Returning player, class questions
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 11/03/11 8:57:53 AM
Welcome back!
Well, the classes havent changed TOO drastically over the years, the main archtypes will still be the same. If you are looking for main heals AND CC/support, i'd suggest a pac healer in midgard. Leveling is a breeze at the moment, and you are sure to find lots of groups in the BGs are you lvl up. my favorite lvl 50 spec is 40 mend/36 pac, but there are other variations. Honestly, my rr11l6 pac healer has always been one of my favorite toons of any game, so that is what id suggest!
Bard is also very fun right now. If you are looking to stay in the bgs, or just want to do some crazy dps while being able to heal, you might want to look into heretic.
Whatever you choose, glad to hear you are making a return, welcome back! |

Why do you have so much faith in this game?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 10/17/11 10:50:13 AM
Because NCSOFT showed me with AION that they can make a very fluid, virtually bug-free game. Take that solid game and add in the amazing artwork/style/proposed mechanics and you have me way stoked to play GW2 |

I hadnt heard a thing about this game before this last beta, but wow, this game is EXCELLENT. It is such a perfect mixture of great MMOs(DAoC/WAR/WoW). I am particularly fond of the PvP and the class system. I preordered already for me and my wife. Where was the hype for this game!? |

I find it strange that some people are complaining about certain aspects of the game not being "revolutionary" or "new" (such as what the previous poster said about combat). As far as i have seen, Rift has never tried to boast a new or revolutionary combat system, rather a unique class system (which it is, and a very well done system in my personal opinion). It is like buying a carton of milk and saying "Yea, this is really good milk, but it just isnt chocolate milk... I mean, i know they could add chocolate and it would be so much better." Well, why do you expect to get chocolate milk, when all that the carton is promising is GOOD, YUMMY , plain old white milk? and let me assure you, it is very yummy indeed =) |

Very nice write up OP.
I am in pretty much the same exact boat. I hadnt heard of Rift until the day before Beta when old DAoC buddies texted me with a vip key, asking me to come join them. I also am pre-ordered now. Is the game revolutionary? No. Does it look solid in terms of polish and good PvP? Certainly. It just takes the best of some of my fav MMOs (DAoC class diversity, WAR PQs, WoW BGs, Aion quality graphics) and throws them into a game im certain will not be a huge "success" in terms of raw subscribers, but will find a place with a lot of vet gamers who can appreciate what they are doing here. |

Wow-Hammer-ion of Camelot! My first impressions of Rift Beta
General Discussion « Rift 1/29/11 3:51:56 PM
"A few classes to 20 during this beta event aye? uh huh." Yea, i just took a mage to 19 (pyro/storm/dom), rogue to 20 (marksman/assasin/ranger), and a warrior to 17 (didnt really enjoy him as much, thus i didnt even take him to 19 ). Obviously i spent most of my time PvPing int he BGs with these chars, i lvl'd both the mage and the rogue from 14-19 simply through the BG. The rogue i lvl'd a lot of 10-14 by doing rifts/the rift invasion event and got him the blue planar weapon for 5x 200x as well as the blue chestpiece 3x 100x Now i know you cant base a game off of the first battle ground, but ive played enough MMOs to know that the general direction is the right one. I play MMOs pretty much solely for their PvP (i will do the PvE , but it is more of a means to an end). I also took the liberty of running my rogue through various zones, including scarlet gorge, etc just to check out the environments (which I LOVE). I hadnt even heard about this game (i havent been playing any MMOs lately) until the day before beta, when a bunch of old DAoC buddies texted me with a VIP key. i pretty much played the next 3-4 days as much as possible^^ |

Wow-Hammer-ion of Camelot! My first impressions of Rift Beta
General Discussion « Rift 1/29/11 2:07:05 AM
So far i have found rift to be a pleasant mixture of WoW, WAR and Aion. In fact, it is like Trion just plucked out some of the more enjoyable aspects from each of the games, and mixed them into Rift. I hadnt been following Rift, and actually just played a few characters to their 20s this last beta. However, i really like what i see so far. The game isnt trying to do anything spectacular, rather just take the systems from other games that work, and put them all together. The class system is VERY cool though, i must say. Perhaps to the point that i could call this Wow-Hammer-ion of Camelot ^^ But yes, is this game bringing something AMAZING AND NEW to the table? No, not really (at least from what i have seen). Is it putting together some of the best systems from other games, and presenting them in a very polished and fun way? Certainly =)
Just my two cents from spending the past 3 days Playing this game! |

As a GM of our Guild, i had a good friend player report a suspected "botter" in our guild. The only problem was that the bot belonged to me =) I then proceeded to put on an act for over a month of telling him my "conversations" with this botter, and how at first i couldnt get ahold of him, etc etc. If only that person knew that it was me running the bot on 2nd comp the whole time >.< |

I dont spend much time on the forums, but when i checked in , i realized that the vocal minority really paint this game a bad picture. Personally, i am lvl 44 (about to hit 45) and i am loving this game. My character has over 4,500 pvp kills, and is 399 skill in two professions. I come from a long history of DAoC 8v8 , and even though the game and community is still maturing in that aspect, i have found the PvP to be very engaging and complex enough to provide a skill > lvl /gear. Just tonight as a lvl 44 sorc, i was able to 1v1 down a lvl 49 sorc twice who had rifted into OUR lands. Using a different cast rotation, and countering his spells i was able to turn the fight in my favor and beat him twice. I have had many 1v2 , and 1v3s with same lvl players and was able to come out on top due to using proper kiting/reactions to their skills/attacks. Given the PvE in this game is fairly bland (i personally find any PvE to be bland though), that is not my focus nor goal in this game.
I would say to any PvP oriented player out there that is looking for a solid, bug free MMO that Aion is a great game to pick up . |

Have been playing a Sorc/Cleric duo with my wifey for the past few days and i have been loving the game! I played DAoC since release (ran high end 8v8 as rr11 pac healer), a bit of WoW, and WAR (rr70 bw), and i must say, this game has been a great mix so far. Just the smooth , unique, new-style (aka asian) graphics and combat styles/graphics, fun environment/questlines.... I dont know, my wife and i have just been taking it nice and slow , just enjoying everything from the amazing character customization (she spent 20min with her character lol), to the fun emotes/environment. And the flying is amazing. It just has such a good, fluid feel to it.
Anyways, here is a short clip i uploaded, no sound, that sort of "captures" the whole feeling i am trying to describe. (frapsd this to show a bud of mine the flight). Anyways, just thought i would share. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y88BYr4Ie9A
P.S. We havent waited in a single server Que... We decided to start fresh and let our old PvP community go, and start anew. <shrug>
See everyone in game!

I am sorry but i have no sympathy here. Witch Elves ARE universal. That is why some of the best destro 8 mans run 1-2 WEs in their tank train. Because the DPS and utility is amazing, and with a healer, they ARE NOT squishy. |

New Player - Major Blance Problems will kill WAR
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 12/04/08 3:54:46 PM
Im sorry, but i have to agree with the others. You cant base your opinions off of a handful of experiences in t1. If you wanted to do the same, take our 3 man that we built for t1... Shadowwarrior, Archmage and Brightwizard... we were kite/extending and killing 2fg+ in the t1 ORvR... without the shadowwarrior, this would have been impossible (AE root/snare shots). You will find that ANY t1 tank can dish out dmg and take alot of hits , and the blackorc has a proc that will heal himself (technically wounds increase, but essentially it is a heal). As to running backwards, YOU CAN STRAFE AND STILL SHOOT AT TARGETS BEHIND YOU! I am assuming you just havent figured this out yet (still t1), but there is no excuse for you getting caught by a melee class. You know after reading this post i feel bad for mythic. There are HORDES of these types of players that come, play til maybe lvl 30 tops, then write this kind of feedback, whine on the boards, etc etc without ever really knowing what they are takling about. Mythic you have my pity... |

"Worth Playing?"
YES! WAR is excellent. I have been playing MMOs for the past 6 -8 years, and this game still has me hooked. I would suggest avoiding the whiners, and dont try to grind yourself to 40 or you will go mad in the process :D |

lol, i can tell the original Poster is a WoW player. Not adding additional levels? wow.
Take a look at Dark Age of Camelot. The level cap has always been 50. Yet they have added enough content to keep people addicted for 6 years. Added content does not need to come in the form of additional levels (which is in my opinion the absolute worst. seriously, i get so angry just thinking about it). Examples of "extra levels" in DAoC were Realm Abilities, Master Levels, Champion Levels, etc. Things that enhanced your character and caused you to strive for something, yet did not force you to continue to level beyond 50. It added various layers to the game, and made things alot of fun. Having been someone who was rr11, i was always still "striving" towards rr12. Now ifyou look at how many realm points it took for realm rank 11, i could have gotten 11 other characters to rr6 if i wanted to. or 22 characters to realm rank 5. I think your views of "end game content" are simply skewed because of WoW. I suppose mine are as well. Personally, i heavily favor the DAoC approach. added abilities (NOT FREAKING RvR gear) for realm points (renown points), and then added epic loot that gives simply various forms of utility, rather than making the old gear obsolete.

1) No, you can put your weapon on your back... whether a caster, or a fighter class, staves, swords, shields, etc can be placed on your back when out of combat 2) Im not sure what you are getting at. The combat system is a time-delay system. not your "revolutionary" system, however, every class has some interesting aspect to it. ex. My archmage's healing abilities increase the more damage spells i do, and vice versa. Thus i open fights by doing my insta damage attacks, so that i have a big heal that i can cast instantly, that normally was 3 seconds to cast. 3) As of right now, the death penalty is minimal. In RvR scenarios, there is no penalty... simply release and get back out to the fight! In the world, you lose constitution (hp points) that you can then buy back from a healer (super cheap... im talking, non-factor cheap). Its not about punishing your players , they want us to get into the fights and not be afraid to get where the action is! 4) Oi ! Youz git smash dem Stuntiez! Yea, the "lore" behind Warhammer is pretty nice, and with the Tome of Knowledge, you have the opportunity to really get into it. (the Tome is chuck full of lore about lands, races, places, events, etc). As to sounding like an idiot, you dont have to worry about it. I mean, what posistion is a roleplayer in to make fun of someone else for sounding stupid...
But yes, as a last little note... I LOVE this game. I played DAoC for 6 years, and this game is amazing to me. I love the various aspects that have been put into it, and i think it will only get better. (Yes, i like the WoW style graphics... Yes, i like the WoW style movements... Yes i like the WoW style questing... Yes, i like the WoW style UI... Yes, i like the RvR aspect... Yes, you should play about lvl 10 before making assumptions about the game you dirty dirty trolls!) |
