Heh, I still don't get it. I understand people are familar with World of Warcraft and all. But why do people keep saying this game is just another clone. Lets put it this way, what RIFT has most other games also have. Questing, the grind, instances, crafting and the like. All these things are what make up almost any mmo you see now, and will see in the future. Every game is going to try to bring something new. It's not a clone, it's called the traditional RPG model for mmorpg's. World of Warcraft didn't make this model, they just refined it. And it's really not a bad thing. This is how mmorpgs are going to continue to be created and played, its a model that works. People looking for dynamic's are going to be hurt. While the technology is there, it's just not feasible in an online environment. Well it is, but your talking about having servers capped at the bare minimum. I'm talking at most probably like 100 people per server for it to work right and run right while allowing even the most aged computers to run the game. Thats the thing right there also. People like us are what hold games back from being really dynamic. And no game company or investor would put 300 million into a game just to watch 100 people play it. People need to quit being couch developers and start being consumers and realize that it's going to take a long time before you see the standerd model change. SWTOR, RIFT, GW2 and any other game isn't going to change it. You won't see a drastic change for quite sometime. Like I stated, the tech is there, we just aren't. Not everyone has 3 grand to drop on a top of the line computer. And developers don't have one global system they design for like consoles do. You want innovation, your 360 or PS3 is it. I know it's hard to swallow, but once you get past that, maybe you can start to enjoy what you have. And if what you have is not good enough for you, then maybe its time to move on. I enjoy RIFT very much so, not because it's a clone but because the world has some life in it. It may not be the most dynamic game, but it does things right by giving me the standerd model plus some and offering me some dynamic events on top of it. I also enjoy the storyline and what it has to offer. Cheers and Merry Xmas!!! |

General: 2010 Awards: Biggest News Story
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/07/10 6:25:44 PM
I voted for Gods and Heroes for one simple reason. It was voted best game at show at a certain event a couple years back and got cancelled soon after. Then out of nowhere some unnamed company who made a Iphone/Andriod app picks it up and re-develops it. Unusual to say the least but nevertheless surprising. |

Why do I have to buy WotLK to play Cataclysm?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 12/07/10 6:19:25 PM
Originally posted by lunatis Exactly what Blizzard needs to do. Whenever they come out with an Xpac it should be priced at 49.99 and include all previous content. Why they dont switch to this model is beyond ridiculous. I guess they love churning out game boxes and serial codes, because in the end all you need is the 4 keys + the newest client. |

Bunny Hopping: Does it make MMO's look silly?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/26/10 1:38:44 PM
I think people tend to forget we are playing fantasy driven games, where things you dream of should be possible. Even if you try to make a game seem realistic, you can't. Because let's face it, realistic is boring hence the reason we play games in the first place. Seriously, if I had to play a game where I went to work, drove home, woke up, fed my kids and what not. I would freaking cry, seriously shed tears. I doubt anyone would code a game that way because that's just plain boring. Look at how slow we walk. Would you really want that in a game. I'd take bunny hopping any day, because it fits. |

We are getting WoWablo 3 instead of Diablo 3
General Gaming « General Discussion 10/24/10 11:31:26 PM
First off Diablo 3 is Diablo 3, not WoW. Gameplay is alot different that what you will get with WoW. That being said, people need to understand this game semi-resembles WoW and pretty much every game Blizzard does because of one huge thing, it's called low-poly count. Blizzard does this so all there games are compatible across almost all systems. If you were expecting something else like high end graphics etc., you will not get that from Blizzard. And to be honest, I think it's a good thing. Blizzard is a business, and business's like to make money and profit. You can't profit from a MMO if your selling yourself short by reducing your playerbase because of computer specs. Take a step back and see it from that perspective, and you will see why every game Blizzard churns out looks similar. And it will never change, so are we done here? Or shall we make more posts about how much Diablo is like WoW. Also, just for giggles. When Blizzard made WoW, they did use alot of the systems Diablo uses such as sets, skills, and skill trees. It's pretty common for game companies to share systems across multiple games. Cheers! |

Originally posted by Ceridith Not every developer is gone from the old Blizzard North. But the main ones did leave and go to Arena.net. One of the main developers also tried starting up the failed company who produced Hellgate/Mythos. Seriously though, just because they left doesn't mean crap. Blizzard has some of thee best talent in the world in developers. If they didn't, then every time one of them leaves they wouldn't be instantly grabbed up by another. Shoot, there has been times were they tried to scout there developers which was against the law at one point in time. Diablo 3 will be a great game and I will be purchasing it. I've played since d1 and still play d2 to this day. Let's quit with the whole, "Nobody is left from the old team!" though, because there is. And the one's who left were replaced by the same if not better talent. Here's an idea though, get into development if you think you have the chops. |

I don't play much anymore due to time constraints with work and personal life but ... It seem's people are made at the wrong people. GPotato did nothing wrong to the game. Astrum is the one's who tore this game apart. Even some GPotato staff didn't neccesarily like the changes, but they have a contract that they have to live upto or no game. This is why I don't enjoy f2p games. Not because they are bad, but because changes come from some other company and the publishers have to deal with it. At the very most they can send them emails about what the community thinks. But that really doesn't change much. GPotato did get some things changed slightly such as prices, and incense being added to a daily quest. Also allowing tradeable bags. The thing is the process is slow and can take months. So in essence, if you want to hate, go to the Russian boards where the developers chat it up and send them some pm's. I think GPotato is doing alot to please the crowd especially with the giveaway they had. They are atleast attempting to alleviate a bad situation. Now as for Astrum, since they took over development with help from Mail.ru, they have litterly took a great game and made it just like every other f2p game out there, which is heavily dependant on a cash shop. They mind as well make it p2p and forgo the shop. Anyways, CHEERS! |

(Required Viewing) Fatigue System is Awesome!
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 9/13/10 11:05:29 AM
I have never played this game nor cared to try it, but after the constant reading about it and this system. It seem's like a system that is very restrictive. I'm not sure why a developer would put a system in place that controls the xp gain regardless of playing one main class or 2 sub classes. Kind of shocked people are okay that a developer is telling you how to play your character and your okay with. I kind of get why a system like this would help everyone progress at the same level, but shouldn't it be up to the player as to how they want to develop there character? If they want to gimp themselves, they should be allowed to. This whole scenario sounds very Castero'ish if you know what I mean. Live this way, do this, eat that, spend here, dont buy there. Whatever floats your boat tho. Enjoy! :) |

Dark Age of Camelot: Who's With Me? DAoC 2?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/06/10 6:55:05 PM
Don't also forget that DaoC had shared dungeons when pveing, meaning there was more than just your group there. Also they had DF which altho was mostly pve when you owned the rights to it, instantly became pvp zone until your side cleared the beginning. The nice twist is that there was a back way which could be taken to sneak up or stealth farm seals down a hall that was empty. But i think my honestly best times were exploring SI, mushroom farming in SI, or doing the raids on bosses in DF. Don't get me wrong, i loved the RvR, but PVE is what i enjoy the most. |

Gods and Heroes had a lot of exploration in it. They had quests that made you explore, hidden easter eggs, and even riddles that had you exploring to find items and these gave rewards including peices of armor for a set. Sadly the game never came out of beta. Waiting now on what Heatwave will do with the game since it bought its tools and game assets. DaoC was a good game to explore too, especially ToA and SI, but both expansions never worked well and the game is mostly about RvR now as ToA code was removed I believe. |

Torchlight: The Plot Thickens
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/29/10 7:06:19 PM
Originally posted by Xiro Your half right and wrong. The team that left Blizzard was Blizzard North, only a few of it's members joined in when Flagship started up. When they started they were making Hellgate and had a side team that was working on thier second game, a top down style game named Mythos. When the company went sour and broke off, Mythos was picked up by some Asian developer. The guys who ran that studio decided to start up this company and signed with PWE or Perfect World Entertainment to help publish and develop this game and the MMO counterpart. So if your folowing that, then not all if any of the Blizzard North team is working on this game. I think the only major player was Roper and he works on Star Trek and CO now. The real meat of Blizzard North resides in Arenanet hence the resembelence in names which made GW1 and soon to be released GW2. So, maybe someone else should do there homework eh? |

This is such non-sense. They have already stated multiple times why they post other types of games on this website other than mmorpg's. If it needs to be said again then so be it, its because it's relavent to gaming in general, and most people play more than just rpg's. If this site only contained information about mmorpg's then it would be a very dead site. MMORPG news doesn't come out every day, so there has to be filler news that is relavent to gaming. Seriously people, take a moment and think about what your going to type before you actually hit the post button. I think that is all that needs to be said and this topic can be closed now as there is already topics about this situation. END |

Torchlight: The Plot Thickens
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/29/10 6:42:23 PM
It's obvious what this pic is. They are going to announce that the MMO version will not be top down. It shouldn't come as a suprise either, since Mythos, their former game before the company went bye bye was working on making Mythos the same way. So amazing isn't it, especially when they rewrote the same freaking engine. This is some sad attempt at advertising a game's view, when most people who play it or knew the companies staff already knew this was going to happen. |
