OMNI FTW!

And umm, certain parts of AO were really really well done, some not so much.

I think if they changed up the zones a bit, to make it more questy (than 90% random generated, and having to use 3rd party software to scan the missions to get the items you want) I would play.

Currently, I hate having to use a random mission generator 100 times over to try to find the one item I am looking for.

I think AO with a more WoW quest style (not saying WoW as a game, just saying their quests were well laid out) would be fun. I love the world, and the complexity of AO, just little features like the mission terminals were kind of bleh.

Once again, GO OMNI!

As much as I appreciate someone treating us like people, and not just cash wads, FoM really is a niche game and a dying breed.

The little combat there is in this game feels so badly done that is makes it not worth the while. Sure, the game is about RP, but when a battle breaks out, it should break out, not just random crap with bad aiming and bad collision detects.

Frankly, neat concept, but you stole my money once, i'm not resubbing to see what has been done.

Shows how much you know.
It is totally unbalanced, you can acquire the best items for your character within minutes and just go insta kill everything, using terrain/fog as a tactical advantage is not possible since the maps are just flat and the fog is RTS ala 98.
I must admit that I like it some, since It's easy to master because it brings no challenge nor depth to it.
I don't understand how you can say it has more gameplay and depth than dota, please elaborate on that, since DotA is 10 times more advance in gameplay, depth strategy.
This game brings no challenge, since it's just a lag fest which you just have to know how to get gold fast to obliterate your opponent.

Agreed. There is no variance to the items, every character set uses the same items whether they're ranged int or melee int, etc. It has no challenge to it, and the battles are so "Wow, this map is EXACTLY like the dota map" it's not even funny.
Frankly, the game could be interesting... but it's a bad attempt at dota.

Two evaluations I have made on you two thus far: 1) Only recently have you begun playing DotA (Maybe version 5 or 6?)
2) Ignorant
Do you know how long DotA has been worked on, for at least 2 or 3 years. That is a LOT of time to develop a game, this game hsa just gone into open beta, If I am not mistaken. Believe me if you say you enjoyed this at least a bit and very similar to DotA, then that means they have already done a okay job. When DotA first began, it had several characters, items, and terrain was passable. As the months and years went by DotA evolved into what it is not, very deep and tactical (as far as tactical goes in a custom map editor..). You say the main objective is to obtain as much gold to obliterate your opponents, well what the heck does DotA do then? Just level up? I don't think so, maybe if that is what you think.. I could only imagine how many kills you get a game. Getting gold is key to DotA to create stronger items. What other way is there to obliterate enemies in DotA? Tactics and skills? Don't make me laugh. Tactics are practically non existent if you consider all the different ways to gank as tactics and skills, spam skills in the way they do most damage.. yea won't be much late game.

However, the uncanny similarities to DotA is a little frightening, I only say DotA because it is the most popular map for that style. The DotA likeness is the only thing that frightens me, I hope it is at least unique.

I quoted you for ignorance. Yes, I know how long dota has been developing, I have been playing dota since before it was all-stars, back in WC3 RoC days, and yes, it has advanced, but no, this is not a good attempt at the game.

It simply lacks any variation, the sounds are HORRIBLE and irritating, and there is no challenge in comparison. Frankly, coming up with a game is a hard task, you would think copying the exact same template wouldn't be as hard as these guys make it out to be.

DotA was an original spin on the hero maps created in WC3, and has stood out because of it. This, however, is a steaming pile of azn garbage.

Sims Online... I don't know whether that's really a suggestion or a putdown, but to each his/her own.

Here's how I lay it out.

I was waiting for LOTRO, I liked the Monster Play ideas, I liked their story based progression ideas, it all sounded so great.

But here's the flaw:

Jump into beta, create a hobbit... ok, cool.

Start out with an awesome instaced story plot starting to unfold, complete it, go into the real world, and some of the quests in the zone play out to further the story, great. It seems there are different quest types, some that are side quests, some that are integral to completing the story, neat.

So, I set out to grab some quests, and complete the story. Oh look, a mailman, let's help him. First mistake.

"Please go to this town, find this mailman, and don't let any nosey hobbits see you."

Ok, that's kind of neat, a delivery quest with some challenge, especially since while you're carrying the pack you can't fight or anything...

Get to your destination "I have this package to deliver to this town, don't let any nosey hobbits see you"

Ok, cool... I can do this...

7 deliveries later...

I don't want to do one more mail delivery.

Pie Maker: Hi, I need you to deliver these pies to this location, don't let any hungry hobbites see you... OMG OMG OMG NO I WILL NOT DELIVER YOUR DAMNED PIES!!!

We've had a lot of posts about this in the past few days, but if really want to know, this is LIKE dota, but with a few key differences.

The shop system in this game is very bland, and simple. Every class uses the same builds every time: agi, int, and str all use the same items, no matter the hero.

The battles are slow, and unexciting. It doesn't have the versatile abilities of dota, so a lot of the heroes feel the exact same, which makes every game feel drab and repetitive.

Overall, stick with dota. This game really isn't all that special, and needs a lot of time to grow to the strategic masterpiece that is dota ;)

As much as I hate to be a dick, this game has to pick a category/genre. It's like they took every idea they could think of that was 'cool' and stuck it together into a jumble of a game.

Not really something I would play, but I guess some people might like it.

Good luck.

You know, the more I look at this, the more I think:

This looks like DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) from Warcraft III... just in a persistent large scale.

Are you kidding, an rts set in the World of Warcraft universe?
Now I've heard of some farfetched ideas but fan or not, I don't think it'll work, let alone ever spawn any sequels.

an MMO set in the Warcraft universe? impossible...

For the rest of us, here's the english version:

I think that your best bet might be, as stated, to search up the different options as to find out what things other people might find a better start.

Also, if you go over to www.gamedev.net there are a lot of new and experienced people in these exact fields that will help you find what you're looking for, and you will find a lot more advice there, than here.

I'm not going to lie to you, so here goes.

SUN, Project Wiki, and MU are just 3 examples of why games like Huxley shouldn't be hyped as much as they are.

MU was late, beta'd forever, and came out so buggy and hack ridden, that it wasn't worth it.

Now, their beta of SUN in Korea, was forever ago, and yet, we hear no word of anything after that point.

On the Project Wiki section, it says release "Within 2006"... that has come and gone...

Now all of a sudden they want to be the creators of a huge console MMORPG? Umm, if you can't finish a project that you apparently have beta'd publically... how do you expect us to believe you're going to release us a FINISHED product for our home consoles?

I don't see how Webzen comes off telling everyone they have these great games, gets them all hyped up, shows them off at big korean events, and yet lays dormant for months and months at a time.

The founders claim to be planning to release 60 to 100 games in the next five years, including a plan to release a PC game based on 300. link

I smell MMOCenter with funding, and people who know less than them about what they're doing... that scares me more than even MMOCenter ever could.

Logitech G5 and a ZBoard all the way!!!

as a note, I find my G5 to be great, how the hell do you sweat enough to slip on it?

Honestly, I play for 16 hours on days I have off, have never sweated, and never had slip problems with it.

Also, agreed that the DPI changer ON the mouse rocks, and the side button on the G5 rocks for activated abilities in DOTA ;)

Hmm...now I wish I had been following this game all this time. Here's something I pulled out of that article:
Another goal is to rid the MMORPG formula of large scale raids. Spellborn NV swore to us they'd never introduce content or dynamics in this game that require large numbers of players to band together.
Holy son of a virgin! Where do I sign up? Heh, that's the best thing I've ever heard about any of the prominent games in development. Now the question is; will they stick to it? I'll have to take a close look at this game.
Having group size capped at four seemed just a tiny bit small to me, though. Five or six might be better. But no problem. If they really do keep raiding out of the game they could come to my house and punch me in the face once a week and I wouldn't complain as it would be less painful and far more entertaining than raiding.
There was one thing in the article that disturbed me but, eh...I'll let that go for now untill I understand it better.

Characters in TCOS are less class set than something like WoW. So there is no need for such huge groups, when you have a lot of multi-functionality sitting right in front of you. That's more the formula of their grouping than anything. "Why the hell do we need 25 people, when 4 can do something decently, as long as they're not locked into single roles?"

Can't wait, tried to get into beta a million times, no luck.

I mean no offense by this... but wtf.

Housing? Come on. Housing is such a waste of system resources. Every game I have ever played with housing was only a way for people to show how much leeter they were than all the rest of their friends.

You want to show off? Prove yourself on the battlefield, don't just sit your ass in some cozy apartment while I'm off doing all the work.
