A lot of potential, but I've been burned before...

Alas, we all have unfortunately.

I feel that I've gotten better and better handling upcoming releases that I'm interested in. The key for me is to stay sort of hands off; don't get to invested, don't spend hours upon hours reading/watching videos and don't participate in any super early alpha/beta. Let the game grow on its own pace, we'll try it when it goes live.

That way, if it turns out to be sort of bad, I'll be disappointed but I can easily move on. I'm not going to pre-build an entire castle of plans, ideas, hopes and wishes based on a game we know still very little about. Only to have everything run out in the sand when you realize that very few of these goals and wishes can be achieved.

Personally I think watching mods locking threads and banning users every 3 seconds when/if the game releases and the hype train explodes spectacularly will be more fun than playing the game itself

I think I've seen you said that before in other SC threads, either that or someone else with exactly the same fantasies as yours. Its a weird way of living you life in my opinion, basically frothing at the thought of SC's (or any other game for that matter, it happens everywhere) release being a clusterfuck and fail. Why would anyone wish that on a game, especially in a genre we're all fans of. If you're not, why are you even here at this point?

I'm personally somewhat skeptic towards how SC will turn out; but that doesn't mean I don't want the game to be the best it can be. Of course I want it to be the Best Damned Space Sim Ever, who would'nt? That would be a  good thing, damn it! How can seeing an outrage from a disappointed community be fun, that's so weird.

Also, in before you say that "I never said I wanted SC to crash and burn", of course you didn't.

Since the earliest days of F2P people who are willing to shell out thousands of dollars have always been compensated with generous advantage over regular players players.

Now developers have realized some of those people are actually foolish enough to shell out those thousands of dollars before there is even a game.  Lucky developers.

As we can see with Star Citizen. It's a weird Trend that i can't quite explain. Logic would tell you that paying for something that is not finished and never has to be finished is a foolish thing, but for some reason gamers either don't care or have too much disposable income.

They happily pay $100+ for Early Access or even completely unfinished games but at the same time i see them complaining about $60+ for finished Console games.

Makes no sense...

Wow, talk of tarring everyone with the same brush. Are you saying that you know exactly who, in this sea of millions and millions of gamers, are willing to spend +$100 on EA while at the same time complaining over a $60 Console game? No, just no, please stop. Some people complain about expensive games, while others(probably the majority) just don't care.

Star Citizen is a weird game though and I can definitely agree that spending so much cash this early on is risky. I personally haven't even bought the $45 package yet. I want to see the game in its full glory before I make a purchase. While at the same time, if someone bought a SC package for $425, I couldn't give a rats ass. Good for CIG to find a market, a group of gamers willing to flesh out hundreds of dollars, long before the game is done. Good on them.

I'm confused, they never had a particularly large chest(in game standards) to begin with. The new models doesn't look any smaller than the old.

I am for one quite pleased to see this, the combat in WildStar was probably the best part of the game. (For me personally)

So I don't mind this one bit.

I haven't really followed the Kickstarter scene and the common practices, but I feel like the guys behind Crowfall did a spectacular move.

They essentially took the time to create hype for their game, before they actually starter their Kickstarter campaign. Instead of letting their Kickstarter campaign do the job for them, they did it the other way around. So I'm very curious as to how well this campaign will do, if CU can raise $2mil they should be able too. I definitely think Crowfall can match that, maybe even double it at this point.

I guess it all comes down to how well they match the current hype with the campaign tomorrow, they need to be able to match peoples hype and carry it further.

This will be very interesting.

I'm looking forward to see the first glimpse of gameplay. I might back this project if they make a really good effort in convincing me.

Well I don't know about anyone else but I am happy you wont be part of the community there.

Its an obvious troll-bait; everyone knows one single person isn't responsible for a game success or lack there of. Especially when we're talking such a big title, with publishers and investors thrown into the mix. There is so much going on behind the scenes that we don't even know about.

Also, no I'm not a fanboy. I never played DaoC nor have I backed CU, I'm just aware that you can't blame one single person for how a game turned out to be.

I don't think it even matters anymore when CU comes out tbh. Everyone's interest in this game has completely vanished.

And yet they just hit 3.1 million in funding ?

I don't give a fuck, they haven't shown one gameplay video and the game was announced 2 years ago.

So they raised 3.1 million, and we haven't heard of any complaints from backers. But you show up, and say it's a scam, because you haven't seen any pre-alpha vids?

k.

Yes as a potential customer a lack of visible gameplay is a bad way to market your game. So fuck your 1.5 years i'll not give this game another thought.I've seen early stage kickerstarters have more video footage than this game that was backed 2 years ago.My comment actually gives this game relevance now considering the forums are dead.

You talk of marketing as if there is actually a marketing campaign going on right now.

Let me just say this; there is not. It would be very stupid to have a marketing campaign at this point, hell the game isn't even in Alpha yet. You're mad because the game isn't done yet, well, there isn't much anyone of us can say to change your mindset.

Just remember this, game development usually takes time. Kind of known around these parts.

It seems highly doubtful to me they will finish all the items on the publicly released PAT #4 checklist in the next week. So I'm expecting at least a few weeks perhaps a full month delay.

The dividing line between pre-alpha and alpha is entirely arbitrary and fully at their discretion, so I suppose give them credit for not simply declaring alpha to begin on time last August or next week if they haven't met their own self-imposed goals for that milestone.

Exactly, well said. To bad the majority don't see this, they're incapable of seeing the bigger picture.

I can't stress this enough, expect a delay. Alpha will be here in due time, let CSE prepare and do what they feel is necessary. If they don't end up needing to delay; great!

WC4 could be the game that rekindles the somewhat stagnant RTS genre. The Warcraft games is basically a combination of RTS and what todays "MOBAs" has become. (Which also, ultimately, came from Warcraft originally.) Think about that for a moment; we already know it works well with WC3. Its a fun game, its also very fun to build bases and look for expansions. Its even more fun doing it while controlling a hero together with the rest of your army.

A WC4 could, potentially, be huge if they manage to bring over even just a portion of the MOBA fanbase. That together with the already existing and established scene for RTS (SC2), it could be a huge title. Blizzard knows this and I'm more than certain that they're doing their research and planning to see if its indeed viable. They know the RTS scene is very stagnant, they've spent tons of resources on SC2's expansions with very little hype behind them. (Besides the hype that comes from the already existing core of fanbase, albeit large, not massive as it could be.)

Worried about lore for WC4? I'm not. Look what they did with the most recent expansion for WoW (WoD), they changed the timeline. It takes place in an alternate universe. They could easily take the same approach with WC4, they could pick up where they left off with WC3.

Will WC4 ever happen? Who knows, I for sure don't. I'm hoping though, with every fibre of my being. I've been waiting for a new Warcraft for a very looong time...

Another delay is obviously very possible and you would do yourself a service by expecting a delay at this point.

I don't think Crowfall made CSE to tremble as much as people like to think. It obviously goes without saying that they looked it up and discussed it. Its competition, they would be stupid if they didn't. (They are not stupid, they are industry veterans.) Secondly, I believe the guys over at CSE has a pretty solid timeline and plan for what they want CU to be. I don't think Crowfall has had any major impact of their development.

I haven't played this game for quite some time. Have they brought online an EU server yet? I couldn't stand playing with ~200ms and constant rubberbanding.

Looks fun but i think i will wait for ships to hit warthunder. There is always something... kind of plastic about Wargamings games...

Yea, I think it might be related to the fact that Wargaming seems to be more focused on arcade-y gameplay. I personally play both games, although I play more WoT for its fast and arcade-y matches. While I play War Thunder for its almost simulator-level gameplay.

World of Warships is just a fun game, I'll definitely play it once it goes live.

Its funny to see so many who literally can't wait to see this crash and burn, only to being able to sit on their high-horses laughing at everyone else. I don't see the harm in a group of people being excited for something. While I can't understand for the life of me the point of sitting and actively hoping for a game to not deliver, only for the chance of being "correct". There are so many games out there that I'm not interested in, what do I do? I'll tell you what I don't do; waste my time & energy on it and I certainly don't wish for the game to crash and burn.

Secondly, people claiming Star Citizen to be a "singleplayer space-sim with co-op features". Even though its very obvious that they're building SC to be more than that, so what if it were true? That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, there is definitely a market for that too.

Thirdly, people need to stop comparing the scale of EVE battles with SC's 50-100 (Whatever it'll end up being; seems like this number fluctuates slightly.) and realize that EVE is a very different beast. In the large-scale battles of EVE you're more often then not sitting back, somewhat relaxed, following the commands of an FC. (fleet commander) Even though I wouldn't recommend it, you can literally play with only one hand using the mouse, a "clicker" if you will. (And a surprising amount of players play this way too.) I've been a part of fleets with over hundreds of participants in EVE and let me tell you; its not as dramatic and "epic" as it sounds. Its usually extremely slow-paced, with plenty of time to yawn and ponder your role in life.

Now, since SC is played in a first-person fashion where you're actually in direct control of you ship. From what we can see in AC (Arena Commander), combat in SC will be extremely fast-paced. Even though we haven't seen much besides small-ship gameplay in AC; I can guarantee you - You'll never find as fast-paced combat in EVE. Which is why, expecting fight with more than hundreds of players simultanously, even if it were possible tech-wise - It would such a clusterfuck it would most likely give a new definition to the word.

I can see even a 10v10 fight being extremely busy work; this is not your avarage fps-game. You're flying a god-damned ship in a fully three-dimensional space. Ya'll need to stop looking at the numbers and just imagine yourself for a moment actually being in a fight with 100(!) or even "just" 50 other players. You'll be exhausted when that shit is over and done.

(Thought experiment; Open paint and start placing out dots; count them and place 100 of them. You'll be surprised how large of a number that actually is. Now imagine 50 of those dots trying to actively fight the other 50 dots, in real-time.)

Personal disclaimer; I'm not a SC fanboy, I haven't pledged a single dollar. I'm just optimistic for SC because it has potential, while I also realize that it might not be the end-all-be-all space sim super-mmo. Its just that I don't see the point of sitting here and hate on it just because of that fact. No game is a 100% guaranteed success; that's just how life works, nothing is certain, especially not game development in this genre. (As we all know by now.)

Its funny to see these announcements, reveals and sneekpeaks of major parts of the game in great detail. While in your mind picturing everyone who still goes "When will they deliver an actual game? Star Citizen vaporware this, p2w that."

I'm slowly getting more hyped for SC, I'll probably buy/pledge as soon as either the first iteration of PU comes or SQ42. Looking forward to playing the final game. I miss the countless of hours of EVE, just can't get myself to get back into that game. I'm going to hold off and use that space-itch towards SC when it gets released. It has the potential to be something incredibly huge and I can't wait to see if they'll manage to pull it off.

I'm not too excited for Crowfall overall(yet, I mean we've seen nothing of the actual game really), but the fact that they decided to go with a more action-oriented combat is interesting to me.

I don't mind tab-targeting, I can play a game with those mechanics if the rest of the game is worthwhile and interesting. A action-oriented combat is, however, so much more interesting to me. So I'm all for it, I guess.

I was expecting more because of all the "I'm impressed" comments, and the title.  I thought they look very unpolished, basic and unexceptional. Maybe in a year or two the models will be to a state where I would mirror your sentiments.

Yea, I wouldn't really call them anything out of the ordinary at this point. I'm not sure if they need(or even can) to be either, since CU seems to be focusing on big RvR fights in general.

I wonder how they will look in an actual game environment with a high player count. That'll be the true test and that's where it actually matters - in game.

These look pretty good and I can't wait to see them in-game, in 1080p unedited footage.

LoL is online.

LoL has defined group roles.

WoW has become a lobby game.
LoL has always been a lobby game.

WoW is played primarily solo and the limited group action requires no interaction.
LoL has to be played in groups of 5 and interaction is a must.

So why is it WoW is declared an MMO and LoL is not when LoL actually contains as many if not more MMO qualities than WoW.

I would say that survival shooters like H1Z1 are the next big thing. I would also say it's only matter of time till Hearthstone becomes the most played online game.

Is either one of these games qualified as an MMO? I don't know and frankly, I don't much care. What I do know is the next big MMO won't crack the top 20 games played list for longer than a month.

You forgot 'Massively' in MMO. The simultaneous player interraction between players is very limited in LoL versus WoW. Its not  'Massively Multiplayer'.

WoW being a lobby game? Thats your personal opinion. I personally don't think so, when I think of a lobby game I think of LoL, Dota2, WoT, etc. You're not adventuring in a large gameworld, you're waiting in a lobby for a game to start. Sure, WoW has implemented some lobby-like features such as group-finding, etc. I still don't think you can consider WoW a lobby game.

As for staying somewhat on topic, I have no idea what will be the next thing for me. I want this new amazing MMO, but maybe I'm just to naive to think that will ever happen again. I might need something drastic to happen with the genre, a new era if you will. Maybe VR can help with that? Who knows.

My radar is currently in passive-mode. Star Citizen is probably the next "semi-big" thing for me, but not the end-all-be-all MMO.
