Sweet. Thought i was gonna get flamed for that post. Man i hate biased crap like this. Really casts a shadow on the game for me. Any properly moderated forums you'd reccommend? I've just been using this website as a go-to guide...

I highly doubt that, unless you can quote them.  Open Beta is essentially a marketing ploy before a game goes live.  Beta is generally only opened up after a game is pretty close to being ready for release, otherwise it can ostracize the potential subscriber base.

Personally, I think the devs thought the game was close to ready with the zone 3 update, but clearly that's not the case.  These new changes are massive and need to be tested at least a month before open beta begins, IMO.

~Ripper

TaylorBalbi said it in one of the forum posts himself. I think it was the "So heres what we're doing blog" on the main site. Balance is secondary to getting overworld out. I really don't think they thought the game was ready tbh man. Devs who think the game is ready don't change core features of the game (in this case making the world persistant) Seems to me this idea was in the mill for a while.

Can somebody enlighten me as to why these forums seem a bit biased towards certain oppinions regarding AoC? Don't get me wrong, I Loved playing end of open beta. The game totally redeemed itself for me after I lost all faith during the beginning of OB. Miracle Patches do exist. Go figure. So I have every intention of playing AoC. But heres the thing.

It seems that a lot of the negative posts (even constructive negatism) are being deleted from this forum. Now, thats all well and good if it was just trolls, but it's not. Couple this with restricted access to official forums and this is just pure fuel to the conspiracy that has become Funcoms PR. It looks like they don't want people to get a full picture of the game before they buy. I for one love to hear all possible oppinions on a game before i buy. Now, I'm not saying that FC have a hidden agenda, but i can totally see why some people are goin nuts over this. It is a bit suspicious in all fairness. And MMORPG.com have been known to be very pro-AOC...i dunno. Thoughts. Is this just pure paranoia? Should i lay off the weed?

In my experience with MMOs, i have seen that adults are equally as immature as teenagers. Some of the most annoying and immature people i've met are adults. On the flipside, I've met and played with some great teenagers who were great players and a laugh to be around. So I'm cool with Teens playin. If they annoy me I'll just gank em. Same goes for the adults. Thats the beauty of FFA...

Yeah classes are very unbalanced at the moment. But devs know about this but want to get the game into open beta before balancing. Once overworld is fully implemented they're gonna get to work on balancing. And tbh if class balance is the only real problem they have in beta then they're doing well. Hopefully it works out for them as they seem to be cool guys and constantly interact with the testers and get their oppinion.

Only played a ranger. Found it a bit shallow. Thats when the client was actually working. If the game isn't broken at launch I'll prob play a necro. Heres hoping

Amen Brother. Tell it like it is!

I completely /agree with that statement. SWG DID ruin it for everyone concerened. There will never be another swg pre nge again, ever. Why? One Word "WoW" Everything will try to be like that since that is the magic sauce all the game companies which to reproduce. But so far have only gotten weak sauce. I miss SWG way too much. /sigh

Chaad Losan (Starsider)

Naw, I'm not buying it. I know a guy, very intelligent, hard working person... loves games. He played SWG and hated it (pre changes) because he said it felt like a job.

So sure, some people do miss a game like this but I'm not convinced that this really is the silver bullet. And quite frankly, if it was, you would have a lot of games like it.

I mean, heck Ryzom had a lot of these things and never did very well. Apparently SWG wasn't doing well enough because they tinkered with it.

A game like that is for people who want to live in another world. However, from what I've seen, most people just want to play a game and don't have time to while away hours on end just so they can kill a boss or find an ingredient.

Uh Ryzom failed for many reasons that had nothing to do with the fact that it was a sandbox. Take a look at that games history (ownership etc) and see what i mean.

I, and many others, would love to play in a virtual world again. Thats what an MMORPG means to me. This type of game will probably never have WoW subscriptions (due to the kiddie factor) but it would definately have a very healthy fanbase if it was done right. EVE is a sandbox (and doing very well) and the only reasons that game hasn't done even better is that its got a steep learning curve (which i like) and its more tactical than fast paced and it also requires a brain to play. Since AoC has basically bombed in my mind (will take a lot to convince me otherwise, but i'm still open to suggestion) I think i will go to EVE. I played this game for like 6 weeks and stopped because i didn't want to get too much into it because of AoC coming soon. Worst decision ever.

Blizzard must be laughing at how easy it is for them to make cash. They're possible the worst developer around when it comes to expansions. I mean, it takes them 1-2 years to release an expansion thats just the same old stuff in a different colour. Considering they're making billions off of the subscriptions alone one would think that they would be able to invest in more content for their loyal fans. Also one would think that they would offer the expansion as a free download considering the amount of money they make already. CCP, Turbine and many others already do this and they have much less subscriptions. This really shines a light of Blizzards greed.

Now, i'm not saying WoW is a bad game. I was obsessed with it until instanced BGs were released. Then i got over that and actually enjoyed BGs on my server. Then Battlegroups were introduced and completely wiped out all competitiveness between the Horde and Alliance on our server. Playing on a PvP server was the same as a normal server at this point. I never really got over this but i persevered. Then instanced Arenas killed the game for me. Sigh... I just can't look at Blizzard with respect anymore (like i did in the Diablo and early WoW days)

As a gamer the first thing that will attract me to an MMORPG is PvP. I just can't seem to get into a game that doesn't have PvP in some form. I love PvE too though but PvP has to be there for me to get my kicks. Anyways...

For all the people that have been looking for some good FFA PvP action, you may want to try Mythos once it's live. The game is getting a big overhaul and a lot of the instancing is gone so there is a more open world. This really opens up FFA PvP. Towns will be safe zones and dungeons will be private. But the world itself is FFA PvP. Also only Shadowlands characters can take part in PvP so this stops PvE chars levelling up safely and then coming over to Shadowlands to gank PvPers and then running back to PvE land. (where Shadowlands chars couldn't go before)

There is also looting in this game and as far as i know one of your items can drop when you die. Thats the plan at the moment anyways but that may change at launch. This really appeals to me and for anyone thats interested in item looting, you may want to give it a go. (items aren't as difficult to come by like in WoW so don't be too scared to give it a go) The game is in CB at the moment but you can apply on the site for entrance. Its not too difficult to get in. Open Beta starts soonish though. It'd be great to get a good PvP community up and running in this game.

Anyway this game looks to have a great future and i'm happy something is there to console me after i lost all my faith in AoC

With the new  'overland' system coming into Mythos i really feel this game can become great. Most of the instancing will be gone so the PvP in shadowlands will be much more fun. Also, towns are now safe zones so the PvP will be more manageable. Give it a go when it's out. Its free and better than any other ftp and lots of p2p i've ever played.

I'm so impressed with the direction this game is taking. The devs are actually working closely with the community and listening to them. These new changes are things that a lot of people showed interest in. Hopefully they can pull it off smoothly. I'm enjoying the CB at the moment and would advise anyone interested in this genre to give it a go when it goes live.

Also, i have never had a good experience with a FTP game and am an avid supporter of the subscription model. Mythos could change my view of FTP altogether as they seem to be doin a great job with it. As long as the cash shop items aren't overpowered when its implemented. Mythos is far far far better than HG:L is and in much better condition. Even though its still in closed beta. FLS are really redeeming thmselves with this game.

For all we know, despite the many complaints here, 85 or 90% of all OB testers are having few issues, and its only 10 -15 % who are.  While that is a lot of people to be sure, it still doesn't mean the entire game is in ruins.

Developers are claiming that folks with major issues are low, but I guess, your results can certainly vary.

Guess you just have to take a shot and see what happens.

Not really. Loads of people INGAME are complaining about performance. Not just on these forums. I'd hazzard a guess (from what i've seen) to say there is infact more people with major issues than not.  I'm just glad Europe are getting it after the States. I'll see how it goes for them before i buy

Well this is the biggest load i've ever heard. Most people complaining have mid to high end machines. I dunno where you're getting your info from...

I've a mid range machine. Not bad, not amazing. This game runs horribly on the lowest possible settings. Its definately something from the developers side. I've tried every little trick available to boost performance. Nothin changed. Theres some points in the game where i can get up to 30fps for about 20 mins (outside Tortage). I really seen that it can be an enjoyable game at these points. But between freezes and horribly long loading screens theres no way i'm buying this game at launch. I'll give it 2-3 months and see what the feedback is.

And for those of you that are not in Beta, don't fall for any cover up crap some of the devs and fanboys feed you. The game runs horribly on the MAJORITY of peoples machines. Not minority. Just look at these forums. Would a reliable game be getting flamed like this? No. The game isn't being flamed for being a bad game. Most people seem to enjoy the gameplay when they can play. Its all down to performance. Buying a game like this at launch shows companies that they can dish up loads of crap and people will still pay. Doesn't bode well for future projects...

Its a load of crap tbh man. I can't believe people are actually swallowing this. Do people honestly think this is whats going on? uh...??? We'll probably get something quite similar to this build at launch. Funcom aren't gonna magically change these problems in 2 weeks. why would they fork up an old peice of crap to 50000 potential customers? Theres waaaay too much bad things been floating around this game lately. I'm beginning to see why the NDA wasn't lifted.

And i'm not just being a doomsayer. I really wanted this game to be a success as i would have loved to get into a good mmorpg again. I'm just not willing to pay to play Vanguard 2...maybe in a year if its fixed.

PS if this game turns out to be great at launch ill gladly eat these words! Its just too much to hope for though...

yet another one who desn't understand beta testing, stress testing, and scientific process.

better get some salt an pepper man, 'cause those words are gopnna taste like shit.

Same old arguement. Someone makes a valid point = They dont understand the beta process. lol...you honestly think funcom sent out this crap build on purpose? knowing that it would create loads of bad publicity? spare me...
