When I was first getting into SWG, a few months before I joined beta2, the devs were talking about the career possibilitires. Of course they Tasos:ed it, talkin gabout the endless possibilities you had and how you could do anything. They even talked about "owning your own bar" and that was my goal. I was thinking about having a bar in Mos Eisley, a tired rusty droid in the back room creating the food and drink, myself in the bar handling the costumers and having a nice side income by buying and selling smuggled goods underneath the nose of the Empire.

Of course, beta came and I quickly understood that was impossible.

But in a western game? Having a bartender with a pianist in the corner and a shotgun under the bar... It is a flipping must!

Yup, I would be there... Now go build!

Whenever I hear Tasos speak about Darkfall and its qualities I can't help but compare him to Napoleon Dynamite. Specifically the part of the movie when he says "Yeah, it's probably the best drawing I have ever made. I spent three hours on the shading of your upper lip". It is just spot on...

Hearing his fan base defend his every move, always make me think of the uncle.... flexing his small arm muscles, with a bad hair piece and nothing underneath.

The rest of us... We are just the audience. Watching them, laughing at them, finding them quite sympathetic with their obvious flaws but at the same time.. very glad they are not our friends.

Maybe not a game as far in development as this group, but I remember Mythica with a fond heart. You do not play the son of a god, you play a God. Sounded really fun, the demo videos were amazing, then when Mythic came with their lawyers and told them to change the name or be sued for trying to take advantage of "Mythics sterling reputation" they deciced to cancel the game. Or something like that, I remember the dev posts but not the whole story.

Mythics sterling reputation.... Something tells me, it would be ok to make a game called Mythica today.

No... I am not 15 year old emo. I work, I have a new house, got a baby on the way... Life is grand. What I do play MMOs for is to relax. Some people drink, some peole smoke, other take drugs and some build big model railways. I play MMOs. NOw, MMOs are fast becoming too simple, too straightforward and not complex enough, so slowly turning into work.. Good hting is, singleplayer games are quickly becomng more complex, harder, more advanced and less tedious, so.. Until mmos once again turn out to be worth the extra money.. I rather stick to them

Ok here is what I found out. When released in the States, MInes of Moria box came with Shadows of Angmar included and the first month free. It said so at least on the lotro homepage and on Amazon.

In Europe though, with Codemasters, MInes of moria came alone and you had to buy Shadows of Angmar separate. I noticed this last week, when I decided to try out the free month and went out and bought both of them.  I am sure someone will come in here and say differently, but that is my first hand experience, updated last thursday.

As I have said the last year... Enough with the fanatic praise of a game you know nothing about.Release the bugger, THEN come in here and try to flame anyone saying "hey, it's not as good as you think it will be".

Seriously... You are 21 years old. You were not even old enough to use a keyboard or write your name when MMOs started... So please do not come to an MMORPG site and start a thread like you are the official authority in MMO history and the rest of MMO players of the world are kids, ok? I was there when MMOs started... I have been playing them all for 15-20 years now... I have worked together with several of the heavy contenders in the business (and honestly, some that could not contend with a wet paper bag)

To quote the developers of EQ II for example, two months after launch of WoW: "I play and enjoy WoW a lot, and we see now a lot of things that we could have done differently in EQ II"

look again chester its there in print or do WOWboys only understand Amazon.com stuff and Xfire numbers? Go to lotro.com and you can see it from the main site if you want more official proof.

WotLK is 40 dollars comes with just Xpac not CD's from previous versions and no free game time, Lotro comes with 30 days free and you can install the game and all updates from day 1.

Edit- Sorry Blizzard does not have a "complete" version yet as it was all they could do to get you guys 10 more levels and 3 endgame raids and 1 new class in 4+ years. (the flavor of the cool aid is?)

I think the MMO scene must die before it can evolve and rise like a Phoenix. It is stuck in a rut like no other, nohting new is coming onto the scene and peoples biggest hopes are games that cater to what MMOs were 10+ years ago. MMOs have not changed in any way in 5+ years all the while singleplayer games are running past them like sprinters beside a turtle, in terms of complexity, size and entertainemtn value. Today, you find the advanced games among singleplayers and the simple bubblegum crap among MMOs. Completly opposite compared to the birth of the MMO market (when they wanted to create more mature games for adults, and not everything aimed towards kids.) Its a fast downward spiral and people are jumping this genre. So.... It needs to die... They need to continue to make their mistakes and copy old concepts, then fail and die. They need to spend millions and years on game that can nto hold the attention of an average gamer for more than a few weeks, all the while the same gamers play a singleplayer game for 3 years... Then just die... In limbo... where all old ideas have failed... someone will rise up with a new generation of ideas, of creative thinking, get his inspiration form other sources than "what exists today" and then we will for the first time see real change, real evolution. The computer game market almost died like that when consoles started to get more advanced... It was all doom and gloom... Until the makers decided to not try to copy the consoles.. but instead do games that the consoles could not. More advanced and more detailed than jumping and shooting. It brought us to the games we play today.... We have the same problem now. I think the sollution is the same.

Make something others can not... and you will find the players. Copy what already exists... and people have already done it, they wont do it again. I have faith in CCP... But thats me. They really created something completly new last time. My hope is that they try to do it again, instead of jumping on the WoW train.

I loved both games and I am the CCP/WHite Wolf collaboration is the only MMO I am looking forward to today...

But the voice acting on Redemption... I loved the game, do not take me wrong.. but the voice acting... I laughed my socks off. They must have bought the actors on Ebay... I actually played it through once just to hear the "Yayyyy, he saved the city! Our hero!" one more time.

Anyway, back to the real world.. where normal people live.

Ban anyone from forum talking about SWG like a model MMO. It did not work properly from beta 2 and forward, it was never that good, all NGE did was make it worse. if people think that is the best evah.. then they are religious fanatics and could not stay constructive and helpful under any cirumstance. Build an MMO based on KotOR and make it fun... People start spewing SWG ideas.. just ban them immediatly and no regrets.
