Someone care to explain me why it would be unwise to LA have 2 SW mmorpgs around? For all i know they just own the license and take slice of the profit and have no part in paying the upkeep of the servers ?

I played LOTRO mainly because it is LOTR.

That one sentence sums it up...and makes me believe that is why people continue to play this game. It has done nothing new, interesting, and took old tired mechanics from other MMO's ands made them the same or more boring (progress bars indeed...so many, and so slow...go to sleep while you craft..)

Is it the license that did it for you? Also, have you played other MMO's...within the last 6 months have you played WoW, Guild Wars, EQ2, or something along that lines...or, is it the fact it does the things the other MMO's do...but prettier?

Also, if your not playing, do you feel Turbine did right by the license, but the game gets boring...Or they ruined the license, but the gameplay was ok, or finally they killed the license AND killed gameplay

Cheers!

It was the license what made me buy  LOTRO and i have to say it indeed disappointed me on certain areas

There are some things Turbine made better. Most of the gathering quests are less-mindnumbling when doing with more than 1 person (when collecting stuff more than 1 gets the hides or whatever you need to collect from the corpse) not all quests work this way though. Also the Fellowship Maneuver is something i haven't seen before in other games.

I would suggest you to check out for ATI 1950pro series card. Around here they cost about the same as 8600 GT/GTS but are more powerfull than the nvidia cards

www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html

Do not change to Vista, it will just decreese your PC performance to get some fancy crap at the desktop also ive heard theres still lots of issues so maybe after the service pack 1 and when you change for more powerfull system

I didn't start getting bored of Wow until i was playing for over 8 months. I was also hooked on EQ2 for several months. But Lotro not even 1 week. Whatever it is that makes a game addicting needs to be added to Lotro.

LOTR:O needs somekind of tallent or skill tree system, so you can choose more different things and not just be the guardian clone number #34237214. This is the reason why LOTR:O is not "addictive" for me.

Sure theres traits but the low number of them is making it pointless.

Characters also feel weak... getting killed by a badger is great fun for some i guess

Citi's Brent Thill noted that the "industry is buzzing over [BioWare's] mystery MMO," predicting, "based on past development work" that Bioware is quietly working on the Star Wars MMO. You underestimate the power of the Dark Side. If you will not CANCEL NOW, then you will meet your destiny.

Seriously though.. I'm sure the hardcore fanboys won't cancel even if SOE turns all character models to dog turds and makes them jump everytime they fire special

TBH crafting is what makes SWG special (don't know if its still the same as pre-CU). Rest of the game is just horrible WoW clone with FPS crapped on top of it.

I'm not saying LOTR:O is bad game. It is ONE of the best on the market when it comes to polished world&content. Also not saying the trait system is bad but it just doesn't motivate me to grind 700 maggots in someplace to get tiny boost to my virtue trait. Class trait seems to be the only trait type that has more "good" traits than there is free slots.

But for example the racial traits. Dwarf at level 50 with 5 slots free has these to choose from

1. Dwarf axe-damage bonus: +2%

2. Dwarf endurance: small bonus for fellowship vitality for 10 minutes (1h cooldown)

3. Endurance of stone: +75% mitigation against fire,shadow, common last 10 sec(1hcooldown)

4. Fatefull Dwarf: +20 fate

5. Guile and Might Bonus: Small bonus to Fellowship Maneuvers

6. Head-butt: Dwarf hits enemy  with his head for 30 damage(at lvl50)

7. Return to Thorin's Gate: teleports the dwarf to Thorin's halls

8. Shield Brawler: +2% with shields

So if im playing Dwarf Champion i can already see that 4,6 and 8 are useless for me and theres only 5 traits to choose from, so i don't have to really think more than that, and every dwarf champion will have the same traits as me.

Racials 2 and 6 are laughable, very crappy racials. So racial traits can't be counted as bringers of diversity.

Same goes for the race of man.. no mather what class the racials are the same it seems

Virtue traits add around 300(?) morale, few % of melee, ranged, poison or magic resistance and some other small stats in the end if you farm the right ones

Class traits are bit different, there is more to choose from.

Legendary traits.. most classes seem to have only 1or 2 "good" traits that everyone will have slotted no diversity there either.

I have studied the stuff on the forums and Loremaster and Minstrel are getting more spells/skills later  this month and housing is coming too. So little more hope for this game ;)

grouping is fine atm. and dungeons look great. its just the pigeonholed classes that have no diversity at all that bores me..

Withe the AA path, you have various avenues you can take your character to make him or her unique,,LOTRO does not have this option...so you basically get cookie cutter classes....each player is always the same in the end..

Cheers!

I have no experience about that, only tried EQ2 Trial shortly and didn't like it ;)

Traits are useless? I guess not. DIfference between a level 50 with no traits and level 50 with traits is like 40% more morale (hit points), 30% more power(mana), and maybe 10% more damage. This can be modified by +/-10% by choosing different traits than I did.

Lotro is not WoW its actually very different. Lotro is AC2 so if you played AC2 a lot you would find many samiliarities. Where Lotro is focused on lore, richness of quests and casual-time playing, WoW tries to be hardcore time sink. The difficulty of challenges is equal tho.

Traits aren't that powerfull and theres only few of them (class and race) so everyone has the same traits in the end. Virtues have very small effect in the end and you have to kill over 700 the same mobs to get tiny upgrade for them. Only few classes have legendary traits that are actually close to what legendary should be.

There is no chance to customize your fighting/playing style, appearance and pets. Everyone pets are excatly the same(small difference if you have the crappy pet trait slotted)

What i mean with "same as WoW without tallents" picture it in your mind if theres no tallents in WoW .. theres no difference what so ever between characters with same class

Join the level 30+ club...seems there is an issue in that level range that everyone seems to hit..

More power to those who can muddle through that..I hit 35, and could not push myself anymore...horrible performance helped my decision...I am a completist, and really wanted to finish to 50 at least...but, hitching stuttering associated with boring gameplay and a horrible UI just made me go ahead and cancel..

If the performance gets fixed, and housing is finally in...oh and lets not forget...FISHING...then I would probably go back...for now, I am happy in EQ2, GW and Perfect World (hey...flying just rocks...the ONLY reason to play this one)

Cheers!

the game runs amazingly smooth for me, UI has some issues like if you "zoom up" to make the spell/skill slots bigger the textures can't follow

the game has potential.. its justs very boring and pigeonholed atm

The game comes very boring after 30 and theres nothing to look for... every time you level up you get maybe some boring passive +1% to parry or new skill/spell that is just useless. (playing loremaster lvl32)

WoW had the tallent system that worked nicely and you always had 1 point more after every level

LOTR:O has trait system.. the traits are mostly weak, +1% wound resistance, 10 points more morale ??

There are class traits that make some skills bit better, but everyone has the same stuff anyway. I haven't got the legendary traits yet, i heard they are good.

So basicly LOTRO is WoW without the tallents. Only thing to upgrade/mix-max is gear.

Dungeons and some areas look nice. Fellowship maneuvers are great idea but thats all i see good in this game at the moment

Ill keep playing untill something more interesting comes up

Its already too late, it was already  year ago too late.. SWG is crap and will stay as it is untill they take the servers down and someone else starts to make new SW MMO with good game engine.

  • Engine where you can actually jump, fly your ship and land on the planet not only in starports
  • Good class system, no pigeonhole crap. Something like in pre-CU
  • Content and meaningfull pvp system
  • Decay and good crafting system (I think SWG still has the other)
