Does the Death Knight spell doom for WoW?

Granted, you can't customize your character nearly as much as in DDO with feats and such, you can nearly with talents in wow. Because despite what they offer you in ddo, just like in every other D&D based game, there is always a best build no matter what. same goes for any game that has "builds"

Does the Death Knight spell doom for WoW?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 8/11/07 12:11:16 PM
The only people who hate wow are the people who are experiencing MMO BURNOUT. They think any other new mmo is going to give them the fix they need and they are wrong, they just want something to blame and wow is a great easy thing to blame.
Fact is, even if you don't like to admit it, wow offers you everything all the other mmo's offer in a better package. |

no offense, but anyone who plays an MMO for it's pvp aspect and bases it on skill is just a mentally challenged person.
no game that is based on level, class, race and armor/weapons will EVER, EVER be based on anything that resembles skill. MMO PVP are two words that don't belong together, sure it helps a games longevity, but if a game does not have a massive PvE system that far outweighs the pvp, it will fail.
the "wow killer" everyone is looking for is not right around the corner, it's not war and it's not conan. |

the answer to yous guys questions is Ultima Online. there are no factions, you are your own character and if you wanna kill someone and rob his shit because you are an evil fuck, then do it. no one is going to stop you but the guy you raped's friends. honestly, you wouldn't want to play in this kind of game, lol. I was a part of a huge player killer guild in the beta + early release stages of Ultima Online and I swear we made more people quit than any other factor in the game lol. in fact, people hate this type of game so much that Origin split britannia into 2 different realms each server, trammel and felluca...
unless you're asian, asians love the rape-style gameplay, which is why lineage 2 is so popular over in asia |

people pick on the person on top, in this case it's blizzard and their hit product wow. why? it's easy to pick on the person on top. it's common knowledge and has repeated itself throughout history, because humans are stupid and don't learn from mistakes.
people need to get over this "this game is too easy" mentality, because if you don't you are in for quite a surprise, because the following generation of games are only going to build upon that ease of playing, why? because the vast majority of players want it... hence the 9 million players.. or "bots" as you die hard haters want to call them.

you do realize there are billions of people on earth? chances are, the name was created by someone else before your spermling was even manufactured in a scrotum ;) LOL.
trust me, i feel your pain though, i've created alot of names off the top of my head, only to find them taken.. i mean who else names a wizard Nalaar? |

Problem with this game is every class is bland and boring...
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 7/19/07 7:17:17 PM
im what you might call an MMO lifer.. I started playing MMO's since ultima online and will play them until i lose my hands or die lol. I have played pretty much every mmo you can name, and probably some you have never even heard of. that being said.. vanguard is by far the most beautiful world I have seen in any mmo, at the same time that brings us to the current problem, even with the patches they have added recently the game still needs a super computer to run it. it's hard for most people to try to play a game like this when they come from games like WOW, or even LOTRO, because some of these newer generation of games like wow and lotro offer a very smooth gaming experience on a medium end system, flawless performance no matter the quality of product, the GAME ENGINE runs flawlessly on almost all systems.. hell ultima online can sometimes be more choppy than these games... so you have people coming from this to a game like vanguard and their computer is running like it's filled with cheese. it completely sucks the fun out of the game when you have trouble moving.
that's not the only problem. I kinda agree with the original poster, however his reasons for not liking the classes are not my own. the "classes" are fine, the way the put them in the game and how boring they APPEAR is what is the downfall. first off, the character models are by far, the worst character models in any game to date, which is odd, because the vanguard world is completely the opposite, it's like two seperate teams did the work, one the models the other the world. back to the classes, let's take the PSI for example. of course he uses his mind instead of actual "magic" but you might as well tell me to go outside, and pretend to use my mind to kill a squirrel. it's boring, oooo his head kinda glows red..and it sounds like he's punching a dumptruck when his spell casts.. what is that? I think this is what the original poster really thought, the classes are fine, it's the bread and butter of a fantasy MMO with a few extras, but they are just implemented so horribly they are really not fun like they should be. we are a race of people who are into asthetics, otherwise we would just play text based muds.
well, this is becoming a rant.. but i do hope vanguard makes some big changes, because it very well could be the best MMO out there, it's just not worth it to suffer through right now.

IYO, what MMORPG has the funnest quintessential wizard class?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/16/07 1:19:17 PM
you have 2 choices that are not up for debate, as they ARE the best wizards. NWN wizard, and the Ultima Online Mage. by far the best magic systems put into place in any game to date. LOTRO COULD have a very cool magic system, if there were actual magic instead of stupid magic ideas.. I've always wanted to play a caster who used his magic staff to do things instead of just a fireball here, a fireball there.. i want to shake my staff and have a creature explode... put some thought in it lol.
but still, NWN and UO magic systems are still the best to date. |

lol, the font is the last thing vanguard needs to worry about. if any cosmetic thing needs looked at before all the glitches, it's the rediculous character models, they are absolutely horrid. which is weird because the world looks astounding. |

I didn't feel like quoting the person but I think this pertains to the entire thread, alot of people seem to not like the idea of DX10, I beg to differ, a game where you can find comparisons is a game called Crysis coming out for the PC and 360.
Watch the dx9 and dx10 comparisons and it's like going from a normal tv(dx9) to a really nice hdtv(dx10)
it's HUGELY noticeable what they can do with dx10 in comparison. |

the worst metaphor I have ever heard. people who don't want respecs are people who can't deal with people who are actually smart enough to adapt. your EGO is why you don't want people to respec, you think your character means shit to anyone but yourself? it doesn't. people are always in others buisness way too much, if someone is paying 15$ a month and wants new skills and spells without having to go through the idiots grind, then so be it. I bet you money there would be less and less "we can't find a healer" "we can't find a tank" only a certified moron would be against such ideas, a person full of himself and needs special attention from his mothers tit. |

I did it.....another returning vet....perhaps this will help others
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 7/06/07 11:41:37 AM
First off, I need to speak my mind about the "vets" who will not come back due to what sony did. No matter WHAT you think you know, you are being ignorant to other factors. Take a look at EVERY skill point based game and tell me what happens in the end? I'm going to give you utlima online as a prime example, there are a few others notably but to me not worth mentioning. When it was in it's prime, it's based on a 700 point skill system, you could have 7 skills at 100. ALMOST THE EXACT SAME SETUP as SWG, except SWG might have had a few more or a few less trees, I cant remember. Now what does this cause? You think you are allowed so much freedom but in reality, NO ONE is going to create a character with crappy skills, you are NOT going to go, damn.. that skill is so useless I just HAVE to pick it. People post new builds, eventually there is a master build and EVERYONE uses it. Honestly, those complaining about the class system just really have no idea what they are complaining about, they just want to be haters. The class system I think, is much better than the previous, I played at launch for about 2.5-3 months, long enough to get master bounty hunter, and unfortunately I had to leave due to all the bugs the game had. Along with the broken pvp system, was able to 1 shot people with the bh's EYE shot lol. Anyway, you know im about about the point system, you can flame me for it but it's true, the point system will NEVER work in any game, because there will always be a best.
Now, back on subject. I recently tried the free trial for the first time after I left so long ago, and came back to a REALLY fun experience. The graphics sucked compared to all the other games I have been playing lately but they were still decent, some things in the game looked absolutely amazing, and then some things, like trees and bush's looked absolutely rediculous lol. The new experience I had was the Legacy Quest. As soon as I left the training station, Han Solo started me on the legacy quest, and I did NOTHING but this quest until it was over. When the quest was over, I was level 49.8 I killed probably 8 monsters and reached level 50. This is where the game starts to go downhill. SWG is not like every other MMO in the fact that there are almost NO static spawns, you kill a lair and it disapears and goes somewhere else. So, when you finish the legacy quest, since there is almost NO place to hunt in this game in an open world environment... You are left with just about 1 option, Kashyyk. You get there and there are a few quests you can do, but a majority of the quests require a full group(good luck finding one) or some lvl 90 friends to powerlevel you through them. Which to me is unacceptable.
To wrap up, my experience from 1-50 was extremely fun, once I hit 50, I hit a completely solid brick wall, and the fun stopped, I went from planet to planet looking for a way to level. I managed to get from 50 to 54, I had done a few of the kashyyk quests with a guild friend who was 89. I can't accept that though, I want to explore and have fun leveling, not get rushed through it... and there is almost no way to do it. maybe your experience will be better, but unless you have a high lvl character to begin with, im betting you hit the same brick wall at 50.

the killer in eq2 is not raiding, it's GETTING a group that is the killer. i left the game about a year ago at lvl 57 because I was sick of sitting in qeynos with /lfg turned on listening in to the 50-60 lfg channel. solo you say? eq2 is NOT solo friendly, not unless you have alot of patience and enjoy dieing alot. my char was a 57 wiz and like 3 hits from an even con mob = death, that's non-heroic. they just recently updated their /lfg and it STILL does not help getting one.
I just recently started playing D&D.. i might have chosen lotro but I always play casters, and lore-master does NOT do it for me, what a pos class lol. anyway, to the point, the DDO lfg feature is the absolute best thing I have ever seen put into place in an MMO EVER. it has the normal LFG function where you can show people that you are LFG or, you can create your own party, which players can press the join button to notify you they want to join, once your party is full it removes you from the list automatically. it's absolutely revolutionary and should be put into place in every MMO.

maybe a little old school for some of you, but you guys don't know what fear is, until you go to the third level of Despise, explore it a little, and then all of a sudden you hear a dragon roaring, and soon after, a fireball wizzing towards you. I never ran so fast in my life, in any MMO.
as for new mmo's.. i dont think we have the technology yet to have boss monsters that actually get my heart pumping. there was an nvidia demo at one point showing off what game designers COULD do with their card, it was a cave type place with a dragon sitting in the middle, and just watching it gave me shivers, it looked REAL lol.. I want video game designers to make boss monsters HARD, every fight should NOT be the same, im sick of bosses like in WOW and EQ where dragons just sit there while 40 people wail on it. it should blow fire, spit fireballs, slash you with it's tail, fly around and swoop at your, knock you down with it's tail, or maybe impale you.. dragons should be fierce and wield EXTREME TREASURE, yet you should have a really, extremely hard time defeating it. every fight with it should be different and challenging.
but, like i said, i dont think we are there technologically. |

I have never understood it really. I remember back in EQ 1 days, when someone got a new piece of armor, you KNEW what it was without inspecting them. EQ2, not to mention vanguard, or ANY other MMO out there today, you have to inspect people to see what they are wearing, because the companies are so dull and bland.. no creativity. I could set wow apart, but wow is just a really crappy grindfest in every aspect, and really the only way you can set people apart is that each class has it's own sets of armor to define their look. |

wierd, I coulda swore I posted this in DDO forums, I clicked on the right link lol. Yes, DDO is right. It really is a fun game, d&d spell / fighting system is always fun, and the fact that pretty much the only thing to do in this game is go through dungeons which is what I play MMO's for.. but the free-for-all attitude of most groups is just lame.
|
|
|
And now i'm leaving. It is a really cool game, but it seems the majority of the population are little kids. You join a group and when you get in the dungeon... all people do is run around, smash boxs and split up. Not to mention, 90% of the people you hear on voice sound like little mice, or more explanitory.. 8 year olds.
