Well you know, when you're lying on your back at rock bottom, the only thing you can see is up. ;)

Ditto that. Pex was a cool dude. And he was always there to help you out when you needed him. I know he helped me out with events more time than I could thank him for.

You want to know what made me hit the cancell button?

A smilie.

That's right, a stupid stinkin emoticon smillie. It was this one to be exact: :P

It came in an announcement about the CU. There was a poll up in the CU test forum that asked us "Do you like the changes?" or something to that effect. 80% said no. 80%! The CU announcement said something to the effct of "The players have posted positive feedback about the changes, try it out :P" That's when I knew for certain that SOE didn't know it's mouth from it's asshole and I left. Looks like I made the right decision.

Last night, for the first time in years, I spent 6 hours on Dath hunting Rancors and NS... as a TKM/MR... and it was a total blast! All I can say is, once this thing is done, SWG is doomed.

Funny, here I am sitting in a PreCU AH cantina talking about this very topic... it was the Hologrind that was the beggining of the end, it was all down hill from there.

Huh? Which pre-CU AH Cantina? Where? I want to be there and play that.

Been playing every day for the last week or so. Not done yet, but it's getting there. ;) and it's PreCU.

Blizzard FTW.

Maybe the economy can get closer to how it should be if there weren't these bots and farmers around screwing everything up for everybody else.

Good stuff.

First, lemme say GO GO BLIZZ for stepping up and spending some of those billions on ensuring the game is clean.  Bots have never really been prevalent in that game, and its because of things like this.  I do not hope that they actually get money from this guy...but I do hope they shut him down.  For many reasons, actually...one of which is that the many people who were so bored with the game that they botted can quit and Blizzard can actually focus on making FUN stuff again...rather than all these grinds.

That said...

Dude, if you honestly think that taking all the botters and farmer out will "fix" the economy of the game then you have no clue what an economy even is or how it works.  Nothing can save your game economy because there never WAS one.  Its  a self defeating system, and has been proven to be full of bad math since the system was invented.

To put it simply, anytime there is no control over the INFLOW of currency....the economy implodes.  For most MMO's...this is the case.  Currency appears from thin air, and from repeatable sources.  To make an example.....

Imagine the US economy if it was legal to print your own money anytime you wanted.  How much do you think the dollar would be worth in a single year once everyone started making money all the time?  Not much, if anything.  In fact, it would render the dollar worthless almost immediately.  This is exactly what is happening in your stupid MMO economy.  Every time someone kills a mob that drops money, he just "printed" his own dollar and injected it into the economy.  Every time someone does a daily quest...he just "printed" another one.  There is no decisive control over either the INFLOW of money or the OUTFLOW of it to compensate.

Summary:  You are boned bub.  Your game never HAD an economy.  Your game had a pre-school bartering system...in which you had a loosely defined "worth" assigned to items which is based on what people are willing to pay.  What they are willing to pay is based on what they are capable of paying...and that is an ever increasing number.  Deal with it.

Seems someone needs a schooling in how virtual economies in game worlds work. Tell me...

In a virtual economy, what other ways are there to introduce money into an economy other than:
1) The money you receive from Non-Player Characters/Mobs,
2) Quests/Missions, or
3) Buying that virtual money with Real Life money?

Think about that... I'm curious to hear your reply.

I'm tired of all this. SWG is dead. My game ain't coming back. And this forum is the same old arguments carried out by the same people day after day after day. I think it's time to move along.

Someone shoot me an email or something when they decide to pull the plug. Until then...

Peace out.

The most "Star Warsy" experience I ever had in SWG was my first Imperial Crackdown while I was out in the field somewhere. Me, covert Rebel, running around grinding out... Commando I think... on Tatooine and all the sudden this shuttle lands near me and out come a whole lotta Stormies... coming after me! That was cool!

Other than that... I've got mixed feelings on it. Yeah somethings kinda maybe were, other things not so much. Even PreCU needed a whole lot of work, I've never understated that.

Rehash of a post I made yesterday...

I think the number one problem facing these folks (and I can expand this view to the entertainment industry as a whole) they've lost sight of the most important thing: Games are supposed to be fun. If they could take a step back and look at games the way players do, they wouldn't have to worry about looking at it as product units. If you put your heart and soul into what you are doing, if you have a real passion for it, you don't need to worry about making money, it'll take care of itself. If you want to say, that's just not how it works, read a biography on one of the greatest producers of entertainment the world has ever seen: Walt Disney. He never did anything he did for the money; he just had a passion for what he was doing and settled for nothing less than perfection.

I just wish I had a lump of clay.

But what have you won?  Absolutely nothing, unfortunately.  Your game is gone, never to return, and while teaching Lucasarts and Soe a lesson may be an admirable short-term goal, it has done nothing productive except inch your long-gone home closer to oblivion.

So what do you suggest? Go back to paying them money again?

Hate to break it to you...all companies only care about the money.

Those two words used together in this statement make it incorrect.

I didn't read this whole thread, so if this is a rehash, my appologies...

He does make a good and valid point:

Smedley revealed that he believes that the console space actually has an advantage over the PC when it comes to that particular genre. When asked whether or not he believed that a console MMO could be as successful as World of Warcraft, Smedley responded "I absolutely do, and in fact I think by having a stable platform where every customer has an online capable box is a huge, huge potential advantage in building an MMO because you've already got an online userbase. It's a massive advantage over the PC and we don't have to worry about graphics cards or things like that.

One major headache in making games for the PC is designing them to be used by the least common denominator. It totally kills innovation. By having a baseline standard that's equal across the board (the console hardware is the same for every player) you eliminate the inequalities from the equation and can actively work to exploit the systems full potential.

Now about the part that says Smed and Co will make a game that'll "KO WoW"... them actually being able to do that, well, let's just say it's not a horse I'm willing to bet on. I think the number one problem facing these folks (and I can expand this view to the entertainment industry as a whole) they've lost sight of the most important thing: Games are supposed to be fun. I really really hope no one takes this the wrong way, or turns it into some kinda flamefest; I'd just like to ask a simple question and get a logical answer.

What's the point of having both a "General Discussion" board and a "SWG Veteran's Refuge" board? You would think the folks who were paying to play the game would be posting over on the official SWG forums. I can appreciate the attempts at segregation made between the old and new players, but honestly it's a losing battle. People will still be people and troll and flame each other. Not a whole lot you can do there.

So I ask, is it really necessary? And if so, why?

Thanks.
