Alganon Beta key

Hello MMORPG,

I am just curious as to when my key will come? I have been wanting to play this game and help test it. I have gotten nothing aside from my winning ticket

I heven't gotten mine either...but have been confirmed

I live outside of Cardiff in Wales and have had very few issues.

Well, since you mentioned EQ, I would rule that one out as far as your parameters only because starting fresh would take a while to get to high levels and population is low. For PvE there is plenty to do, but you may find yourself rather lonely at times.

Warhammer has some of the most simplistic PvE in the genre. PvP is always there, but once you cap you may find it repetetive fighting same battles and scenarios every night. Not a bad game, but not very robust when it comes to content at this time.

AoC has improved with performance, but I can't vouch for a good server. I haven't played in a couple months and not sure how the action is at this time.

SWG is well...still there. Much lower pops than before yet when I poke my head in now and then I do see some people, just nothing like it was.

It really comes down to what you want to take a chance on. For content SWG and EQ...just because they have had a long time to add new content. AoC is improving as is Warhammer. War to me is just far to repeptetive at this time to warrant the monthly fee.

I have already decided I will make my superhero in DC Universe called Smeds. He will be about 12 inches tall, have no penis, 10 pound testicles, and a head the size of a pinhead.

When new players start they can come and punch me while I charge an extra 10 dollars to your account for SOE innovation.

Sony seems to be placing focus on cross platforming their games now with the PS3. DC Universe Online seems to be getting alot of their attention while just about every other games is free if you pay a monthly fee. That doesn't  seem to send a message to players that they are putting much effort into the future of the Station Pass. EQ2 and EQ seem to be the exception.
The fact that they are giving out some really nice loot cards with their online TCGs seems to say...well they aren't sure which way to go. SOE had a very faithful following until they just wanted another anomaly like WoW.
Perhaps MMOs should make standard monthly fees as we outside of Asia pay things would be different. Paying cents on the hour in Asia makes it a bit unfair while the rest of the world is paying a monthly contract fee. Who knows where the MMO industry will turn. It is time for them to make a definitive decision based on fairness or profit. I think they will choose profit , just as it is set up now.
Blizzard can claim 11.5 million subscribers which is valid, but if we in Europe or North America for example could go into an internet cafe and just pay cents on the hour to make accounts.....the number would be 300 million since that would seem a pretty fair deal.

I know you guys find it easy to disqualify someone's opinion on something especially if it don't match your own opinion, to each his own.

Um... isn't that what you are doing now?  Its all subjective anyway, including your own analysis...

I'm being told I'm wrong for the way I felt about the game.   I'm sorry I stepped on the feet of the LoTRO fans but I'm being honest on how I felt.  That is an honest assessment and there is nothing wrong about about my asssessment.   You might have a different feeling about things and you might like the way LoTRO was designed but I don't.

However, you cannot deny that from looting to mob placement, everything is formulaic.  Furthermore, you cannot argue that the world is actually pretty small and that it's zoned with alot of instancing where the main parts of the story are actually done the same way Guild Wars is done.

For me, just like Tabula Rasa and many other more recent MMOs, LoTRO was just another mediocre offering.  In fact, Tabula Rasa at least had me wanted to log in a few times before it became boring.

Understand something, I played both Ultima Online and Asheron's Call for several years.   I've worked on game projects for several months and currently six months on the one I'm on now  (programming and art, longest I spent on a project was 2 1/2 years).  I'm also an artist who understands patience is paramount.  I don't have a short attention span but I do recognize when something is nothing more than a shiny cover; to me that was LoTRO.

Just because people have lower standards doesn't mean someone who expects advancement  in MMO design and presentation is wrong.

Really youare being told yu are wrong for outlandish assesments like "the zones are smallish" compared to what? in an earlier post I said named all of the mmos I have experience with and war and aoc are the only ones I only played mostly starter zone and I know atleast lotro zones are larger than aoc maybe not WAR and the lore assesment was foolish too you couldn't possibly have played most of the mmos out and say any of them have better lore than lotro or does a better job of making your toon feel a part of the story.

The problem here now is that for whatever reason you didn't like lotro you stopped playing long before your opinion about alot of these issues could be truly informed (that's obvious from statements like "after I first logged on I had to force myself to do so again)

You sound like you may have seen 2% of the game world so what actuall experience could you possibly have to say the what the game world is like?

Out of all of the games I've named what other way are the mobs placed that is so much better or even different than what lotro does? If you didn't know even in real life bears and boars tend to stay in the woods, what should they do have them make suicide runs into Bree? In all I think most of us can see that though your post is well written you don't have enough experience with the game to truly know what it is you are saying so again if you didn't like it that's cool sometimes we don't like things and don't have to but you also don't need to rationalize why especially if you don't really know which it's pretty obvious you don't

As a proponent of Darkfall, Deathnoble's motives for this post are questionable.

I can compare LotRO to many games, but GW is not one of them.

To OP, I hope that Darkfall turns out to be all that you hope. Don't waste people's time in other forums. Seems you played a char maybe out of starter area and tried another?

Personally I hope Darkfall does pan out, but I do think Tasos is an idiot. I would rather hire Fozzie Bear as my main PR man to the public. Darkfall will be released on Jan 22......Wakka Wakka.

OP, I think if you are feeling that you are getting to 40 too slowly, you should just balance the amount of time you do ORvR. The game does not change much when you hit level cap. You will basically be grinding renown through ORvR and scenarios, you just won't be worried about experience. Same things most people do in earlier tiers.

For me, when I hit level 31, I took a break from scenarios and just quested in all three T4 pairings and was 40 in no time. I found it faster than scenarios as most quests are close to quest giver and most give about 10k experience. You can finish them very quickly. I did them all solo and they are not difficult.

Mythic has been making game as easy as possible for players and I never thought it was much of a level grind anyway.

You know Mythic gives you XP bonus's for being logged off ..why the hell should they give people are a lazy an advantage over people who log in for an hour or two everyday.  When the game launched I logged in everyday for an hour or two and even took somedays off to do other things like move and I built up more than enough xp bonus to get myself to lvl 25 with in a decent amount of time.

There's absolutely no reason to rush to end game considering the stability issues and the fact it takes really really large armies to actually do most of the End Game.

Honestly people like the OP make me sick they give normal / casual players a bad name.   Its this kind of mentality that ruined WoW for me. "Zerg to the end skip all the goodies in the middle!"

I have to agree with Banthis here. There are stability issues in T4 and the game doesn't fundamentally change at T4 either. You have in T2 keeps sieges, PQs, PvE, and scenarios. T4 only adds city sieges.  Another thing I would point out to the original poster from Warhammer Alliance is that he/she stated it only takes a month to burn through content anyway. Does the player want it to take a week to burn through content? Maybe ten days. A month to me isn't much of a grind.

Maybe the original poster is a gnat with a two to four month life span...so I guess a month would be burning his or her life away.

Well, for lame I would have to say the general aggro range of mob npcs. For example,  I  come across 5 elves standing in a group and the animations show they are conversing. In other games I may have been concerned about adds when trying to pull. I have no worries 99 percent of the time. I can just take a throwing dagger and hit one. he or she will be the only one to come after me. Pretty simple feat. The funnier thing is that the other elves will still be conversing as if the guy never left the group. Pretty much on the lame side.

I can say that recent ORvR activity is a positive sign. This may not be much of a change for some players who lovingly defend the game as they, according to their posts, have always had a healthy amount ORvR action going on. Alot of ORvR is still keep swapping, but it appears to be increasing overall. This is the Vortex server I am referring to. I have 40 days left before my account expires.

Overall any good or bad is really a matter of taste.  The AI is definitely pretty lame though. Can't see how anyone can find a challenge in that.

33 posters only makes 8 a valid score?

Seriously, if any of you actually have a character in Tier4. Done some of the endgame dungeons, done any keep sieging..... ehh keep / BO farming on roulation and the horror that is called Fortress Sieging and thus experiencing all the zone / server crashing that takes place in Tier4.

Then that score would have been a lot lower.

Cheers

I would have to agree. I originally ranked it a 7, but now would have to rank it a generous 6 for said reasons as well as other issues I have with it. Still haven't given up on it though....then again I was given a gift card by somebody thinking I enjoyed the game. At least I will be able to see how the upcoming changes work out for myself.

More scenarios and more solo content. Well at least Mythic is sticking with the path they have chosen. I will, however, still do the events so I can try out the new classes.

Folks,

Over the last few weeks the team has implementing a transfer system to allow both players and guilds to move between our servers. This technology was not available for WAR at launch and building it has proven to be a little more complex than originally expected. I’m happy to say that starting next week we will begin public testing of the service and if things go well, we will be able to offer it free to our players (for a limited time) either next week or the week after that. I apologize for the delay in making this service available but again, it did take a little longer than we originally expected.

We will be posting details next week about the public test and then the parameters for the free service.

Mark

Well this is being implemented soon so people on low pop servers can move to a busy.  It's stealth server mergers if you ask me.  It does mean that people won't have to play on empty servers though.

People asked for it and mythic gave it to them I bet if Mythic gave real money to play the game people would still find something to complain about. Just accept that no matter what Mythic does for their customers you will always be unhappy with WAR.

Some servers need more population I don't deny that but tell me a game that has every server full. I guess you would rather they do the Funcom thing and just keep making flase promises and not do anything they say they will do.

Even the almighty WOW has low pop servers

Yes, but you really can't compare a low pop server in a PvE game to a low pop in a PvP game. That said, I think the population of the game asa whole is ok....it is just stretched too thin. Had there been more players sticking with it and having to wait in queues for 20 minutes when they had time to play the complaints would have been the opposite.

It was perhaps a risk to create so many servers, but sometimes it is difficult to balance the correct number of servers with players. There really shouldn't be any shame in a merge as it is simply a rebalancing of populations to make the game more enjoyable.

Man, you know, I just remembered how much I liked Dawn of War.So, what the hell happened to all the neat tanks, and army type equipment, and all the neat stuff that they put into Dawn of War and their other single player RPG's??? Seem like Warhammer took all the good stuff that we loved out of WAR online.

I truly believe that had WAR stuck to what they gave us in their RPG single player games, like Dawn of War, it would have been much more successful. At least that would have really set it apart from WoW. Instead we have the same old sword swinging, mage casting, melee and spell bull crap, rather than having an all out WAR with the equipment and fun stuff that should have accompanied it.

I suppose that would have made it too much like Tabula Rasa, but still, what happened to the real Warhammer type of equipment? Bah.

Don't ever mistake THQ and Relic games for EA. Dawn of War came from them and Games Workshop.

I find War fun to play in bits now and then and I gave it another month. Not sure after that. I think it can be fun at times.

I personally feel that if it can sustain a decent playerbase of two to three hundred thousand it should be ok for the players.

The problem after the initial falloff of 35-45 percent will be can they sustain what remains. By that I mean when you get to 40 basically you have the open RvR zones to play. Will that be enough to keep those on the edge playing? Playing the same RvR zones every night?

Yes they can patch and add more, but with the big patch coming in December it may be not quick enough for those players. That would mean we would not see a large content patch until late January February?

War may have made a mistake in trying to be too many things at once and yet not being that great in any of them. I had given up long before release on it being a new DAoC. I played closed beta for quite a bit and it was fun ...I posted bugs regulary and unfortunately it didn't change much.

For me...as I said, I am  playing...having fun when I do, but it is not a game I play regularly.

I guess it comes down to what you are looking for. A quick fix of excitement or getting away from the world for a few hours and exploring a new world. War is sort of teeter tottering between trying to give a new world or giving you a quick hour of inflicting doom upon other players. The pieces are there for RvR yet meaningless, the PvE is there, yet not better than the most common F2P.

One good thing about PvE is the fact that kill 20 dingledorfs means you only have to kill 20. No need to kill 50 to get your drops.

I'm not sure why people expect this perticular game to be a sandbox.  Is it because SWG players have something in their head that Star Wars games need to be sandbox?  If people checked things out there are a lot of Star Wars games out there that have been successful and they are generally story driven.  This includes KOTOR which was designed by Bioware.  Now some people want to see Bioware do something they have never done because it's the way they want the game.  Unfortunately for you and fortunately for fans of the KOTOR game they don't listen these complaints because they want to make the game like they have made most of their other games and one of their most successful games which is KOTOR.  I'm sure that they hired SWG devs because the project is just to big for them to complete.  That doesn't mean they will have involvement in how the game is made.  It's likely they will just be told what to code, draw, or whatever their job is.

Although it is too early to tell, I do get the impression from some of the videos that the game will be a KOTOR , just on a massive scale. KOTORs were pretty good story games, but not really sure how they will translate to an MMO world.

How did they organise testing?
Sometimes it was RvR battles, sometimes scenarios, sometimes the Elves starting zone and so on.
This way we couldn't complain about how repetitive was the gameplay, because we were allowed access only pieces at a time, and couldn't test the gameplay as a whole.

There you go

Omg, I've seen people on this forum boasting about how Mythic let them them test the whole game and how they were not hiding anything compared to Funcom.  It shows how much BS people talk.

The people who made such claims should be ashamed of themselves.

I like how you are all expert programmers and know exactly what needs to be done to fix a bug like this and could if only you were on the Mythic staff. Don't you think Mythic probably knows about this and is working to fix it. I mean seriously the game is only about a month old, of course there are issues that need to be solved.

Mythic has known about this issue and others for a long time with the RvR mechanics being bugged. They have also said it would take months to cap a city. Obviously they were hoping for a little time to figure out fixes. Well too bad they didn't have faith in gamers and their ability to cap cities within a month and .... well I am sure MJ will say it is all part of War and RvR. Sounds oddly familiar to .... another game.

Actually I am an expert programmer.  In fact a number of people on these boards are programmers.

Yes, probably why we get annoyed with the schedules MMOs make and are blinded by assumptions .

Why is there never a true neutral option?  I like them but I dont Love them..and I don't hate them.

Because the world is full of radicals and extremists!

I didn't vote, but I would like to see more people involved in open RvR. Scenarios are nice if you have only an hour to pop into game, just not my cup of tea.

Yes balancing the server may be an issue although aside from the few spikes I may get, it has been fairly smooth. I am not going to tell you to give it three months as that is a bit foolish. The game should work when released at least server wise. I can't give any answers for your problems nor mine which are rare. Do you like the game aside from that...or are the lag issues game breaking for you?
