hello there,

It finally let's me reply. So you have a weak Nvidia 8600 and you can play this game on High? That's crazy, I have an ATI HD 3870 and I can barely play WoW on MAX settings, the frame rates are dissapointing.

But I'm coming back to Age of Conan today right after this patch update in about 30 mins and I'll be level 80 in early march or late february, depends on how much time I get to play.

11 days straight can get you to level 80.

this will be 100 percent speculation, but your 3870 is probably raping your motherboard so hard that its hindering your performance to play,  that or  ATI and AOC in some ways do not get along, so there is more than one problem that may cause your game to run slow and clunky.

a 8600 can play to close to high settings, but not max settings i believe

( counting shadows, shader 3.0 etc etc....and my god dont get started about anti alias X4 and up)

the real beastily test is when you trying to play the game on max settings in a siege.......lol

try to do that, cpus will fall to their knees in pain..

Tos: Storm Crown, Big lightening, Bam ,   next person  rinse and repeat.

getting the jump on a tos hard or if they already used their CC or Health you can bring them down.

unless they are pvp lvl 3 with their gear on,  then good luck on that.

Demo imo are a hassle because of their cc's that can last 8 seconds and another 6 seconds and another if you get knocked down, along with a planar shift to avoid your attacks, and then the kiting you have to go through.

but a TOS,  to a extent,   they could probably scratch their balls with one hand and press a couple buttons on the other to get the job done.  but thats just exaggerating ( it better be a exaggeration)

If you want proof of what i say, come to Cimmeria server and pvp around keshetta, look for those of guilds Legion of Flames, Snow hawk,   and Acolytes.  you'll see the ridicilous power you have to go through to bring them down, if you can to begin with.

There are a good couple of merc guilds that ive seen on Cimmeria server,  some of their wages are tolerable while other fees will make you spit at them.

they are usually useful when guilds who dont have enough numbers to defend their battlekeep they are available to fill their ranks, with a fee of course.

As im eagerley awaiting the delivery of my copy of AOC id like to get more tech info about it, whats the performance of DX10 like in AOC on full settings but no AA ?

Unless you have a $6k gaming rig its going to be crap....  It will take them another 6-10 months after they release it on the Live servers for them to fix all the lag its going to create.

But at least now the box won't be lieing about have DX10 in it :)

with $6k i could buy  4 computers thatll run AOC on high settings to play Dx 10.

beats the hell out of 1.

sooner this DX 10 drama gets out of the way the better,  rather see bigger things  going on for AOC,  is pretty enough as is.

Its part of Ign.

well . . . . .

was either this  or warhammer,  however i heard  WH got GOTY from another  group.

at any case, could also put it in as  "Game to have butt lit on fire for hard improvements at a short amount of time" Award.

the GTHBLOFFHIAASAOT Award.

Grats Funcom

As for customizing,  you can make them skinny to thick,  but not obese thick.

the meat and potatoes is actually on their faces,

if you have the patiences you can make some interesting faces,  unless you want to go for the cute guy, cute girl route..then not too much time is needed.

but to make them fugly thats where the art is.   females not so much, best you could pull off is either

1. face paint

2. the amazing broken nose manuever

3. black eyes to scar

4. or the stiff upper lip

if your keen on the system , you may be able to add in 3 out of 4 to give a close to unqiue set up.

Guys,  theres there smooth skin luther vandross look,  to  the space marine look...all the way over to the Moses look (yes im serious the Moses 10 commandents super fugly look)

give it a whirl when you get the chance.

This is perhaps late but ill add in something related to  the conq Class

playing this game from launch, the conq classes has been one of  the most difficult classes to maintained, and most fustrating to handle ( aside from Dark Templar).

the interesting and shameful thing though is the Conquerors shine the brightest when they reach the higher levels of 60 and 80 range

However the one interesting thing about the Conq class is despite the fustrating notion of working much harder than anyone else to meet their goals.  they are definitely flexible at what they can do.

For instance, through out the whole 7 months playing this game i will tell you first hand that there are quite a few different conqs styles than just  carnage and brute.

but ill break it down for you real quick just to get to the point:

you have your dps conqs= carnage

and your Crowd control conqs= Brute

now from there, depending on your play style, who your favored class to hunt the most, and tactics to use, you can even make particular rolls and hybrid class feats, such as:

blood letting Conqs =   their offensive being lacerate, deep wounds, w/ rending strike gems or weapon, with a defense sheild of retribution, anticipation and counter defense points for def. stance.

something of this partial layout annoys guardians, and esspecially barbarians.

Battle Rez Conqs= For something for PVE, conqs prize posession would be their  battle rez, in that case if you wish to give the best effectivness of rezzing your comrades up. remember these three things:

1. Battle Rez Conqs should have no hate points what so ever, if they are not going to be main tanks to begin with, but dps, or off tank throwers, having low hate points so monster don't aggro to you to break your Furious Inspiration procs (your friends need to be hit 10 times for the proc to be effective). nothing worse than a raid boss to turn his attention on a conq just to 1 hit kill him, thus losing any chance of rezzing your friends in middle of combat.

2. Angel of Fury= to this day, angel of fury still sucks, period.. but still proc it any way for these two reasons:

a. due to combat changes,  combos are faster to execute thus giving more chances to proc ( every  hit, you have 10 seconds to get another proc, other wise FI will reset and your battle rez will not work) so if you are able to do at least 6  combos under 10 seconds , and one of them happens to proc, then consider yourself and your friends super lucky

b. if all your friends die and you FI is only up to 9, think of angel of fury being a inconsiderate cold B*****, she works when she wants to, but IF and WHEN you do get that last proc, it is so much sweeter to see all your friends rise from the ground to fight again, makes some healers envy you.

3. Get Improved FI,  when FI procs  improved FI makes health regeneration faster for you and your friends, max it out, and see your friends fight alittle bit longer, or regen their health abit faster when they get battle rezzed.

when you get back into the game, explore the skill tree feats on your own, and ultimately find a play style that suits you to help ease the micromanage woes.

and one other important type to further ease the micro manage woes:

have your keys on your keyboard symbolize the combat rose if you can.

I used to have an AoC sub back when it launched, and despite enjoying the game for the most part there were a few key issues which bugged me to the point of quitting. I haven't seen them addressed specifically so I'd appreciate it if some of those who still play can answer them

1) PvP balance: This falls into two categories really, firstly have the classes been balanced to any reasonable degree against one another (or is this an announced plan to do so?). Secondly is the PvP still largely determined by the gear you use? +evade and +dmg sets used to be a real fun-killer and I don't particularly enjoy pvp that depends on luck or clothing

2) High-level Content: Pretty obvious really, I know they've announced a few more zones but are the current players logging in on anything other than alts?

3) Hopeless Dev team: Ok, not entirely hopeless but it seemed that every patch they brought out would either break something or fail to fix the things they announced. This coupled with the real pointlessness of a lot of the patch notes changes made me feel very disheartened; I can accept the flaws in the game *if* I believe they'll be fixed in the near future. So the question is, are the patches still a pile of crap or have they sorted their act out?

Finally this isn't quite as important but, assuming the game continues to develop as it is at the moment, is an expansion pack a likely event in the not too distant future?

 Thanks!

1. for your first category:

classes have been balanced enough to the point that skill matters, despite crux of ease of use that some classes have over others. more balancing  is needed and is under way of course to have the playing field even more leveled, the pvp changes for melee is proof of such balance. the gem nerf has level the playing field even more, but i will not go into full detail of that matter.

   your second category:

at the moment, if you know the in's and outs of your class and all the other classes,  you can kill some one butt naked compared to another that has say  pvp lvl 3 full items plus guild benefits up to T3 AND battle keep benefits up to T3; but in doing so would take ALOT OF SKILL.

short answer ,   Skill is still over Gear by a significant margin, you will have a problem with those that have both skill and gear,  Gear still, at this time does not make anyone impossible to defeat,  even if they do have everything maxed out ( bk T3  guild T3  pvp lvl 5 gear)  and getting maxed out in this game very very very few people have recently accomplished.

2. as far as personal experience, i log in on only one character, and usually i do so because i run with a group that collects items  cloth and armor , just to see what do they look like when placed on their character.  but as far as anyone else doing alts, i know a mix of people ,  including new players getting into the game.

3. the patches 3 months ago were a pile of crap,  2 months back the crap stopped smelling for once.

the recent last 2 patches have been positive, this is speak about from the start of ymirs pass and onward. the patches have been positive. the dev team was suppose to do server merges but they ran into a problem which postponed server merges, and dx 10 is currently on test live, which is said to be working on several bugs that need more fine tuning,  but with those things being looked at,  the hopeless dev team are for once ignoring the instant gratification folks and putting out patches that dont smell, even if it takes longer than expected; they need more good patches like the last two and esspecially like the one for ymirs pass.

like you said, there are some kinks and stutters, which is true.  things still at times get a bit broken when they fix something else, for example a raid boss(es)  difficulty being raised too high or developing a freakish bug that makes them stupid hard to impossible to kill.

as for the expansion pack,  even if funcom hasnt said much about it, they are more focused on fixing their game more than developing the x-pack,   in a wild guess,  i could throw to say the x-pack could see a 2010 release instead of a 2009;  i think of that as a grace period due to the current state of the game.

"In my personal opinion the game looks good and if this video is in-game graphics, hmmm watch out Aion you will most likely die with out been born."

He said if B and S comes out and it holds on its promises, then Aion will most likely die even before it is born.

not

Aion is a dying game.

Conqueror:  very hands on,  Micromanaging nightmare or dream  if you like full control.  CC's are not too par as other ccs of other class but the amount of control of when to use them how to use them makes up for it, has a instant knock down that can be controled in or out of a combo as wished. a very very diverse class, diverse enough that you wont see the same conq running around with the same play style (sometimes)....a hard class to master imo.

p.s. This one was made cause of all QQ about us ( there is no PvP in the movie )

no pvp in the movie or not,    good stuff,

and your sporting some of the new ranger gear i see ,   that mess is hard to come by i heard

To go into more Detail far as pvp goes

Population wise,  Cimmeria is indeed one of the most populated, but it is a mix of many rpers and pvpers in one melting pot. being on Cimmeria i can tell you first hand the rp community is established and have grown compared to 5 months ago, or 3 months ago at that.

Tyranny is all pvp, you wont find a event of any kind, just pick up a sword and cut some ones head off, straight and to the point  =)

(disclaimer:  excluding the several of player guilds on Cimmeria server that rp in their own respective guild cities  ie  Death Debauchery , Sheild of the Lion, Sleepy dragon inne)

guild cities are the way they are because they were not on the top of FC's to do list. and they will not be on that to do list for a very long time.

ghost towns because all guild cities are not only the same, but harbor no incentive except give you little particular buffs for your guildies.

no furniture

no interactive hubs of any kind accept the gate door, npcs that give you crafting stuff, and guards that will beat the crap out of you if you magically hit them.

no style of decoration to make your city unique , let alone building structure to boot.

no kind of player housing or barracks space for individual guild/ officer members to move around in

nada.

they could , and i am sure they will look into correcting all this, but two solid obstacles are in their way

1. they are fixing every thing else that is once again, on top of their list of fixing,  itemization which might i add has improved far more compared to 3 months ago,  lagging issues, also improved compared to 3 months ago, siege battles, steady improvment but still screws up once in a blue moon, and any other core content and game breaking issue that they are handling

2. majority vs. minority.  i hate this but its true,  take a look at the aoc servers, take a look at how many pvp servers and pve servers are there compared to  the 2 tangiable (RP)pvp servers (which will soon become 1 rp-pvp server once the merging is done)  are out there.   rpers are  a minority. i wouldnt go so far that Funcoms mindset was so much of being a guildwars game that you pay a subscription in, but the defense of that arguement is lacking when a.  social items are limited  b. once again  rpers are minority in AOC.

Funcoms actions are slowly proving this on their own, not because they dislike subs, but from the very very very very beginning, they strongly believe that rpers are self sufficent enough into policing their own community, for all FC has to do is deal with jacked up names on their behalf, just to show that they care . . .i guess.

I wont go no further on the deep end on this topic, but Guild cities are the way they are because of their mindset.

Will they add more content for social enviornments, would have to wait and see, but ill bet that waiting will be the amount of say  half a year or more?  quote me on that if you like.

well, now that you mentioned items.

here is a pic a few days ago of a rp event in cimmeria, it was a mix match of armor/clothes though but came up with a few interesting variations.   still with the side a brown unfortunately:

and the black and red outfit on the right:

pretty low rez,  because the actual size is on stupid resolution so i toned it down so its internet friendly so dont mind the jaggies.

One thing about this game is that items are not given to you, they are definitely earned, so if you dont want to run around looking like mr. silver surfer, or the brown avenger, you gonna have to suck it up and start hunting both lands and dungeons through epic mode.

At first i do not like these changes,   But now i am indifferent going on a "wait and see" approach.

unsure if this is the meaningful pvp people are looking for,  the idea of taking items (resources) from those who have worked for them through combat.  killing off people that mined and resources like crazy just to lose it (some or all) from a random ambush

knowing my way around the game since launch, I can perhaps bring up a scenario that would probably piss me off if i ran into them unknowingly:

Have  miners and harvesters doing their  hourly work  busting up rocks and collecting them for their battle keep or next  siege defense.  in  some,  or hell most cases  people collect these resources and due to the lack of inventory space in our guild locker (and self locker of course) some resources you are forced to carry with you.  but even before you even make it back to your guild city,   You have ganking guilds that always looking for their easy kill.  at times ive seen them form up  hunting parties and roam around low level areas or even harvesting areas just to kill any thing they see. some are notorious on making blockades on bridges or rivers , ambushing travellers  just to   A.   Kill them   B. threaten them for gold..and probably kill them . . or C. threaten them to take their pants off  (no lie...)

A few defenses would be of course being in your own instance,  but even that is not 100 full proof if they know which instance they are in,  they will find ya'll.

Im pretty darn careful at where to mine, and when to mine, those in non guilded groups are the ones that perhaps have to worry far more than i do.

but again, we'll see how it goes once it hits test live... and then  live servers

screw dx 10

the conq class is finally getting some love!

In the later future, ill give the game a try.

Atlantica:

"Alantis is back,  Evil is on the Movie."

I am a prick for pointing this out, but i am surprised the ad got past spell checker.

yes, im aware there are ads with errors here and there that we all come across, and I am a bad speller myself, but  what the hell, are mmo standards these days actually getting lower?
Ive always kind of wondered about role players.  I automatically assume they are 13 and have no life or 40 and they live their lives out of their mothers basements.
Teehee you are so clever. I have always wondered about PvP n00bs. They all seem like they are 12 and get beat up a lot so they take their frustration out on people in a game who can't hurt them. While they cry everytime they get beat in a game that the class that beat them needs to be nerfed and how it takes 'l33t skilz' to spawn kill people.

When games fail , sterotypes prevail.

it is twitch based only for melee imo,

however the amount of micromanaging you do including your reflexes and how comfortable your key placement is determines your ability and skill. they all equally have to work well with one another or you may get fustrated with the controls.
