. Runs pretty well on medium settings with a few things tweaked up a bit. Not as smooth as say, LOTRO or EQ2 but more than playable. |

Game runs fine for me on medium settings. 3.2ghz pentiumd, 2 gigs mem, Nvidia 7950. |

Ran well for me (much better than it did in beta) and I enjoyed the day I spent playing. I will be back for more when I get off work. |

I was wondering what your spin would be on this. |
