I'm rather glad you did explain. I would rather loose 17 seconds than 10 minutes reading through all the ppl that would have replied in total fury over how someone could say such horrible things of the next greatest MMORPG to try to bring down WoW. |

I would have to agree with what most people have said about the game in the forums with regards to promises with little delivery. I believe that the advertisement of what the game offered is what drew me to AoC. The producers offered a new way to do PvP in mass open combat, combat formations for groups, mounted combat, player cities, all mixed into the realm and lore of the Conan stories. All I really got was the Conan Lore and part of the player cities. PvP reminded me of Ultima Online with the feeling of inevetible player killing and having to be on the constant lookout for a PK while trying to read some of the lore during quests is just not fun. Mounted combat is ackward at best along with the non existent battle formations. Player cities do not offer player housing and feel more like giant guild halls. The zones are relatively small and few but are engaging and full of eye candy. There are no rewards for the avid explorers though.
I do not feel AoC is a horrible game. I actually tought it was entertaining and still believe that there is hope for it. It would take a great deal of work from the programmers though to fix the large number of bugs and finalize a product that can be delivered without giving customers the feeling that they had been lied to. I will likely try it again in a few months to see what the state of the game is in. |

It is unlikely that the Mature rating will keep any of the immature players from joining the fun. Most of the better MMO's are rated Mature because the "Experience" may change while playing online. The ratings are only a tool to assist buyers in knowing what type of content to expect and occassionally some stores place a policy to not sell Mature rated material to persons under 18. What is considered "immature" is a matter of opinion and culture. In Europe, many people find it socially acceptable to urinate on the street as long as you are not exposing your genitals (facing the wall for example). Burping and passing gas is socially acceptable in most countries and even encouraged in some. In my personal opinion, I find it rude to burp, pass gas, urinate in front of me, be unnecessarily loud, and pushing. But, I don't make it a habit to call someone immature based upon behavior that is most likely generated from their cultural upbringing. What I do find to be immature is when people make comments or take actions that are hurtful to others based upon their own limited information without ever taking the time to find out why someone may be acting the way they are. I happen to think some immature acts are funny. Hell, AoC even has a perfect setting for lude and outrageous behavior and should probably be encouraged. I just don't want to see the chat channels in game crowding with the annoying arguments about "This is just a cheap knockoff of WoW", "WoW is way better than this", "Go back to WoW and let us play", or "This sucks! I can't believe their charging us for this game!" I'm glad that this game is coming out because I love Conan in all of its fantasy realm glory. If there is some gratuitous nudity and rough language, then in the infamous words of Andrew Dice Clay..."You got the bonus plan baby."

Wow! (No reference intended to the fantasy world). You certainly are passionate about Vanguard. Although I wish I could have found the same enthusiasm for the game I fear I did not. It is a truly amazing land to explore and I enjoyed most of the time I spent on it. I hope that most of the graphic bugs have been worked out. I made it to level 24 Ranger before it became the usual drag of an MMORPG. I agree with all of the things you said about Vanguard and salute you for a positive (although lengthy and slightly repetitive) posting. Good luck with the game. |

My four year was recently introduced to LOTRO. He would play all day if I would let him. I do however limit him to no more than 30 minutes on LOTRO on the ocassions that I let him get on at all. Of course, he cannot type nor does he have a true interest other than he knows he is doing what his dad likes to do best. He has so far figured out how to move around and do some basic fighting with his Guardian. He does love to look at the map to figure which way he is going as he picks a destination to explore. I stand by him to make sure he does not get mauled by the wandering creatures of Middle-Earth. I think I have grown a monster though. The childrens educational games are too simple for him and he gets bored of them rather quickly. Maybe I should groom him to play professionaly?? (nah, I'll hold out for Doctor)
He's the second of the youngins in my household who enjoy the gaming. My 14 year old daughter is also an avid fan of WoW among others. She is the one that convinced our oldest (19 years) to get into Guild Wars. A feat that I was unsuccessful at myself. I never thought I would ever see the oldest one get on a computer for anything other than downloading music or vid clips. Now to work on the 3 year old...parenting is hard work. |

I have been thoroughly enjoying the game on open beta. I even decided to pre-order a few days ago and have joined with some other players to create a kinship. The aspects I like the best are the great detail in the art and the towns. They development team has obviously put a great effort into re-creating the image of Middle-Earth as it is in the books. Sure, most of the features are features that are found in other MMO's, but it would have be ludricous to believe that any new MMO is not going to include the popular features from other MMO's to placate the masses of whining bloggers and forum attention seekers. What has saddened me the most is seeing these masses constantly taking over the "OOC" channel in the game, resulting on my changing the color of the font to something that I now ignore to avoid distractions. I am used to seeing that during the initial release of past MMO's so I expect that the annoying complaints will dwindle down within a couple of months from initial release.
