I am not going to comment on the game in any form because I do not play it, but I will say this to the miss-informed. Arenanet used to be solely owned company, but lacked any publishing department and funding for it. So they went and sought out NCSoft who in turn became there publisher. Eventually NCSoft saw a good thing, and invested within Arenanet and now do own part of the company. This can clearly be seen by there investment portfolio. Does NCSoft control what Arenanet does? Yes and NO. NCSoft has given full development over to Arenanet because they know they can do there job well and have done so over many years. Do they control the money that comes into Arenanet? NO, because NCSoft is investors and publishers. All NCSoft does is take there publishing cut, usually around 30%, and move on. Any other funds comes solely from there investment. Investing doesn't mean you control the game. Only that you have some say so on the board of investors which usually deals with upper management and making sure profits stay up and not down. So in a nutshell for those who do not like to read and need a one liner: NCSoft does nothing to GW2 but take there publishing cut. Arena.net takes the rest and is in full development control over GW1/GW2 and any other game Arena.net decides to make. Think were done here, and just a lil side note. All this was covered back before launch when NCSoft became there publisher. Did you people quickly glance over that thread, because I still remember it and I don't even play the game. |

Blizzard's Incompetence Strikes Again - Gold Duplication on RMAH
General Discussion « Diablo 3 5/11/13 6:40:38 PM
And remember to read the TOS, as it states Blizzard can and will ban or lock your account if you use the Auction House as an investment catalyst which to me sounds kind of odd. The TOS also states at anytime Blizzard can take thier currency from you if its loaded into there Battle.net service and they do not even have to tell you why since, hence you agreed to the TOS. Best way around anything, either: A. Do not use the RMAH or B. Transfer all cash to Paypal since technically they can't re-withdraw money from Paypal without your consent. Blizzard has acknowledged the AH was a mistake but is not planning on removing it anytime soon since people have invested so much into it. See what I did there? Now read that first sentence again....It's about time people start realizing companies like Blizzard and Activision have pretty much turned away from communities since World of Warcraft and really only care about how much money your spending with them. It's not wrong in a sense because they are a business. But it can ruin a game for you if you treat it like a job instead of entertainment. |

Aventurine making returning players buy the game AGAIN!
General Discussion « Darkfall: Unholy Wars 4/25/13 3:55:51 PM
Game world is actually different, yes its a similar shape but a lot has changed.. They promised that the exp pack DF2010/arena would be free.. but they stopped making that and instead decided to be a totally new game. You actually think Aventurine who can't even fix there old game, spent one year making DF 2.0 and its not the same game? Cmon people, they are an independent studio, this is NOT a new game. Any game developer can tell you the amount of time it really takes to build a new game. So instead of comparing this game to a console games development, which is ten folds quicker, try an MMORPG. So name one MMORPG that shut down its servers after the first game, and had a BRAND NEW game within a year? I will be waiting........... And While we wait for your answer, ask me this, is this the EXPANSION they talked about or not? Because with as small as this company is, how in the hell did they go from working on an expansion for 1.0 to ditching that and working on a new game client in a matter of less than 2 years and be almost feature complete shocks me. You really think this isn't the same old game spiced up? They are either feeding you guys a bunch of bull, or they are simply thee best gaming company with thee fastest developers and coders in the world. I'm going to point my finger at my first assumption seeing as MMORPG game development is one of the longest development cycles of any game type. Don't beleive me, just ask Blizzard who employs a mass amount of developers, how long it took to put WoW together and how long its taken them with Titan. You really think Aventurine has better coders than Blizzard? This whole thread is funny to say the least....and thats my 2 cents. |

Kickstarter Charges You Only If The Project Funds

So yeah, as a consumer, you can shrug it off. Seem's Trion is anyways since its really nothing more than some chinese hackers trying to steal source code they wont be able to use anyway and is probably outdated by now. |

[Column] General: A Letter to Mr. Appleton
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/12/13 8:47:12 PM
I have no clue what Greed Monger is or was or will be, but I can easily tell someone needs to hire a PR person like Yesterday! And Jason, as a devoted MMA fan of both UFC and the old Strikeforce I have only heard your name a few times, and it was not in a good way. May want to stop saying that and just get your PR person now. You may have been a great salesman back in the day, but your an owner now, act like it please.

A massively brutal critique of Camelot Unchained's website
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 4/09/13 7:53:04 PM
As a Web Designer/Developer for almost 5 years now and degree's to support, I approve of this messege. Its almost like they used one of those sites that puts a website together for you in 10 minutes. Doesn't really shine a good light on a project your trying to get the public to fund for. Cmon Mark! <--------as ESPN announcers say.....

Originally posted by velmax Not sure were you got your information from, but your dead wrong on every account. Casual MMO's will never go away, and if anything theres more of them than sandbox coming in the next 2 years. I can count atleast 5 upcoming Casual based MMO's. Sandbox MMO's are not a present as you would think. And don't go believing any of those upcoming MMO's stating they are sandbox, because most of them are not. They are more akin to sandbox hybrids. Thanks for the link though, had not seen it yet and goodluck and your future gaming endevours. |

Mark Jacobs and Company - Please do not REQUIRE monthly fees to play.
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 3/23/13 12:16:34 PM
25 pages worth of non sense, seriously. The only difference between a F2P and P2P is the business model of getting cash from players. And sadly with F2P's, while the business model is probably the more accepted due to sheer volume of players playing, doesn't mean it's better. Most F2P's end up in a flux of some sort, were development stalls due to waiting for funds, whereas P2P's seem to have a more solid development cycle due to the fact that they usually can calculate how much funds they have and what they can develop a lot faster because there funds don't flucuate as much month to month after the first month of launch. Notice I said after the first month, usually when most players nowadays decide wether they like a game or not and drop it. With F2P's, there is no predictions because people can pick up and drop the game at an instant. ANd most of the time without paying a single dime. This game should go Sub and most likely will. Making a post on this forum won't change it, no matter how much time you spent creating it.

I'm not a fan of DRM and I might buy the game. But lets get some facts straight first. DRM can cause more troubles then not. Depending on how the company institues it, I've seen several people lose games to DRM. How so? When you can't reinstall a game because it's DRM protected and it comes up with a duplicate license key. That right there is the most common reason why a lot of people hate DRM. And for those hating on sites like piratebay and isohunt, quit being a fool. These people are not the reason DRM was instituted. Think I'm wrong, go have a look for yourself on google search. All these sites do is host links. You want to blame anyone, blame yourself or your next door neighbor or whoever else is distributing the software without a license. Go blame those fools who worked with Demonoid on cracking software. Places like piratebay actually do distribute legal software, music and videos. They just don't have a say so n what else pop's up from there links. Why you ask? Freedom of use, plain and simple. So do us all a favor, either buy it or not. But there is no need to start a crusade.

Diablo 3: Travis Day Speaks On Itemization
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/05/13 2:20:02 PM
My only problem with Diablo 3 is that when they implemented the AH, they should of put BoE on on rare items. Since they did not, the AH is basically turning into a glorified rental bank system. Eventually it will get to the point of having so many items that there will be no value and everything will be selling for minimum price if at all.

General: Blizzard Hints at New Game for PAX East
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/27/13 12:28:57 PM
I doubt it will be Blizzard All Stars only because they have been having issues with even getting that game properly developed. I am almost 100% sure its a mobile game, and it's probably Lost Vikings. Plus look at the letter and the background. Anything look familar? =-)

''One mega server which is smart about putting you with your friends'' - no thanks.

Originally posted by nate1980 Its not the graphics that stops developers from building a seemless world with thousands of players, its the moving objects and server load. Not with this game, not with the next big game. There all built off what they can handle server wise. Trust me when i say this, the hardest part about making a game isnt the game itself. The hardest part is getting it took work over a network with the intention of supporting thousands of players. And this is why you will continue to get phasing/instancing. Now if someone really wants to help out, start using some of that free time to develop a server of that caliber. |

''One mega server which is smart about putting you with your friends'' - no thanks.
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 11/28/12 7:34:45 PM
Wow 7 pages worth of threads and no one mentions the obvious. Im not here to defend what they are doing, but there is a reason. It's called game programming. Have you ever in your life seen a seemless world that can support hundreds of thousands of players on one server? You could probably answer yes to that on one game, EVE. But heres where things go wrong, ENTITIES!!!!!! You can only have so many moving objects on a screen before the server load gets to high and eventually crashes. If anyone of you have ever read anything John Carmack has written, then you would see why it can't happen with todays technology. There isnt one server that could handle 10000+ players on top of NPC's and the like. So the question really is, would you rather play a game that crashes constantly but looks amazing and you can play with everyone, or would you rather have smooth gameplay and no crashes and only play with a select few? Trust me on this, you will never see a one server seemless world anytime soon. Getting over this now will help you move on and maybe you can start enjoying what you have. |

Rumor: Angry Birds coming to Star Wars .. frown==frown-1000

Originally posted by Karteli Your title should read the other way around like this: "Star Wars coming to Angry Birds!" It's nothing more than a themed Angry Birds like they do with the Seasons updates. I doubt they invested enough time to actually make a full fledged game since they just recently released Bad Piggies and Amazing Alex. |

[Review] Torchlight 2: Kudos on a Job Well Done

Originally posted by Silok No offense, but that is just wrong. Being called a cheat because he wants to respec his character? You cannot be serious can you? If so, wow just WOW. Runic needs to change that like now. Respeccing a character is NOT a cheat. If their intention is for you to make another character, then remove respeccing. But adding the option, then labeling the players who use it as cheaters and having the community look down on these people is just bad. |

Originally posted by teakbois It is true, not hype. Maybe you missed the video where one developer sorta hit his map key. Plus you can clearly see by the developer videos the expansion is very large. Not sure why you wouldn't believe a statement like that from Trion, they are the only company that shows what they say. |
