Yesterday Blizzard opened up free character moves to those of us (myself included) who were concerned about long queues. I won't be moving though, pretty much all my characters are on an RP server or RPPVP and the transfer is to a Normal server...so I'll be staying put. Hopefully those who say "lol? wut iz rp? lol" will move.

Originally posted by pewtpewt Although I do like and play World of Warcraft daily, I will blame 'shock culture' for this one. When the game came out, it was a big deal to us RP'ers that Warlocks and Shadow Priests were alliance...just didn't make sense and our guild stuck to the idea that either you serve The Light and reject shadowmagic or you do not (hence neither class permitted in the guild). Then, as more shock and awe there was the Death Knight...also alliance. Spin the story however you wish, it's the same idea repackaged cold and with glowing blue. *sigh* I thought a hero class would be a hero...but perhaps gone are the days of consistent truth. Even the Lich King story (and dare I say physical appearance) seems recycled from the Lord of the Rings books/movies. Magic item, used, corrupts user, now they're the ultimate evil. |

Actually it brought ruin to the "fanboi" if your definition of such is those who always play (not sure of the definition candidly). I don't know if I qualify as a fanboi, but I started World of Warcraft in August '05 and had played nearly daily since. Post-release of this latest expansion, I'd been sitting in a queue. And sitting. My main servers were locked with an excess of 1,000 people waiting at about 40 minutes. Being that I work during the week, I hadn't a lot of time to sit, so I started over on a low population server. Very little Northrend, irrated by all the unoriginal Death Knights (which is why I hadn't made one) and a whole lotta people I never saw before when I did get in my home servers. Why is this? It is not the fans of the game that have been accomodated here, but those powerlevelers who got bored and quit until there was a new high number to reach. Then, in a month they'll quit. Then Christmas (late powerlevelers) and a month later they'll quit. February will show the return of a great game, then the powerlevelers will log back in here to complain and our communities will go their separate ways once again. |

Upgraded to Gold membership over the weekend, this is what I recommend doing for the original poster. If I had days upon days I would just play free-to-play but the 4.99 Euros ( ~ $6.30 US ) is rather inexpensive to get more experience and credits to the more casual player. |

It's starting to steady out nicely. I do like the sharpened graphics and shadows, a big help. Servers are still a bit jam-packed and it is counter-intuitive to restrict Death Knights to the same server they're on even if it's a high-population / locked servers. It looks like a way to guarentee a queue. Instead, I've started over on a low pop. server...so not much in the way of exploring Northrend until things calm down. I predict two weeks before Christmas until Christmas will be a good gap-time to jump on and work the new lands. Then, it'll probably be February until things return to 'normal'. |

A shame, it was a good topic I thought. Though the trolling was predictable, I'm not sure it's a good reason to ghost the thread. |

My point would be that they're both feathers, just in another colour. Your point would be they would still be different because of colour. I cannot make someone see similiarities if all they're looking at it one minute dissimilarity. If a minute difference makes it a brand new exciting experience, then the good news is you'll always find entertainment. |

Not only that, but when they're in the cold snowy lands of Dun Morough, you can see a little white puff of breath coming from their breathing. Oh, and your little vanity pet cat, you can see his breath too. Attention to details... |

The calendar was a big help for our roleplay guild. Everyone can schedule events, write details, set a time and get confirmations. Since then we went from having one event per quarter (because it's hard to get word to everyone constantly) to one per week. Voicechat isn't really a roleplayer's tool and don't know anyone who does voice-acting with it, so for that one I give a "meh" but know why it's important in a raid. Looking forward to the battleground with vehicles since I really really like the flying mounts. |

Blizz is under more and more pressure these days to keep up with the Jones'. In that situation the customer wins, so I'm grateful for it. They seem to be responding fairly well overall and are trying to pluck things off of their customer's wishlist and deliver. As long as they continue this progression with more frenquency than the 2005-2007 years, that'd be good. |

I was merely pointing out the poster who was criticising the graphics acknowledged it was art...so they're in the same boat with me ^_^. Notice the poster did not call it 'crap'. That was your word and candidly many fine arts have been called crap before as well. |

There's a lot of good things to be said about the game. I know many gamers are graphics junkies (and in part I am) but from a tactical and playability standpoint this game is a whole lot of addictive fun. The concept is simple but the intricacies are not only there but fairly true to form to history. After playing the game for a weekend, I managed to have a rather civil discussion about WWII naval history with a co-worker of mine who hasn't played it. It's a great free to play game, is a change of pace from the dime-a-dozen epic quests game, and is built for those who like to have the option to either play a 20 minute battle or play all day. History buffs and tacticians, this is your game. |

Since last patch they have done a nice graphics upgrade. Before my computer was greater than the graphics they could provide...but not anymore. When was the last time you turned the graphics to full tilt? Granted there's no cure for not liking the artwork, but appreciate the acknowledgement that it is indeed art. |

Here we go again, downtime again today....
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 11/14/08 9:49:03 AM
Although am glad the expansion is out, I got ISP drops (which are a very very rare event) about every 30 minutes last night and 40 minute queue with 1,000+ in line on my main server where I have my 70. ISP dropped 3 times but there was no loss to anything other than internet (cable model, cable in house worked and everything). It looks like there was either a bottleneck from all the users or booting out by the game due to the high volume. I don't blame Blizzard, I'm glad they had a huge release, but am hopeful the wrinkles can be ironed out soon. |

World of Warcraft: Free Character Transfers
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/14/08 8:00:40 AM
This is comforting news. For the first time in quite a while there was a long queue on my main server but this time with a 40 minute wait, 1000+ people ahead of me. I checked available transfers and there were none posted last night, but could be because of the launch. It's the right way to handle the situation as previous offers for transfers appear to have been successful. |

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Launches
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/14/08 7:44:59 AM
I'm glad the expansion is out, but have run into a share of problems. The main one is getting booted off of my ISP every 30 minutes, then a 40 minute log-in time. I think previously I've only been booted 3 times total in the last 5 years. I'd called my provider, they're kind and try to help, but I seriously believe it's game traffic causing the bottleneck. If I were in a low pop server with my 70, I wouldn't have the wait time, so I started playing my teens and 20-somethings on low pops to move them up :-D. I got a glimpse of the new world and am overall happy with the changes implimented in the previous patch. Hopefully things will iron out today so that when I pop on tonight I can get back to the game I've been rather attached to over the years. I'm glad Blizz had such a huge launch...now let's iron out the wrinkles. |

Agreed, I've had problems with 4 slots in the past. It's a very touchy thing to have more than 2 slots sometimes and found a greater chance of disagreement errors between sticks or even one stick not being recognized with 4. |
