Just purchased the preorder! Some questions...
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/08/08 1:46:57 PM
Well first off i would like to say i am making the leap from wow and age of crap to warhammer. I preordered the game from direct2drive and everything went really well. They sent me the open beta, items and head start codes immediately. So i highly recommend you purchase from them if you want no issues. My questions are the following. Is the open beta cd key used for the live launch as well, or will direct2drive send a live cd key also? I also wanted to know if the game includes a free month of gameplay, i haven't seen that stated anywhere during my purchase. Thanks for any info, cya guys around the 15th. I have high expectations for this game ;). |

Is the site safe? I feel kind of stupid for even clicking on the link in the first place. It just seemed weird because when you choose game its asking permission to download files etc. Seems kind of iffy to me. |

Yes i can see your point. After 7 years of anarchy online though you would expect things to improve with their 2nd title. I have definately learned from my mistakes though... If there is ever a 3rd title from funcom i will not be touching it ;). |

From what i have read there is a buddy key system but they still charge you money to download the game and you need to provide payment information to activate it. It's one of the worst trials in any mmo ;). |

I purchased age of conan and upgraded my pc. I was excited at first because the game really looks amazing in the screenshots. Lets face it, it's just eyecandy. Most of the player base play with terrible performance even if they own a high end rig. The few that play with good performance get first hand at how bad the game actually is. There is no end game content, the controls are akward and to me the combat system was just horrid. This game reminds me of something in the early beta stages. Games need to cater to everyone. Look at wow, everquest... The list is obviously bigger i am just naming a couple. Games like those make it so a wide variety of pc users can play the game smoothly and they offer good gameplay whther you are low or a high level. To me, age of conan stole my 50 dollars and ran away. There is no trial. If there was they would lose so much money because people could actually see how horrid the game actually is for themselves. Every other game i have played gave me the entertainment i paid for, aoc gave me a headache. So before you consider purchasing this game, seriously just do the research. The ratings it has are from pre-release when everyone was drooling over the screenshots. Notice how the rating goes lower and lower everyday, keep an eye on it. Maybe we need to stand up and demand some type of refund for this game. It's not just about the money we spent on it and upgrading our pc's. It's mainly about the ethics, we did not get what we paid for. If you enjoy the game that's cool, you are one of the few. ----- This is sort of a part 2 that compares age of conan to anarchy online. I have played anarchy online for years which is also from funcom. The graphics are very old. The game is notorious for having choppy gameplay. When you do missions you constantly freeze up in doorways regardless of having a great pc. Or if you are in a raid you will probably experience very low fps (around the 1-5 range). For some reason funcom could never get the graphics aspect of their games right. It's hard to explain unless you have played anarchy online. My point is mainly the lack of good end game content and bad performance has stemmed over from anarchy online to age of conan. Over the past year anarchy online has been copying wow. Every new content patch steals something directly from wow. For example things like target of target, the raid interface which is coming soon, vp which are just the same as honor points which are used to purchase pvp gear, the inspect function. I could list everything but it would take quite awhile. I expect them to do the same with age of conan. ----- In short funcom has really left us short changed. Are they allowed to get away with it? It seems anyone that speaks out on their forum gets banned or just ignored because of the lack of moderators. My advice is just to steer clear of this game. |

Debating on coming back and trying it again
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 3/25/08 7:14:11 AM
I was in the same boat as you before. I decided to come back only to see my characters were deleted by the company. After i sent in a ticket the GM assured me there was nothing they could do because it has been so long since i have played. They also refused to give me the veteran buff ability even though i bought the game (even pre ordered) 3 days before launch. That in my book makes me a veteran because i supported the game since the release. So i was stuck with a new character, no special buffs and oddly enough about 2 years of veteran rewards. I don't understand how i had 2 years of veteran rewards and they refused to make me an official veteran so i could buff myself and others. The Gm was not understanding at all and really just gave me a hard time. Anyways... I leveled up my character from about 1-30 doing quests which seemed ok but it go repetitive after awhile. Then i basically just broke down towers all the way to 90 (this was back when the exp was great for doing it). I tried all the new aspects in the game... the new battleground, piloting and the new class skill system. I really wasn't impressed at all. The game i bought years ago had completely changed for the bad. PvP seems really unbalanced also and the bounty hunter is so boring because 99% of the time your target is in space or in a house where you can't target them. In short do what others said and try the trial. I just think people stick to it because of the time they invested over the years. I personally find the game boring and meaningless now. |

To each their own. I guess this game would appeal to the young audience of like 8-13 years old. |

I wish i had something constructive to say about this game but i have read the overview, looked at the screen shots and watched the video. I must say i really am not impressed to see another Korean title with a kiddy theme. It seems like every week they are releasing another kiddy game. A contest to play this game seems a bit far fetched... |

This doesn't seem so cookie cutter as most f2p games are. It truly breaks free of those garbage games korea keeps sending us. The game has nice controls, nice graphics and performance. It really feels like a true adult themed game unlike garbage titles like 2moons. Requiem has better gore too :). The towns and environment look amazing. This game is really going to be hot once people catch on. 3 months later... bots, gold sellers. So enjoy it now while you can ;). |

Well first hearing about this game i thought it sounded like a good idea, then i hear you can only join the "good" side to fight evil. If i could actually play the side of conflict of my choice id give it a try :).

I have played anarchy online for a couple years, so trust me i have had my fair share of seeing what funcom has to offer. Anarchy online is a decent game however funcom completely screwed up the pvp system and i will explain how. They actually make it so health is a disadvantage (first ever mmo that i seen this), meaning the more health you have the more damage you take. Currently they are using a 30% damage cap based on the targets total health (used to be 40%), this basically means classes that use low health setups and are healing classes are basically unkillable in pvp unless confronted by a large group of people. This might seem confusing but it basically means you cannot exceed 30% of damage (based on ones total health) on a target. This brings inbalance and some classes completely gimped because they have no healing abilities. Classes with large amounts of health actually become weaker and are an easy kill. You might be thinking its not a big deal but what if this happened to AoC? Funcom needs to relize how to make decent pvp, and they even stated they werent experienced in this field and it definetly shows. Sure this game has alot of potential.. but i pray they do not mess up the pvp like in anarchy online. In every other mmo that ive played if i hit a monster for about 200, i am going to hit a player in pvp for about the same based on their armor values. This is the way it always should be, pvp caps on a targets health will be a mistake yet again if they go that route. |
