3 weeks of LOTRO from a L 50 *Somewhat of a review*

You can level to 40 in LOTRO in about 4 days getting power leveled. 40-50 is harder unless you have a group of people helping you. |

8 days played for your first WOW char is pretty good IMO :P
I think it took me 2 months on my first WOW char, 11 days /played. My whole point was that yea, I played more then the average person, but the average person will be catching up in no time and will find similar issues if they don't fix them. You know how RELIEVED I was that there would be no big raids in LOTRO? I hated end game in WOW, I never bothered grinding for purple gear, etc. Found it boring and stupid. Also having to put up with 40 people, some which you didn't get along with, just to hope that after a few hours i would get a good drop wasn't my thing. I loved the smaller WOW instances though. I wish LOTRO had like, 10 more 6 man instances at end game, and 10 more epic books to go through... to tide us over a month or 2 more. Sure I could go level alts glaore, and have 30 level 50's but because the game is scripted and there are only a certain amount of quests, which I already did, the fun factor is kinda gone. Oh well if my Kin and I decide we are tards we'll have our L 50's to go back to :P |

In WOW I would play, Id say 17 hour stints or more when getting to 60 in 5 days after i got good at it. But, theres no way I could have done that in the beginning.. after about 6 L 60's you get good at quest orders :P I was trying to explain that I played a lot less hardcore then a lot of people did in LOTRO, and yea I had days where I played long 10 hour sessions, but nothing close to what I did in WOW back in the day. I responded to your comment before you posted that I didn't respond, go back a page.. what I said was, yea there wasn't even close to the end game content there is now, but there were tons of instances to do while leveling, and the end game content that WAS there took a lot longer and gave better rewards then LOTRO's does. I am not a WOW fan girl by any means though, don't get me wrong. I was having a great ole time in LOTRO, for a lil while. FTR I am totally completely sick of WOW for obvious reasons, so you can see why i was excited to get into LOTRO. Another thing, a guy in my guild power leveled his Loremaster with his 50 burglar to 40 in a few days.. he surpassed 1/4 of our guild in levels with his ALT..... if other people catch on to power leveling there will be craploads of bored 50's around in no time. |

Originally posted by Daedalus732 heh, thus the post of my kin websites screens WOW didn't have a ton of endgame at launch, but I say 20x the content because of all the instances throughout the game, tons to do. And the endgame that WOW had, did infact take a heck of a lot longer than the endgame in LOTRO does. You can't play to the end in LOTRO and not admit WOW had more to offer.. but hey oh well right? Its not just the content, anyways, its everything I listed. LOTRO is disappointing for all those reasons... especially the phat loot, or lack of :(. |

Your comment makes me think you never played WOW at release. |

Hey guys, OP here. I am not lying about how much I play, I just know how to play MMO's I guess, and I had a good group I always played with to get through all the quests.
Yea I've been playing MMO's since like, 1999 which isn't as long as some of you.. i really enjoyed LOTRO at the start and was really excited to play this new MMO so I did a lot of things. I didn't realise how soon the end game would come :/. I never even played past 15 in beta! If you want proof you can check out our guild website's picture gallery: www.dungeoncrawlersinc.info I even had time to set up guild website. I am not trying to put this as a reflection on other's play styles.. just seems very very short even compared to some one player games out there.. considering this game was under development for 5 years, not a couple months like some single player games. Maybe I expect way too much! I don't know, it just seems other games had a LOT more content at release. Also, my point is not that you should level as fast as me or whatever, just that in a month or so everyone that plays at a more "normal" rate is gonna find nothing to do and drop this game like I have |

Originally posted by Kremlik The thing is, I didn't even rush to end game.. I did everything there is/was to do in the game. Tell me how i could have slowed down, lol.. I am not really sure what i could have done differently. It is my play style. I didn't see it posted anywhere there was no end game.. there is end game, it's just boring and pointless to do aside from bragging rights. I guarantee in the next week or so there will be 100 posts about this kind of thing over on the LOTRO forums if there isn't already. IMO they should KNOW people are going to want to play and level past 30 before June.. |

You guys are ALL MISSING THE POINT!
It doesn't matter how fast or much I played the game, in a week , a month, everyone will catch up! I posted this from my point of view as for what other players will be seeing, to give insight, not to say play 12 hours a day. EDIT: a couple people think I am lying, let me clarify.. I did in fact do all this in under 3 weeks. I did not play past 15 in the beta. I had 2.5 days where I didn't play because my internet went down. I spent time helping my kin mates get through Fornost. A few days I didn't play to set up website and to just take a break. Yes, I played most days for 7-12 hours a day. A couple days of the 3 weeks I only played 2 hours a day. I did not mean that I played every day only 2 hours a day! :p FYI, I was not even close to being the first 50 in the game, or even on my server. People got to 50 in like the first week. If you'd like to see some pics of what we did check out our website.. I didn't think this would be an issue but feel free to look all you want at our gallery www.dcikinship.info/e107/e107_plugins/autogallery/autogallery.php Hey guys, I feel something has to be said about LOTRO. I am pretty disappointed and need to gripe so don't take this personal if you like the game. I was one of LOTRO's bigger fans at least in the sense that it would tide me over till TR or AoC. Well since release (starting at L 15) I played for 3 weeks, I would say yea I played a lot but not that hardcore compared to say, my WOW days. I took a few breaks in between of 2 days or more without even logging on, and some days I played maybe only a couple hours a day. I am telling you this so you don't think i am some crazy 24/7 power leveler. I do play more then the average person, but not by a huge amount, maybe I end up doing stuff a week sooner before the average person. I am writing this to let you know what you can expect depending on your play style etc. Sadly, in 3 weeks from release I managed to do the following: a) Get to max level. b) Get the highest level in crafting. c) Do every major fellowship (group quest, meaning hard) quest in the game. d) Complete all the end game instances, Urugarth and Carn Dum. e) Finish all the Epic storyline quests. f) Defeat every monster stronghold in Ettenmoors (PvMP) with a small group of players. g) Kill a 24 man raid boss with 6 people. h) Get all my Legendary traits (skills). After all this, I had a hard drive crash and I haven't re-installed LOTRO nor have I logged in, in over a week. Why? 1) Itemization is HORRIBLE. Expect to spend hours doing the end game instances and getting loot that is worse then loot you get from quests 10x easier. I am not exaggerating here. For instance, the hardest boss in the game and most fun fight of the ENTIRE game is Mordirith. And guess what, he literally drops loot worse than loot we get off of trash mobs in the instance. 2) End game instances over all are slow and boring. It takes you a couple tries to learn what to do for a couple bosses, but most are just high HP sacks of lard that you chip away at till it's dead (and go have a coffee and come back!) It is just a matter of time sink. Carn Dum, if you don't have the keys, will take you 7 hours. 3) No end game soloing aside from grinding. After 35 theres no way to level without fellowships. For me this wasn't a bad thing but for a lot of people it would be. I'm going to contradict myself here. Although I found the game too easy in a sense, it would not be at all easy for a casual player past 35 because of the need for a good group constantly. You can't just log on and play as you have to do group quests that require a Minstrel. I had a Minstrel that I played with until 50 thats why I could do all this stuff... which brings me to my next point 3A) Vitality the only real stat that matters. You can kill anything with enough Morale(hp). The game is dependent solely on having a healer. Maybe this is good to some people, but I could see it being such an annoyance. Every other class doesn't even matter as long as you have a healer, lol. 4) Every character of a class is the same. There are only a few traits that are good for a particular class and every one will have those traits. Once you've done end game you'll have the exact same quest weapons as everyone else. At least there is dye 5) Mounts are badly implemented.. one archer can make a L 50 fall off their horse.. whats the point of even having one when you fall off the horse every 5 seconds. 6) Its like they make the game only to L 30 then threw in the rest of the content.. not realising people actually level a lot faster then they thought. Quests are badly mis-labled. There are some group quests that are soloable when they are red, then there are MANY solo quests impossible to solo, surrounded by elites and signatures galore. Also there are quests that would be blue or white to you that are nearly impossible to do even though you are at the right level. 7) The hardest quest in the game is your L 45 class quest. Most classes require items that drop in the hard end game instances... but the drop is not 100% so they are quite hard to get.. some of the items aren't even in game by mistake. And guess what, if you DO manage to get your quest items, the quest rewards are way worse then what you can get from L 40 regular quests! The weapon I got from doing my class quest I used for less than half a level just because I wanted to say i used it. I guess I thought there was more in this game, I fooled myself lol. Yea they are putting out more 24 man raid content sometime in June, but i wonder if that 24 man stuff is also 6 manable I really liked the idea of PVMP and 6 man end game, but they're just badly implemented. I want about 10x as much content and they could have done soooo much more with PVMP. I know the game is new but i thought there'd be a lot more. |
