With Crafting so good, is there a market to sell items or is everyone a crafter?

Pvp patch comes out when theres hardly anyone left to PvP , its mind boggling.

Maybe you missed the part about the 3 new PvP regions been added to the map?

maybe you missed the part of "to little, to late".....

why do you defend a game that isnt worth defending??? there are other games that are worthy of your time.... AoC isnt. Clearly you have a talent for communicating in an articulate manner (even if I think you are wrong on every issue with AoC), invest your time into a game that actually deserves your investment

You missing the point Page, and Mscouts77.

These forums are here for poeple who enjoy the game too, to talk about upcoming features and content and to discuss the game itself in its present state and anything else relating. Its not about defending or an investment in anything, if you can move past that thought process (which is defensive of your stance in nature) and see its just new info i'm relating to those interested. What people make of it is up to them to talk about. For some its too little to late, for others it could be tempting to revisit the game and for those that still play its forthcoming news.

What matters at the end of the day, no matter ones feeling on the subject we should all be able to talk to one another as fellow gamers and appreciate each others views on certain subjects. (whether agree or disagree - and that for the whole is why im still here)

When I log in the game speaks for itself, it appeals to me, its come quite far from the inital release and things are coming together a lot better these days. Moving forward I can see the above elements come implementation appealing to me more so and this is something I am interested in as a concurrent, active subscriber.

At the end of the day it most definately to late for some, and you know i can relate to that as I was there too (but maybe it didn't effect me in ways of others) nevertheless it's coming and goes someway to improving the game for those that enjoy it, of which these forums here are also a place to share in that regard.

I'm greatful to see a positive post for once. So much negativity on these boards.

I was also glad to see the testlive patch notes. I had to cancel my sub and am waiting until the tradeskill revamp to come back. hope it doesnt take them too long.

Will people that buy EU versions of AoC be able to play on US servers (or vise versa)?

The reason a game costs into the millions is because of the salaries of certain people who think they are worth it. Money does not make a polygon, the human hand on a mouse make a polygon.

Game modders have been making free Half life content for over 10 years now, and if you can find free software like xna Mod Tool, and throw in the Multiverse engine and find a copy of Milkshape 3D you will be able to create the world, programming the world is a different story and that where companies dump a ton of money on.

I myself personally have the ability to be a world designer, but as programmer, I couldn't tell you why x=y lol .

Finding 20 people willing (and capable financially) to work for 3-5 years for little pay is tough. Add to that the cost of overhead, servers and test equipment, you start racking up the costs. I saw someone try to figure the minimum cost for a AAA MMO in the US. Their result was about $10M. You might get 2 or 3 people to invest their time instead of money, but you can't make a decent MMO with just 3 people.

Perhaps this list will make it more clear:

Middle Earth Online (MEO)

Mythica

Marvel Universe Online

Star Trek Online

Wish

MEO may have been something people would have played... but until it's released by a company it's just vaporware.

Also, Tolkien Enterprises not only approved of Turbine's LotRo but just recently extended the license to 2014; with an option to extend to 2017.  So, there might still be a chance for MEO to come out... in like 2020 or so.

Who knows perhaps by then we might be tired of LoTRo.

Uhh no offense... well, ok, with offense, are you retarded? MEO IS LotRO. They're the same game with some mechanics tweaked around. The same engine, the same graphics, the same developers. If thats too hard to understand, think of it as that LotRO was the NGE of MEO, except it hadn't been released yet.

Heh... from someone who played pre-CU SWG... It was not the same game that is available now.  Just like LoTRo and MEO are not the same game.  If it's the "same" game... then what is this whole discussion about?

I watched the early developing of MEO when it was supposed to come out in quite some years ago.  Trouble is... you can't play a game that never releases... just ask those Darkfall fans.

Edit: Oh forgot to mention.  I haven't rode on the short bus for quite some time now.  Thanks.

Turbine received the license from Vivendi. Vivendi owns Sierra, who (according to previous posters) was developing MEO.

Back to the OPs question, Turbine has stated that they have no plans to allow people to play "evil" classes/races outside session play. Players of Lotro battle Sauron, don't join him. I'm not sure Tolkien Enterprises would allow them to even if they wanted to.

If you enjoy PVE and don't like real PVP then perhaps you shouldn't be following or criticizing darkfall and should instead play a game that is friendly towards PVE people or 'carebears'.

After all you can't expect them to open a FFA server because you want one, just find another game if you don't like it - sorry.

FFA is the only Real PVP?

While I think this is a cool idea, do companies ever really buy this stuff? There are 2...maybe 3 AAA MMOs released each year. Probably hundreds or thousands of ideas pitched each year.

There's a reason that the trade-items from Fror can be actually traded between players. And there's a reason that you can complete the rift with 12 people in full level 45 quest armor with a medium amount of tactics.

Granted, the rift takes 3-6 hours to run through completely, BUT, you can reach one boss in 45 minutes and keep going for easy, predictable drops in intervals of around 60 minutes. Plus, you can get rift equivalent or near-equivalent gear from crafting or PvP. This is meant to be a challenging experience for some long evenings, but it's far from the horrid trips you have to take to complete the raid and lolzors-uber-gear-runs in other games.

Meridion

I agree the Rift and PVP armors aren't better than the crafted. But achieving isn't always about loot. Getting the titles for beating Thrang and Thaurlach can be a goal of their own. The PvP gear drops may be tradable, but Rank isn't. It is a substantial GRIND to rank 6, 7 or 8 depending on which pieces you want. Before book 12, I don't think my server had anyone Rank 8 after a full year.

It is a pity that FFXI's graphics do look a bit lame now, but still the gameplay is good enough and I'm happy that I'm paying this games monthly fee once more. I'm also paying monthly to Vanguard, but not really playing because it feels too much like a solo game compared to FFXI.

If all you're doing in vanguard is soloing, you're missing a lot.  The group content is the funnest stuff, IMO.  To be fair, group content doesnt exactly come out and smack you in the face; i guess that's part of the adventure or whatever.  My advice is to ask in chat what a good place to group at your level is.  People are generally very helpful.

I think what he is saying is that in FFXI you are forced to group or you just cant advance in game so you are always in a group in FFXI where as Vanguard this is not the case I have only just re-subbed to Vanguard last night after updating my Pc and have not played again yet lol as i had to wait 9 hours for it to update, i did try it this morning before i went to work and i had it on Ultr high settings and was running areound at 40fps no stutter or anything which imo is bloody good comapred to what i used to get anyways i guess i will give it a good workout tonight.

This is why I quit Vanguard. I could of put up with the hitching (i didnt have crashing problems or dieing).  They changed it right after launch with Missives to give people easy solo experience and item rewards. They also chopped the experience needed to level.

Experience loss with possible level loss is more than just a time sink. If people are dumb enough to keep trying the same event, the same way that they end up loosing a level and leaving the game, I don't mind. A significant DP (not gold, you can buy that) helps promote group interaction. It also helps promote grouping in general as it is less risky.

Leave! For god's sake. Turbine spends an endless amount of time in implementing roleplay and socialising features. Why do you think is that? - RIGHT, it's because this is not an achiever's game. It never was and hopefully, it never will be. Sure, let them add new content, but keep it a nice, balanced experience. Like the rift, challenging, but with the possibility to master even for the worst-equipped casual player.

You PvP and achiever guys have dozens of games out there that require dedication and planning; where you can raid for the next best item nobody else has and have your 5 minutes of fame at meeting place XYZ. Don't try to force LotRO into this...

Meridion

I like this post .

The Rift isn't Achiever based? Delving Fror isn't PVP based?

I wish I could afford to buy more games. Most of them arent worth $20-30 though, let alone $50. Also, games rarely decrease in cost after the initial release. You can go to game stop or best buy and see a 2 year old game and it's still $50.

The e8400 will be cheaper and use less power with better preformance once it is finally in stock. If you can wait a few weeks or a month you should do so.

If you are capable, buying individual components is usually cheaper than buying a whole PC. Especially one from a lesser known brand with unknown tech support and warranty. Also, do you have any pieces from your old PC you could reuse (the case?). This can save you a good bit of money also. Buying from a reputable company like newegg gives you as good or better warranty as buying a complete PC. Only difference is you lose some of the tech support (which is often hit or miss anyway.)

This game is being designed around FFA PvP but there still needs to be a good PvE system to support the PvP system.  That is what your not understanding.  A non FFA server will not work with Darkfall because half the game is PvP/Clan PvP/City PvP which you would not be able to do on a Non PvP server which would ruin the economy which would prompted many PvE players to bitch and whine which could change the game which would be bad for the PvP crowd.

Its really really simple, if you dont want to play on a FFA PvP server then dont play Darkfall.  I dont understand how we can make it any easier for you.

Why does non FFA have to mean Non PVP? couldnt it be clan/faction/realm based?

There's really not much out there as far as complex crafting goes. I guess the crafting in WoW is improving, but it's more like "they have more things to make than before" than "they have things that matter in the rest of the game" (even though engineering was always fun). Lord of the Rings Online has similar crafting as WoW though more reliant on stuff crafted by others. Actually I think most fantasy MMO's have craft systems like that. I'd stay far away from EQ2's crafting (I was trying out the free trial and spent over a half hour failing to make something below my skill level) or any similar systems. Making crafting a pain in the *ss does not mean it's complex. Aside from EVE most games I can think of treat crafting as practically an afterthought. It's the PvP and raid type encounters that the majority of MMOs focus on so I think you may be out of luck. I suppose if it's just a matter of boredom I don't know if there are similar things you could do in EVE or whatever game you're currently playing, but I always kept WoW interesting to me by making things difficult for myself (using only certain types of weapons or armor, or just trying different setups or doing things differently than what everyone says is best).

Personnally I like the idea of adding a level of "pain in the *ss" to crafting. It keeps non crafters from maxing everything like they do in wow.  This is also true of Vanguard.  Not being able to invest 100g and master the trade in 30 minutes is a good thing. EQ2 system at launch actually required you to pay attention and learn to do it. It has since been dumbed down.

Vanguards crafting is very nice compared to wow. The customizable options are extensive although people usually only want specific ones. I don't know if raid gear is better, but crafted gear pre-raid is usually the best you can get. Leveling crafting can be a little grindy though.

If your willing to join an older MMO, Horizons has one of the best crafting of any game I've played. The game has a very dedicated community, but not alot of new/low level people to need crafted items so the economy isn't so hot.

SWG has lots of potential, but with leveling crafting so easy, almost everyone has a max crafter. Making the best items is all about exploring and finding the best resources before other people monopolize all the gather points. Some servers are fairly lively, others deserted. I'm not sure where the shut down rumors started, but I don't think anyone has ever made any official information about that public. Last I saw SOE was still making patches, would they be doing that if shut down was imminent?

EQ1 had the most complex crafting system pre-pop. Requiring a myriad of ingrediants and without anything ingame to tell you what they were. Originally, if you got the recipe wrong it even ate them. I doubt we will ever see anything like this again.

I played from beta thru live for a few months. I only fell thru the world a couple times after launch. There were a few bad zone spots in beta, but you quickly learned to avoid them. I never really had major lag issues. NT still gave my computer fits this past christmas but that is 1 town in a very large world. I left because of Missives and the drive to easy leveling.

Rumor number 983...Oh did you hear about the Playboy  mmorpg ??

There's going to be a playboy MMO?  Woohoo.

I hope this is an actual leak and not some random BS.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see.  An old republic MMO would be cool.  At least that will take care of the biggest headache that SWG had to deal with: Jedi.

You mean by making sure that there will be even more of em? Every friggin kid, his bro, mom , father and dawg will have one.

I wouldnt say that is taking care of Jedi... When would Jedi EVER be on every streetcorner, waving their glowbats around like they were trying to peddle their wares like a hustler? Oh yeah, they be as mystery and special as a Toyota in a Toyota Race...

All it would do, is turn away everyone who'd rather be play something else than flippin jedi, wich sadly has been the "only" choice in Star Wars games for nearly the last 10 years....

How about a Ultima IV type system? Do something dumb and brag about your abilities...Humility -2 . Bye bye avatar :)

Go Huckabee!  Come on you know its funny when even a presidential canidate buys into it.

So you know where I am coming from then. This started as a joke in Barrens chat by kids and ended up becoming this. It is just amazing that something like this can happen in this day and age.

It started from Conan O'Brien. It just became rampant on WoW.

The more I read this post the less I want to play Darkfall, with or without looting.

As for whether this game will have and keep full looting... I've been looking for a PvE game that's group centric (don't try to say there are lots). Vanguard was going to be until they decided they wanted more sales. I expect the Devs for Darkfall will see the limited audience of their choice and offer more options then just a FFA full looting server. If you read the OP a little more closely, he didn't ask for a PvE server, It was the rabid PKers that read that into what he said. He asked for a non-FFA server. Maybe you consider RvR, Faction or level restricted PvP carebear too...
