Daoc was the number one MMo in the world before Trials of Atlantis came along and turned it into a quasi PVE game.

PvE wasn't the issue with DaoC or Trails of Atlantis, the issue was the grind and the leveled gear in RvR.

Now I have to say this, I enjoy some aspects of Gods and Heroes. It definatly has a world you can explore and does offer some rewards for exploring. I do remember the game in IT beta under Perpetual having quests that did involve reading and figuring out certain puzzles that rewarded you. If you do some exploring around the zones, each one should have a secret little area which is usually hard to get to that has a vault door. And the puzzles had something to do with those. This is what I originally liked about gods and heroes. I also loved the combat which is still pretty good. But to hear Sun sit here and tell us that you picked up this title, to in essence, play it safe and get subs is a bit put off. How could you even pitch that to an investor. I'm sure nobody is looking for you guys to do something earth shattering with this game. You can however change things, even small things that would make this title stand out.

For one, remove the zoning in/out of towns. There simply is no need for this. Secondly, take a pro-active approach to your dungeons. How about make them public. You can keep them instanced and still achieve this. It gives your game a way to become social. You know how many people I meet running dungeons in DaoC and EQ because of this little feature no one does anymore. Plus it actually makes your world still feel like a world. You can always enlarge the dungeons and add choke points for camps and downtime. Like someone stated earlier, the social aspect is being ruined. People are no longer interacting just to meet someone new. When I first played MMO's, I didn't have friends who started with me, nor did I really need them. I found them by the game's design, interaction. Automatically placing me in a group, creating content that is to easy, placing people in instances others can't join. Your removing the little peice of interaction that made games enjoyable.

Anyways I'm ranting here, time for bed. Just do us a favor HeatWave, don't play it safe. It's the worst thing you could do.

Open Grouping > Star Trek Online did this, and it was terrible, but REQUIRED in Rift to do anything of note worthyness.

The Ascended Soul System > DAOC did this but in a LESS mobile sense. Not only is this not new, but the way it was designed favors "Flavour of the Month" builds to frequent the game.

Invasions as Content -> Extremely repetitive content that becomes boring, and dull after a short amount of time. Not exactly something done right here Bill.

Leveling Through PvP -> Star Trek Online did this too, as did DAOC, and the problem that cropped up in both is friend (or people with multiple accounts) farmed the crap out of their own characters. There are not enough stopgaps in-place currently to balance this feature.

Mounts at Level One -> Numerous developers have already gone over this, and explained why this is a bad idea. Rift shows the problem quite clear, and that problem is that your mount becomes worthless. If it takes nothing to get the mount worth doing, it's not worth having. Who cares if you get from A to B faster, you did it like everyone else did so you're still essentially walking there. What's the point of even having to get somewhere? What's the point of even having mounts? You're ALL going the same speed, just as if you were walking. Pointless, pointless, pointless, fluff.

I'm sorry Bill, but you've presented nothing that could be considered "Things Rift did right" :(.

No offense, but that's why it's called an opinion. Just like what you did, you quoted him then stated your opinion. Neither are right or wrong, they reflect how you see and enjoy the game. Not saying you did anything wrong, but neither did Bill. Not everyone has to agree with what you think though. And that last line you wrote pretty much trys to force that.

What do you do when you do something wrong (so many do's! =-] )? Blame it on someone else, human nature. Nothings wrong with ZAM, it's human error that people just won't fess upto. And a rumor is a rumor, it gives people something to talk about. The truth is something to worry about. But in this case, your fine with using ZAM or any other database. PC protection should be something your doing already, regardless of wether ZAM is infected or not.

it only seems genius and wonderfull but if you think about it carefully it's quite the opposite. at the beginning you think you have incredible customisation possibilites and endless choices but the fact is that it will be impossible to balance so many possible builds especially in pvp. in the end there will be 2 or 3 insanely OP builds that EVERYONE will use because otherwise you wont be viable. you think WoW was unbalanced with 1 (some classes 2) optimal pvp specs? try balancing 50 or 100 possible builds.

look no further then DF for this. there are no classe in DF, you have complete freedom of choosing ANY possible skill you want to train, and build your character ANY way you want. there is no game that is actually quite as open to customisation as DF, but in the end there are always 2/3 builds that are OP and EVERYONE ends up picking those up. it's just the nature of things.  the same thing will happen to Rift. just watch and see.

Not sure why you posted this, it doesn't negate that fact that there still is 100+ diff builds. And I doubt it will come down to two or three FoTM builds. Especially since your talking about PVP, which has its own soul. Also to note, not everyone goes for OP builds, it usually boils down to only the minority hardcore gamers going for them. So yes, they system offers a lot of flexibility.

Handful of others? Dude you are fucking clueless, once again I direct you to the official RIFT forums and the severe amounts of people who HAD TO DOWNLOAD FROM A TORRENT PUT UP BY A POSTER, just to get uncorrupted data which the updater2 was sending out (approx. 2gb in total).

But sure, you seem to have no problems so noone else has any problems right ;)

M

The fact that there is 25+ servers almost all full with a que time means your problem is in the minority. The forums does not represent the whole population. And if I were you, I would stay away from downloading a torrent and find a better way to fix the issue. All you need is to get a virus or a keylogger while your trying to fix the issue. And the whole moving the asset folder has nothing to do with the beta client. The work around was for people who were downloading the launch client and it somehow stopped midway due to connection lost. Since there is no pause button, this workaround allowed you to start off where you left off.

More news is coming in about this park!

"Are tickets will be bought like this. Buy your ticket to get your basic games and rides, then if you want to get on the super rides you will need to purchase 3 additional expansion tickets at the booth. Also to note, no humans over 85 aloud due to our cap."

"You will be asked to eat before you tackle any rides as we do not want people to die from long ride times."

"We will have a dedicated LFR channel for anyone looking to partner up for some duo/group/raid rides."

And last but not least:

"You must be taller than a gnome to enter!"

I honestly wish they would bring back open-ended dungeons. This would alleviate the problem some what for finding groups. DaoC did it pretty good. Can't find a guild group, run into the dugeon and see if you can find one. For those that don't understand, open-ended means allowing multiple groups in a dungeon with no instancing. I honestly don't know why MMO's quit doing this to be honest. Seemed like an excellent way to meet up with people.

No offense, but these are forums, not advertisement boards. You want to advertise, make one and put it through Admob or Google.

A minor nitpick... Darkness Falls wasn't an instance. It was a massive open ended dungeon that anyone in your realm could enter. You also had relics to fight over. But what really did make DAoC work was the 3 realm system and how the game made your entire realm feel united in hatred against your enemy. Alliances were also key, yes, but 3 different exclusive realms was THE key.

Darkness Falls was an instance on your homeland, meaning you had to zone in. In Frontier you could enter from the backside. And yes it was open-ended, almost every dungeon in DaoC was open ended allowing multiple groups and people in. Something that I trully miss in dungeons now-a-days. And three realms were key on certain servers. Some servers only had 2 realms to work with, as the third was severly out numbered. People just like to act like that didn't happen because they went to servers without these issues. ToA really ruined this on certain servers with this issue. DaoC had it's issues, some of those the same as two faction games have now. Character imbalances also still plague the game, always will. A two faction RvR system can work, a 3 can work, so can a four five and six. It really doesn't matter how many realms or factions you work with, it's the system behind it that has to work. I was a strong DaoC player for about 3 years, 50 Druid and Animist on Lancelot. I enjoyed every bit of my time playing DaoC, but I'm not going to sit here and be blind to the truth just because I liked it's RvR. It has and will have issues, so will a 2 faction/realm system. But they both can work.

In the latest potcast. The devs have mentioned that they wil concidering rvr to the game if people ask for it. This pretty much started a huge topic about this

Feel free to add your opinion on this! and let your voice be heard

http://forums.riftgame.com/showthread.php?75055-quot-we-will-add-RVR-if-the-players-want-it-quot-...-well-let-them-know-here-that-we-want-it

RvR is not something you can tack onto a game. RvR is a primary game goal, where the lore and zones reflect the conflict between the different realms. The entire game swirls around the realm conflict. You need 2(3 prefable) fully fleshed out realms that can't interact with one another beyond fighting. You need keeps and persistant conquest in the frontier zones, and some kind of meta goal. You need siege weapons. It can't be instanced.

They're gonna just add all that at a whim?

I wouldn't say at a whim. There servers and game itself are already setup for this. Honestly, you don't need 3 realms. Two would be just fine as long as you have something to setup alliances with. Remember DaoC, the big thing wasn't the realms, but more so the allainces that made RvR good. It created a better grouping system and allowed small guilds to team up and overtake larger single guilds that zerged. They just need to make sure the RvR has a goal that is worth it. For DaoC it was Darkness Falls, a premier grind instance that was huge and allowed the realm who owned it and it's players beneficial gear and money to be made. I mean, I can't even remember how many jewlery boxes I made for people. I say go for it Trion.

I chuckled at the fact the David Allen was the reviewer. I guess that's his new job? Wasn't a bad review or anything, just odd that it's him who's writing it. Especially after the fiasco with Alganon and what he wanted that game to be.

Edit: I take it your David Allen... hmmm

Assassin/BladeDancer will be what I go with. Heavy in Assassin for improved stealth, and slip away which is fun to play with and such a useful skill. I know I pissed off quite a few warfronts when I would come in behind the pack and drop thier casters instantly. Just for them to turn around and find I had vanished. Light in BladeDancer so far, as I only got to level 35, but did get dex bonus. Plus, soloing with the class is a breese when your mowing down your targets and can get item pickups with ease. I might make a paladin-ish character somewhere down the line.

I won't comment on what you quoted, just what you stated. Regardless of his opinion, it doesn't make yours any better, especially with stuff like this. It doesn't matter if there is a shiny ? mark, or some brilliant hidden text scheme where you have to actually talk to the quest giver to get him to give you anything. It's about enjoying the game you play. Try debating your subject, and quit getting people to troll your threads. Sorry to go off-topic here, but this crap needs to stop. Cmon Zaxx, just cmon. Your also not helping state your case, if you have one that is.

To me, a lot of this sounds like instant gratification. Something that plagues this genre and our society. People just want things handed to them instead of working for them. And before someone quotes me and says, "Games shouldn't be a job", working for something doesn't have to be considered a job if what your working for is fun. The grind is how you want to see it and accomplish it. With RPG's, you can use it as roleplaying. Thats kind of what has gotten lost in games today. No one wants to use there brain a little and try making things up on the fly. Take that grind, use your brain, and create an adventure out of it. Take it this way, everyday I make around 200+ calls to some of the same people, which some would find truly boring. But I make it fun by changing my voice, talking in different languages, doing the repeater, and tons of other stuff. It makes what seems boring, something enjoyable. I think what more people need to do, especially the young generation, is put to use that thing that sits inside your cranium.

I got bored.

Just want to comment on the OP. When I played beta 6, all I did was the RIFT system. Sure some of the RIFTS were the same but not all. Me a level 30 rogue, and a level 22 cleric were RIFT jumping and found several different types of rifts. Take for instance the fire RIFTS. We encountered 4 diff versions varing from all solo, ones that started out solo but spawned elites at the end, to ones that only spawned elites, to ones the spawned a named mob and solo mobs at each level. The dynamics isnt in were they spawn, but how they spawn. Also noted that higher level ones can spawn raid mobs and raid invasions as stated by the developers. Some of it has to do with the amount of people in the area and the level. So in fact they are dynamic. Just wanted to point that small little fact out to you. Cheers!

You can attack wardstones, and the side with the wardstone can also level them up via new quests. If it's not working, it's probably a bug. You can read the patch notes on the forum, they state they should be attackable and upgradable. It also states that this starts in Scarlet Gorge, so maybe the lower level ones got removed from being attackable. You should post this information on the RIFT forums, you wont get much developer information from here. With the way they fix things, I wouldn't doubt they already have a patch about to be deployed.

Hmm, sounds pretty cool. Nice to see two great companies come together for some deals.

Game lobbys also are applied to the 500+ count. So if the game has a lobby, aka Battle.net that can hold more then 500+ people, or if the game has a central area that consists of more than 500 people then it's on here and considered a MMO.

There will be more than two raids persay, Trion stated RIFTS will spawn raid mobs at higher levels and also invasions could spawn a raid boss which was seen during the end of each beta. I think this game will offer the best for soloists and group play. With both sides having plenty to do.

I will state this again, IPod Touch man, not the IPhone is Apple's gaming platform. Apple has already stated they want to branch away from the IPhone being game centric and be more about enterprise and daily phone usage. And we don't really know what the 6th generation IPod Touches will offer GPU or even tech wise other than rumors. Sony has already showed that they lack common sense when it comes to delivering the goods, hence the abysmal PS3 and PSP numbers and there profits. You may want to calm down before you eat your words. And I also mentioned Andriod is about to make a huge blast at gaming on handheld phone devices with NVidia, just watch. Read up on Tegra and check the roadmap for NVidia in this field. Then lets have this discussion.

Also to note, the PSP2 will be able to play old PSP games through thier store which won't fully launch when the PSP2 does. And no ones really knows how the whole 3g will work with carriers and who will support it, since you have to have a carrier to get the 3g service, which is dumb because WIFI is alot faster than 3g and LTE tech is about to launch which will make 3g useless.
