Title says it all. It boots up thru steam but when I put in my info it says 'cannot connect to server' ... the first time I opened it, it let me create a character, but then it wouldnt let me start or skip the tutorial mission so I closed it.
Thoughts? Has anyone heard of certain connections/areas not working? Or is a server down? |

Is it wrong for Tasos to stand up for his company, his work, and himself?
General Discussion « Darkfall 5/11/09 2:39:48 PM
This post is a technicolor disaster. I'm beginning to like Tasos more, now. A publication of the server logs (regardless of how the online community would attack their integrity) would be HYSTERICAL! See theNoob comic for details. |

Insert the usual defenses here.
I figured I'd spare you the long, drawn out, pretentious banter that [us] fanbois usually reply to these reviews with. I love the game; but I can definantly see where some people would be put off. |

Love it. Play every day. |

[8 hours later] Right: to clear things up. First: The empiricle data. Planetside was epic, but wasn't deep enough to hold it's player base indefinately. WWIIOL has (yes HAS - 109f pilot, reporting for duty) its issues: including, but not limited to, visibility clipping (the 'threat' system), Alt-F4 cowardice (an issue DF has too... I think...), and long range server-tracked munitions.
Second: Take it easy :) I (was? am? Insert the appropriate conjugation of the verb 'to be' here) trolling to pass the time between classes. But I have to disagree with you; I find that mimicking the behavior of miscreants, even over the internet, is the e-quivelent (made a punny) of "Stooping to their level", and mars your professionalism. I just thought I'd remark on how your post was very well stated right up until you punctuated with "LOLOLOLOL".
Now -on even ground- I stand by my position, even if dismounted. "A horse... A Horse... My kingdom for a horse!" |

See? Did that make my post any more credible? Not, Scott.

Gawd I wish people would stop trying to rip this game a new one. I was at Murder Mountain when the sh*t hit the fan and that battle was EPIC. |

And here I quote the case of Neocron. Reakktor had a terrible account management/support system... and half of their employees didn't speak english! Even so, the game was very popular in its day, and still has a (small) underground community that continues to play.
Poor account management mitigates success, but does not fortell doom. |

I wholly agree with you on that. They get terrible marks on the business end of things. Account managent is poor; the availability is abysmal - the exchange system equally so.
On the bright side - it seems like they're working their asses off to fix all of these things in due time. I'm actually quite impressed with what the company has fixed thus far. Their commitment to the game (the GAME, not their community. I'm glad Adventurine has an idea that is DF and refuses to submit to the will of a few loud mouths) far surpasses the beurocratic, dystopian relationships SOE has with its games. |

That might be one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. Who would GIVE their game to SOE? Sony's refurbishment of appropriated property is more commonly known as 'THE KISS OF DEATH'. Everything they touch turns to a steaming pile of crap (eventually).
I don't think DF would sell it's soul for decent account management, decent server maintenance, and a more qualified staff. I don't think Adventurine is willing to murder Darkfall like that. |

I can't register an account. It gives me a vague error and tells me to contact my administrator. Any fixes/ideas? |

That's an ugly generalization. What does nationality have to do with this? It's a documented logical fallacy to attack the qualities or motives of your opponent rather than his ideas. (Argumentum ad hominem) And Byzantium was founded in 667 BC, making the Byzantine Empire 2,675 years old. |

We have it down to a science here in Texas. If you own dogs (big, loud dogs), anyone who breaks into your house is obviously not threatened by confrontation and it is your legal right to shoot them dead without warning.
But make sure they're dead. If they live to testify things get sticky.
Now lock this thread for being off topic lol. |

You can only take my word that I have a great social life. (Im trying to avoid talking about sex on the MMORPG forums.) I also play soccer and fence (sabre). I have a job as a student teacher in the engineering department here on campus.
AND I just played Left 4 Dead for 5 hours.
So now that you have my dossier:
All things in moderation. Everyone has their way of "ticking away the moments that make up a dull day" as Pink Floyd would say it. If you want me to do something more productive, for instance, memorize Farenheit 451 in preparation for a global liquidation of books.... shove it. I do 3 things to relax: drink, game, and ... |

I have to debate a few things about your responses, THeodgrim
1) THe enemy always attacks where you are not. The attacker always has the advantage. He can decide when and where. It is up to you to mount a defense. This is STILL true on the 'front' aspect of the gameplay... but was simply more traditional back in the day before the capture lines were implemented. IF you wanted to schute in or drive a column all the way to Leipzig and take it... Hooah!
2) Yea... there WERE graphics cards.... not ones that remdered the 25 square miles of targets you saw from a Blenheim
3) See 2
4) the WWIIOL engine is NOT bad... not by far... the physics of vehicle combat is SUPERB... the vehicle models and projectile paths are AN EXAMPLE TO BE FOLLOWED in future MMO's. They simply sacraficed realism for graphics. If you dispute this, research how the WWIIOL models are put together, and how the game calculates the hits, or even keeps track of projectile paths. Its simply incredible. |

My mistake about the patent date. But I have to disagree in principle as to the validity of worlds.com's case. Patents protect unique intellectual properties, and even in 1996 an architecture that provides a 3d multi-user environment wasn't a stretch of the imagination. Even if it is the patent offices' fault for giving the intellectual property that every modern MMO utilizes to this ONE company, there should be some statute of limitations on how long you can wait before piping up about a violation of your IP.
Sorry for the run on sentances. |

lol I would like to beleive it was the fact that the game was very linear and repetitive... not the name :) |
