The days of naked mages has ended.  Even as a Dexer Im disapointed to hear that.    Scrolls can be had a few ways.  Either buy them off a vendor for a very large sum (20 scrolls)  or try to do a spawn.  Its very hard to do a spawn though because there aren't to many blues that are willing to get together in a large group to defend the spawn, and also finish it.  Most of the time you'll have a bunch of reds that like to come in and take over when your almost done.

Its going to be a different game when you log in.  Not much will change with your mage though.  Only thing you'll have to do really is pick up some armor.  Yes, mage armor .    Log back in for a month and see how you like it. If worse comes to worse you've only spent $13 for a month of game access.

I'd rather hope and imagine a game like DF will be released then actually play the crap games that are out now, or the soon to be games.

As for AOC, they can certainly put a dent into DF but that all depends on how they integrated the PVP system

No.  The only thing it depends on is if AoC and War launch.  Which they will.   They are in a completely different league in regards to development of a mmorpg title. The only hope DF has is if both cancel.. which isn't going to happen.

The sooner people get this through their thick skulls.. the better off they'll be.

Well since your an economics major, and MMOR specialist, and with all your experience you have behind you.  Im going to agree.  Everyone, Dont even lookin in this forum anymore.  Since AOC and War are going to launch, this game wont matter.  Please leave this forum and soon as possible so we can close it.

I know, I know, Im feeding the troll.  But its wierd how he knows that noone will play DF once AOC and War comes out.  I for one wont be playing those games.....WAIT A MINUTE!!!  If im not going to play those 2 games, then thats got to mean somone else wont either cause I can't be the only person thinking that!!  Which means people are actually going to wait for DF?!  Which means.......... People will play DF!!!! Holly crap!!!   This can't be real though, my thoughts have to be flawed becuase SLI2000 said so.

Are you sure you played UO when it first came out?  Because they didn't have houses when it first started.  Housing wasn't availiable until after Ren.

Wrong.  I played from day one for many, many years.  I remember seeing my first player build house a couple of weeks after day 1.  It was one of those small square stone houses and it was placed just outside of the wall of Cove.  I remember seeing about 6 or 7 players mining and going in and out of the house.  I could not wait to get mine.  Back then you could place houses within guard zones also.

Remember the tents?  You could also place a tent that was the same size as the small house.  It had nothing in it but one chest to store items.  Anybody could enter but the owner had a key for the chest.  I remember those tents popping up everywhere even on roads.  Once the road from Britain through the mountain pass was blocked off by 3 tents covering the entrance.  Shortly after that they stopped placement on roads.  Not long after that they removed the tent option.

I remember the land shortage well.  When the first expansion came out (t2a) people really wanted to place houses there.  Luckily they kept it non-housing so you could adventure without having to navigate one large city.

You got me there.  I forgote about those tents.  Its been to long. You are correct.

Then it went carebear and they are trying to make it an item driven game, 100% no reg cost armor and you can't lose it when you die? Weak.

I tried to come back and it is just not good...

Could you name some MMO's where you lose armor/ect when you die?

*edit

Could you also name some MMO's that use some sort of "reg" to cast spells?

Not being sarcastic.

Um are you new to UO or something....don't you know what use to make UO so great?  The hardcore vibe, sandbox, PvP, ect.  What are you talking about name some games where you can lose armor?  UO was suppose to be that game and it was for a long time before a bunch of random people took over and tried to salvage subscriptions due to the changing of MMOs.

What do you mean "am I new to UO"??

Of course I'm not new to UO. I've played since release.

"Don't you know what use to make UO so great?"

Kind of a stupid question isn't it?? Everyone knows why UO was the best MMO back in its day!

"What are you talking about name some games where you can lose armor?"

Do you have a problem with me asking a legitimate question? I happen to be curious if any another MMO's use a similar old-school UO ruleset. If you don't have an answer to my question then don't comment on it.

No one tried to "salvage" subscriptions. Or atleast thats not what "ruined" the game. EA released expansions to make a quick buck.

You know what they say about people that ASSuME.

From now on, keep your "ignorant" comments to yourself.

Wooo wooo, calm down their big Irish.  Did someone forget to drink his beer this morning?!  Dont take offence to what he wrote.   I read  your post as if  you were saying no other game loses armor and uses regs so why should uo.  I think thats why stellos wrote it that way.

The old Vets are always protective of what UO was, and we dont want people to get the image that the UO we played back then is how it is now.

Thanks for clarifying my statements to this troll.  Yes, he is right by stating I read your post to mean "no other game loses armor and uses regs so why should uo."  I played since beta so don't "ASSuME" that I do not grasp what UO was.  I played approximatly 4 years after release and I fully understand what happened to UO in terms of MMO evolution.

You should be more reluctant to post here if you get that defensive and angered over comments, as when you post you will be replied to by people who disagree with you.  I understand now that you meant the post to mean something else and I misinterpreted your post, however that could easily be cleared up by a simple "you misread my post or didn't understand it" oppose to some childish rant.

Now go to bed.

Just like you misread his post, he must of misread yours.  I see no need for pointing fingers.  Now go to your rooM!!

I played UO when it first came out for about a year and a half. One of the problems the game had AT THAT TIME...was land for house placement was not available on some shards.I am thinking about returning to ATLANTIC. Is there a way to know that there is decent land for houses available before  actually going there and making a character etc etc ?

I played when UO first came out and I don't remember a land shortage at all. The real land shortage hit when 9/11/01 happened and they stopped houses from rotting for like 2 years straight. Last time I logged on about a year ago during a free play I put a house right outside of moonglow on pacific. I figure land has to be as common as it was then if not even more common now as people move to the new expansion lands.

Are you sure you played UO when it first came out?  Because they didn't have houses when it first started.  Housing wasn't availiable until after Ren.  If you dont remember a house shortage then you must not be playing the same game because even with housing decaying, there were still land shortages.

Also, the reason why there is so much land to place houses is 1) they expanded the land and 2) a lot of people have been cancling accounts.

I can't,  Thats what made UO so freaking Great!  It wasn't like this other crap that most companies are throwing out the past few years.  Just like many posts in the general forum says  "same game, different skins"    Its boring.

I guess the companies are catering to the up and coming Generation.  You know, the ones that say that the sesame street we grew up with as kids is to much for the "newer Generation"  lol

Yes, there are jap shards and i believe they are even more populated then ours.  You may have a high ping but those shards are much more fun then the US!

I for one loved the fact that there wasn't enough land for everyone to have a house.  It made  something to look forward to having one day.  But!!!  Of course just like UO's History.  It always ruins a good thing.  Soooo To  answer you question,  Yes, they have tons of land for houses everywhere!!!!!!

I find the 2d client much easier to play then the KR when it comes to that.  Maybe its just cause Im so use to it though.

Its an insulting term and does nothing to make people feel welcome in the community.

All game players are "carebears", if we weren't we'd be out taking risks in the real world with our body and finances

As much as I like pvp, I do agree with this post too.  If you scare off everyone who isn't like "us" (Hard core pvp)  we''ll be left with few.  We need a mixture of both parties to make the game exciting.  Otherwise We'll have a routine which will become stale and boring after a while.

Since they have stated that the game won't be "Gear Driven" in any way losing your gear may not be as bad as a lot of people think.

So than what the hell is the point of crafting??

The more I find out about this game the more it sounds like its going to be a complete failure if it ever does launch....

So now gear will mean nothing and be easy to come by? Wow that sounds really fun. You'll be running around with the same lame ass gear as everyone else has.

Most people love the idea of getting unique gear that seperates you from other people..

This game sounds more and more like a big generic pointless frag fest.

What rock did you just crawl out from?  The system will be just like uo's old system.  Not item based like most MMO's today.  Sooooooo that means that  crafting will be essential since you wont be going into dungeans looking for high end weapons.

I can tell your part of the "new" MMOers.  Most old schoolers HATE!! getting unique gear to seperate each other.  We would use our skills and abilities to differentiate ourself from one another rathe then have a nice little neon colored head band.

What a joke

Atleast they are taking small steps into the right direction.  They should have never introduced those bags of sending.

Maybe they'll make arties so plentyfull with the new updates that they can switch the system back to vanq, power, and so on.  That would be nice!

When you read various forums you get a sense that  players want MORE PVP. Let me state up front, I didn't play UO until Trammel opened up.

Let me make a couple of observations. When I played UO I used to make and sell rune books for Trammel and Felucca, so I visited both areas frequently. Feluccca was almost empty; whereas you couldn't get space at the forge near Brit bank on Trammel. (Pacific)

I just started player Dungeon Runners. They have several servers--only one is PVP. Further, they show the number of players on each server. The PVP server never reaches 5% of the total. Indeed, yesterday there were nearly 500 on the regular servers and only 2 on the PVP server.

So, I suspect that PVPers are more vocal giving the false impression that PVP is more popular that it actually is.

What do you think?

Its not the PvP that everyone is crying about.  Its the patches they put into the game that made it boring.  People play in tram and other non "pvp" shards cause its easier.  Most people will chose the easy way out.  I for one like the pvp aspect because it made everything more challenging rather then having everything handed to me.
