General: Forum Spotlight: The Solo Content Debate
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/11/07 4:23:04 PM
I like playing solo or in a small group... i only really resent having to group when its hard to find a group. Hours spamming LFG for the right class is not my idea of an enjoyable gaming experience. BUT How hard would it be to create a dungeon and last boss content for solo players... Think about all the raids you've been in with 20 maybe 40 other players and now think about what it would have been like if only you were in there. Seriously, it would be dull. All the mobs would have to be able to be defeated by one of each class. So basically they'd each have to have several weaknesses and attacks that didn't completely blow away a particualr class. For example - you have a caster and you have a tank. You need to make a boss that canbe defeated by both of them. So it needs to be weak to magic, weak to physical. Also it can't do ranged attacks as thats not fair on the tank. It can't cause heavy physical damage coz that wouldn't be fair on the caster... see what i'm getting at? They'd have to use a cookie cutter for each boss.
The only solution i see would be like what Guild Wars has - npc group members. Ofc that not an easy thing to do... They just don't react. I'd settle for the simple solution of keeping max grop numbers quite low maybe 10 max and then if you're in a group you can do it lower and when you're a slightly higher level you can solo it... depends how quickly you want the nice loot. |

Maybe a dumb question... but with multi-platform games, can all the people playing on different platforms interact with each other and access their own account from whichever platform they have at hand OR is it like all the mobile people are on one server and all the PC people on another etc etc? |

Team Fortress 2 is ridiculously fun!
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 10/11/07 6:51:26 AM
Aye, is a great game! I'm just a little confused about it seeming a million times more buggy now its released than throughout the whole of the beta People falling through the floor and shooting round corners/through walls is starting to get on my nerves... |

Nonsense is a theory that is unsubstantiated with physical proof. If someone proposes something exist that we cannot see, as in with the germ guy, then they need to show satisfactory evidence which i am presuming he did not. |

I played Portal yesterday, a game that comes as part of The Orange Box, and it's amazing! i think it's intended as a tester to see what people think and maybe, hopefully, they'll make a full length game version! Its seems to fall into the genre of action as well as puzzle, although it requires a lot of logical thinking, and i thought it was so much fun i played it from start to finish in a 4 hour session! The first 12 levels seem more about getting your head around the concept and then the later levels are a lot more intensive. There is a lot of sinister humour in it, quite comical in places. I loved it! |

"Young does not necessarily mean immature, and older does not necessarily mean not immature" pretty much sums up my opinion. Although i feel it has been shown several times that using sex and violence to up the rating tends to result in a mass of immature people, regardless of age. |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Dev Chat Transcript
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/10/07 5:24:32 AM
I'm not sure really what to make of the answers... they all seemed kinda vague. I would have thought this far into the beta that they could have give us something a bit more specific... It sounds promising but i just don't think they've made their mind up yet about some pretty basic things. Even if they stated specifics, ran them through the beta and they had to be tweeked is better than playing dumb. If they don't know for sure, no one does :P I'll be interested to see when it actually get released, but certainly looking forward to it atm |

What is the lowest, dirtiest thing....
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/09/07 7:16:51 PM
In one game, i was a late starter and asking geniune noob questions and the community was really nice. Some of the long-time players offered me the item they told me i needed, but they were really really expensive. I was maybe half way to the max level and one of these items was worth 10 times the total money i had made and i had several people contacting telling me they had one i could have. You can hold like 6 of this item but i only needed one... but when a few people offered me one of the items, instead of just accepting one... i took them all I just feel really bad about it, but they felt good doing a good deed... i didn't sell them, i just had all my slots full... didn't play it for very long either... not like i knew their names to return them anyway....

How many of you are going to give Star Trek Online a shot?
Perpetual Studios Version Discussion « Star Trek Online 10/09/07 7:07:14 PM
Who could write off a game based around the legend that is Star Trek... Anyone who has ever enjoyed any of the TV series should be itching to play, i certainly am and i only watched Star Trek when sitting with my dad... must have watched a fair few episodes though. I'd certainly prefer to have a free trial, and unless i'm already 100% sure i'm going to play the game then i won't buy without a free trial... however this game would be an exception. If there is no free trial and i don't get into the beta i'm still going to buy it as it is something that i will HAVE to see for myself. Can't wait... phew... some wait though 2009/2010... |

Team Fortress 2 taunts (hilarious)
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 10/09/07 6:58:27 PM
I was about to say that it didn't include all the verbal taunts... I like the snipers ones... mainly because i like playing sniper on a good map for it "Wave goodbye to your head, wanker!" is one of my favourites and one that he missed off the movie... I used that one in my spray paint :) I die like 10 times just getting to get to a good place to stick it down where they'll see it |

What IS an original quest? And other silliness
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/09/07 6:48:51 PM
I'd expect "original quests" to contain elements of what you listed but to be long chains that ultimately have consequences. So instead of "I lost my toothbrush, one of the wolves must have it, go and kill them until you find it and i'll give you an item and some rep" i'd like it to be something more like "winter is coming, the orphans need coats or they'll die, go and kill some wolves" and then if you don't, the orphans die but some goblin needs some orphan souls so it opens up a series of quests from the goblin OR if you kill the wolves the orphans live and you continue along that quest series, never hearing from the goblin. I'd love it you could redo the game from scratch several times and do quests you never even saw depending on what choices you made last time round... Also i like the thought of puzzles... not like a completely random "play tic tac toe to save the old mans life" but like quests that revolve around you being observant, maybe a treasure hunt type quest but its not as obvious as following your map marker. Maybe you have to visit locations in a certain order dependant on where the light shines at different times of the day... Maybe you need info off someone and you have to work out where you'll find them. I'd just like some depth and consequence in short.

I don't understand the hosility towards the OP... this is the RUMOUR forum afterall and the essence of a RUMOUR is that it doesn't come with hard evidence i actually thought the game looked quite good from the screen shots and general info provided, but all i have heard from beta testers is negative remarks. I don't think i've heard any praise for it... so i guess its no surprise if they did cancel it, or at least put it on hold until they see how PotBS turns out and how much of a fan base WAR/AoC get.

Pirates of the Burning Sea: A Guided Tour
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/09/07 6:16:27 PM
I was really excited and then when i played the stress test i was gutted as i started as France and all the quests are poorly balanced... then i tried Pirate and they have clearly done a lot more work on their quests and i am still quite excited, but i think i'll end up playing AoC/WAR to play with friends. The only thing that i cannot forgive them for is the lack of authentic accents. All the ncps sound american, and if there should be one thing completely excluded from this game, it is american accents... |

Which has more skill involved: FPS or MELEE fighting?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 10/09/07 4:38:36 AM
There are so many ways to interpret the question... 1vs1? team vs team? pvp? pve? I presume you mean 1 vs 1 pvp fighting, otherwise there are too many variables... I think melee has the potential to require a lot more skill. FPS is a case of dodging and shooting straight and most of the time you both dodge so quickly that it become spray and prey. I suppose it takes a bit of skill to snipe a moving target, but thats about it. Melee you make an attack and they have to defends with the right one, while countering and dodging... but you have to stay in range to hit... a lot more skill. Its just more turn based and tactical. |

Feeding the homeless...is a crime!
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 10/09/07 4:26:59 AM
Yeah, feeding the homeless is bad for the economy... especially in places that have nice temperature and not too much rain. All they need is food to thrive. You feed one and a hundred show up, people don't want to live near them so property prices fall, shops are avoided and lose custom, public places become unsafe for children... it's irresponsible. A lot of them are homeless because that is the way they want to live as strange as it sounds, so there is no need to pity them. |

I played in the ETQW beta and thought it was entertaining and pre-ordered it, but in the meantime i played TF2 which is a lot of fun. When ETQW actually came out, i played it, but it just seems slow and painful compared to TF2 so i haven't bothered much. That said, i am getting pretty bored with the TF2 maps... its unual to have a close match, you either get pwned or completely kick ass or some are just stalemate for 30 mins. So maybe i'll revert back to ETQW soon enough. |

Will Gaming Continue To Get More "Mainstream" Attention?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 10/09/07 4:13:06 AM
I think it'll just get bigger and bigger until it gets banned or restricted. There'll be GA (gamers anonymous) clinics all over the country to battle the epidemic and wars will be started because some kid ninja'd loot intended for President Bush. |

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes: New Screenshots
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/09/07 4:04:10 AM
I really liked Vanguard in terms of gameplay and content, and even graphically it was perfectly acceptable. I stopped playing it because of the bugs that never got fixed and the fact higher levels farmed all the instances. I thought it was a real shame it flopped... but i don't think new screen shots are going to alter that, however pretty they are. |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Beta to Close for Two Months
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/09/07 3:58:42 AM
It kinda makes sense to me, regardless of the reason, if they didn't they'd have to cough up for beta servers for another 4 - 6 month and they've already been at it for few month... who'd wanna do that. I mean, in that length of time, beta testers would have been completing all the release content with several classes lol I just hope they scrap all the old beta testers and get in some new ones! ie. ME

You will not be any closer to an answer unless it comes from the devs. At AoC they seem to have the publicity inducing elements of their game nailed, but i don't feel they have really decided on half of the things they should have sorted by now. |
