Never review an MMO before the 45 day mark

Now, running reviews are cool, I like those, and they work. "Today is day one for me, first let's discuss Character Creation and the first few hours, first impression..." and you actively UPDATE YOUR thread or start new ones. Those, are acceptable and appreciated. Idiots that post "MY WAR REVIEW" go into long details, good or bad and pass judgment... folks, let me let you in on a secret, most people reading those, are laughing at you. There is no possible way you can get a feel for an MMO inside of 30-45 days. You can give an impression of the start of the game, but nothing more. =-== Please bother to read the thread if one is going to comment, save me the time of pointing out your obvious "I read the title so I knwo what's going on" posting. |

RvR - Ranged DPS needs a hit with the nerf bat?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 9/19/08 7:59:30 PM
HEHE, OP. My Squiggy seems underpowered as hell, and I top in the top 3 in kills and damage. But I get very few KILL SHOTS. Most of those are the damned melee DPS classes.
NERF WITCH HUNTERS! ;) |

Just gonna toss this out there, to all you would be reviewers, trying to give "the word" on WAR, or any future MMO you might think you have the insight on.
Beta time is just that, Beta, and the game will be different live, so toss that bone out now.
WAR is a different game then the beta was for me so far. More clean, less focused, more a--hats.
What you see in an MMO is just the "tutorial" stage in a single player RPG played out over 5-15 levels. Slow introduction into the meat of the game, the mechanics and eases you in. Some faster, some slower. Now, running reviews are cool, I like those, and they work.

Please, take the time to let the chaos of Launch wear off, the newness go by, and then write a well written, non-ancedotal "Well I was in this one area and I saw all I needed to know.." considered review of a game.
WAR won't shine till you break 15, that much is obvious. The real MEAT of the game won't be felt till your back against the wall and the hordes of Destruction are pounding on the city gates (as we should TYVM) to claim your capitol, rape your women and eat your foodz!
Till then, shush, save yourself the embarressment, and us the wasted time, on your "reviews". |

Starman, SOME Quest givers do that, some don't.
I've killed lots fo crap, come to a guy that paid me for it.
Killed other crap only to be sent back to kill said crap for a horn, or a bone or some crap.
Difference? I only had to kill one for it's horn, or it's bone... |

What game are you people playing?
I had to playt he game for a bit in low low rez mode, and it was kinda bland and disconnected, I upgraded my rig with new RAM and a 3850 card, and it's come alive for me.
Me thinks you played at a friends house. |

Brevity is the soul of wit.
"WoTLK is more of the same from Blizzard, more rehashed ideas played out in an unpriginal new land. More grinds, more gear, same gaol, same method... why should I spend another 18 months doing the same tired mechanics?"
Wall of text, pwned. |

I've hoped this would pan out. In DAoC you saw this, before the expansion. The selfless nature of the game world built around TEAM winning vs. MY GEAR.
WoW Brought the MY GEAR, MY REWARD system and honed that crack to purity. And I for one got annoyed by it quickly.
WAR so far, you see the "I need! me me me me" I can even spot the gold farmers so far, which amuse the hell out of me, what are you farming for again? I digress, but you DO see people working together, players helping others, sacrficing themselves for the team to win. The Temple Scenario is a good example of this. Someone gets the artifact, and the rest of the team deos all it can to save that person.
PQ's where people will hang around to help strangers finish that round.
It's a beautiful sight to see... so far. I Really hope as people get more used to this mindset equaling success we'll see more of it. I think what helps is, that you don't need to grind crap to get something.
You get something for helping the team, and gear isn't the end game... thank goodness for that too.

We kinda went the wrong way, got caught up in the MAW and went exploring. It was AMAZING seeing the end game, empty, no one there (there were NPC, I meant people) and the areas quiet. It was an incredible experience, we even found a "world plunger" that was fun.
The thing I noticed most? The way the areas changed from RVR to PVE. As you moved away from the inevitable city, there were few if any mobs, lots of NPC but no mobs. As we moved on, we started seeing hositle lvl 40 mobs, and down to lvl 32 before we finally reached an area so dense with critters that we had no choice but to book it out.
Quite a fascinating thing, to see the game, live... but all alone :) |

Okay so you're saying the end game is different. I'll concede that a little, however how you get to the end game is virtually the same. If by that you mean you do things to gain gear and level, yes. Both have quests, both have "grind", both get you to the "end game".
There are two differences. 1. You can PvP, PVE, or mix the two to get to 40 in WAR (You HAVE to pvp to get to rr80) WoW, you basically have to PvE. 2. The reason you reach the end game is different. In WoW you reach 70 (soon 80) to run the high end scripted events to get a shot at a peice of random gear. In WAR you reach the high end raids on the enmy capitol and taking down the enemy. Nto gearing yourself up.
Taht to me, makes the two as different as Pancakes and Waffles, only my Pankakes have blueberries in them, your pancakes are jsut plain. |

Pappy, the point of WoW is to grind for gear against nominally the PvE enviroment. Even the PVP (AV being prime) is geared around this.
WAR is about the WAR. The end game of both is as wildly diferent as you can get. The end objectives are as different as they come.
And your wrong about the graphics, I was running in T2 Scenario today, and I felt like I was playing DAoC 2 rather then anthing WoW like. If you played DAoC for long enough, you'll see it's ghost in WAR, and it's a beautiful thing to see. |

I Wish to take a moment to compliment to thank you all for having the brains to READ this thread, and appreciate the SATIRE this was meant as.
Unlike WARHAMMER ALLIANCE... I posted this, in the appropriate forum, to get a laugh from them. What did I get? Flamed, attacked, warned and the thread buried by a mod.
I'll stick with MMORPG thank you very much.

For me... it's gotta be the High Elves... all of them.
HATE THEM. White Lion? Boring, Sword Master? Ballerinia with a sword. Archmage is weaksuace and the Shadow Warrior is a recycled scout from DAoC.
Pansies the whole lot.
Otherwise, I like all the WAR classes aside the aformentioned high elf. |

So your job is to help "stupid" kids take care of easy, basic computer task? and while your at work you get to do what you want online but you spend your time trolling the mmo war forums? I'm.. not trolling. I LOVE WAR, and am amusing myself. Tehy pay quite a bit. I was being somewhat sarcastic about the level of support I provide. It's a sunday evening, there are 18 people here and 5 are watching football. NOT MUCH for me to do.
So I pass the time. |
