You heard right. As of today, SOE announced that Gods & Heroes will be cancelled until further notice.

As sad as that sounds... well, it is sad.

Atleast, this is the e-mail we got at EBGames today, from the head office.

Apparently in a long list of info that SOE sent to head office today, they said Gods and Heroes was cancelled.

I didn't even know Gods and Heroes was being published by SOE. I was so confused when I read this.

Anyone else know anything about it?

EDIT: I looked into it more, and it seems SOE does have involvement http://www.station.sony.com/pc.vm?sel=upcoming
I guess my info is not as wrong as it sounds. It's weird though, since we just got our pre-order boxes like last week.

Well, originally the beta was supposed to be open from early september to october 7. Except it didn't, so they told all the pre-order customers it would be a bit. Hence why I was announcing it.

For those of us who have pre-order boxes from their respective retailers, and have picked them up, the Hellgate London beta is now open.

The beta just opened around noon today, so in order to start, go to http://www.hellgatelondon.com and click 'Download Beta'

Happy hunting =)

If you don't have a pre-order box yet, go to your nearest EB Games, Gamespot, anywhere, and pre-order now to get your pre-order box with the beta =)

A few things I want to mention.

It rivals the graphics of Lineage 2? The year 2000 is calling, they want their 3D graphics with no effects back.

As far as the game goes, yeah, it's not bad. If you compare it to the other thousand free MMOs, it's a big hit, so if you like free games, go for it.

If you compare it to pay games (and yes, when it came out, it was a pay game, so this is a fair comparison) it's not worth a dime. It's a second rate game, and got pushed into the free category with the rest of the second rate games.

Sorry to rain on your parade, happy gaming.

You know, many people, including myself, are advocates of what Vanguard was trying to achieve.

How they did it, why they did it, schedules, whatever, do not matter. The key is that what they tried to accomplish, and what they ended up accomplishing, were 2 totally different things, as we all know happens all too often.

Back on topic. SOE is said to be making the all-encompassing 'patch to fix all the crappy inefficient code that screws up our game-playing' right at this very moment. The question, for me, is were to go from there.

Personally, I think once that patch is released, if SOE really wanted to show a sign of good faith, they would do a few things:

1) Do the natural SOE thing and give all previous subscribers a free month of play to test out the new features (you know they'll do it, SOE is great for that)

2) Give all subscribers of other SOE MMOs a free month of Vanguard, to spread word of mouth, and to gain interest from in-house

3) Re-release the game (which they already said they would be doing) in a new format, with all their force behind it

As I said, I am an advocate of what Vanguard was trying to do, and I want it to succeed. I bought Vanguard, loved it, just couldn't stand the bugs, and lack of players.

Any comments on what you think should be done?

If so, know that all of us that work at EB games, gamestop, or whoever else sold you your game loathe your existence, because you are the very reason that I get no sleep tonight, and have to be back at work in 4 hours.

Thank you all, have a good night, and I hope you like your Halo. Jerks.

uhm...I'm not hiding it...the game automatically puts the top link has a referral link, thats the address to it...I didn't change the referral link at all, just used what the game gave me. And anyways, I put a non-referral link too...so go away troll.

l2internet

were not morons here you know. fool your friends, fine. the rest of the world has a half decent IQ though, so we won't be quite as easy.

kids these days.

referral links are forbidden, and downright pathetic.

as was stated, your "non-referral" link is a referral link, so try again.

So, I got my FFXI for my 360. Yes, i'm a PC gamer, but I played it on PC and hated the controls. I loved the way it felt on PS2, so I hope it will be similar on 360.

I have 2 questions though, I hope someone can help me with them.

1) Are all the platform players on the same servers?

2) When 'Wings of the Goddess' comes out, does anyone know if you can buy it through the XBLive store?

I would have to say one of my favorite turn-based MMOs was Fairyland. It had a childish kind of style, but the pet system was a really neat touch. It was interesting to have different pets trained to boost different pieces of equipment, for different situations.

Sadly it shut down after about a year.

Still, I enjoyed the game immensely while it was around.

if only more companies would learn to do the same - unfortunately many of them are being RUN by the same type of hardcore whiner who thinks that unrealistic, irrational ideas and cutting edge technology is all it takes to make a good game.

Brad McQuaid was a prime example of that, imo.

And this one:
Morhaime urged potential developers to make sure that they don't run headlong into things and said that you should build on your successes, gain expertise and then get more ambitious.
"WoW was not our first game," he reminded us.

Vanguard was Sigil's first game. Altough BMQ was experienced in making games, and probably most of the team. It takes time and experience as a company on how to make games and provide quality in that. Sigil was a classic example of overreaching, too many idea's but no idea of how to actually carry them out.

Which is why its worth looking at Bioware's MMORPG. Bioware have the same reputation as Blizzard in producing good quality games, with every game they've made being great.

QFT Bud.

Everyone always says how "Oh, 'so-and-so' is only successful because they're big name, have tons of money, and don't have to do 'this' or 'that' like company 'b' over here".

Seriously people: Why do you think those companies got big name?

'If somethings worth doing, it's worth doing it right'

Keep that kind of philosophy, and you can't go wrong. Props to Blizzard for giving everyone a nudge in the "Hate us, but love how we always do things right" direction.

First comment!

And.. entered. Seems like a horrible way to try to attract beta testers... but okay. I guess it's one way.

Who knows, maybe they will fix a bunch of inherent problems in the game, like Blizzard did with Burning Crusade in this expansion.

Warmonger is made my NetDevil. After Auto Assault, I really don't care to admit they even make games anymore. They're the 'other game developer' who makes things we all point and laugh at.

As for the game, it says it's an FPS, as was stated, not an MMOFPS. Which means it will probably be server based (ie counter-strike) rather than persistent world, (ie planetside, which I see you play).

So as was stated, it does not belong on this site.

Here's the way it works. Every NDA is different, some have more open, some have more tight-lipped NDAs. This all depends on a companies standpoint, and what they need more: Word of mouth, or secrecy.

The rule of thumb is this: Don't do anything. Don't talk about being in it, don't talk about how it is. If you're just stating you're in it, it's bragging/flaunting, and is no fun for anyone. If you're stating things in it, it's generally overstepping a line.

Do yourself a favor, and just have fun with your games. Congrats to getting in, and I hope they're as good as the hypes are. I hate over-hyped, under-developed games.

I remember trying out the beta when it first came out. I vaguely remember it, as it was years ago. I remember the character creation being pretty cool (I was used to FFXI) but then I couldn't figure out how to play properly. Maybe I'll give it another go sometime.

thats exactly what i felt, except i enjoy the feeling of some confusion at the start, probably because ive played so many games which are the same
and in response to gameloading, i believe they are adding new missions, but i quite like the sandbox feel, so its all preference

As some background info, I started playing Ryzom in Closed Beta Phase 1, up until just after the North American servers went down. I will tell you, the game itself, is amazingly conceptualized. The problem, as was stated, was content.

Once you learn how 'Stanzas' work, and how to create and edit your own spells, the game gets REALLY neat. The open class system is a great bonus, and the background stories are amazing.

During the beta phases, they promised a lot of neat content, and a lot of it they delivered. The problem was, their questing system is crap. It's a mission system, similar to that of Anarchy Online, and gets really old, really fast. If someone could make a questing system that fit with the world story, the game would be great.

I hope you stick with it, and figure out a bit more. The crafting system is really one of the most amazing parts of the game, try getting into it a bit, and see just how neat it can get. Same thing with the harvesting and prospecting system.

It was probably my favorite MMORPG of all time, now if they had only made the content right, the North American servers would still be up, and I would still be GM Jeska ;)

Just as an FYI guys, Dofus is a game made in the macromedia flash/shockwave suite, and it's listed here. Contests, coverage, and listing. Therefore, flash/shockwave doesn't make it so it can't be listed... either that, or they're hypocritical.

But yeah, just a kind of reference there.

It's been happening for a while now, the more mainstream you get, the more tough you need to get.

Frankly, it's the entire reason why I don't post here much anymore, but simply read the news.

Any argument is considered a 'flame' or 'out of line' and it just goes too far.

I miss Enigma, poor guy and his family issues. =/

Man, talk about grave digging guys, we talked about this like... 2 years ago in this thread. lol.

Although, if you look at my original post on the first page, and what it links to, it hints to a possible Harry Potter MMO.

Although, again, that was 2 years ago, and no word.. so... good luck.

1.) Because it's a browser game ( and how runecrap ever got listed I'll never know), but the requirements for listing clearly state it has to have a client.
2.) Just like running ads for goldsellers, mmorpg.com makes no bones about what they advertise as long as the people pay the fee.

1. a game is a game.. no matter the format.

2. they promote anything no matter if it is a ripoff? just corporate agendas like the presidant, so no morals.. ok.

1) Yes, a game is a game, but MMORPG.com has listing policies. If you care to read through the boards, before barking at someone, it would help your case very much so.

2) PoxNora isn't an MMORPG. It's a tactical, turn-based figure-game. It's basically the online equivalent of playing HeroClix or something of that sort. It's not an MMORPG, simply an online game.

TR is a step back as far as mmorpgs go in my opinion. Firstly it pretends to be an fps but it really isn't, it's a first person rpg set in a sci fi universe. Secondly it is mainly a PvE game, I guess good ole British forgot what made UO so much fun (hint - starts and ends with a P)
The graphics are pretty cool but it is mainly you shooting npcs in an rpg style miss or hit system over and over and over again. From what I'm hearing the game esentially comes down to only 2 classes and is pretty much a grind.
Garriot hasnt done anything good in ages and i'm afraid he doesnt have anything new or good to offer the mmo community.

But its not "First Person Shooter" at all. Its played in the Third person. (Third Person Shooter???) All it is doing is not giving target lock until you hit a key and attaching specials to the mouse. JUST LIKE SWG tried with NGE. I play FPS games and TR is not even close to FPS. What the heck is the difference if I click on the mob once to select and again to attack or hold my cursor over it then press another key to "lock it" aside from the fact you gotta be annoyed with trying to keep the cursor over it while it hops around? Its just goofy and thats why SOE readded auto target/attack to SWG. Then the specials are fired from the right mouse button...now how does that make managing specials easier or better? Now you gotta hit a key to swap them out so you can fire them? Again, SWG tried this and it fell on its face so hard it about killed it. Its all Math based anyway, no twitch skill is involved other then locking the target, Its level / gear based combat. (pressing the mouse key to fire each shot at a locked target is not twitch based combat, its an illusionary psuedo style combat. The same MMORPG mechanics are still running under the hood only now its making you press more buttons for the same thing)
(you can get a complete description of this in several dev interviews including one where RG walks you through EXACTLY how it works, so no, I'm not breaking the NDA)
But yeah, its maybe not a full step back because I really don't know how many more step backs this genre can do before it steps off a cliff, but its not really a step forward either. Its more of the same with a new skin. I hate to say it but its not going to outdo SWG in terms of the raw amount of features. Its going to have some pretty nice missions but thats about it. I have not seen anything on vehicles, housing, crafting, guilds, space at all? what dynamic impact the players are going to have in this if any. I am picking up the vibe its going to be very similar to GW only with persistant areas. Scripted style, linear console type gameplay in MMORPG's FTW? ug....So much for free form gaming, time to get back on rails.
What I don't understand about MMO devs is if they want to do a FPS combat style why don't they just do it? It can still be third person. There are a number of console games that use shooter from third person. FPS is this: you have an aim reticle. If you fire and the reticle is on target, it hits. If you are not on target, you miss. (modified by the balistic characteristics of the weapon in use) Whats so hard about that? Whats with this clumsy button mashing these guys insist on doing? Hot key the specials, bam ...done. Its no different then a regualar shooter were you swap out different weapons for different effects and damage. They are hot keyed. You use your right mouse to aim / zoom normally.
Instead they keep trying to reinvent the wheel by trying to attaching math based combat to it.
Sorry for the rant...lol...I got carried away...

I will say in TR's defense that their "Crouching" "Walking" "Standing Still" and "Cover" ideas are decent. You get more damage or less damage based on your stance and position, and you're more or less likely to get hit when you're in certain positions/stances.

The problem is the math right now though. When you're running let's say, at level 5, you'll do like 4 damage to an enemy IF you hit (because your precision is less when you're running), then you crouch, and you're doing 40 damage for example (but more likely to get hit). So yeah, the system is nice, but a 10x multiplier for standing still is a bit much. And I know it's beta, and I know the classes and such still need to be balanced (A LOT mind you) but basic math is still basic math.
