In every MMO, there will always be people ahead of you, EVE is no different. However as long as you're smart about your skill plan in a couple short months you can carve out a place for yourself in EVE. Find what role you'd like to fill and do some research into what skills you will need. Browsing your certificates is a good start, reading forums and talking to other players would be even better. As long as you don't get into the mind set of "I have to have the most skill points in all of EVE" you'll soon find that you're snapping necks, cashing checks, and accomplishing goals. |

This game does sound interesting to me, however I've said that about games published from promising IP's in the past and felt let down. I'll be following this one closely, that's for sure. Would love if this game lived up to what I'm sure will be a great deal of hype in the coming year. Here's to hoping that at least 1 Games Workshop IP isn't wasted. |

LOTRO has a free weekend starting today, going through the 21st. I recommend giving that a try if you haven't before. Best MMO community out there, IMHO... great story, great dungeons, lots of great group content. Give it a shot, and if you don't like it... well you've got 5 free days of entertainment. |

AoC just FLOPPED ... (EA Closed... No Warning, No fineprint)
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/17/08 4:53:36 PM
I love how up in arms you guys get when someone has an issue with the pre-order. Yeah OK, technically, it did say that EA was limited in some of the released information, if you did what you should have done and reserched it. Yet I still haven't heard one question answered in any of these threads where someone pre-orders and doesn't get access... Why is the EA limited in the first place? I mean really, if FC has the servers in place (which with the release a few days away, they'd better be ready to go), what would be the point in making it a limited early access to begin with? It'd be like taking your kids to McDonalds and ordering a Happy Meal for your kids, and knowing that the only reason why kids want a happy meal, and the only reason why you wind up paying a bit more for said happy meal, is to get that little crappy toy inside.... and then finding out you didn't get the toy this time. You kids are crying, throwing food everywhere, making a scene... and all you can think is, "It's a happy meal, it's supposed to have a cheap toy inside. I was promised a cheap toy. How hard is it to put a toy in a cardboard box??" Horrid Analogy, I know. My point being this: There shouldn't be a loophole like fine print saying "limited EA". Period. Even the fanbois should know this, unless you got access, in which case you probably don't care about who doesn't get access. Now don't get me wrong, I do hope this game goes off. It looks to have promise, and I'd like to be able to give it a go someday. I just hear too many complaints about beta issues yet to be resolved, loading screens, and now with pre-order issues, I just think back to games in the past with launch issues... and I think i'll just watch from a distance until after release, maybe everything will smooth out after launch.

Originally posted by ZorndorfZorn with all due respect, and I say this as a current WoW player, I don't think you realize how many players there are that still play WoW simply because... well there's really not a whole lot else out there at the moment that appeals to us. Sure there are games like LOTRO, FF11, EVE, EQ 2... but WoW, at least for me, is the lesser of the evils. (and I say this having played those games , and enjoyed them for what they were.) While I can't speak for everyone, and i'm sure in fact it's more that I speak for a minority, there are those who will jump all over the next game that offers them a good polished NEW game that, frankly isn't WoW. Yes you are correct that WoWs current numbers are impressive, however I don't think it's 10.7 million completely mindless fanbois completely in love with WoW, more like 7 million teenagers, and a few million players just waiting for the next big thing to hit the market. /rant over |

WoW will never die? I call shenanigans on that one. WoW will die. All MMOs die at some point. Will AoC kill it? No. Will WAR kill it? No. Will the combination of the two lead to a decreased WoW population? Yes somewhat it will. It was the same thing with EQ when WoW was released. People said that WoW would be the EQ killer. Which it wasn't, EQ was simply killed by two things, old age and new MMOs. However it's not like the day after WoW came out there was a mass exodus from the EQ servers. Get real. And stop making posts for the specific purpose of creating drama. That's all that can come from a thread like this.

Lack of pet classes makes me a sad caster
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 5/15/08 4:53:45 PM
I personally think that pet classes as implimented in most current MMOs take a low degree of skill to play, especially in most PvP situations. Looking at WoW as the standard example, Hunters and Warlocks can have a significant portion of their DPS done by their pet, depending on their Spec. I personally don't see this as fair to other classes, and I for one am glad that WAR is only going with one pet class for Destruction, and (Probably?) one for Order. Obviously the game is still being tweaked, so it will be interesting to see how these classes are finally balanced. What I wouldn't be against seeing is pets used for more utility reasons than combat reasons. Maybe for buffs, or the like. Or perhaps having pets DPS, but having their DPS output being SIGNIFICANTLY reduced from how pet DPS was handled in WoW. Granted their DPS wasn't enough to kill another player solo, but when you figure that hunters and warlocks were DPS based to begin with, it just kinda gave them an extra un-needed advantage in PvP. IMO anyways.

Honestly, there won't be any class close to the MS warrior in AoC. So by all means continue playing WoW. Because in all honesty, I prey that the toolbag WoW community just stays put where it is, and doesn't move on to play games like AoC or WAR. Worst MMO community EVER. |

Honestly, I'd love nothing more than to see the geeky yet quirky guys at Mythic grab whatever makeshift weapons they could find at their office, load themselves into vans and drive over to Blizzard Headquarters. Invade the building, looting and pillaging. Ransacking cubicles, knocking over water-coolers, thrashing the company breakroom before storming the CEOs office on the top floor. I honestly think that Mark Jacobs could beat Mike Morhaime in a straight up fight. Now that, my friends, is what I call RvR.
