The EQN team stated that they still have all the work they did with Storybricks. They  have the tech and systems still in place. When they teamed up with them, they payed for the use of that system, so they are still using it. All is not lost.

From what this is saying, it sounds more like the people who created Storybricks didn't depart from SOE/Daybreak, but that they simply gave up on the project and moved onto something else.

You've been watching it develop in EQLandmark. They just added combat last month, they are doing a lot of work, trying to get things stable, so that when they port over everything it'll be nearly finished.

My guess is you'll see EQNext Alpha starting at the end of 2015.

I love how people keep saying EQN is making promises and not showing anything of it.. You clearly don't understand what's going on. EQLandmark is EQN pre-Alpha. Everything they are designing in EQLandmark leads to EQN development.

Combat, the world, dungeons. It's all being designed right now. Players are making the world for EQN right now alongside the SOE EQN team.

So when does the game officially release? All I can find is people talking about EA.

There is no official release date. But they are planning/aiming for November of this year.

If that's how you feel you are free to experience PvE servers.

If you want to PvP than that's exactly where the fun comes from

OK the people that keep saying they are playing for the pve... Come on, that's just laughable, the pve is like shooting fish in a bucket, OK so every once in a while you have to outrun a bear, the zombies are irrelevant, I wish they would crank up that zombie difficulty to brutal mode already, I want to watch people get slaughtered on twitch.

You don't seem to like any aspect of it so why do you even bother?

p.s. all the pve servers are full

You have to keep the reality in check or people will spam how great the game is and millions of naive gamer's will randomly WASTE their money and regret every minute of it.In other words we or I don't like false advertising, this game is atrocious and not worth the 30 bucks or well unless your lucky like that one guy who spent 30 but did not spend a single cent ,,,magical actually.

You can try and prove me wrong but this game does not deserve any credibility, worst game i have seen in a VERY long time.Steam actually pulled for awhile what was it Warz for misleading customers on what the game actually offers.I would hardly say this is a survival game if you can just cash shop to your heart's desire,so this game is every bit as misleading as well.

Problem is spamming Steam with complaints is likely too late, the first few days is when all the money is made,i just hope thousands get their refunds they will wish they did in a month from now.

I could be wrong though, running non stop through fields with your hand on the E key collecting sticks and berries is pretty darn realistic and amazing FUN.../sigh.So much for the rarity and survival needed if you can non stop collect every few seconds,i wish life was that easy.

I have only one conclusion, this hysteria over such bad gaming has to be the culprit of too much television,The Walking Dead series and the Gingerbread man.

1) The game is EA (That's Early Access fyi) Fyi is for your Information fyi)). This means, that is isn't finished. That it has bugs. That there are many problems still to be fixed. That you might not have fun testing the game. I say testing... Because when you buy an EA game, you are testing the game.

2) The game is $20 or $40 in price. It is not $30. There are no options for that price value.

3) Gathering for things like black berries and sticks is eventulally going to require a gathering time. Basically the same as the enteract time on cars and or other things you search.

4) As I said above, the game is in EA (see above if you forgot what EA was). They are putting out a road map on game fixes and changes in the next few weeks. In the 5 days that the game has been out, they have fixed bugs on a nearly daily basis. The game has done nothing but continued to improve. Feel free to see what kind of progress DayZ or any other zombie survival game has having.

5) You are clearly either one of three things. A Troll. A retard. Or a DayZ fan boy attempting to bash anything other than DayZ. So, feel free to not talk about, or bash something you do not understand and are unwilling to understand. This is no way to live your life. Learn or do not, the choice is yours. But keep in mind. Those who do not know are ignorant. Those who refuse to learn are stupid. Those who cannot learn are dumb. And those who continue on the same road expecting different results are insane. Which are you?

The zombies are already on hard mode. The problem isn't the zombies, it's the servers "frame rate" (from what Smedley was saying). The zombies aren't able to track us the way they are programmed. They are working out that issue now and zombies should (with todays patch I hope) become much, MUCH harder to deal with.

And to give an example of this. Watch the server populations, when a servers population drops to medium or low, zombies start to react to players much quicker, they start to track you and hit you. When it jumps to High or Very High, they stop reacting and just stand there and let you kill them.

By the way, The air drops aren't even close to pay to win.

There are airdrops that only have a single pistol in them and other crap like animal traps and wood logs. There are others that have building supplies and yet others that have weapons and ammo. You don't know what you're going.

On top of which, zombies pop out of the drop when it lands. On top of which, everyone on the server hears the drop, sees the drop and anyone within the area goes there to fight over it...

You are paying for and spawning an event in which anyone within range can fight over. You'll get more loot and gear fromt he dead people around the crate than you will from the crate.

Yes it sucks that you are paying for something you might not get, but some people are willing to do that. On top of which, you buy it with station cash, of which, if you have an all station access account you get some of everyone month anyways, and that gives you full access to all of their other games as well... So who cares?

If you don't want to spend the money, don't spend the money. If you think it's pay to win, try and take the air drop from the guys calling them in...

The end.

I've been playing since alpha, and this to me should be the number one priority in the game. Better tools. As it is now, if you're a new player, you're going to need to watch hours and hours of videos to create anything really nice that we that have been playing since alpha can create. For a building game the tools are pitiful, and off putting for new players.

I don't really agree. There is a learning curve, but that comes with most games.  I've been playing from day 1 alpha also. I had to learn all the tricks myself, didn't even watch any videos and had most of it down pretty early on.

Not that I'm bragging, it's just that the tools are kind of easy to use and you can freely play around with them to figure things out. Anyone with half a brain can make some really nice lookthing things without feeling the need to go watch hours of youtube "How Too" videos.

On top of which, the game has gotten a lot smoother, and the tools more refined. We had to do some crazy tricks back in alpha to get things done that new players never have to experience.

Mark my words:

EQNext Alpha will launch 4th quarter 2015 or1st quarter 2016. They should announce it at SOELive 2015.

Just 1 more year guys.... That's also the release window for the Oculus Rift I might add. 2015 Christmas is going to be amazing. :) 2018 will destroy them all though.

They call it release, then they call it early access then as you read into it it sounds more like paying for Alpha access - the way Sony try to spin things is just crazy.

How the game can't be as feature rich as Dayz is laughable seeing as Dayz is so terrible as it is and one of the more recent money grabs

Bad play by Sony imo, they are not a company that need the money yet seem to be joining the bandwagon of rich companies/people wanting players to pay them way before their product is anywhere near finished - this is one i certainly will not support financially for development

A) It was always early access for Alpha. Read some and you'll find that out. The game is said to fully release in or around Nov. of 2015

B) That statement I think is their way of trying to not piss off any DayZ fan boys. From everything I know about DayZ, H1Z1 has already passed it. True, you cannot force people to drink bleach or a lift of other things. But you have a working, hacker free stable world where zombies don't glitch past walls or into the ground. Beyond that, they've been working on the game for less than a year and have already made it better than DayZ which has been in production for over 2 years.

C) I kind of agree with this, but I also enjoy it. The problem here isn't what Sony or other EA games are doing. The problem is the players mentality going in. People jump in hoping for a well balanced finished product not understanding what EA is. By placing a price tag on it, people are less likely to just jump in and flame the game for being incomplete.

Yes, this causes problems for a lot of games. It can actually kill a game. But if the community is good, it can progress the game to new heights much faster than if it remained internal.

SWG-Fans finally have their new home (Smed).

I believe him /sarcasm off

Yeah, I still don't know what he was thinking when he said it last year =/

He admitted it was a dumb statement. He was talking about an open world where  you can build towns. Sadly, he didn't mean SWG2 =/

You're looking at it wrong. They aren't releasing it early in order to make money. They're doing so in order to give us, the community a chance to have a say in it's design. We're helping them test it.  In the past, companies would have to hire on people to test and find bugs for them, now we're paying them to do the same thing. The difference? We get to play the game early and help make it better. They get to save a lot of money.

And honestly. Let's say 5,000 people buy into EA for this game. That's what, 100,000? They might cover a few pay checks and a week or two for the game development. It's not like they are making bank or anything.

To each their own, but I happen to disagree. I think voxel based worlds are the future of all gaming.  They'll continue to grow and become more complex.

It's the progression towards a realistic gaming world.  Voxels will continue to decrease in size (look at EQ Landmark) until they are the size of a grain of sand or smaller. We'll be playing games in which not only look real, but feel real. Where everything can be broken and anything can be constructed with the right tools.

And the crazy part? We're only a few years out from this happening. Quantum Computers are nearly upon us. Look up HP's The Machine (which will be out by 2019-ish)

[mod edit] The largest sandbox game around is Minecraft.  It has the highest player base of any game ever.  People still buy the game and love it. On top of which, it's nearly as far removed from realistic as you can get (graphically).

EQNLandmark is (in time) going to remove minecraft from it's throne.  Assuming at some point the code is released and modding is allowed.  It has the potential to go far beyond anything else we've seen.  And it's free.

(and don't bring the SOE market place into it, if you knew anything about it, you wouldn't bring it up to begin with)

Only real reason I'm watching is because Smedley said that we would be starting Alpha testing second half of January.  I'm hoping they'll give a date on that, or at least some information.   The upcoming event on the 31st seems to state that we'll be playing before then as well.
I love how people say this is a great idea for gaming companies to pick up.  How it's the future plan for MMO's (being the sub for full game access).. But what company can really do this other than SOE?  99% of the MMO companies out there only have 1 game.  I could maybe see CCP doing this with EVE/Dust/Valkyrie/WoDO... And I guess Funcom with AoC and TSW, but that's pretty much it.

... WoW didn't do it better, that's the problem. Most of the games out haven't done it better.  Everquest when it first came out, before Luclin was a hard, challenging game that didn't baby people.  You want to take on a dragon? Fine by us, but if you die, be to lose everything as well as experience.

When WoW came out, they cloned everything from Everquest but the challenge. They copy/pasted spell and skill discriptions and effects.  There is a reason people dislike it.

While what they did is sad and pathetic as well as completely unorigionial, you cannot fault them for it.  They marketed well and pulled in the people because of how easy it was to get into and be good at.

But no games (with the possible exception of Star Citizen) are bringing a true challenge to the gamer.  They are affraid of peoples reactions to it. They are scared that people will quit or give their game a bad review if you can't get to to max level and be a bad ass in a days time.

You aren't very well informed I take it. They've stated they won't be doing any cross platforming which is good, being as the PS4 and Xbox One are both crap.

As for it releasing for Alpha? The January date is pushed back. They stated a 2013 release early on. It has nothing to do with any bad press.  EQ has always preformed well in both EQ and EQII.   They are the kings of the MMO genre.

You are correct about it not feeling like EQ though, being as it's not EQ and minecraft in the EQ universe in which there is little to no actual story.  This isn't EQNext of which very little is known as of yet, being as 90% of it will most likely change in some form or another before release.

Yeh we know it won't come out in 2013

BECAUSE IT'S BEING IN DEVELOPMENT FOR 4 YEARS

Mmos take longer to cook than that, especially when they scrap half the work and go in a radical new direction.

And of course it will be on the ps4. If they're porting planetside 2 to the ps4, themes no reason they can't, and they will want to as its their console, will be something not on the xbox and it will bring in more money.

Honestly you guys thinking it won't be on ps4 are living in a fantasy land yourselves.

I think its going to be coming out shortly after the Aug reveal. SoE has kept EQN in a blackbox so no one can copy their ideas. I personally think the blackbox is useless if we get huge reveals in Aug and the release date is in 2014. My guess is we are also getting a release date in Aug and pre-orders will start then or soon after.

You are correct on this and honestly I believe this is why Blizzard pushed back it's "Titan" release date and they are scrapping it.  They are going to wait to see what EQNext has in it so that they can try to copy and add it's features into it's new game.  And while you might take that as an anti-blizzard statement... it's not, it's the Truth. Blizzard does this with every single game they have.  They take other peoples ideas and try to find a way to top them by throwing more money at it.

Its not anti-Blizzard as everyone does it in MMOs. Blizzard has done a better job at it then anyone.

I completely 100% disagree.  EQ1 came out and provided a very challenging gaming experience for the D&D community. A lot of people really loved it, however, there were others who just couldn't deal with it and ended up after a few years of crying and trying to get the game made into easy mode. Every game gets them. People who bitch and moan over the harder aspects of a game.  WoW, after researching EQ and it's development over the years, brings out it's own game taking all the best qualities of EQ (and the few failures that came out between) and provided it's Starcraft crowd with a far easier version of the game.  There was little to no originality to WoW.  They used warcraft inspired everything and put a new skin over it's dumbed down EQ clone.

Even some of the spells and skills in WoW were copy paste exact from EQ, discription and effect, I mean, come on. While I understand some things are going to be universal when it comes to these games.  WoW doesn't even try to hide the fact that it steals and cannot come up with an original idea.  I bet you money that when WoW's next MMO comes out, it'll be another clone of EQNext. Right here, right now, I'll be you $1000. It will most likely have some aspects of Elder Scrolls Online and SWTOR in it as well.

EQ1 didn't steal from any other MMO. Verant when creating EQ took ideas from D&D and created a world and story of its own.  EQ2 Came out with a Panda race in it's world a few years ago, and then, low and behold, WoW jumps on the copy/paste train and gets them too... People are sick of it. There's a reason WoW has nearly no player base anywhere other than China/Asia where you only have to pay $1 a month to play.  Not to hit on the fact that most of those people have 3 or 4 accounts
