Open beta is a strange concept. I think that originally it was intended for final stress testing, but frankly it's easy to overload a server without any help from beta testers.
So, what is it now? It's a preview play - "Hey, come get a sneak peek at our game for free!" If it's really polished and fun (as it should be at this point), then it will build hype for the game and increase sales at launch. Frankly, they should change what they call it from "open beta" to "pre-play."
Most players want in just to help themselves decide what they want to play before the game starts, so they don't have to re-roll after launch and get behind. |

I still don't understand why people even ask questions like "Will this be the "WoW-killer?" Historically, whenever an MMO has done well to start (meaning a decently large, stable population), it has never just "died." Before WoW, the greatest success was met by EverQuest, and no game ever just came along and destroyed it. Everquest just slowly aged and declined over time, the populations dwindled over time, and it was just due to its advanced age and getting slowly chipped away at by lots of other games.
The same is true of WoW. Nobody is going to come along and put a stake in its heart and chop off its head, its just gonna fade into obsolescance.
As for competing, any company that stays afloat, and supports a decently large and stable population can compete - and it has less to do with the amount of money you dump in and a LOT more to do with the net profit you get back out of it. If I spend 500 million dollars on a game, then I need to MAKE 500 million dollars just to break EVEN. And if I'm profiting, then I'm competing. |

Personally, I love care bears. Especially Birthday Bear. Who doesn't like birthdays? Or Good Luck bear, cause who wouldn't love a green bear with a shamrock on his belly? And that care bear "stare" of theirs... Imposing love and happiness on their enemies by sheer force. Quite ubar. |

What if you restricted it just to /say within range of an enemy player? That would allow for the fun smacktalk and minimize spying I think. Besides, if people want to betray information to the enemy, they can just do it outside the game, like on forums... |

Stare at the mmorpg.com forums, refreshing the page every 20 seconds in the vain hope that someone will post something earthshattering and awesome... Or perhaps mildly interesting... Ok, ok, at least something relevant... nevermind. Go about our miserable lives, wallowing in the depression and despair that only mmorpg withdrawl can provide. Exercise... Heh, heheh, woohoohahahaHAHAHALOLOMGHAHAHAAHAH... heh, whew... |

I didn't get to play one very long myself, only preview weekend and only to level 7, but I thought I did alright...
I mean, as soon as I stopped running that is... If a melee'r ever came at me and I tried to run, someone would always take me out, I never ever got away... But when I started standing my ground and casting instant spells, people tended to tuck tail and run from me, heh. |

Really? They're getting an overhaul? This is the first I've heard about it... should be interesting.
Edit: BTW, what do you feel they need to do? Give them more burst damage? More AE? As far as I can tell the only thing the sorcerer has going for it is more AE... |

Hey all, I was wondering how many of you had a chance to play the Magus during CB or the preview weekend - specificially those of you that had a positive experience with the class. What is it you like about it? What awesome things were you capable of doing? Did you kick butt in RvR? Just wondering why it seems like so few players are considering this class (cause I think it has a lot of potential). Anyway, thanks in advance. |

Yea, I suppose. I still wonder why on recent polls Magus seems to be really low on the list in terms of people planning to play them. But I guess I'll have a better shot at Magus only loot, lol. |

Ok, I think I managed to see a Magus 3 times in that video, and 2 of the times he was dead... Maybe I should rethink my class choice, lol. |

Personally as a rule I hope for the success of every MMO in development, whether or not there seems to be much hope, heh. The more successful games = the more players benefit. From the QA description here on mmorpg.com, Darkfall seems a lot more like Ultima Online than Shadowbane. In fact, every single feature and mechanic listed (with the exception of 1st person perspective) is exactly what UO had. I don't think that any other game with all the features of UO has come out since then. And I was definitely disappointed when Origin got swallowed up by EA and UO2 got scrapped. Anyway, I say best of luck to the Darkfall team. I'll play whatever comes out, whenever it does. |

Go here: http://www.wardb.com/ Take a look at the different class abilities and compare them to each other
I believe this info was parsed directly from the game, and it's quite comprehensive. |

People always bitch when they realize that they'll have to do some work to get what they want. This phenomenon is not restricted to MMO's. |

That's odd, after playing a number of classes - Black Orc, Marauder, Sorcerer, Witch Elf, I played a Magus and totally rocked the house with him. I'm sure each of these classes come into their own at different points in time, but I wasn't willing to wait, and my Magus kicked RvR butt from the very start. I was consistently ranking at the top in terms of over all damage and number of kills and realm rank points earned. You can't really know unless you try a class yourself. |

Yeah.... Besides that, DAoC's interface isn't too different, and there were interfaces for other MMOs similar to that before WoW was released.... So even if it *were* that... (and I realize it was sarcasm :)) it wouldn't make much sense. I dunno.. the more I read it, that post (the one I questioned) seems like a stealth "it's a WoW clone" attempt. Way too many mentions of that game, and the bit, especially, that I pointed out makes no sense.
I was referring to PVP. Order vs. Destruction? Hoarde vs. Alliance? Call it Realm vs. Realm or Player vs. Player or whatever else you like, it's the same thing in a different package. |
