I think there's a huge difference between animations that are standstill (like dancing/sitting) compared to animations that happen while controlling your character (like running animations / attacking while moving). Ive seen a video involving a Boss that literally walks up a ramp sideways and takes a silly swipe at you and it looks awkward |

The Hunter: The Most Realistic Hunting Game Online
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/02/09 11:09:44 AM
It doesnt have any of the multiplayer (Hunt with other hunters) yet, and that alone is a big enough reason I havent cared about it past games like my "Deer Hunter the Season 2005" It also charges monthly for a hunting(Warden) license so you can use the other weapons past the rifle and other deer besides mule deer will spawn. --I dont feel like I own the game, I feel like im paying to borrow a single player game in beta-- The required browser based interface for dealing with your hunter/launching the game feels cheap/slow and clunky. --You cant really even customize your look past choosing premade face templates and getting a randomly generated hunter name/not your username.-- It was a dissapointment.
=I keep my eyes on it constatly at BIGGAMELODGE but its no where near complete enough for me to consider paying for anything= |

If the game still requires the whole "Well fed" aspects than I dont care what they did to make it better. -If your hunger meter stills go down when your not even logged into the game, then the game can go shoot itself- |

Chronicles of Spellborn.. triumph of design over hype
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 4/25/09 1:03:24 PM
They only let you get to about lv 7.9 as a trial playthrough, gives you 2 levels of actually being one of the 3 archtypes split offs (which each archtype has 3 different class varients) I liked the skill deck/roller combat mechanic, it was a interesting system. Same with the partly manual aim combat, but this and the dodge mechanic was a bit wonky to me.. -Melee mobs run up to where you were standing and whiff if you move from them before the animation begins (other wise youll take the dmg no matter how far you move away). Some mobs are a bit short, requiring you to angle to down alot in order to hit them properly,, using your skill even a little bit off the target is a full blown miss- (even if your sword looks like it went right through the mob). =I was on a old Asherons Call board when I got wind of the game, but its not something Im really serious about= -Ive done the whole "Quest giver" go kill or talk to this person and return for xp dealeo enough as it is in other games, while being forced through level minded zones- Was a fun little game to 7.9 but I dont really care to go any farther as Ive been down this road before. |

Unless he is drdrezt1 on the darkfall boards its not even his picture. --It was posted on the beta boards-- |

You should be talking to Adventurine about the NDA not MMORPG.com. they just enforce the NDA principles, they didnt make them. if its from the beta its going to be deleted here until the NDA lifts. |

I keep hearing about FoM system as one with lot of potential...

It had me hooked in the beginning of open beta to the first Milestone patch, before they started changing so many things for the worse. then I decided they changed so much stuff to be so completely aggravating that I was not going to pay monthly for it -Ive only watched as the game released,, and slowly killed itself- till now when it hopefully attempts to rise from the ashes of failure.. I'm still not even sure about their current plans (given the current updates 1-2-3) and the NEXEON guys who are handling servers =I don't trust the integrity of any of the well known FOM players, they were mostly exploiting/corrupt scum.= ============ Abuse of power ingame and out of game has always been an issue with FOM, and I dont see any methods to stop it.

Its not as advanced or as "good" as some might make you believe. -- As a rank 4 or up in a faction you could set up missions for your faction members to join up for exp/credits -in the end, missions really come down to 30mins to 1hour or more of walking around a colony till its over. then you get payed. =sure fighting can happen in that time frame, but its still a "join missions, wait till times over and get payed kinda deal"= =The credit payouts on missions was garbage though -was a lot better when faction leaders could set the payout options- =Experience only got you to rank 3 (all ranks after besides faction leader r7 required a higher rank to promote you) -your total experience just kinda shows that you've been on a lot of missions- =exp is pretty much useless, not that anyone wants it to be use full=

2008 is a bit early to expect a release, given whats come out so far, with the beta being in "signup" phase still. And still being in their Alpha test (its not really a closed beta) right now with so called "Professional testers" -I'm not convinced if it does get rushed out this year that it will of been at least properly tested and everything is going to work as planned- (but it wouldn't be an MMO if everything worked like you expect it to) |

The only thing your side really effects, is the quests(with their rewards) that you participate in when leveling, and who you communicate with -since you cant talk to the other side-. -Crafting is the same on either side -you just get to talk to different trainers- -Some areas are also more quest oriented with certain sides -like the barrens- -Also there are a few neutral towns as well that alliance and horde can take the same quests (you cant party up together, but you just might find yourself in STV waiting on a spawn with them cause you need it to) |

Darkfall fans trashing hype meters?

Yes actually they are. -its fully listed out in the Darkfall official forums that they are hyping up their game while de-hyping others-

This here is an example of someone who knows nothing about the difference between Graphics and Animation. -and is a bit too fast on the "troll" calls -Direct X 10 has no bearing on animations. -He commented that the "video" was not polished, is this so irritating to your views that you would call him a troll because of it? (I mean he didn't come out and say "Darkfall is vapor, or Darkfall sucks...". but then again I don't hold onto jaded views that everything is perfect) ========== I cant wait till Darkfall comes out -If it comes out- (Indy companies have a habit of being killed off sometimes -mostly due to bad managing of the funds-), But there hasn't been a decent sandbox since SWG (Before the CU and the NGE) and it really needs to be in the MMO light again (the sandbox game) And as excited as I am about Darkfall and what it could possibly bring to the table, I'm not wearing a pair of "rose tinted" glasses that make everything look perfect, because the last thing a game needs is a lack of criticism for its faults. (you cant improve a game if you think its perfect) |

The video had some shadows cast from trees, but I'm actually not sure I saw much cast by buildings/the environment -perhaps theres a player shadow and structure shadow option?-

They certainly help it though in some cases.
my biggest issue is the horrendous animations and effects, nothing looks believable -the walking/running and jumping all look fake -they are not fluid at all- -The explosions are laughable -there is no power behind the explosions- -The spells look like they have no backing what so ever -the few buffs were just colored circles around the character -nothing special.. and the bolts were just bolts of magic -hell little balls of magic that looked laughable- ========= At least in Asherons call the spells had effects -your acid bolt trailed particles behind it- -your fireballs trailed smoke and the hit effects were worth it- -your weapons could have fire/ice/lightning/acid and had particles that represented those effects -like dripping acid or flaming swords- ========= Now I saw in the video some glowing weapons (the yellow glow/blue i think as well) but that was it. |

I am here to get input from the community here. If you enjoyed old school and sandbox style games, then your response is highly encouraged!

I'm going to take a stab and guess that one of the old players with this is Elgarl -maker of El-Tank-
I had read before about him and an AC emulator for when and if turbine killed off AC, or any other means to try and use ac related material
-justs sounds too familiar- |

Fom didn't have enough content, and the game before even hitting Milestone 1 was getting stale. A lot of Foms charm was solely based on "what if" in terms of potential for the game and was in no way a "great" game. Perhaps its because it was so focused on player content (if you can call it that) that the game died, because its community for the most part is and was garbage -as fully seen at Ikoru's forums- |
