I upgraded my graphics card to a 5770 just to run this game, and it chugs along while in most areas. This game is definitely not optimized, but that's the least of my concern. |

Square Enix Speaks at Pre-release party

Beta had some rough edges but this is looking like a solid, more mainstream version of FFXI at this point. I'm keeping my CE pre-order. |

Microsoft raising Xbox Live membership prices

Microsoft raising Xbox Live membership prices

Anyone still playing the Xbox 360 needs to get with the program. PS3 is better in every single category, so jump on board. Trey for Life. |

MMORPG.com is mostly for those looking for an MMO to play. The general vibe is rather negative. I love the site, don't get me wrong, but people who REALLY enjoy FFXIV are on the Core forums, not here (in general anyway). |

Definitly the worst optimized game I've ever played in my long life of video games. E7400 @ 3.0GHz 4GB HyperX RAM Windows 7 64-Bit 5770
Low settings, 24-36FPS Looks great but gives me a headache. |

Originally posted by Falice Don't get me wrong, both aren't perfect, but Move has done a lot right. The Move launch library is definitely lacking any major apps, but MAG support and Sorcery are surprisingly good. On top of that, several key upcoming games have been announced to support it. The best part? Most games that support Move will also be playable with a regular DualShock 3 controller. In other words, if you have a Move controller, you can experience a single game in two different ways. Kinect looks cool, don't get me wrong, but the technology just doesn't work particularly well. My biggest gripe is that it ISN'T like Move in that it works with the core games, and it's basically changing the focus of the Xbox 360 from hardcore to casual. Don't beleive me? Look at the games aimed for next year, and what MS will be showing at TGS. MS is diverting all of it's attention to Kinect, and are making it a premium focus for the console. What's left? Gears of War 3. That's it. Sure, there are probably other games, but they'll almost certainly be multiplatform. This is a serious problem for people that got the 360 as a hardcore shooter console. Add the increased cost of XBL on top of that and you have yourself a bad situation for hardcore gamers. I'm kind of rambling here, but all I want to say is Move DOES work well with core games including FPS, action, and fighting games, while Kinect is severely limited. It's also worth mentioning that the Kinect will require you to stand up, which might sound stupid, but after a long day of work I'm sure you don't feel like dancing around a whole lot. The Move works like an arm extension with a mouse on it, so it's not something requires a great deal of energy to utilize. |

Hmm, I disagree 100%. I used both devices thoroughly at E3 and thought Kinect was a joke. It's inaccurate, laggy, and is much more limited than what people believe. You have to make sure you wear appropriate clothing when using it, are standing within a perfect "read area", and have sufficient lighting. The worst part is that it just simply doesn't work with ANY main Xbox games. Halo, Gears, Fable, etc. None will work with this device. It's completely diverging the Xbox market, and it isn't even particularly great. I played Sonic with it at E3 (probably the most hardcore game on Kinect), and it was terrible. People playing the game looked moronic and the input lag made it way too difficult. The Move on the other hand is incredibly precise. Each movement is mapped 1:1, and the controller is designed to fit into the hand ergonomically. It works with the core PS3 games such as MAG, Killzone, SOCOM, inFamous, etc., and it's much more affordable. The best thing is that it allows such incredible precision that you actually can immerse yourself into the environment of a game. I played SOCOM 4 twice with the motion controller at E3 and it was amazing how well it performed. Aiming was easy and natural, and it made shooting the gun so much more satisfying. Move over Kinect. |

Isn't it funny? I've quit and come back to WoW five times now (NOT exaggerated). I have also sold all five accounts that I used each time I came back. Now I'm thinking about coming back for Cataclysm even though I know I'll quit within two months. The gameplay in WoW is just reall fantastic and makes you want to come back. Then, once you're max level again, you realize how boring endgame is and how bad the community is. I wish FFXIV, SWTOR, and GW2 were already out... |

You don't need a $1,500 PC to run FFXIV
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV 8/29/10 5:04:49 PM
If you know how to build a computer yourself (it isn't hard, just be careful about static) then you can build a PC that'll run it on medium settings for about $650 out the door. |

Will 2011 spell the major decline of WoW ?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 8/21/10 9:59:21 PM
I keep quitting WoW and going back. I quit over 6 months ago for my 5th time and I'm already thinking about coming back. The game is stale, old, and repetitive, but no MMO has matched it since. EVE Online is the only other game I have found even close to being on the same level, but it feels much more "void". I was hoping for FFXIV to be good but I cancelled my pre-order after playing beta. I need to catch up on Cataclysm's offerings, because I'm considering coming back when it releases. I just wish Blizzard would make a new battlechest that includes WOTLK, becuase I'm not paying $60 for a game and then another $40 for the next expansion. WoW is too old for that crap. |

Originally posted by Emeraq Warhammer Online was disappointing but at least playable. FFXIV has the worst UI and k&m controls ever seen in a PC MMORPG. On top of that, unless you have a really good rig you won't be playing it with steady framerate. It's just a huge disappointment after waiting two years to play it. |

My quick first impressions on day 1 of my beta access.

Originally posted by Metalkicker While I feel as if you're being a bit harsh, I agree overall. Square Enix had plenty of resources to make a solid MMO and in my opinion they have failed. While some will find entertainment from the title, there are far too many issues to consitute a $49.99 + subscription in 2010. The UI/mouse are still the worst I've felt in a game and there's only one month left till release. The game has almost no optimization and as a result only those with up to date rigs can play it properly. The mechanics feel ancient and somehow even less robust than FFXI. I'm so disappointed I just want to cry. |

I'd really recommend putting your efforts elsewhere. I spent over a year talking about FFXIV on another forum and just played it for 1 hour and 30 minutes before cancelling my pre-order and calling it a day. It's the biggest game disappointment of my life. I kid you not. |

Do not buy SC2 if you are looking for something new

I'm LOVING StarCraft II, and it is something new to me. I haven't played an RTS since Dawn of War, and this game has outstanding content. I'd give it a 9/10. |

My quick first impressions on day 1 of my beta access.
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV 8/21/10 1:36:15 PM
Originally posted by mrcalhou I'm glad you agree with me. FFXIV has been my most anticipated release since MGS4, and it fell flat on it's face. Despite being above the system requirements, the game chugs along at unstable framerates even though I play on the lowest settings. The game looks good and the music is fantastic, but the pros end there. Combat is sticky and archaic, moreso than FFXI in my opinion. The UI is terribly hard to navigate with a keyboard and mouse. Also, the mouse feels like it's updating only 5-10 times per second which makes it incredibly cumbersome to do something. Heck, even the map is laggy. To summarize: I cancelled my pre-order after only 45 minutes of playing, and after playing for an additional 45 minutes this morning testing out the gamepad and settings, I am set on not purchasing this product. Square Enix is really screwing up lately with it's worst FF yet (Final Fantasy XIII) and arguably the most archaic MMO created in the past 5 years (FFXIV). I am actually still shocked at how bad the game is. |
