Could have been worse he could have compared them to Farlan/NP3 and Dark and Light (as some are). Actually though they are a ways ahead of D&L as it was when SoG was released there are similarities.

Nice post. Rare to get a genuine fan's view rather than a vapid fanbois. I am certainly not a console kid (though of course have played the 'classics') but despite really really liking what DF stood for and what there mandate was I feel they have come up short.........so far at least.

It  is just kind of a shopping list of features. Some are on back order some things have been substituded and some are just plain out of stock. Thats not the issue.... a basket of ingriedients is not a meal let alone a gourmet meal. It takes more than a bunch of good ideas to make a good game. It takes real flair to take any ideas and design a game from them. Gameplay in DF can be fun but all those skills don't dovetail into a really well designed game experience. They have made some pretty naive mistakes too....I'd say at any time over half the players online are afk macroing, probabbly more.

 

I dunno it just dosent have charm, a soul if you like. If you are happy to macro to get you skills...city...xxxx (fill in any blank you like for xxx) and then play a few hours as if the world is a big arena ....well great. It's just for there to be consequences things have to matter. To have meaningful  choices doing things differently has to have differentg outcomes. I suppose 'shall I macro gathering or LM' is a choice of sorts.

 

Sad really = however Fallen Earth & Earthrise both potentially might offer that really beautifully designed and crafted game.

That dosen't bode well I would guss they managed to keep those servers yp what an average of about 4 hours a day over the last month? I kind of assumed it was because they where doing internal tests and development on them. If that was not the case.....well oh dear.

Simply find a leafblade equipped friend and vanish off into a quiet corner for some macro swing fun! boost your defensive skill the easy way. Make sure to have your own macro set to heal self and pots just incase you are unlucky enough to die.

I prefer my way as it does not rely on a friends macros being up to snuff.  You will die many times whilst macroing that is also the quick way to get your mana back newb!! and I am certainly not going to multibox this &^^%$££@ (though no doubt some will).

they kept server sup at times for 6-12 horus straight easy... most times the devs tookt he server down it was jsut there way of patching and fixing things

 

Yes they did though 2-4 hours was more common. Lets hope they have a whole new cluster for launch as they will not have the luxury of being able to test on production servers once they go live. Of course they didn't have 10k concurrent but thats anther issue.

 Be intresting if  a) they get turned on tonight and b) how much performance goes through the floor.

 Actually my concern is they only have one cluster (which is why it was down or admin only for the most part of the last month). I wonder how running live will effect there development cycle?

I suppose it does not bother anyone that the first player built city with walls and a harbor is only being tested by a few players a few days before launch, I'm sure that will work out well.

That's one of the many problems I have with the game. At least make it hard to macro to deter all the script kiidies. Whats the point of having mad scripting skilz if any dimwit can come up eith a clicker.

 

None of the game systems are anything but trivial to macro (including combat actually).  24/7 macroed clicking does not a fun game make. 

 I, too, have no comment to make.

 Well with WARI applied late (days late) so hit up a couple of fansites. Ended up with keys coming out my arse :D Basically if you wanted a key and where prepared to look they where available. I think it was wireplay who brought an extra 70,000 or so on line at the last minute for any who had been un succesful.

 

I have never had a problem trying a game since the days of UO & M59. (including Darkfall). Darkfall was clearly luck though.

 Pro tip 6 - Macro - Macro early, macro often, macro everything. That's if you want to have skills comparable to that dog man hitting on you.

 

Pro tip 8 - 'sploit - The top 'hardcore' guilds are and will continue to you are either agead of the curve or behind it.

 

Pro tip 8 - Buy a decent hack subscription - You want speed buff so you can run at sprint speeds (or faster) without using stamina. Radar is a nice luxury too.

 

No - seriously -  get 'geared' up or get ganked.

 I wonder whether they will be able to keep the severs up for longer than they did in beta? Guess we'll find out shortly.

Trouble is that DF shares more with D&L than is dis similar. The main differenceis that DF is technologically more robust however game systems wise it feels similar.

Oh and the fanbois where just as enthusiastic about D&L (more so perhaps) despite having played it. People do bend thier perception of reality so there hopes and dreams are not shattered.

 Actually technology wise they seem to have things reasonably nailed. (Though I suspect when they have 10k concurrent users issues might appear). Looks like they have the 'placeholders' for lots of skills it's just I feel the gameplay needs quite a lot of work. Of course polish and balance are always ongoing but there are levels beyone which you have to say well xxx is functionaly broken. Time will tell.
