as much as you don't want to hear it, guild wars.

if you watch any of the informative mythic podcasts, information sessions, or have played DAoC, mythic has a way to deal with realm balance issues that works well.

in other words, pick whatever you want to play. population is a stupid reason to choose what to play in a game.

When I played AoC I played on absolutely maximum settings, with a full 60FPS, no drops, ever.

I don't see what all this performance crap is.

Mind you, the game really isn't all that good, but the performance ive never had an issue with.

I've been applied to beta for.... lemme check.... 15 Months now. Still no acceptance. My specs are WAY over the minimum. Boo.

They make me cry.

check it monthly...

I dont know what your price range is but i suggest the 8800gt, it was the best card last year and still the best card. you cant go wrong with it now, you can find it for 150 bucks some places. DX10 or DX 9 is a question that has no importance when buying a new card today. All of them are dx capable. You shouldnt even be concidering a card that isnt.

This card can run crysis on max graphics. the 4000 series ati card might be better but keep in mind, it is totally unnessesairy, especially if you are just an mmo player. And even if you weren't... the video cards are moving faster then the games. 8800 gt will be all you need for a while to come.

While the 8800gt is a great card, it's starting to get dated. Yeah, it's price effective, but how much longer is it really going to last you? Sure, if he's running an outdated single or dual core PC, which I am assuming he may well be, running a dell and all, it will last him a bit.

So yeah, with your current rig, good recommendation.

What does your motherboard support?

Does it support PCI Express?

Dual or single?

PCI-E x16?

Are you looking for DirectX 10 support?

What is it that you're trying to run exactly?

And what are your other specs? An over powered graphics card wont do you much on a subpar system.

I'm running quad core and dual graphics cards, and the game runs max... it's beautiful.

On another topic, somewhat related to the original, I know SOE reactivated accounts till the end of july.

If someone were to make a trial account today could they play till the end of july as well?

It isn’t just about chain attacks being on timer or not, there are more factors then just the timer window on the chain reaction.
Example with skill queue:
1.     Use first skill
2.    Queue second skill
3.    First skill crits – opens chain reaction
4.    Activates second skill and crits – Renews timer on already available chain reaction.
5.    Activates Chain attack

1.     Use first skill
2.    Queue second skill
3.    First skill crits – opens chain reaction
4.    Activates second skill
5.    Enemy stuns you – Chain reaction lost

Here are just two examples where you at the first example lose one extra chain attack and second you lose your only chain reaction, all due to a skill queuing.

Personally, I love Vanguards combat. It isn’t a tedious as AoCs combat and not as laid back as Lotro, it’s somewhere in between and it suits me very well. But by all means, if they decide to add an optional skill queue system in Vanguard, I couldn’t care less, as long I can click it OFF in the game settings.

Agreed.

Also, as a pally, my "block" skill chain has an active timer of about 3 seconds, and every time I accidentally use another ability, I lose my chance to use it.

Crit chains seem to have a longer timer, don't know why...

Either way, the combat system in VG is pretty great.

After playing a mage in WoW for more than 2 years, getting bored, leveling a druid and a priest, and realizing nothing ever actually gets fun about WoW combat, it's a great change.

Also, on a side note, it seems more and more people are switching to VG every day. Hoorah! ;)

Lobotomist, I don't think you have actually read what people are saying about skill chains and counter attacks.

Most classes (all that I have played) in Vanguard have special abilities that can only be triggered when specific other conditions are met.

IE: You hit skill 1, skill 1 crits, Skill SuperUberMega is now available for use only for a short window because skill 1 crit.

Now, if you had already queue'd up another skill, and ended up using that skill instead, you would no longer have the ability to use Skill SuperUberMega, because you were dumb enough to queue another spell and not wait to see if Skill 1 had crit or not.

Multiple people have stated this, and you have yet to actually respond to it properly.

If you look at it from a technical standpoint, queueing skills would inhibit your use of such 'chain' abilities, thus rendering them useless, and taking a really neat aspect out of the game.

I'm really sorry for anyone who is anticipating any Webzen game.

First off, all their prior games have been total garbage.

Second, every game they have in development has had release dates set years previous to now, and never saw any light of day, nor any explanation as to why nothing ever came of them. Huxley is one such title.

I was excited for Huxley, and a few other of their titles. I eagerly awaited their release, or even testing... yet... years have passed since then.

They either need to a) stick to timelines or b) stop committing to unreasonable goals.

1) This game has been in development for way too long... I remember reading about this before WoW came out...

2) It looks like they bought the engine rights from Fairyland, if anyone else remembers that game. Nice looking, but still isometric and cheap

3) ... North American release date? I hope not. Keep it to the asias.

Wait... who are you? And why should everyone care?

Oh wait.. i'm just going to leave this post, and go on with my life, just like I should ;)

Found another Dragonball Game video if anyone cares.

http://www.gamesfather.com/video/BestLVzqk9TUca8.htm

That's the same video clip, from someone elses camera, in the same room... except the quality on this persons camera is... you guessed it... OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!!

Frankly, and this goes the same with the million DBZ games for the PS2 and beyond that are the EXACT SAME, they need to let this franchise die. If the game works anything like the show, you could walk on the moon before anyone makes a single attack. Yes, I went there. How many episodes did they need for someone to charge one attack anyway? Did someone keep track? or did everyone just skip to the last episode?

Do you think the XFX Geforce 8600GTS 512MB PCI-E will be okay with AoC?? Will buy a couple of gbs of Ram aswell:)

As long as your motherboard has an open PCI-E slot, or even has one to begin with, it will be fine. I run a 9800 GX2, 4GB of ram, and an AMD Phenom, and it runs easily on max. An 8800 with those specs should run low to medium low, no issues.

Again, make sure your motherboard has a PCI-E slot that can support your card, and you should be okay.

Good luck :)

So, first of all, saying things about associates like "we will say anything to get you to pre-order" is not exactly nice. Were human beings too you know. You think were not customers like everyone else? Seriously.

Second, yes, beta keys went out a long while ago. I work at an EB Games in Canada, and we got our keys weeks ago. They were gone within a day or so. More than likely they are already out of keys, unfortunately.

There is no way to get more, unless head office sense them of their own free will. We may get more at release, but that wont do much for beta, now will it?

Unfortunately your best bet is to keep checking, they might get shipped more soon. Other than that, look around at other places, and see if they still have keys.

I really feel that the industry is going to get so specialized, with so many companies concentrating on so many specific aspects of game making, that creating games, and MMO's, will be more like stepping up to a buffet (I will use productX for my game world and productZ for my character design, and productY for my collision detection, ect.)... and that is when I will give it a go.

I agree 100%.

With all these new engines for this, or that, or 'the players want this feature that requires a full-blown team to create and will now be a staple of games' and what not, not to mention that there are now specialized degrees popping up everywhere, things are going to get a lot more specialized, and a lot more competitive.

The video game world is still a baby in most aspects, and as with everything, will grow and evolve. If you look at any company model, it always changes, jobs come and go, morph and expand, whatever.

So yeah, I agree. Things are going to change a lot, and keep changing. The key is knowing what you like. What really drives you. What makes you want to be in this field.

If you can find all that, and get your head planted somewhere, then get your foot in the door, good luck to you.

Don't listen to the flaming forum crawler above. Heres how it works.

In order to change an order, we need you to come into the store physically. Yes, it sometimes happens that we mess up an order, we are only human. What you need to do is come into the store, because you will have to sign an authorization slip. The idea of the slip is in case you claim that you didn't authorize this, there's no room for error.

It sucks, it was a mistake, but mistakes happen. They will happily change your order, and no, they won't be sold out. Allocations wont be out until the last month before the game comes out, so up until that point, game stop will allow them to keep ordering. After that point, the distributor can't promise more stock, and therefore gamestop will stop orders, to try their best to make sure everyone gets their copy on day one, instead of having to wait.

If you think in a less narrow-minded perspective than "They're out to get me" it makes sense. However, if you just want to whine, read above my post.

Hope that helps.

Have fun with your new hobbies. Send a postcard.

The only thing that interests me for the time being is this damn girl I cannot get out of my thick-skulled head and writing some new drumbeats and guitar riffs... That is about it.
What a wonderful world we live in.

I wouldn't be so quick to throw stones when your xfire profile in your sig says that over the past 7 days you've spent more time playing WoW than I have at my job.

Apparently you don't work too hard then, considering I work 48 hours a week at my own job, and have a wife, not to mention a nice set of inlaws that love to drop by at the most inopportune times.
Rather than me playing too much, maybe you work too little. You don't achieve anything in life doing it half-assed. Try putting a little effort into your life, it might help a bit ;)

I honestly dont know how you do it, between my wifes college courses, 2 kids, and a full time job, Im lucky to squeeze in more than 20 hours in a week. Whats your secret?

If you want to know the truth its a) I don't have kids and b) it's 4:30am here right now. I have to work at 8am, but 2-3 hours sleep works well enough, with maybe an hours nap when I get home from work.

Today was my day off, my only day off in any given week, so I tend to sit down for a while and play. Today, other than making dinner, I was on WoW from 1pm till about 30 minutes ago, so that gives me 15 hours, give or take with making dinner, taking my dog out, and dealing with other bodily functions today only.

After work, I tend to squeeze in two to three hours a night, with just enough time to snuggle on the couch a bit, watch some tube with the wife, talk about the day, and hop into bed for the night. Since she gets home late, it makes my personal time a little more available.

Want to know what color my sheets are too? Or does that satisfy you enough? Hell, I play with a bunch of married couples. Want me to get them in on this too? I'm sure they could tell you how to schedule some fun into your day too.
