this is a fair thread for a change :)

it seems people are realising that its all just opinion at last :) my opionion is at high end VG has no competition at all. eq2 is better at low end but at high end theres no comparison. Of course, just my opinion :) But for the fighting a mob and being too far from them....lets face it thats always been a problem with these games. I remember going on raids in WOW and eq1 & 2 and its always been the same :)

Ok just read through the whole article and yes pretty much the same...i agree with most of it, other than the boring content bit! i have played most mmo's and am big enough to admit that the general content is pretty much bog standard and the same as any other mmo, eq, eq2 wow, lotro etc. (i am a 7 year eq vet btw ) so to me i dont understand how one game can be great content and another boring when theres no difference other than name. yes there is a lot of inbetween land in a huge world, but lets face it once you have travelled and unlocked the riftways it makes no difference. and although touted as a huge world it really isnt that big at all. play eq and run across the karanas and then youll see how big and empty a zone can be. end of the article...spot on. no one can say at this time if VG will recover or if it's too late.

But ill play while its still here :) till of course something better appears, which at the moment there is nothing else any good to play.

i think i can be classed as a vanboy and for the parts that i read i have to agree. although i love the game and think that the present game does not deserve the hate it recieves i also have to admit that it's still a long way to go to apeal to the masses and ,...yes it was the biggest disapointement. i admit i didnt read most of it as i already know what the problems are..

could you tell if it is worth reading the whole article being a vanboy? and i dont mean that sarcasticaly. i mean is it just another rant or would i find it worth my time and interesting?

By the point i mean, it's getting boring playing this silly love/hate game.

Can we start using forums to discuss games again? does it really matter if one person loves this game and another hates it? simply out, no it doesnt. whatever thread gets started here it always degenerates into the same old argument...some love it, some hate it. myself i love it and no matter what people say i like to play these games, and lets face it i would rather play the best game out there than nothing. and to me VG is the best mmo out there. i love fantasy and love mmo's and there is nothing that beats VG at the min. ok yes there are some more coming out, but untill they come out i cant play them! and untill they come out with no problems then VG is still the best there is for me :)

People keep talking about ctd's etc bugs and general lack of polish, but dont forget that VG has a knack of playing different for each player, whether they have the same pc or not. Heres an example: i have a really average pc. 3.2 duel core. 2 gig ram. gforce 7300. the only time i ctd is if i enter a chunk thats down. i try it twice if the same happens i simply dont enter that chunk again untill a later date. FPS? strange one this. all i ever hear is "i am not gonna play a game unless i have constant 40FPS! why? no really why do you need 40 fps all the time? before you go calling me names i really get confused here as i play every day and the game runs smooth for me yet in the open i get around 15 fps and the wierd thing is recently i get higher FPS in citys? i really dont get the FPS thing at all! maybe it's just my wierd pc or something hehe.

But anyway ( i have started doing what i am asking us to stop :) ) lets stop the arguing and let people who dont like the game carry on not liking it. i am pretty sure if someone wants to give it a go they will whatever we write. hah i have even read posts and spoke to people in game that even gave it another go because the game gets so much stick. they simply want to see what all the arguing is about.

Bah forget it lets have another argument :) VG is the best out there and all you who say you dont like it are just so obsessed with the game that you cant leave it alone for for 5 mins without speaking your mind lol. come on admit it the game is a hundred times better than release and is easily the best fantasy mmo out there and will be for the next few years!

Tell me how you expect a buisness to carry on funding with nothing coming in? do you really think that soe brought VG in the understanding that is was nearly ready or on schedule? of course not they knew the state it was in but still went ahead and brought it. and so far thier desicion is being proven right. they released early yes and that hurt and scared a lot of players but all they are doing now is trying to gain trust back, and thats exactly whats happening with me.

Soe's best friends are the people who constantly scream " i hate soe" the reason why?...because your average player that dont hold grudges gets sick and tired of it all and decides to see for thereselves.

 

I hope you dont take this wrong, but i hope you understand where i am coming from when i say you are a sucker, you either believe in the bullcrap, or you really want to believe in the bullcrap. So again, sorry to say you are a sucker, but for you to believe in SOE and believe what they did is the right thing to do, then you are a sucker and would believe in me telling you that santa clause is real and is coming tonight.

second thing! i have not been suckered and i am not making excuses for them, i am just simply bored listening to all of you trying to tak me out of plaing soe games. you all act like i used to when i was 17 years old...yes i held grudges then but then i grew up and realised that the people i held a grudge against do not give me a second thought, so its a total waste of time. you will realise this one day i promise. for whatever reason soe released the game and in whatever state is irellevant to me...i play the game and enjoy it! tell me what is wrong with that? i really dont give a crap about politics and i am no pretender either...if i wanted to talk politics all day i would choose a better platform, to come on a game board and try to act like you all know better is bordering on ridiculous to be honest....take the skills you think you have somewhere more fitting i chalenge you, no of course you wont as deep down you know you just dont have what it takes, for god's sake all this is a gaming site and how difficult can it be.........

Thats probably when VG lost most of it's staff...they resigned haha! it was so bad then that i found it hard to talk to friends as thier text dissapeared in 2 seconds of being sent due to gold spam.

HA! i remember hearing my first gold offer on eq. it was at that point when players realised just what was happening on the internet. it seemed crazy that people were selling in game items for real money. I have never ever brought any items or cash in any game and never will. though i do admit to being a bazaar addic in eq :( i used to browse, buy low and sell high! but that doesnt really count as an exploit i think.

Yes the spam filter is working much better now but i still get the occasional " you have lost connection to the chat servers" but its more rare the last 2 weeks. a few are still getting through though but i am on a personal quest to report everyone that i get.

Depends how you look at it. to me SOE are saviours as i play the game and its much better since they got involved! also if the game hadn't been released early there would not have been any money to carry on with the game. People who enjoy the game will apreciate the fact that the game did not get put on a warehouse shelf and forgot about.

When soe stop improving the game maybe a lot of you will be proven right, but untill then lets just let it lie shall we?

Try to remember all that when referring to VG is fixed that VG was never broke! Now certain parts of VG were broke like code/performance and maybe class balance etc. But the basics of the game are not broke, they might not be your tasts sometimes but they are not broke! If you dont like the gameplay then stop waiting for it to be fixed, it wont ever change for you. If it's only bugs and performance you are waiting for then wait a bit longer to be blunt. there are still some bugs and performance could still be better. If you dont mind the minor things and are prepared to look past them untill they are fixed then by all means hop in and try it. And VG will never be "finished" either! it's a dynamic mmo that has no end and will constantly evolve untill SOE decide to call it a day, which lets face it is going to be a while.

Oh ye and to the guys/girls getting at vulture for his response to a post...are you kidding? he applauded a post and got it in the neck for trolling lol....do you realise what 80% of people reading that were probably thinking? Ok now i can't be sure they were thinking the same as me but if i had to bet i would put £100 that 80% were thinking the same thing......GET A GRIP!

Drus sated that the free trial of lotro does not support the full game graphics or high res as hes says! is this true? because if so i am well dissapointed with the games publishers as that is the reason i didnt buy the game. If you play the free trial the graphics are nowhere near to VG quality. I wonder why they did that? i played the free trial to see if i was going to buy the game but after the 7 days there was no chance because on my system the game was no where near what i expected.

I am also on of the people that play this game with low FPS mine stays around 15 and sometimes hit 25. Its in no means gamebreaking for me as the game runs smooth other than when i first enter a city it seems to take a few seconds of eq spin to sort it out. I am now wondering if i have just got used to bad performance and dont notice it now lol. or is FPS just not as important as many make out? i hear about people saying they wont play a game unless they get 40 at least! but mine seems to run quite smooth at 15? i have an average rig but is there anything i should be doing to push it up? i mean obvious things that everyone should know about lol.

i see what you mean how most people would take that, but i am sure there are enough iplayers out there that realise every opinion is biased :) how can an opinion not be biased? dont get me wrong i think i am very honest when it comes to the state of the game, but the fact is i enjoy the game, it's just my style of game :) i have  played eq.eq2 lotro wow and had a little dabble in the online FF game and this i the first game since Everquest that i have really got my teeth into. But at the same time i can give an real honest answer as to why they are giving free time to players that cancelled 60 days ago.

Simple, players that left after GU2 are not going to see much difference with this patch. Yes performance increased slightly, but not enough to make a difference to most pc's! mine seems smoother but has little to no FPS increase. Only khal really got new art work added. i dony suffer much from ctd's in any case so cant comment. Raid content from what i hear has a high ping which can be unplayable, but i am sure they will work that out in the coming weeks.

The best part for me was the class tweaks that they added. Anyone who would love a Ranged Ranger will be dancing if they like the game :) My ranger has become what i always dreamed him to be :) his most important equip is his bow.

then again my optimism may be due to the fact that i am currently level 39 and the content available to me is making this game great! there is content and quests galore for me at the moment :) so yes i am sorry but i am biased!

Could someone put up a post with questions on the things they want changing and maybe present players can give an honest opinion of what has changed. That way at least players coming back can get a quick heads up of what has changed. i myself can try to answer a few as honestly as i can ( fact is i like the game so i am biased :) )

Cant answer that to be honest i play the game with music of and always have done with games :) but i would think the music is still the same friend as a lot of people used to comment on how good it was! so if thats what your gripe is and you cant play without music i would not bother.

Daillybuzz i just popped on to reply to your post and say that i am in no means attacking you and as i said before i usually find myself agreeing with you. If there is one person i do take notice of when they post it is you friend. You put in a valued opinion ( 99% of the time :) ) and i have read you post both negative and positive things about VG. for myself i think i offer a fir opinion that people looking at maybe giving VG a go could trust. Yes my opinion is biased, of course it is! thats what an opinion is but i still think i am fair when i talk about the state of the game.

But really i did not mean to slur you attack you in any way and i hope there are no bad feelings friend :)

Im a VG player friend you may say a vanboy. and all i can do is agree with you there, i am a little worried about that myself as i fondly rememer the old eq grind and loved it. i do hope that with the added content they also spice the mobs up to cope with the influx of better equip etc.

Every game out there on their offical forums has ranters who want this and that fixed. I will never rely on forum posters to tell me how much a game is good or sucks. People berated and trashed AC2, but my experience with AC2 was awesome and is the same with DDO.

 

 

No, I am not kidding you or anyone else. Generally, people do rely on forums, press and critiques to get an understanding of a game UNLESS there is a free trial. VG has no free trial and the question of "why not" must be addressed. The worker bees would like you the believe that VG is top notch and will not entertain any thoughts to the contrary. My point is that SOE doesn't see VG as top notch or ready to persue all the players that the worker bees direct to it.

 

The threads I have linked go far beyond your typical "ranters" who are asking for trivial additions. These topics are about stability and bugs, which are characteristics of great importance to most players. The fact that worker bees have danced around these issues and continued to make honey is a disservice to potential players. I, on the other hand, am trying to help those potential players have a better and more realistic experience when buying or resubbing to VG.

EDIT: Just read through the rest of the thread and yes, IXBreaker is correct about where I am coming from (just in case you understand his explanation better).

 

I have to admit friend that untill now i always regard your posts as fair and find myself nodding in agreement, even if i am a big VG fan. but i am suprised the way you are referring to us as worker bees that dance around these problems as that implies that every player is having them. Yet on my average rig 3.2ghz gforce 7300LE 2 gig ram i dont seem to have these problems. So really unless you are actually trying the game out yourself and experiencing these problems then maybe it would be better to let others read actual players posts and make thier own minds up :)

And yes i know that you played the game up untill only a few months ago. but since then there has been 2 good patches.

I see we are just not going to agree on this one friend :) i didnt mean it to sound like i think he doesn't have a right to say it more that i would rather see more substance in a post. yes there are many that offer one liners but i also think most can agree those are usally people just trying to bump thier posts up, which i have no problem with. It's just when a  decent discussion is taking place it;s a little annoying to see someone come in just to get a count up :(

I see what your saying about my example and i admit thinking about it that was a bad example. a better one would be myself...go and take a look through the LOTRO forums and try to find a post from me. i assure you that you wont. i played the trial and to me the game is not worth my time. so i dont comment on it or post about it, hell i dont even go near thier forum as i have no interest in it. But maybe the poster i refer to is different to me and although he has no interest in the game he still likes to pop on and read about it and comment :)

But back to the subject.

VG is not fixed in the sense that the game is polished and ready to take on the world. it has a long way to go for that and may never get there. But in terms of playabliity the game is playable now and on an average rig like mine runs just as well as any other standard mmorg. what people need to realise though is there are certain things that cannot be fixed! the gameplay is not broken, so if it is not your style then dont come back in a month and expect to like it...you wont. The graphic style is not broken, though in some areas it may need the art redoing (chars one example ) but the overall style is not broke so again if you dont like it...then you wont in 2 months time or ever 2 years time. If you dont like the opent quiet areas that telon offers then again you will never like it. the game was never meant to be packed to the rafters with mobs.

If you want to know how much the game has inproved in performance then in my opinion i would say its around 75% effecient. Ok not great but playable. some of the content additions etc are really nice, like the maps for instance. The changes to the ranger class are great too :)

No friend you are missing my point. there is nothing at all wrong with a post about something negative towards the game...that is each to thier own. But if you read his post he has not given any opinion on the game, not even a negative one. now put yourself in another situation! You dont like football and think it is a waste of your time...now come on be honest! would you log onto a football forum to tell people you think it is a waste of your time? if you logged on and told people why then fair enough, but honestly read his post, then come back and tell me why he does not like the game.

And before you say! No i dont think anyone has to give any reason as to why they dont like a game that is up to them, just like it is up to me to like a game. what i dont understand is why take the time to explain why its not worth your time, when you are actually spending your time to post it lol.

Thats fair enough but if you actualy read the post i am talking about it doesnt offer any opinion other than he doesnt care and its not worth his time. when i post something its either putting across an opinion or maybe even just enjoying the chat with others. If something is not worth my time i am not about to state that in a post that is actually taking my time to type.....that to me would make me a hypocrite!

I understand that people want to let others know why they dont like the game but at least have the decency to put in an opinion or at least a reason :) excuse me if it seems i am being a little harsh but surely you can see my point.
