Red Sun is a guild founded on a principle where the entire guild is self governed by it's membership. Everything from small things like changing the motd to recruitment is a privilege held for any member. There are no mandates for joining outright, however whoever may recruit you once the game has gone live may be after more raid members or perhaps people who love PvP.

Another defining concept is that Red Sun does not use voice comms. The reason being that there are already plenty of other guilds out there that do so. In fact most if not all do so this is a place for those of you who with to avoid it's use. If that's something you're not interested in then you will have no problem finding a home else where.

For now recruitment is open so head to the Red Sun forums and check the recruitment section for information on how to join. I'll get around to adding people to the site very soon and if you are in beta please PM me your in-game name so that I can get you an invite. If you have any other questions regarding how things will work please take some time to check out the guild FAQ below.

What server ruleset will Red Sun belong to?
I'm inclined towards a PVE-RP server given that one is provided. I prefer the communities and they also tend to be more stable population wise. I personally don't RP very much if at all any more but may provide some kind of back story for the Red Sun Syndicate organization. However if the majority would prefer PvE then I'll create the guild on a normal PvE server.

Which faction do you plan on?
Republic for when the game goes live. I'll create one for Empire for alts and given the nature of the guild it may grow into it's own might. But for launch the primary focus will be on the Republic side as I may not get to the other faction for several days to create the guild.

Will Red Sun be aimed at casuals or hardcore gamers?
I don't care how you classify yourself. I play many hours in a day, more than most I would imagine. Play how you want, I'm not going to tell you how many hours you need to sink into the game to stay a member. If you don't log in for over a month you'll be removed however. If nothing else I do like a tidy roster.

Will Red Sun raid?
If we have enough members who are interested I don't see why not. I believe loot is provided randomly to those who participate so I see no need for any type of loot council or DKP. If this ever changes I imagine Red Sun will simply go by RNG rolls for those who need. I want to avoid any member being assigned special roles which would have to happen if we wanted someone in charge of loot distribution. If you want something more akin to DKP, you'll be better off joining a raid focused guild.

That said, most people who raid have become dependent on voice chat and I wouldn't rely on the chance that we'd find the number of members required to field a good raid crew on any specific server. So if your end game goal is to raid you may be better off searching for a guild with that goal in mind.

Why no voice chat?
I prefer to play without voice chat and it's sort of hard to find a guild which doesn't require it even if they only intend for you to log into a vent server and listen. In Red Sun you will not have to use any form of voice chat. Yes, that even goes for raiding. This is one of the primary reasons I've created the guild.

Why no leadership?
It's another reason I've created Red Sun and it's not an entirely new concept. Chaos type guilds have existed in previous MMO's. I may be limiting some of the privileges I pass on to members however. The only one being the ability to disband the guild. While I had originally thought it would be fun to allow everyone to have this privilege I figure if guild ranks or levels are ever added in it could prove to be a huge loss for the guild to be disbanded.

So I can be kicked by another any other member?
Correct. You can also be invited back in by any other member. You're place in the guild is protected by the friends you make and threatened the same by your enemies. So it's important to be respectful both in guild chat and while grouping with guild members. How this will all play out will be part of the fun.

What if I just keep getting kicked out?
Then either you've managed to piss off enough people so that no one will kick the guy who's kicking you, or he'll get the boot and you'll find your way back in.

What if someone were to join given the ease of joining and rob the bank?
As with all guilds you will need to be careful with what you entrust to the guild bank. Orders for crafted goods can be handled through the guild site, there's an area for this under the Tradeskills tab and also under the forums. Ultimately it's up to every member to carefully consider who they invite to the guild. If you wish to have them submit an app to the recruitment forum you can arrange for that.

Awesome! I kind of hope they don't let us go any further then level 30 in future beta's though as it would be nice to have some suprises left in the game.

This would be epic fail beyond belief.  Name one game that did this and had any end game content to speak of at release ?   They have to test it all not just 1-30 otherwise a month after release 50% will quit because end game wont exist.

They have another beta group, (still calling it alpha) testing out end-game content. These events are mostly promotional, stress testing, and general bug finding.

I'll make either, it really depends on which looks best, animated better, etc.

And yet, it's correct. I won't be.

Thats all this game is, they've reused everything from mechanics like PQ's and RvR all the way down to exact model's, skin and terrain textures, and animations. Why would anybody waste a dime on this crap, it has the same developers who got fired from EA Mythic for gods sake, are you really going to buy a game from the developers of Warhammer Online?? Look at the post-release patching of WAR, they didnt add a god damn thing worth note for over a year, and the stability of the client remains questionable at best, the same client that Rift will use.

Save your money for something better people, don't encourage this kind of blatantly lazy rehashing.

You've not played it. You can say you have, but it's clear you have not. Now, you may have seen a screenshot, maybe even watched a clip on Youtube, however if so you were not paying close attention, so I can only imagine the motive behind this thread is boredom. In which case you should go to the library.

Not really sure if this game will pull me out of Aion. Maybe after a few more beta's I'll get more into it. I too skip the rifts but find the soul system interesting. I get the feeling however that groups will only want certain templates, so it may end up being no different than any other. Time will tell, unfortunately only after I do or do not take the plunge.

Unfortunately the character models looked like something I leave in the toilet.

LOTRO definitely wins in graphics. Not only for the fact that it looks good, but that it does so while maintaining very stable. It did this even in late beta. Aion did fairly good as well, but suffered when you had too many characters on screen (which happened often).

Rift is a fine looking game, though it's a bit drab. I suppose that's intended, given the setting. Character models are excellent, environments are excellent.. Performance is spotty however, as I'm able to run on High but at times I have to set it to Low and even then I get bad FPS. They still have plenty time to improve things, and with the insane amounts of polish they currently have, if they launch with a game that performs as smoothly as LOTRO then they'll have me as a loyal customer.

Now hear we go. A lot of people that were on the RIFT bandwagon are now jumping off because of a false built up expectation. The same thing will happen with GW2  and it's dynamic events. Are they really any different than RIFTS events, i don't think so.

Quoted for this.

The best bame is always the one we havent experienced yet, GW2 will be no different.

It has PQs, it has chore quests (it just dosent call them that).

Anyhow, wont add more, because it's said below.

You're still going to be running around in the same old fantasy setting doing the same stuff that the first GW had plus zerging into a event that will only affect the playing world for a short time.

With saying this, does that mean GW2 will feel the same as RIFT, who knows since no one has been able to play it. I guess time will tell if GW2 will be more of the same or be some what better than RIFT.

Even though RIFT feels like other games, the biggest problem it has is that it didn't set itself apart from the others. So the game feels no better or worse, just has a been there done that type of vibe.

People have played GW2 and no they don't think it feels like Rift, actually they think GW2 plays better and is more fun.

Who are these people? Are they a collective? They all agreed? Not doubting, just find it odd that everyone would say the same thing.

Wait, I guess I am doubting. I imagine GW2 will be a good game though, It's just that I've heard the whole "innovative" PR campaign before.

It would be a sad day.. This is the only MMO i've felt compelled to subscribe to in the last three or so years. Only drawback being that so far 1-17, I haven't had a need or desire to group. I've come across no content that has demanded it, I've not be led to believe that doing so will give me better loot or xp. I hope it does soon though, I didn't roll a cleric to solo all the way to 55.

Yeah I feel the same way.  Rift just looks like another "Stripped down WoW + 1" game.  It takes a stripped down version of the WoW formula, adds 1 or 2 features (rifts) and then proceeds to release and fail.

You can see this phenomenon with several other games:

AoC (stripped down WoW + combo based combat)

WAR (stripped down WoW + more PvP)

Aion (stripped down WoW + flying)

All of these games fail for a reason.  WoW is great at what it does, a stripped down WoW + 1 game is never go to be preferable to the real deal.  Just like the OP said we need innovation or something different.  More of the same is just a waste.

Well, going by that.. ANY MMO release is going to be a stripped down WoW. Aion is so freaking different from WoW in so many ways that to call it a stripped down version is absurd.

Thinking of buying this on Steam, would like to try it out first so if anyone could hook me up with a trial, email is amysimmons78@gmail.com (NA)

Thanks

Game looks fantastic, and actually runs without a hitch. Something that no other MMO that looks this good has pulled off. Of course that's just my experience, but my computer hasn't been high end since 08', and it runs this game maxxed out without a drop in framerates as of yet. Biggest concern would be a lack of non-combat activities. There's no crafting, no secret identities, no player housing, no mini-games, etc. Not a big deal for those who just want to hop in and beat up on some villians/heroes, but for those looking for depth may find themselves walking away too soon.

However, will have to see at what rate they add things in after release. They need to get the other three power sets in ASAP for example. The groundwork for a very successful launch is there however, and it's SOE, they're very unlikely to have server shakeups on launch day. At least assuming they've learned from their mistakes in the past.

Probably runs a bit better on the PC at that res. Then again, they're primary target is the PS3 playerbase, so they may get more attention on the update front, in terms of UI improvements, etc.

Hit ESC, click the mask icon on the bottom left and select "back", and you can pick which back asset you want to display.

Like someone else has said, flagging is typical of PvE servers, while PvP servers are gankville. You also have to deal with all of the filth that is drawn to ganking. It's a pit of a server type. Can be fun though to do from time to time.

I guess you could say it's more of a Non-Asian Grinder.

Well, kinda saw Mortal online's failure coming when i saw that it was so heavily focused on PvP. STO of course had a terrible team behind it who's decision to recycle a super-hero game's engine for a Star Trek one was laughable. Though, the space combat was fun.

FFXIV was perhaps the game that caught me off guard by how horrible it was at release. You just expect a bit more polish from Squaresoft I guess. Or maybe I do, and maybe I'm wrong.

I voted for APB because while I found it to be fun, the fact that it was taken offline says it all.

Whats concerning me is how far the gaming media is allowing companies to push the line on what is an actual MMO.  Its really getting frightening.

What defines an MMO is primarily one thing: a large persistent non instanced world.  That doesnt mean the game can't have instances in the forms of dungeons, raid zones, etc, but at the very least the regular basic world has to be non instanced and able to support anywhere from 20-100+ people running around in the same zone or area at once.  That does not mean a little bar/social hub where everyone can see each other counts, it has to be an actual world.

This is why Star Trek Online is not an mmo, and why games like Vindictus are not MMO's.  What they are is online server based RPG's with a robust multiplayer system.  Its no different than playing Diablo II on battle.net, they just chose to have a place where your avatar can run around while you look for players to group with.  Battle.net gives you a text based chat room, STO gives you a graphical chat room.

I wouldn't worry too much about the definitions of an MMO. It's an extremely worthless topic to discuss. Rather you personally label is an MMO or not, changes nothing of what is offered.

Caught me by surprise as well. it's a nice change of pace, vs hot-bar mashing (not sure I'll ever be able go back). Starts out simple, but ramps up over time to some incredibly fun boss fights.
