APB: Reloaded: A Mixed Bag of Awesome & Frustration
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/03/12 8:18:33 PM
FPS = "TPS"...stop splitting hairs. There are a number of shooters that you can be in first person perspective, or third person...what do you call those? FPS is just a term to describe a genre of game, regardless of what perpsective you may be tied to. They aren't seperate genres. |

There are gamebreaking bugs with this game that t3fun/hanbitsoft aren't even concerned about fixing. There is a bug with the ragdoll physics (some of us believe it to be the cause) that will drop your fps to less than 1 fps until the culprit(s) fade. Still plenty of lag and bugs running around, and t3fun is only really concerned about putting new items in the mall. When they pulled the "bait and switch" with the revenue model, I knew they weren't a good company and all their intention for this game was a cash grab. I mean, stating the game is completely f2p, then 2 days before release say that only up to the end of act2 (very early in the game) is completely free then you have to pay to access the rest of the game is shady in my book. That is more of an unlimited free trial than f2p. Personally, while it's being run by this company, I would suggest not even giving it a try. It's worse off now IMO than it was before. If you want to play it, I say get the flagship version and play the single player. At least that way there are some mods out to enhance your gameplay instead of hinder it. |

Shady company gets no money from me. Doesn't matter if it's $4 or $400. Switching the model at the last moment let's you know that they aren't afraid of screwing you for money. And as far as I can see, little to no communication at all from them about what they are doing or are planning to do. It doesn't look good for the longevity of the title. I could bet they won't be updating it with much of any content. Just look at their forums, no moderation, no support, no search, no edit, runs like a forum from 15+ years ago. A vBulletin board is better. It's obvious that they are just another crappy f2p company that isn't interested in running a good game, just running a game with the absolute minimum specs and hoping the players aren't bright enough to figure them out and keep shelling out their money. |

helllgate london reboot now pay to play...
General Discussion « Hellgate: London 6/28/11 7:42:49 PM
My problem with it is not that you have to pay, it's that they have been billing it as F2P, which they were not intending it to be. It's an unlimited trial. Getting through the content they are allowing you to play for free is just a few hours long. Probrably just as much as (maybe less than) you get with a P2P mmo that offers an unlimited trial. They will most likely drop the xp rate to make it take longer of course (they are going to be selling xp boosting items after all). I feel for the people that bought HG:L, essentially having to buy the same game twice. |

EVE Online: Dust 514 to be Exclusive PS3 Title
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/07/11 12:20:05 PM
World sales of ps3 units throw a shadow on the xbox sales and laughs. The ONLY place the xbox sold more units (and this is going on a good few years ago) is the US because US consumers don't do their research and think, they go for the gimicky and "popular". How's that rrod working for you? How many xbox have you gone through because it crapped out on you? It's been 5 years (give or take a year) since I've bought my ps3, and I'm still using that very same one. The only downside to the ps3 atm is sony's lack of security and declaring war on all hackers. You can search for the graphs and what not as I have done a long time ago. |

Earthrise: Iceberg Interactive Takes Over Distribution
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/02/11 2:11:21 PM
I'm not so sure they should be showcasing certain features they left out initially and added later because of user request, that is a standard in mmo games. For example auto-stacking. Shouldn't have needed to be a requested feature. I really wanted this game to succeed and was going to see it through, until the vocals cried for minimap quest pointers. When they announced they were going to basically show you where to go to complete each step of the quest, it started taking a step away from sandbox and toward theme park. Which got me to realize that they are listening too much to the vocal few and are going to end up turning it into a theme park style game and that is not what the original vision was and not what I wanted to play. I have this feeling that even with territorial warfare, they aren't going to make it through. It's just now getting to the point where it should have been on release (and it's not quite there yet). |
|

you'll see. When they start putting guns and such in the market that are better, and you see all the people complaining about how much better it is, not to mention the non-premium limitations. To remain competitive with others that are paying premium, and buying items, you will be spending more than $10/month (which is what rtw was charging for unlimited access to action districts. Oh let's not forget that the social wasn't sub restricted, and you could do plenty of things to get rtw cash and you could use that cash to buy playtime). F2P model is easier to get into, costs more (and not just time) to remain competitive. |
|
|
and you still would spend more money on the game than you would have in the realtime worlds model. |

That's what they get for declaring war on all hackers, and thinking they are untouchable. I'm not supporting those that stole the data. Sony has a reputation for telling people who try to hack, for sport and practice, and actually let them know where their security is lacking, to F*** off and their security is fine. All of this is a result of Sony's decisions. No sympathy from me. |
|
Ditto man. And that whole "you get a beta key to apply to get a beta key" thing was ridiculously retarded, and shows me that the company is already making bad decisions. I am severely cautious about reloaded. Mainly cause of the company running it have a bad history of doing nearly nothing after a game is launched to stop and prevent cheating. Those changes miles put up are tempting, especially the ltl nerf. Things being more expensive is just a f2p decision to get you to buy a booster item from the item mall to increase your cash flow I'm sure. Reducing certain roles to only having one rank confuses me a little though, unless they decided to make it one rank but make that rank take forever to get. It just seems counter-productive to most f2p developer's eyes to make something easier to get so they can't try and get you to buy something to make it easier. And the trueskill matcher, exploits, punkbuster, and hacks being fixed...all I can say is "pics or it didn't happen". The matcher will undoubtedly be a fail bucket. Most game matchers fail. Don't see this company making one that works better. And the exploits and whatnot I don't believe due to the company's rep. All-in-all I'll most likely try it out, but I'm not holding my breath. |

Black Prophecy: Gamigo Board Member Addresses the Community
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/15/11 11:50:38 AM
I don't think the combat is as bad as darkholme makes it out to be. But he is right about the game otherwise. Graphics and combat are the only things this game has. Crafting is useless, especially considering putting a mod on a part takes 20+ minutes that you can not play the game until it is done. Literally. You have to sit on the crafting screen in the station and wait for it to finish. You can't do anything else at all unless you close the crafting window. There is no real reason to pvp other than bragging rights afaik. The grind is insane. Same old missions over and over and over and over and over and over and over just to get like 1% of total needed at level 8, and that's with bonus (think rested) xp! That's a little exaggerated, but it's exactly what it feels like. If they want a big focus on pvp, they shouldn't be dragging out the pve stuff. All-in-all the game needs a lot of work to make it worth spending any money on. Graphics are pretty, but gameplay is king, and the king is MIA. |

I have this feeling it could be partially due to APB:reloaded being f2p. GA did have a sub model. And when (I believe) APB was releasing the first time with a sub model, GA removed their sub fees before APB released. And now APB is being re-released as f2p, it's logical to see this move as their way of keeping up with their (seemingly) only competition. |

Originally posted by Zolgar I think it was so they could air non-scifi shows and get less grief from the consumers. Wrestling is not sci-fi. They also need to fire the guy either coming up with the original movies or the guy green lighting them. They used to be decent years ago, production quality not so much, but stories were much better. Now it's just crazy natural disaster or dinosaur/overgrown animal movies, yawn. So, is this gonna be a retry of the ideas they had for SGW? They planned to have that game and the show cross over into each other. Maybe trion can pull it off. |

Earthrise will have all of that. |

Originally posted by Coman +1 Thank you for attempting to shine the light on the misinformation. The people here will most likely completely ignore what you have said though. They are too busy hopping on the "ffa pvp sandbox fails" bandwagon. I really enjoy how people agree to the review when they haven't even played the game and go off what other people who may or may not have played the game. With all the misinformation that people keep throwing out there about the game, it's clear they have not played, or have not played long enough/taken the time to find out about the game. As evidenced by everyone thinking there is no insurance mechanic at all. Doesn't have EvE's economy? Are you kidding? Of course it doesn't. Economies need time to grow before you can even say that. EvE's economy starting out was total crap too. It's had years to grow, it doesn't just happen overnight. They are just hoping the game fails, so they are saying nearly anything to attempt to help it along. Schadenfreude at it's best I'd say. Does the game need fleshing out? Indeed it does. Did they release too early? Yes they did. Did they want to? No they didn't. They had to. Money was probrably starting to dry up, and if they released a bit later, they would have to contend majorly with a bunch of hyped up mmo's. So their window for possibly getting people in, and hopefully keep the game afloat so they can finish it was now. |

The problem is that you do want hand holding. From your article, it seems that you didn't read the help file that automatically pops up when you enter the game with a new character. You have to PHYSICALLY tell the thing to not show up every time you log-in. Your fault for not reading it. Most of us that are saying go back to WoW have been in the beta, and we have heard all too many players complain that there is no quest markers at all. "we don't know where to go, they should put a big marker on my map to tell me where the objective is, so I don't have to think and go looking for it myself.". Sorry if we just got tired of hearing it and are tired of the "tell me where to go and direct me every step of the game" mentality. This type of thinking is why most of us "fanboys" came to this game. We are trying to get away from the "give-it-to-meh-nao" rollercoasters(and the people that play them) that plague the market. So when one of those people show up and start complaining that the game is too hard, yes, we defend the game and tell them to go back to the walk in the park that is WoW. It seems your only real problem with the game is performance. It's been 2 weeks since launch? How many other games have had major performance issues on launch? The answer is too many to count. Unfortunately /unstuck is a necessary beast, as the entirety of enterra hasn't been explored fully, there are still quite a few places that will cause you to get stuck. I agree they need to retool the function to the point where it's not easy or attractive to use as an exploit. I'd rather the function not cause me a death for getting stuck in the world, than listen to the crying from the same people on how it's not fair for them to lose all their stuff cause the earth grabbed their leg. While your opinion is valid, as all are, I believe you to be just complaining about performance and consider said opinion to be unimportant. The game isn't for everyone, it's for the niche of hardcore sandbox pvpers who like a little fps in their mmorpg. If you are gonna complain about performance issues, wait a while by all means. If you are going to complain about the gameplay not being easy and too confusing and don't want to learn, do us all a favor and just stay away. |

All Points Bulletin: Third District Sneak Peek

I have a crazy feeling that this f2p developer is going to destroy this great game... |

If Earthrise had already released, it'd be right up there on that list. |

Originally posted by severius It really isn't. They are over exaggerating a lot. They got a beta key over the weekend along with thousands of other people for the stress test and logged on while the servers were in debug mode, got mad cause there were too many people in the tutorial, and once they finished, got ganked outside and cry because it's not their usual mmorpg that holds your hand while you cross the 15 mph street at midnight. Sorry, don't need a game to do it for me. Aside from the performance issues (in the beta, reserving any and all final judgment for release) there is nothing majorly wrong with the game. This isn't your standard mmorpg, carebears beware! Most of these "testers" are basing their opinions off of a tutorial. They expect a quest tracking system that tells them where to go, what to do, and probrably expect their character to fight while standing there doing nothing (it's fun watching them die cause they don't move). Controls need to be mastered, you have to move during combat while aiming at the same time. Turning is not hard if you hit tab and go into mouse lock mode (read as fps mode). there is no auto-lock on target in this game AT ALL. Many of these "testers" didn't even skim the manual (that pops up when you log on everytime until you untick the box that makes it do so) expecting it to be a copy/pasted system from all the other mmorpgs. They probrably had no idea what earthrise was at all before seeing "free beta key for earthrise" much less take a look at the website/forums to learn more about it, and then whine cause it's not like all the others. And the pvp! It's great already, I can't wait for later when the majority of the population has started getting skills other than gear tiers. Moving around actually has an effect in this game's pvp, you don't stand there a few feet away shooting each other colonial warfare style(and if you do, you aren't very smart). The game isn't going to be for everyone, and if it isn't for you, then move along and go back to your themepark. But for the rest of us, we will enjoy it for however long it's around. And IF it goes down, we will remember it with a fondness only found in the pre-cu swg players. |
