General: Mass Effect 3: Coop Multiplayer Missions Confirmed
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/10/11 3:58:16 PM
Originally posted by Kabaal Im with badspock on this one, not so much of a choice thing but for me personally if the quality and substance will be there would be the main concern. as taxing as Mass effect franchise can be on the developers side, adding a co-op feature is something that should be of no small matter, Esspecially this late in the developing cycle. can only hope its a strong feature and not tacked on to say "here ya go, co-op mode, herp derp!" |

a Dyson?? anyone know what a "Dyson" is, because we Seriously need to know let alone ask the PS2 team why they choose the word Dyson for VS. i checked for a definition and it didnt really clear things up. and the urban dictionary definition is very..veerrry undesirable. TR get a annoying insect that suck the blood of victims NC get pillagers to rob others forcibly VS...we get, a flying vacuum cleaner? ...that, according to urban dictionary, that functions as a sperm guzzler.

lol you thought that was bad, you shouldve experienced beta 5 step moves plus trying to adjust the combat shields with melee on the fly against other players in pvp. and then tack that on while playing the bear shaman or conq class around beta. i dare say youd need a quad core processor for your hand to pull all that off.
but ya really, it is definitely understandable, getting arthritis at the mid ages of 20 is not fun at all. |

Cryptic Vs. SOE - If you had to choose, which would it be and why?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/05/11 7:35:28 PM
who would i choose? SOE why? real answer: 1.overall experience 2. they try at least, to tamper wtih the boundries from time to time(the agency, free realms, planetside, forge light engine) instead of opting out and using the same rank in file, bean counting, suit formula (champions online, star trek online) troll answer: They are the masters of screwing up..call it overall experience, that being said, they at least know how to kill 900 people in a 3 car pile up and get away with it. |

Will the NDA drop for SWTOR?
It will when Bioware gives up its Secrecy mantra.

C/D: Creating and releasing Planetside 2 would be a gold mine now.
General Discussion « PlanetSide 2 10/03/11 4:28:30 PM
I dont disagree, and im actually for this. but i must raise a couple of concerns:
1. Technology: even of the days of Planetside , and WWIIONLINE , technology let alone the internet had to fight tooth and nail when at come to latency/lag. not to mention the other tooth and nail battle when PC's are involved and how every rig is more or less different from the other compared to a streamline console with all using the same specs, Yes we have progressed greatly and VASTLY since the past several years. we even got browser games that would put certain console games to shame fun wise-- in rare cases visual wise too. the Thing is, with all these advancements, and with SOE's forgelight looking to lead the way. I raise concern that SOE and the dev team could very well be drunk from all the new tech they can use to make the game very beautiful (see the friggin screenshots) and unfortunate have the frame rate and latency performance of a Amiga. I greatly hope they find a even ground and keep to their word that Gameplay/ Performance will be priority over Graphics--and if need be by a large margin. 2. Marketing: My god this has been more and more the element that either gives a game life or kills it off at birth, and i dont mean if their is a lack thereof or too much of marketing. but the RIGHT kind of marketing where the PR team does their job by giving accurate, sensible information without pigeonholing or castrateting the dev team by saying these tired old words: "THIS IS THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST OF THE DAY OF OMEGA TO END ALL WOW KILLERS!" this mind you is a exaggeration, but for a more direct example being for the PR group to promise the moon to the point the dev team cannot humanly deliver, thus killing all that hard work, blood ,sweat and tears overnight. in reality, there will be some things the team can do, and the team cannot do. my only hope is to be informative enough to keep the community in the loop as far as whats being done with the game and what to expect. 3. Innovation: This word perhaps needs to shrivel up in a corner and die a slow, slow slow death and be forgotten, and THEN have a dog come in and take a large turd over its corpse to complete its existance; might i add potential would come as a close second imo. Innovation is something were all looking for, on the dev teams behalf, again, i hope they use reasonable judgement and not be obsessed with the word, let alone speak of it. same goes with the PR team...and @#$#ing Smedelonius!! (smedly) the consumers will be clamoring for it, but to be honest, Planetside, and of course Planetside 2, already has much of that right in front of them when it comes to simply being different: 1. mmofps with large scale battles, there are other games that tout it but are few far and inbetween, not to mention lacking a large company to back them both financially and commerically (HI MARSWAR!! tell your little punk brother HUXLEY i said hello) 2. noobs having the potential to kill leveled out players. this aspect was another gem in planetsides pocket. a fresh noob with nothing more than a supressor can be just as deadline as a jackhammering NC hobo depending on the enviornments and situation. 3. changing between classes/professions on the fly and even mid combat: first PS had this, PS2 will have it too despite it being more steamlined (speculating) 4. persistant mayhem: call it a weak arguement, but when your playing a deathmatch game or a themepark game for x amount of times or years..a nice big continent with explosions as far as the eye can see on any other day is a welcomed changed.
And im going so far off topic its shameful, my bad.
IF anything, people are still underestimating the FPS playerbase believe it or not, and those people are the typical traditional tab-targeting mmo players. there is always some hate about PS2 going free to play, and yes that is dangerous but it can be done right without the element of pay to win (bigger gun, more bullets etc.). FPS community will come, but for them to come, they have to follow a new set a rules, and a dice roll with +5 purple armor aint gonna cut it.

all speculating of course. |

Of all the games I was excited to try out at Eurogamer Expo, Star Wars: The Old Republic was definitely the most disappointing.

Whats the skinny from the Friday 9/15/11 Pod cast please
General Discussion « PlanetSide 2 9/23/11 9:09:25 PM
Some things i dont agree with, others i can live with, heres another Q and A but with the transcript taken from PSU which was taken from the twitter recap (twitter chat but abit more organized version):
@ps_tray (Tramell Isaac) answers:
@soe_hack (Josh Hackney) answers:
-My take on some of the things i like: -all or most ps 1 weapons returning -emphasis on having strengths and weaknesses on classes (i.e. heavy assault wont be end all be all for indoor infantry combat) -Galaxies as AMSes, it can work if there are requirements to go with it and limitations, give galaxy pilots a stronger incentive of staying in their ships, or be taxi's rather -idea of outfits having access to have outfit armor design customization or different uniforms (if they take the friggin name tag hovering crap off, can make a viable
What i dont like: -with classes, the large possibility of mixing to professions together (combat engineer +medic, Cloaker + medic) -the loss of free inventory, hence the concern from the first dislike statement above

General Discussion « PlanetSide 2 9/23/11 5:29:13 PM
Cloakers are not that abudent due to so many things being able to pick them up and the amount of everything including the change of wind ends up killing them if they dont look over their surroundings.
what kills a cloaker: sudden and careless movement while in 180 view of enemy darklight whores high concentration of battle travelling near roads motion sensors audio amp whores gamma whores (raising the gamma on their computer to catch any cloakers even attemping to sneeze) lack of sensor shield while doing stealth other cloakers other cloakers WITH darklight motion turrents Mosquito pilots (due to aircraft having built in radar) amp station bases (if lacking sensor shield)
the moment they are found, it usually takes one good gernade and a couple bullets to kill them, a mere few bullets if using a heavy assault weapon.
early in the game while there were more cloakers, i would ride with some one in a bang bus, and count the number of times we hit a speed bump = run over a cloaker. |

Originally posted by Nerf09 i believe part of the of the issue of the lack of concealment in planetside is players ability to toggle between camera modes from first to third, and the games radar having a mind of its own (you may be cloaked and have sensor shield, but i still see youuuuuuuu). name tags being another strike. |

General Discussion « PlanetSide 2 9/20/11 6:16:02 PM
Originally posted by Nerf09 your concerns in relation to planetside ip is subjective, Their have been several roles both in and outside of battle that people not only filled and were proficient at it, but enjoyed. Conventional WW2 tactics, however broad that subject might be, can perhaps be the be all and end all when in comes to fundamental warfare, but it is not a crime to add upon it. Planetside 1 is based on wierd and random shennigans , really, cloaked unit is hacking a unmanned turrent 80 meters away to kill off a unsuspecting trooper who is trying to laze point a flail that is vehicle camping the enemies resources 3 bases away. I disagree. Unconventional is fine because some one could participate in elements and situations that you wont get in current WW2 games.

General Discussion « PlanetSide 2 9/19/11 11:35:06 PM
it was a couple day Q and A followed with a small wishlist/faq to go with it:
a small update from the website with added pictures: http://www.planetside2.com/news/article1.html and a small interview from this post here too: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09/09/dancing-to-different-beats-planetside-2/ basically a overview of what they plan to aim for then there was also the chat discussion on twitter with some questions answered there: http://twitter.com/#!/planetside2 there have been a number of other updates placed on the Ps forums themselves: http://forums.station.sony.com/ps/posts/list.m?topic_id=88000027890
couple things that did pop out from the meet and greets was one new document i am unable to find but it is mentioned in the twitter q and a at least. ==== -Galaxies are confirmed to be the new "AMS" spawn vehicles. -Galaxies can hold 10 soldiers (suspecting 8 soldiers 2 maxes) -Troops can spawn in galaxies while galaxy is still in mid air -empire specific aircraft desired -empire specific heavy weapons desired (or confirmed) - customization can go so far as grabbing a tank and customize it as more armor, slower speed, or very little armor via glass cannon, etc. etc. to all vehicles and their customizations -BR 1 characters can access all class types -Engineering tree to have a possible skill tree for "Explosive Expert" -spitfire turrents may be replaced with turrents that are manned, can get experience from players that man and kill people with your turrent
there maybe more updates in around 2 weeks.
hope that helps |

As for Galaxies being the new spawn points, i dunno would kinda seem gals will be a multi role type vehicle harnessing all forms of transportation for infantry. when they land they can easily set themselves up as an AMS im sure, on top of that if gals keep their guns while in that spawning mode state that'll further their appeal.
i suppose in speculation, with their emphasis on customization, we could see gals with the ams role, but with guns and other knick knacks to supply troops, transport them and go from one location to the next as a much faster pace compared to amses.
as for gals in general and in further speculation, wouldnt be suprised if they also replace loadstars, having gals to be able to carry all forms of ground vehicles, or maybe more than one vehicle perhaps 2..or 3 in the back?
we'll definitely see in the coming days esspecially around sept 15 of what more info they will share with us |
