This just sort of hit me... the majority of negative reviews of an MMO are from disgruntled unsubcriber posts. When forums are all negative i think that probably has a lot of impact on prospective buyers, with no subscription model do you think the I quit posts will disapear or atleast be minimized? I mean... it would kind of be like making a "Im quitting TF2" thread, sort of silly when you think about it. |

How is Arena Net's Class Balance Track Record?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 2/24/12 5:06:48 PM
Thanks for all the replies, from the sound of things it seems like Arena Net handles balance similar to how DAOC devs used to pre-TOA, which is a relief in a way (although there were some imbalances, they werent gamebreaking or impossible to overcome) and as i recall there were a lot of things claimed to be OP (baseline stun for example) in one realm or another yet every realm found themselves capable of taking relics and stomping other realms. I can appreciate that GW1 and GW2 are going to be comeplete different games from the ground up as far as balance goes but i believe regardless of the medium or the type of balancing they practiced it still shows the type of developers they are that they would risk upsetting their "class majority" fans for the sake of balance. |

How is Arena Net's Class Balance Track Record?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 2/24/12 2:35:53 AM
This is absolutely the #1 killer of a game for me. I'm curious if any long term GW1 players can talk about Arena Net's handling of the nerf and buff bats? Do they Buff more than Nerf? Do they ignore a single classes imbalance based on population (like frost mages, bright wizards and sorcerers)? Do they wait a really long time to adress things, so much so that everyone has time to reroll and abuse it? Do they even bother with balance patches or do they wait for expansions? I'm mainly a PvPer and balance as driven me nuts ever since i quit DAOC back in 2004 and started MMO hopping. I always seem drawn into attempting to make the "weakest" class competitive and always fail because of some insurmountable mechanic in another classes favor or a fault in my classes design that is glaringly obvious and never gets adressed (until i've left the game or rerolled). So please, any insight to Arena Nets track record would be great!

I don't see how Bioware could make the case that their game is worth more.
ME2 .. I'd say the majority of fans would claim it to be worse than ME1. DA2, hands down worse than DA1 and a blatantly lazy attempt to make a quick buck. SWTOR... Its in the process of crashing and burning, as soon as competition releases in summer and fall it'll be "Dead" ala WAR Warhammer Wrath of Heroes ... beating a dead horse.
Wheres the evidence that Bioware can produce a quality game anymore? Especially to label it as deserving a higher price tag, i dont see it. Hell, I don't even see how they can charge $60 for PC games, they dont have to cover any liscensing costs and the majority of it being Digital Download they dont even have a distributor cost. EA is just being rediculous and greedy. |

I'm really failing to see what is so special about GW2.

However, GW2 has shown something that i do have knowledge and experience with and will drive me to continue playing it through the first days and thats the world PvP system. i know how great "RvR" can be from DAOC and how a community is shaped around it and its something i want to experience again, with a 21st century interface. |

A lot of GW2's new found hype train are disgruntled SWTOR players who were just hating on GW2 last year before SW's release... If you enjoyed Guild Wars or Dark Age of Camelot (and to an extent WAR), you will probably enjoy GW2. If you enjoy WoW's model of Raiding, Arenas and "fluff" (seamless world, dailies, casual gaming), you might feel out of place. |

Why don't people call games like Modern Warfare 3 "WoW killers" it's sold something like 7 million copies, which is better than any MMO has done in the past 6 years. Why do people hold onto this idea that eventually something will take all of WoW's players? WoW players want to play WoW, to have any chance of drawing WoW players to play a new game... it would have to just be a better version of WoW... Which is still WoW :/
In the end, who cares???? |

Getting ripped apart on Metacritic
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/21/11 9:44:38 AM
I was so hyped over swtor, i was talking all my friends into playing it, i had like 5 accounts signed up for their beta testing... and then the worst thing that could have happened, happened... i was accepted into beta. Create character (not happy about how i hate how everyone looks) ... first thing i do in the game pick up quest, kill 10 bad guys... Turned it off and never played it again. |

The competitor to WoW will be...*drum* *drum* *drum*....?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/10/11 3:38:21 PM
Guildwars 2 will attract Guildwars 1 fans and Weeaboo's
SWTOR will attract Bioware fans and Starwars Fans (a lot larger audience), Casuals and kids ("styalized"/low requirments), BIoware, LA, and EA have a lot more marketing power. Pretty easy to determin who will grab more players, Fansites like this just carry the vocal minorities. When EQ2 and WoW were competing, you would have thought WoW was going to die before it even released based on the negative hype from the pre-existing EQ fanbase, same situation. |

I know they have a server farm in Amsterdam that they use for French and German servers, but other than that as far as im aware if you want to speak English then all the servers are in the U.S. I believe Washington DC is where they have their international server farm.
But this is all based on past events from EQ2 and Vanguard, DCUO could be completely different. |
