I dont know why people still argue about graphics. They are what they are. AoC has shown that amazing graphics wont save a game and Daggerfall (and THOUSANDS of games like it) have shown that a game can go above and beyond to the level of absolute fantastic-ness (?) without any help from graphics at all. I have to disagree with Ihmotepp Classes are all well and good until you get bored of your class or wish to branch off in a direction thats unintented by the class designer. This drawback, rampant in todays MMO atmosphere, is largely avoided by a skill based system. Largely. Balance contradicts placating a player's every desire... by forcing him to choose some of this and some of that you ensure balance, but contradict freedom. Being said, thats still better than Forcing him to pick from classes 1-12 that will never have any other skillset than that which they were intended for. Skills let the players create their own class in the same way that spore lets players create their own creatures... it may be shallow to a degree (you have one goal when making a build: to own) and people may end up hopping on a FOTM (pistoleer/fencer/TKM! OMG!), but the skills allow you to mold your character, not pick the best-fit mold and go with it. End rant. |

TL:DR for the whole thread so im sorry if someone already posted this 1. Bee's Knees = B's & E's = Be alls & End alls 2. Skill based is simply superior to me. Can't speak for anyone else, though. It gives me all the freedom I want to create something in the image that I please. Skill based games that acheive the type of character customization that SWG did are the only ones that truly draw me in. End rant. |

I like Mythic and this patch is very very much needed, but I have little faith in any company doing this many changes to the core of their game in this short of a time frame. It just seems like to way to many changes for any team to have conducted a reasonable amount of gameplay testing. My fear is that this will be just as useless as the EQ2 combat re-balance that essentially just shifted around the problems. Fixed a few classes, broke a few classes and few classes traded places between good/bad.
Maybe I am jumping the gun, because despite my reservation I am very excited about this patch. The class I really want to play is just so terrible right now and in desperate need of fixes. Between the server mergers, class patching and the details of patch 1.1, I have to give credit to Mythic for realizing the big problems in the game and trying to address them."
--Peanut gallery trolls because argument is lacking evidence-- Ok. Whats wrong with fixing your game? ALOT? All at once? There is only one type of patching that should be frowned upon and thats NGE patching. Besides that there is NOTHING wrong with trying to better the game. It was a good game before the patch and its a better after the patch. Nuff' said. |

I love the engineer class concept and hate its implementation. They are the ipitome of a support class. You will not be able to kill any other class 1v1 if they know 2 cents about what theyre doing. Your job is to debuff, slow, knockback, and otherwise harass the enemy team while providing fire support and AoE damage/debuffs.
Do not expect to get solo kills as an Engineer. Your priorities are as follows : A. Slow /snare the enemy team B. Debuff the tanks C. Make the healers heal themselves instead of somebody else... leaving then DPS and tanks wide open to assault D. Splash some light damage around so you feel good about your top rank in the Total Damage Chart (You can probably make top total damage every round... you will also die alot and never actually have a killing blow...) |

Gutboy is flat-ass wrong. I'm a SWG vet. I want to kill rebels. AND YES! I want to be able to drop commando and take TKM AND GO BACK IF I DONT LIKE IT! I want to be able to be a rifleman-docter who dabbles in droid making. Best thing that ever happened to MMOS TYVM.
Now... moving on... Im looking for a release date or a beta tag... |

WAR is a WoW clone, and a DAoC clone, and a VG clone, and an AC clone (cant go back much further while maintaining 3d graphics hehe). Its just closer to WoW than it is to the other games (Yes... at this point I beleive its closer to WoW than DAoC... but thats just me) BUT! Thats fine! The game is wicked fun and provides a fresh new start. Hopefully they wont botch this game as hard as Blizzard botched theirs. |

This is a thread concerning the posts made about WAR... not the game itself. Has anyone noticed an anomaly with the WAR posts? Every game dating back to SWG (When I first started trolling MMO forums) has had a bell-curve of responses... some polar but mostly mild feedback concerning the game. AoC was an exception here where the bell curve was shifted negatively by a standard deviation (or two). (More than its fair share of the posts in the AoC forums were trash.) But for WAR.... every freakin post is either feast or famine... its completely missing the mild feedback and either revels in praise or hangs it head in ridicule.
Thoughts? |

I have the upmost respect for EVE. I would be playing it RIGHT NOW if but for one thing - I cannot stand the fact that players have to train in real time and can do nothing to speed the process up in game. Besides that... the game is fantastic; but Ill wait for JGE and play Vendetta and fly WWII:OL til then. |

I don't care if he's a troll or not - he brings up a good point. As I said, I believe that, while the lore behind 'fantasy' has always been a genre, Tolkien pretty much constructed a formula for fantasy settings that nearly all fantasy games strictly adhere to. One could argue that other Authors were similarly influental; Robert Howard (Conan), C.S. Lewis, and so forth. The genre was more diverse before the 1950's; Oz was considered a fantasy realm circa 1900, providing a watermark to compare modern fantasy settings to. |

Releasing a game is alot like running for president. No matter who you are... you're gonna be on the pointy end of more than your fair share of criticism. I don't care if the game drips of divinity.... someone is going to bash it.
That said... even if the game is a putrid, rotting corpse it will attract at least one fanboi. I'm not going to judge any games, but I will appeal to the polar sides of the community; you can dig up posts much akin to this one about the AoC beta...
There are two edges to that argument. I don't think WAR is either of them. It's probably (I havn't played it) some good DAoC style fun with good old DAoC style mechanics... broken ones. I will buy this game simply because Mythic made it... I'll put down my final thoughts a month after release. |

I would like to point out that WoW is an MMO phenomenon and that no MMO is likely to breach those standards for a long time. |

However I find that WoW spends most of its time on items and focuses less on things like skill and tactics. BUT AoC boasts more than the skirmishes you may dislike (because you lose?) Battlekeep battles are actually rather enjoyable and... I don't know why Im arguing this... maybe its because the servers are down for a patch. Back to the game then...
