Originally posted by Tonev Of course it makes sense. They either plain don't like the other ones, or they really really want to play WAR. I played Guild Wars, and TBH I didn't like it one bit. It lasted about a month and then I just gave up. The PvP wasn't as good as everyone hyped it up to be. And I grew to hate the entire instanced world and always feeling isolated form everyone. Plus, lvl 20 could literally be reached in a day if you knew what to do and where to go for every single quest. So while I could go play Guild Wars and have a similiar lvling system, I don't want to because I don't like Guild Wars. And I never played DAoC, so I also don't want to have to start a new character. Do you honestly think this is the only factor that drives people to play WAR? Sure it's a bonus for them but they obviously see other aspects that they enjoy. You know, things that Guild Wars DOESN'T have... It's not all about the PvP lvling. What about the end-game PvP? Or Keeps, forts and siege weapons in open-world? Battefield objectives? 40 or so scenario battlegrounds? You don't thing these have something to do with it as well? |

Originally posted by Kyleran Actually to be perfectly honest I don't see alot of flame posts from WAR fans on the WAR forums, only form the fans of other games who seem to come here to flame other people for saying something posotive... but that's just what I see. Anyways the combat may look a little slow in some of the videos but there are numerous explanations. Firstly, the people playing the game are inexperienced with how the mechanics work, so you can't expect the people playing to be amazing. If you watch some beta videos of people actually playing in beta with their own char (not sure if the footage I saw was leaked or not) you'll notice that it is much quicker. Secondly, it's still in deveopment, so obviously the final product will be better quality. Also, they have limited abilities to use in many of the videos due to the fact that the characters are pre-made. I'm sure when we watch videos a month before release they'll look much more polished and 'faster' if that's the right word to use. I wouldnt stress over this issue much, it's something that can easily be turned around.
Now why do I have a feeling that I'm gonna get flamed for what I said in the first paragraph... |

I dunno why but I just have a gut feeling that they're gonna push it back once more, so Q3 is my guess. If they do, no problem, just means a better game. Although I desperately do wish that they can make a solid product by Q2, we'll just have to wait and see. |

There are many ways to look at this. Warhammer will most likely win in subs over AoC (which one is better is all a matter of opinion). AoC would win in innovation and trying to make something new (we'll see if this was the right thing to do soon enough). But above all else, WoW will still be number 1. Not in my eyes... hell no. But in terms of subs it will. If either WAR or AoC ever gets more subs then WoW, it won't be for a while, after WoW dies out on its own. But yea to answer your original question I'd say WAR. Although I voted WoW will still be number 1 because let's face it, it will.. |

I see alot of people saying that the next 'new gen' MMO won't come for a few more years which kind of confuses me. I've only been into MMO's for about 3-4 years now, and I'm guessing those of you who say that have probably played for 6 or 7+ years, so obviously you're very familiar with what different MMO's have to offer. But my question is what do you mean when you say 'next gen' MMO? If you're someone who has played for 10+ years, you have basically seen the jyst of it. Maybe I'm just not visualizing enough but I can't see a game ever releasing from now on that is not like anything we have ever seen. Seriously, unless MMO's become virtual reality where you put a helmet on your head and control every action of your character while seeing through his eyes, what (other then the minor differences like questing or lvling) can an MMO do to make it completely unique in every way? What you have to understand is that everyday there are new faces joining the MMO scene, and to them all of this is new. WoW is new, Everquest is new... everything is new to them. So therefore people will always keep playing those games. And if companies see that people keep playing these games, they will continue to make them. Sure, they may not appeal to the average MMO veteran who would rather watch paint dry then play another lvl-based game, but who cares as long as you're making money off those newbies? I think that the only way for this so called REAL 'next gen' MMO to come out has to be from a company who has seen it all and is determined to develop a masterpiece that will blow away the minds of the veterans. But then, at the same time, this would be taking a risk, which many complanies may not want to do. The solution? Make another typical MMO with some differences. So anyways, what do you guys mean when you say the 'next gen' MMO? Like I said earlier, maybe I'm just not visualizing enough.

In many people eye's it will be #1, in other's it won't. It's all a matter of opinion. WoW is the so called 'number 1' MMO out there right now. Does that mean I think it is? No... So we'll just have to wait and see how things turn out I guess P.S. LMAO blizzard rep... That gave me a good laugh. Why didn't I think of that lol |

This is something that has come across my mind quite a few times now. I would like to roll Destruction for my first character, however seeing that Order will probably be the underdogs (though I could be wrong cuz some polls say otherwise), my friends and I are thinking that maybe we'll play Order. If there so happens to be an imbalance in factions, it'll only be for the first little while and then people will start rolling new characters all over the place and things will most likely turn out okay. As far as kids and griefers... you can't avoid them, they're everywhere. I wouldn't count on one race having less. It's just a natural part of any game, unfortunately. |

If the devs were stil starting from scratch on some things then I'd be a bit worried but I highly doubt this is the case. The only really major thing that is left to do is probably polishing, which is done more towards the end and then finished off in patches soon after release. Can't expect a newly realeased game to be 100% bug-free...

I agree. I would make a statement on this but I just did over at the other thread talking about this same issue. It's true though, alot of people seem to be very ignorant when it comes to hearing new ideas that they know nothing about yet. Btw, sadly you probably are talking to a bunch of 8th graders who's first MMO was WoW. |

Yea, I enjoyed watching that podcast. It brought a big smile to my face. Also I noticed alot of people assuming that these ideas were just thought of right now. I don't see how you can make that assumption unless you heard somewhere that they were. The devs could have had this feature in their books for quite some time now but didn't end up implementing them yet. Plus, these guys are famous for what they did in DAoC from what I hear, so obviously they know how to do it right, which means it won't take as much time as a company who is new to the whole thing. They even told us that we can expect the same concept as DAoC except better, which also hints the fact that they already know what to do. Anyways, great news! |
