Besides EVE lotro is what i do 99% of the time. This new expansion is a awsome incetive.

I just don' twant to see the other geer get flushed. It should stay good geer , but its almost as if i this is too hard to believe. As long as the geer from hele , rift uru , stys like godly for lvl 50-55 then thats fine.I want to see , tons of stuff , hudreds of directions to alternate your character with that stuff / enhance it , and thousands of ways to get it. Then there can be 5 different kick ass lore-masters with completely different geer, which means alternating thier powers as well.

I agree with you Bedlem.

I think this may be in part what they have in mind for their new Legendary items.  Perhaps we can use our existing items as parts to make these new weapons and armor.

That way the items from the existing content are still seen as a necessary step while still allowing for the growth of the game overall.

There is quite a bit of talk on the official forums about how Turbine will deal with this aspect.  The one thing that almost everyone is agreed upon is that current gear needs to have a place in content going forward.  Otherwise, they run the risk of repeating some of the more frustrating aspects of WoW's current game.

Hopefully, they are using the lessons learned from other games and taking steps to avoid the same problems.

hmmm, well, "only so much".

Meaning, it's ok that the gear you get is worth something but it can't be equal to future gear. I don't understand why players are so adverse to better gear, new lvls, etc.

Otherwise what is there to work for? Why go forward other than to just have the same lvls, same gear etc.

I mean, no one is saying "gear that I got at lvls 1-10 needs to be just as viable".

If they raise the lvl cap and raise the challenges it only makes sense to be able to raise the gear. Sounds to me like they are taking this into account with being able to rais gear to different lvls. So that might be of help.

In any case, what I like about LOTRO is that you can have gear that you received as drops or quest rewards and it is still viable. Heck, my guardian of all things is using a dagger that has better damage than anything I can find in the auction house and it was a quest reward. Now, personally, i don't like the idea of my guardian using a dagger but it works.

I can't speak for Bedlem but I'll try to clarify what I was trying to convey.

One of the existing problems that Wow, EQ2, and other MMOs that have been out awhile have is that once they release new High-level content (and items) then the currently existing high-level content (and by extension the items in those areas) are not visited as often or at all.  A valuable content-rich area is then in essence wasted.

For examples of this visit the WoW and EQ2 boards and look for posts about new items that were added into the game with expansions that are more easily obtained and have better overall stats.   If players can experience content and by extension acquire items that are both better and easier to aquire than what was available previously... that doesn't make for great MMO design.

Land-mass and content that isn't getting utilized in a MMO usually isn't a good thing.  It's something that most MMOs strive to avoid.  This is something that I'm hoping Turbine strives to alleviate if not eliminate altogether with LoTRo as it moves forward and continues to grow.

Areas like The Rift, Helegrod, CD, BD, Uru, Annuminas, etc.  Will Turbine change how they are accessed to some extent once the expansion is released?  Or will they stay the same?  Will content in the new release be on the same scale in regards to how that content is accessed?

I have confidence in Turbine that they have a plan in place that will try to address some of the short-comings of other MMOs in keeping content fresh and utilize their already released areas to their fullest potential (as evidenced by their announcement to re-vamp the Annuminas instances in Book 13).    That was what I was trying to convey in the previous post I made on the subject.

I like that they're adding some more levels... but I've been around long enough in MMOs to realize that the first level increase is where some MMOs stumble.  I'm hoping that Turbine has planned for this moment from day one.  If they have, it will be great; and they will continue their impressive track record with LoTRo that they've already established.

That's just part of what MMO's are about man.  If it doesn't happen due to a level cap increase, then it will happen through other methods.  A new raid comes out and makes the previous one irrelevant.  A new weapon type comes out that is more powerful, making older weapons obsolete.   New content makes old content outdated.  That's life in an MMO.

Thats a bit of a strange comment to make. So just because WoW, EQ2 etc have done this means "Thats life" in an MMO? I personally hate how older places, gear etc bacome meaningless with new content, I just done see why they cant tie these places, weapons, armour into the new content also. Like making items gained from the older places prerequisites for a new crafting recipe or an "upgrade quest". Heck, even the levelling of weapons seems to be a good idea. With the new content they could obviously introduce new weapons, items etc but they could also maybe create quests (difficult ones) that would allow your older weapons to reach "new levels". This would help keep older content interesting and meaningful. Just an idea...

I dont play LOTRO btw (I'm a PvP boy) but this announcement has seriously made me consider this game...lets see if they can pull it off. Nice to see at least one company are looking after their fans...well, CCP do too i suppose...

And yes, that was sarcasm.

By your tagline you're apparently bored with history, fantasy, war and sci-fi mmos. Me thinks your the kinda person thats never pleased. Please just stick to single player games and do us all a favour...

Anyways, this game looks good so far. Hope it really is a sandbox by the time it comes out. We've all seen how things change in development. I personally think a lot of MMORPG gamers are looking for something deeper than the level/class/linear build thats so common nowadays.

Hmmm...its my oppinion that a large portion of AoC subscribers are going to be people who have played WoW and gotten sick of it. I mean, i played WoW for 2 years and loved it for about 1 and a half years. (last 6 months i was just kidding myself tbh). WoW has gained lots of customers but its also lost a hell of a lot of people too. These people who have left WoW don't want a WoW clone. I certainly don't. If i wanted WoW, i'd play WoW. Simple as.  So if Funcom do over emulate WoW, i think they will end up with a "middleground" game. Same thing happened to LOTRO. Its not a bad game at all, but why would people move from WoW to play a WoW clone? Anyway, i still have hopes for this game. We shall see...

Ah hahahahaha! My god. Could they make this game any more tedious? Its like they're deliberately trying to get rid of their players. 50 big ones for a transfer and only the items you're wearing get transferred? uh? what?

Its clearly going to be Diablo gents. i mean, look at the facts. Diablo and Diablo 2 were both huge. Plus, the online play in D2 was great and had a massive following (considering how less popular online gaming was compared to nowadays standards). For such a huge success of a game, why would they NOT develop a Diablo MMO. It would be stupid tbh. And for those of you that think its too close to WoW, i see what you mean but its not really. Diablo is grittier and harsher and isnt really for the 10 year olds. Think AoCish. Blood, guts, horror and just general....darkness really. No shiny happy elves here. Plus the diablo lore is extensive. I think theres even been books written in the Diablo world so there'd be a lot to go on.

Anyways, if they released Diablo Online, i would definately pay to try it out. And im guessing theres MANY gamers out there that would do the same. But tbh most people will try anything new blizz dish out. i certainly would. They at least deserve respect for changing the MMO industry forever...

I haven't a bloody clue...I just hope one of em manages to satisfy me. If not then i think i'm done with MMOs...

This is just plain stupid.  i get the feeling you have bought gold before. with the likes of you in the mmorpg community what chance does any real gamer have?  I'm refusing to play a game that supports this. economy will be made meaningless as most of the gold on a server will be created my bots/farmers. spawn points will be occupied with farmers/bots, giving the real player no chance.  can u imagine all the little rich annoying kids in there e-peen gear...pwnpwnpwnpwnpwn!!! ugh its killing me to think of it. As things stand now, ill be going back to Blizzard since there the only company thats spoken out against it so far. Hopefully Mythic will too. As for Funcom, for shame!!

I will never play a SOE or Funcom game again if RMT is implemented...And i'd say thousands of gamers would feel the same. This is so rtarded. But hey...there'd be no issue here if gamers didn't supply the demand for gold. Idiots

Righto. Posted this already in the Game Suggestion section, but i dunno if many people read there tbh. I've played WoW for 2 years and quit about 4 months ago. I loved that game but it just has nothing more to offer me at the moment. These are just a few things that would bring me back to the game if they were implemented. My question to you is this? Do you think that these features will ever be implemented? Let me know ;)

I'd love to see the ability to learn other races languages. Like Humans being able to learn Orcish, therefore allowing them to speak to some Horde chars. I still can't get my head around why Night Elves cant speak to Blood elves already. Didn't they speak the same language at some stage? I'm sure theres a historical reason for this. ;) This would totally add a new dimension to the game and would open up the community a bit. It would make PvP a bit more interesting if we could trash talk or RP with the opposite faction in BGs. Maybe if they just limit it to /say command to begin with and maybe expand from there? Just a thought.

I'd also love to see a Graphics update. WoWs graphics are rough on the eyes for me. I'm not saying to upgrade them to VG quality or anything, just a moderate increase that would still allow most players to be able to handle it on their rigs. Tabula Rasa esque graphics maybe? A little less even.

And finally, i'd love to see a little meaningful PvP going on. Like World PvP actually meaning something significant. Like faction controlled areas that maybe have the best crafting mats, vendors, instances or quests? Would be so cool if there was a highend instance that could be only accessed by the faction that controls the surrounding area. It would totally open up PvP a bit and might even appeal to the more carebear natured people, as its only in certain areas and its not like theres full loot or anything. Hardcore players would probably enjoy this too. I dunno...thoughts people?

This games not for carebears. This games for the people who want this kinda pvp so i don't get how carebears even get an oppinion on this. There's plenty of games out there with little or no pvp. Go play them. We're finally getting what we wanted...

Glad i'm not the only one who has been feeling like this. MMOs are just so shallow lately. No real meaning to them. Holding out for Darkfall if it ever comes into existance. WAR and AoC could work for me...maybe. If they manage to have any depth ofc...

  • The lack of meaningful PvP.
  • Immaturity of a lot of the players.
  • Inability to speak to the opposite faction (not a big problem, but would be cool if we could)
  • Grindfest.
  • Boring to gain rep.
  • Very repetitive and boring once you reach the lvl cap.
  • The importance of gear in determining PvP outcome.

Other than that WoW was a good game for me. I spent 2 years playing and had a great time. I'm just looking for something more substantial to play now. I.e Meaningful PvP, Interesting PvE and a more player dependant economy.

Its got a pretty good player base mate. I found a real nice guild on my 2nd day playing and thats on the FFA PVP server. I think that has the smallest population. I would recommend giving it a try. Its quite good, and more of a challenge that the likes of WoW or LOTRO. Lots to do early on, solo, group, dungeons, quests etc. Not sure about end game yet tbh. Ignore most of the haters on this site. Dunno what there problem is. I think the fact that SOE develop this game annoys people a bit.

Bah! Retarded OP. You're literally basing your oppinion on the VERY 1ST quest you got? And god only knows how crap your computer is for it to display the game so badly as it did.

Are there still several trial passes with each retail game avail?  Or is there a trial for V:SoH somewhere.  I'd love to give the game a try, even if its got issues.  Never considered since I didn't have a PC that could run it earlier this year, now I do.

no free trial as of yet, but i believe theres a thingy called Trial Island released soon. This consists of an island where players can quest, group up etc. Its free i believe, but u gotta pay to play the full game obviously. Not sure when this is releases. Soon though i think

I'd Love a FFA PvP server. It would be nice to have the option at least. If you don't like it, then play on a regular server. I hope theres enough demand for one though...
Wow what a really useful link. Cheers mate. Will use that from now on. I passed for Oblivion on everything so looks like i'm good to go on AoC. Roll on October ;)
Hmm i'm still skeptical. This game looks to be great. Maybe better than Age of Conan maybe? But its been in development for so long and not much progress seems to have been made. I dunno. I'd love for this game to get finished but i dont think it will be. And i'm sure there are lots out there that would agree with me.
Skaven and Lizardmen would be nice. Dunno if it will happen though. Wood elves and Halflings would be cool also.
