I tried really hard :(. Sorry but nothing is good as WOW
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 5/07/13 7:06:19 AM
Originally posted by doodphace Umm...you proved their point. That is where you said you wanted 9 years of content. WoW did not launch with any of that. No LFR, no areans, no BG's, a single raid which was bugged to hell and back, no heroic dungeons, no group scenarios and a few dungeons. Current games launch with more endgame content than WoW did when it launched. That is why they said you are expecting current games to launch with 9 years worth of content by comparing it to all WoW currently has. No game is going to launch with that much. They will build it over time just like WoW did. But today's customer base is not as patient and continually expects the same in the launch of a game in comparison to something that has dozens of pathces and several expansions. Not going to happen. So even with your clarification their point stands. As for the OP, grats on figuring on what you enjoy. Can't say I'm in the same boat as I am WoW burned out and just don't find it worth the time/money investment any more. We all have our own tastes though and wish you luck in your gaming. |

[Column] General: Where Have All the Roleplayers Gone?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/29/13 12:04:07 PM
The article would have probably been better served with a title of 'Where did the roleplaying elements go' because the RP'ers are still there. They are just like every gamer out there and trying to find that one game out of growing ocean of games that fits their needs. They are spread out from one game to another. GW2 has an active roleplaying community as I am a mod on the site for the roleplayers of that game and we get several new folks every single day. TSW, Lord of the Rings and heck, they still have a strong community in EQ2. But the elements presented by games have dwindled. At the same time you can say some games are changing that like Wildstar which has elements in it. I believe Everquest Next has spoken in regards to roleplaying and Camelot has stated they will have a RP designated server if the deman is high enough which means some voices have been raised in the first place. So yes, rpers are out there. They are scattered and sometimes not as vocal since they feel some developers/games simply ignore what they say *coughs* ToR *coughs* but there is generally a RP community in almost every AAA MMO. |

Yeah got to admit I find it a bit hard to believe. Only thing I could guess is you logged on a non-peak time, starting area, etc. But I just rolled through the starting area on my server last night and it was crowded. Heck, Divinity's Reach had to send me to an overflow. Plus I'm a mod on a fansite for the game and we just had a surplus these last couple of weeks of new players so yeah...

Lol I swear this forum is full of doom and gloomers who just want to see every game fail. There has been no mass exodus. Because you as an individual do not like the game does not make up for an entire population. Every one has their own enjoyment and desires in a game so no, they may not equal yours. The large I am in is still growing, the forum I'm a mod in still gets new applications every single day and the areas I go on my character is still crowded to the point to stir lag with special effects. Not to mention the overflow I get when hitting Lion's Arch. So really people...move on already. If the game is not your cup of tea then fine. There is a review section so type your thing up. But making up silly and imaginative thread titles like this does nothing for those interested in the game. You just look foolish. As for the gear progression thing....not my cup of tea but can care less. For one, it's not that much different than the other top tier gear. The differences are small to say the least. Two, because they put it in there doesn't mean I have to work on getting it. I don't think any are putting a gun to my head to do it. Starting to think some of you believe the Mayans and think the world will end on 12/21/12 or whatever the date was. |

Originally posted by Quedo Yep. Because that is the whole game. Exactly! I mean they really meshed the entire game into those 12 levels you did. Everything you did in those whopping 12 levels is the entire game up to 80... Now that I am done with my sarcasm my point is you haven't even seen most of the game. I thought it would be a bit dull too after those first handful of levels but as I progressed the events got more diverse and some were rather adrenaline rushing like fending off the centaur with the Seraph after taking their camp until there are just too many centaurs and the Seraph yells 'Retreat!' and if you don't you'll get your butt handed to you in the swarm. Then turning around and trying to take the camp back. Yeah...that's just helping the farmers and the like and same ol' dull stuff. Those 12 levels of yours told the whole story! |

Do you see yourself playing GW2 past 2012?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 10/10/12 8:26:02 AM
Maybe it's me but threads like these are what is wrong with this genre today. We seem to WANT games to fail. The OP pretty much paints that as a desire and the reasoning behind the poll is they feel it will be. Is it really that difficult for folks to either like or dislike a game then move on? Why in the world do we want to see so many games fail when the better these games do the more options we have. I don't know about anyone else but I love having options instead of being pigeon-holed. In any case, the question can not truely be answered til the customer base sees the direction the developer wants to take with the game. How do we know what they will install 3 months down the line? Do we know how often the expansions will roll out? Not to mention these days doesn't seem like a lot of folks stick with any game too long so it may all be a moot point anyway. It's like gamers have developed A.D.D. or something. As for my opinion on the game, I'm enjoying it and that is all that matters for me. I like it, so I play it. The future is in what the developer chooses to do. MMO's are evolving and always changing or adding to their foundation so it will depend on the swiftness they interject into their game for the latter days. Since my crystal ball is broken makes it rather difficult to forsee at this time. I have none of the issues stated in the OP and the endgame is exactly what they said it will be so kind of hard to be surprised at what is presented there. |

Maybe it's me but when I see threads like this I sit and wonder...what more do you want? All they are doing is telling you they are aware of the problem and working on it. What is the point of them posting that same message every week. To make folks feel better? I don't know how words will do that when you are fed them every week or so. They are aware of the issue and working on it. That's about it. I know I reported one I saw and he was gone within the hour. Not sure what else folks are reaching for here. And saying you will encourage others to not play it....why? Are you the messiah of games or something? If someone likes a game or not should be left to that individual. Never understood the need to influence anyone else's decision. When someone ask me about a game I tell them the good and bad and tell them to try it for themselves. I'm never going to try to influence their choice even if I don't like the game and there have been quite a few of those. |

WoW has the most diverse Environments out of any MMO?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/08/12 11:18:46 AM
Well let's be real here for a bit. WoW has been out how long? Something like eight years? You add new areas and lands with big patches and expansions so who is there to compare WoW to? You said GW2 but it was released a little more than a month ago...what do you expect? For them to unlock every area upon launch and leave nothing for their expansions? And their lands are more diverse than what you are giving them especially since quite a bit can take place underwater as well. But many lands are obviously waiting for expansion like Elona and such. No other games with some resemblance of population have been around as long as WoW and they are the only ones you can try for this comparison at this stage. Maybe EQ2 but I didn't fully explore that one to know of all the lands accessible there. What I did see was rather diverse but I didn't like the presentation. World felt clay like to me. |

[Review] Guild Wars 2: Raising the Bar
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/04/12 8:30:35 AM
No complaints here. Still playing and enjoying it myself and already trying to anticipate what the expansions will be like especially when I hear those who played GW1 talk. The world is new to me so it is refreshing and past players make it seem like I have more to look forward to. Hopefully it keeps up since I have yet to find a game that has held me overly long except for WoW or FFXI. Too many mmo's have fallen short for me in recent times so this has been a breath of fresh air.

Official Xfire Topic - Population is declining
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 9/28/12 9:03:37 AM
This is so silly to me... So according to this Xfire which a poll has been illustrating barely anyone who plays the game even uses (myself included) GW 2 is declining since launch. But also according to these forums and xfire or merely posts TSW is declining or merely not gaining any new players, WoW has not had no increase and SWToR is dying. If that is the case where is everyone then? Or maybe it could be that most of this is really not much in regards to trending information like some wish to believe. Or there are other factors like GW2 released before school started for many people. Polls (since folks seem to enjoy them around here) illustrated a majority of the playerbase was in the age of the average college student. Within a month time school starts which means less gaming (well unless you don't like to give your studies as much time) and less hours that go to that xfire thing for the few handful that even bother to use it. Guys really...not sure why this deserves yet another multi-page thread when according to everything from polls, xfire and posts all the newly released games and WoW itself are in a decline or seeing no increase in activity/numbers. So all this information in the end provides absolutely nothing. |

I said it before but I guess I will again... Where is this freaking grindfest folks are talking about? I feel like I get xp for every darn thing I do in the game. I think if I have my character go to an outhouse to take a piss I'll get xp for that too. You get xp for hearts, DE's, crafting, viewpoints, finding points of interest, gathering, sneezing, avoid cracks on the road that would break your mothers back, skipping rocks over the lake....okay I am exaggerating but you get xp from so many directions that it is hardly anything that could feel like a 'grindfest'. I remember FFXI in the beginning when it took hours to get a level and that was only if you didn't lose xp after a bad pull or something. As for the story I like it but it's nothing over whelmingly good in my opinion. It's alright so nothing for me to push myself to get every time. Only reason I do is because of the rewards you usually get. Otherwise it could wait while I finish doing one of the many things I can do during that time. |

I went with 'Not sure' though I believe I lean toward no but sometimes you never know what can happen. I think it will come down to the monk class and if they truely bring back Horde vs Alliance. Those are the two things that could make me give it a try. Monk because I am a martial artist so I love anything to delves into that. If it gets a good review then I would take one from level one, put all my 85's on ice and ganks their resources and start all over again. Yeah, could be better if I didn't take the gold from the others but who let's gold go to waste! *smiles* As for Horde versus Alliance, it is an aspect I enjoyed in vanilla. I miss the Taren Mill and Southshore battles (RIP Southshore) and the open world fights. Don't know if they intend on bringing those back or not as I haven't bothered to look into MoP but I'm sure I'll hear something from friends who still play. For now enjoying my time in GW2 but nothing says I can't play two games. |

I have no problem with those who enjoyed their gear grinds or just the progress of gaining that new piece of gear. What I do have to wonder about is why are you in GW2 forums talking about such when this game never advertised to be that type of game? It has always displayed itself to be exactly what you see now so harping about it at this point is kind of pointless to be honest. If someone leaped into this game and didn't know this it isn't the games fault but the individual who did not do their own research into mechanics of the game. For me GW2 is exactly as it advertised itself to be and I am having fun because of it. I knew what I was getting into and knew it would of the makings that I actually enjoyed. I didn't go leaping into Darkfall when it came out because I knew I did not enjoy the FFA PvP mechanics behind the game. It would have been rather pointless to do so then turn around and complaing about the game for doing exactly what it said it would be. None the less it seems we continually see posts complaining about such an issue with GW2 as if it lied to them or something. |

Originally posted by MMOExposed LOL what? WoW is more of a grind than GW2 though I will say it is less grindy than some others. I'm sorry...but finding levelling grindy in this game seems to be a stretch of the imagination or you just want everything handed to you on a silver platter. Sometimes I think I can walk around in game and sneeze and get xp. You get it from gathering, you get it from crafting, you get it from discovering new things, you get it from achievements, you get it from WvWvW, you get it from DE's. Hearts? Please. I have done them without trying because a lot of the time they are damn smack where the DE's are taking place so you end up doing two in one stroke.
What else can you expect to help you with the so called grind? You can stay in the freaking newbie area and still get xp. Why you would I have no clue but it's possible. To call this game a grind is ridiculous. I played games that defined the word 'grind' and this isn't even in their ballpark. No one seems to want to put in even a little effort for anything anymore, shesh. This is far from being like a second job unlike some other games in the past. |

So far the only thing that has bothered me is the overflow server. While I rather play than wait in a que the amount of times I'm tossed in an overflow is making it difficult to get with friends and others at times. I'm sure things will even out over time eventually so I am just being patient and waiting. Otherwise I have no issues thus far. The game is actually running better than it did during beta for me and everything else has been on point. I have ran into any bugs and only Sunday did I have some dc'ing issues that they obviously cleared up.

Always depends on one's style or at least in this game and what you are seeking to do. If you mean levelling I have found greatsword the best because the aoe is a godsend in dynamic events. So basically I prefer greatsword and long bow in this situation. Dual axes is also very good but it doesn't have the mobility that greatsword provides. Dual swords is alright but I found it lackluster (which agitates me because I prefer swords to axes) to greatsword or dual axes.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: SWTOR - The 'Singleplayer RPG'
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/25/12 9:51:13 AM
As someone who intends on cancelling their ToR account today and hasn't been playing it for the past two months (I know I gave away free money...idiotic of me) I can fully agree with the article. The whole 'single-player' argument is very flawed in my opinion. I had more groups questing in ToR than I did in WoW because it was never needed. Heck, other than dungeon runs I was always el-solo because there was absolutely no reason to group. Everything was faster by yourself. None of these games are really different in this aspect. So saying it is a single-player MMO is just a stretch. There are many things to be thrown at ToR for falling short but saying it isn't a MMO is not one of them unless you want to call all the other AAA MMO's that as well. |

How will the 28 September release of Pandaren influence GW2?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 7/25/12 9:34:27 AM
Originally posted by Rusque Pretty simple. While a lot of people will do as you stated a majority will not. Yes, GW2 doesn't have a sub fee so folks may do as such but there will more folks he will only have time to focus on one game. And then there are those who understand it may not have a sub fee but realize they will want certain things from the cash shop as well so would rather not get a sub fee from another game on top of this.
So yeah a lot of folks will have both but in all likelyhood not a majority. As it is many polls show the player range more among the working class or college students. At that time of the year their time is restricted. I know as a working man I sure as heck won't be spending time bouncing from one MMO to another (*mumbles* Especially for some pandas...) so it all comes down to time restrictions. While many did so with GW1, this game is a different animal. |

Finally played the beta. Sadly, not impressed.
Beta Weekend Event Reviews & Impressions (Archived) « Guild Wars 2 7/23/12 11:59:11 AM
Definitely didn't feel as you OP. I've played all the titles you spoke of and GW2 game me a much better feeling. I absolutely loved it and tried to limit my playing to not ruin the experience upon release. But then again we all see things differently and have a variety of tastes. Not to mention we all look for something different in a game. So nothing wrong with you not being impressed though I am not sure what actually will impress after reading your post. Part of me is saying try TSW or maybe even wait for something like Planetside 2. I never tried the first version but intend on looking at the second at some point in the future.
Hopefully you can find something you enjoy out there. Best of luck in your search. |

2012: Overall, it's been a pretty good year for MMORPG's
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/16/12 12:20:55 PM
Eh, I guess it's been alright for me for one reason: I have not went back to WoW. Usually I always end up going back but I haven't since SWToR released. Unfortunately, ToR lost my interest like two months back and I have barely bothered to log on except for a pvp match here and there. Yeah, I'm giving them free money though that will end for certain next month with GW2 releasing....if not sooner. So for me not going back to WoW after being disappointed by one MMO or another is an achievement. It's so easy to return what you know the most but I think I have finally had enough of the same ol' treadmill that is WoW. I have no interest what so ever and the expansion of pokemon and pandas hasn't really made me want to change my mind. |
