WoW has become a lobby game.
LoL has always been a lobby game.

WoW is played primarily solo and the limited group action requires no interaction.
LoL has to be played in groups of 5 and interaction is a must.

So why is it WoW is declared an MMO and LoL is not when LoL actually contains as many if not more MMO qualities than WoW.

I would say that survival shooters like H1Z1 are the next big thing. I would also say it's only matter of time till Hearthstone becomes the most played online game.

Is either one of these games qualified as an MMO? I don't know and frankly, I don't much care. What I do know is the next big MMO won't crack the top 20 games played list for longer than a month.

You forgot 'Massively' in MMO. The simultaneous player interraction between players is very limited in LoL versus WoW. Its not  'Massively Multiplayer'.

WoW being a lobby game? Thats your personal opinion. I personally don't think so, when I think of a lobby game I think of LoL, Dota2, WoT, etc. You're not adventuring in a large gameworld, you're waiting in a lobby for a game to start. Sure, WoW has implemented some lobby-like features such as group-finding, etc. I still don't think you can consider WoW a lobby game.

As for staying somewhat on topic, I have no idea what will be the next thing for me. I want this new amazing MMO, but maybe I'm just to naive to think that will ever happen again. I might need something drastic to happen with the genre, a new era if you will. Maybe VR can help with that? Who knows.

My radar is currently in passive-mode. Star Citizen is probably the next "semi-big" thing for me, but not the end-all-be-all MMO.

To me indie has always been revolved around being independent. More often than not, independent from a controlling higher structure, which gives them the ability to build the game exactly as they see fit. They don't have to listen to investors, publishers, etc. They follow their own path, they're being independent.

So for me personally? Star Citizen is definitely independent, or "Indie" in this case.

I personally don't understand why the choice of combat system either breaks or makes the game for certain people. I don't mind either, I can play both, but I have a preference. If a game has combat X instead of combat Y, I don't consider that alone gamebreaking. It can't be easy being a gamer, much less a MMORPG gamer, when a single system or mechanic decides whether or not you'll play the game. I honestly feel sorry for all of you with such a strict mindset. :/

As for the choice of a more active combat for LM and EQN, I personally approve of it. It looks very early, unfinished and unpolished right now, yes. However, I do definitely prefer a more action-oriented combat. Games such as TERA, WildStar and even to some degree GW2 comes to mind. Fun and engaging combat one of the few things I actually enjoy with these "new" MMORPG's. Now, before some of you come "Those game failed, look at the sub-count!" let me just say this - Neither of those games failed or succeeded solely because of their combat system, anyone who claims such a thing is delusional at best.

Edit: Also let me just mention this, the lack of a trinity-like system in some of these games (GW2) makes me want to kill myself. Now that is a system/mechanic, or better yet lack there of, that can break a game for me. So I guess I kind of understand people making it out to be such a big deal.

Secondly, given how early we are in development of LM and even more so with EQN, I'm actually going to give SOE the benefit of the doubt on this one. Right now the combat definitely leaves much to be desired, however, I'll wait before I can try it out in EQN beta. If it hasn't been changed, improved upon by then, by all means - cry doom & gloom as much as your heart desires.

So what your saying is is that CR has turned into a greedy, vampire publisher but without the normal checks that come with having to actually account for your spending to someone? Gotcha

you take a calculator in your hand and tell me how there is a "profit" with 300 employees in 5 office locations working around the clock getting paid for 36 months and onwards ?

What the hell is your problem, GTA or SWTOR had a cost of 300-400 millon and 95% profits are feeding into shareholders, do you get the concept difference, maybe? But 70 million for a crowdfunded space sim, 70 millions that are going into the actual game getting made, is somehow "evil"?

What is your vested interest to demonize a crowdfunding success? Got some publisher shares that are not yielding profit so you need to bash CIG?

Well since you seem to have access to his accounting ledge would you mind telling me how much he pays those employees? Can you show me where he allocates his money to? For how long? How about if a module misses his deadline? Does he put some aside for emergencies?

No? You can't tell me that? So perhaps you need to think before you type something that you have no way to back up.

also SWTOR Might have cost somewhere between 150-200 million. GTA 5 cost 265 million to develop and market so you seem to love exaggerating which makes any valid points you could make hard to believe.

I have no vested interest to demonize the game. Read some of my other posts where I say how I would love for this game to be the next big hit. perhaps it's you who is a little hurt that the potentially hundred of dollars you dropped in this game might go to crap when the hype kills this before its even left the gate?

We can't back up any specific financial or accounting information, we can only assume.

Looking at the pretty decent quality of expertise with many industry veterans, even expertise from the movie industry. We can only assume that the pay is at least avarage in terms of what a game developer gets in the US, probably a bit better.

Naturally, I can't back this up with cold hard facts. However, this together with the overall attitude of the developers, the willing to crunch for each module release. The spirits seems to be pretty good overall, which probably wouldn't be the case if they were underpaid.

Of course there are profits, like with any business. We can only assume and hope that they're putting away for the future, since they plan to support and develop this game for a very long time.

I personally haven't backed or purchased anything Star Citizen yet, however, I do think that the people who are screaming "scam!" are overreacting a little bit. Cash shop with extremely expensive items isn't anything new, no you're not forced to buy any of these. These items will all be available in game comes live, you have no real advantage having these items besides time. You'll save some play time since you don't have to grind for the items ingame. Much like how many of these cash shop items have worked in the last couple of years, its nothing new.

I probably wont buy SC till we see the game actually launch. I'm interested in the whole package, not these random modules with small gameplay teases. However, people need to take a few steps back and stop taking everything to personal. I would never buy a ship for more than 50$, especially not if I can one day earn it ingame which is in my opinion part of the experience.

TL;DR Let people spend their money as they see fit.

Nothing, but not because I didn't want to.

Haven't done any impromptu buying of games for years, longtime unemployment sucks. There was a few games thats on my wishlist that had a pretty good discount though. Maybe next sale I'll buy something nifty.

Leaving out flying in WoD was easily one of the best decisions they could've made.

Reason: Read all of the great points made in this thread thus far. Flying adds very little, while taking away far more from the game.

Alright, sounds good. I'll definitely check it out when it comes available here in the west. Definitely not putting it on my "radar" though, I'll skip the hype train on this one.

I wouldn't say that I'm happy, I'm more impressed than anything really. Blizzard doesn't succumb to the sunc-cost fallacy than oh-so many in their position would have. Blizzard values their reputation for making good games. (Ok, hello Diablo 3. Blizzard also has the balls to admit when they've done something wrong and aim to fix it to the best of their ability.)

Blizzard, from what it sounds like, didn't have that top-notch game. With the recent, literally hundreds of "flops" in the MMO genre, they know the market is extremely tough right now. They likely had a decent game going, a game that probably would've fit in pretty decently in the market right now. However, Blizzard aint about that. They're about being the #1, or #2, if they think they can't do it, they wont do it.

They've realized that they can't beat themselves, i.e WoW. I personally haven't picked up WoD yet and I probably wont, I'm just not into that type of MMO anymore. However, from the looks of it, seems to be a pretty good expansion so far.

TL;DR - They did the right thing cancelling Titan. How so and why? Because they did.

It is open world PVP with consequences, but you will have the choice to play solo, so no one to gank you or anything like that. My only worry about this game is this game is nothing more like EVE Online 2 The resurrection.

My only worry is that its NOT 'EVE Online 2', as you call it.

EVE with all of its flaws and ugly mechanics is by far THE best Sandbox & 'Space MMO' out there, hands down without a shadow of a doubt. Some of the things EVE does right can be considered genius.

My dream game would be if SC made a "merge" with EVE in terms of design, mechanics, player freedom & impact. (Not actually merging the games, just taking the best bits and pieces from EVE and implementing it in their own game.)

This talk of a "PVP Slider" and "9/10 of the population is an NPC" makes me shudder, in my humble opinion, wasted potential. I'll still definitely try SC out when it comes out, I just wish they didn't take this casual approach to their game as they seem to do.

I'm even skeptical about EQN having just a standard open world PvP ruleset available, while you're talking of 'Full loot' and things of similar nature?

Don't mistake this for my personal preference on the matter; EQN and 'Full loot' will never happen. I'll be very surprised, and happily so mind you, if they even have open world PvP available. I'm however suspecting a much more casual and consensual PvP in EQN.

I've been playing on and off since 2006, its an amazing game that is in my opinion wildly underrated. Its a game that from the outside perspective is hard to understand and wrap your head around. And yes, when I hear the term "Spreadsheet online" I smile because I know it refers, as OP said, to the complexity and depth of EVE.

To people saying that the community is toxic; I say this, the community of EVE is so passioned about their game and their universe, I have literally never seen anything like it before. The level of politics, the level of depth & complexity, personal responsibilities, the level of impact a single player can have on the game... its impalpable.

As soon as you realize this as a player....

I would create a large team of developers and put them on making WC4.

Nuff said really.

I sympathize with OP, I really do. Its sad to see how some people just can't play a game they have invested quite heavily in.

However, before you claim everyone who tries to argue you point as "fanboys",(Not saying you do or that you will) you have to realize that not everyone has had the same experience as you. So they will try to defend AA, as they rightfully should, since from their perspective it might've been a pretty decent launch afterall.

The basic gist of it; This sucks, if OP is telling the truth which he seems to be. Why wouldn't he? Trion needs to get their act together a little bit. Secondly, the fact is that not everyone had a bad launch. I've had a very smooth launch, but I also started on Day 3 of headstart on a freshly started server. (Aier, EU)

From what I can gather, the general consensus seems to be that AA had a pretty shitty launch. Lets hope they can recover from this, because the game itself isn't half-bad. Its actually pretty good and can be very fun if you look past a few of its shortcomings.

TL;DR This sucks, you have my sympathy OP. I hope you get everything sorted out and maybe you can enjoy AA for what it is.

After watching JP stream this game all day, I have no interest in Destiny what-so-ever. Not until they stop with the linear gameplay and recycled content. Will probably never happen so, meh. Next!

I think there's plenty of evidence at this point that the game is nowhere near as big as people thought it was going to be.  The fact that they used this Google Viewer the way they did feels really lame.  Mess with it a little, then compare it to what the Google Viewer really does.  I don't know, to me it just seems unnecessary and further exaggerates what the game is supposedly offering.

Don't get me wrong, I think it will be a fun game.  It certainly looks like another solid Bungie title and they have brought me the most enjoyment in the past when it comes to FPS games.  However, there's no doubt that the marketing is blowing what the game actually is out of proportion.

Indeed, we're in the same boat you and I.

I for one wasn't impressed by the planetviewer at all, it felt extremely streamlined and linear. If the game is even a fraction as streamlined and linear; it'll be a very bad thing. It didn't hype me for the game at all, it actually had more of a opposite effect unfortunately.

In Destiny each planet has ONE playable area - example Earth has old Russia - and thats it. Can you go to Asia, America or *any* other areas - nope.

So each planet has only one playable area - do the math.

Even though I never was planning on buying the game at release, your statement just killed the little hype there ever was for me. I hope this isn't true, but it has indeed been one of my biggest concerns and worries regarding this game.

Will it just be another console title as we already know them, or will it be the true "next gen" that we all want? For that to happen, Destiny needs a large open world to explore with very little restrictions. That's like key, it's so important, otherwise it'll just fall flat.

this title will be a revolution for PC gaming, and gaming in general

I don't agree. (With the footage comment, not the revolution thingy opinion of yours.)

That was probably the most anti-climactic ingame footage I've ever seen. Now granted, the person flying obviously wasn't that used to flying in a 3D space environment. Even though I'd reserve my judgement till I see better footage, the gameplay looks a bit too arcadey for my taste. It looks a bit slowpaced and too forgiving.

I really like the flying mechanics in ED, if they can come up with something that feels quite similar or even better, I'd be totally down for that. However as I said, I'll reserve my judgement till I can preferably try it out myself at a future date. (Waiting on the game to get a bit more into development/polish, maybe sometime next year. We'll see.)

Other than that, the cinematic trailers and teasers coming out from RSI are just completely and utterly breathtaking. A solid 10/10 on those, without the shadow of a doubt.

It was just 7 days trial account.
And the trial has passed.

How could anyone use it, even if it was hacked ?

What I guess that they have some kind bot , banning accounts. But its faulty , would not surprise me that thousands got random suspensions.

I was banned a couple of days ago for no god-damned reason at all. It took me over 4 ticket responses to get them to reveal what I was suspended for. (It originally said: Violation: WildStar Account Notification: Suspended. Apparently it was revealed to me what it was because of suspected 'Third-Party Violation') My account was active, paid for an additional month, had saved and grinded up two CREDD's as well. I founded a very successful Mining circle on our server, ran a few arena games and got banned the following day. (14th July)

To anyone who claims "don't hack". I'm a MMO veteran for far over a decade and WildStar has been my favorite MMO for a very, very long time. I would never no something as stupid.

The problem is, as an innocent, you can't do anything. You can't talk to anyone, you can't get them to manually investigate your case instead of just letting their detection bot handle it and never even care to double-check. In my case, if they actually look through the logs or whatever their system is, they'll find out that their detection system is flawed. Extremely so.

How come I see literally chunks and trains of bots teleporting around collecting resources, AFK-bots in BGs, weeks after week. And legit customers like myself who completely loves and cherish the game with already many hours played, get punished for no god-damned reason at all.

I repeat, their detection system is extremely flawed and their CS doesn't seem to realize/care nor do they obviously believe you. If only one of them would get off their high horse and just manually investigate the issues they would reveal the truth of the matter. Bloody amateurs, my god.

I'm currently in the same boat. My account was randomly suspended a couple of days ago and I'm still waiting for a reply from Carbine's CS crew.

"Account: <snip>

Action: Suspended

Violation: WildStar Account Notification: Suspended"

They didn't even give me a clear reason, I'm still trying to figure out why my account was suspended.

I've had 2-Way Veri. since day one.

My Twitter conversation with WildStar:

My plea for help via WildStar Subreddit:

To anyone claiming "stop hacking". WildStar is the best MMO for me personally in MANY years, I would never do something as stupid. Even in a game I didn't like. I'm a MMO veteran for far over a decade and I could proudly say that before this moment I have never been banned.

There is a first time for everything I guess. Now for the first time I know how helpless you feel when you've been punished without knowing why or what you did in the first place. There is literally nothing you can do, no one you can talk to. And everyone thinks your a "hacker", ugh, I even shrug at the notion.

EVE cinematics, world class.
