Because, you know, comparing two internet spaceship games is terrible. Wouldn't want someone to give their opinions on games in a game review article.

Internet spaceships are serious business. Nice troll, though.

sorry, but although it might be easier to dismiss something you dont agree with as a "troll".  some of us are trying to have a conversation.  it saddens me that these days anything that is any kind of a disagreement quickly gets a label thrown upon it.  i believe david cross once called that "another symptom of the glorification of stupid".  which i thought was a very astute way of putting it.

i was looking for feedback from scott on this directly.  hence why i directly addressed and quoted him.

now while it might have seemed like a good idea to contrast a sensationalist pun to color your article.  how could you not realize the journalistic ramifications of a large percentage of your readers, who are passionate about the mmorpg genre, seeing that link and immediately dismissing your entire article based on what appears to be obvious journalistic bias toward a site advertiser?

Considering that I actually work for an MMO company that runs neither STO nor Eve Online, I find the accusation that I'm shilling for a particular competitor somewhat amusing.

read again scott.  im not saying that you are, read again.  the link hurts the integrity of your article.

i realize half handed remarks that hint at something are the norm around here, so i dont take the reply personally.

however, in this, i was being literal.  posting that link without thinking about the consequences is kind of a "noob mistake" when it comes to writing.

i think thats a reasonable criticism dont you?

p.s.

ive worked for 2 mmo companies as well.  so trust me, i understand the perspective you might have far better than you might initially realize.

MMORPG.com columnist Scott Jennings has been playing Cryptic's Star Trek Online and today uses his article to talk about the game, pointing out the good, the bad and the ugly.

Scott Jennings

As I mentioned in an earlier column, I found my inner Trekker unable to resist Star Trek Online’s siren song. Yet it’s difficult to turn off the analytical game designer part of my brain, even when thinking up silly names for your starships, so an interesting topic for today’s column, I believe, is a look at how Star Trek Online shapes up as an MMO as opposed to an outlet for my nerd-Trekkery. I’ve been playing it for a little over a week now (achieving “Lt. Commander 6”, or level 16 out of 50 in other words), which while not enough to conclusively file a review is enough for a first look at some of what Cryptic is trying to accomplish with the game. So, unlike the earlier piece, which was more about me and what a sad, sad little Star Trek fan I am (and only slightly about raised expectations regarding beta programs), this is more a look at Star Trek Online as it stands on release.

Read STO - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.

Scott, scott, scott, scott, scott......

its glaringly obvious, you arent a writer.....

really...  im at a loss as what to say at this point.  i really wish i could post the finer points of why i disagree with your article.  but youve created a situation where i dont have to by directly linking to a directly competing mmo in eve online.

who is as we all know, one of the longest time, and oldest front page advertisers of this site.

now while it might have seemed like a good idea to contrast a sensationalist pun to color your article.  how could you not realize the journalistic ramifications of a large percentage of your readers, who are passionate about the mmorpg genre, seeing that link and immediately dismissing your entire article based on what appears to be obvious journalistic bias toward a site advertiser?

how could you not see this?

im actually embarassed for you.

 cool story bro

i went back and forth on this one.  ended up buying left 4 dead 1.  after looking at the steam forums, seems like alot of guys are going back to the first game i guess they have issues with how the 2nd game is compared to the first.

im not opening mine till xmas though.  only gift i get this year.

jrpg's and jmmorpg's are terrible video games.

I don't understand the need to even talk about games that are still 3 years away.

i completely agree with this statement.  theres plenty of time for this company to go under before the game even goes live.

not that it will, its just... too soon ya know?

but then again, thats classic gawker media fail.  they'll do anything sensationalist to get their blogs traffic.

IF THIS is true.

it could also be battle angel alita.  cameron's next project after avatar is a battle angel alita movie

 cant friggin wait

ill love you forever if you can hook me up with a google wave invite

cerebrix@gmail.com

 not true

that tried and tested apple game "photoshop" has been in hd there for years!

doesnt this make like 10 games total for apple computers now?

Guild Wars is really the only one that comes to mind. If you consider it an MMO...

The game consists of well-designed story-driven quests and it does not take long at all to reach the max level. Once there, you will have many skills at your disposal and the game is all about picking the best spec for the situation.

If you haven't tried it yet, I would highly recommend it.

^^

THIS

i found an old gamecard, repopped it.  played for like 2 weeks.

its a lil more fun, population is low though.

this game honestly got me to repop my wow account.  and i think wow is a better warhammer than warhammer is.  ironic isnt it?

20 dollars an hour isnt setting the bar very high....

"Buying gold makes baby murlocs cry. If that isn't enough to dissuade you, then check out the informational webpage we put together to make sure everyone has the facts about the negative impact of buying gold and using power-leveling services. Our goal is to shed light on how these companies operate, share some of the measures we’re constantly taking to combat them, raise awareness of the effects these services have on all players -- not just the buyers -- and help protect members of the community from being targeted by them. So give it a read -- it'll only take a few minutes. And don't buy gold. Because you wouldn't want little Murky's tears on your conscience, would you?"

discuss......

so i can design a quest where i can make my enemy's name like i dont know...

smed, or smedley...  just something im kicking around.

can i script his dialog to make him admit to being a transvestite?

ill call my quest "smeds got a secret"

whatcha think?

the mmorpg.com forums are like group therapy.

people come here to cry

and not much else.

i rolled a new toon to check out the changes.  i like them.  you level alot faster, pvp is much better t1.  im digging the newbie changes.

the voiceovers and tutorials are well done as well.

t1 seems busier and im happier with t1 after these changes.

good job.

im gonna catch some crap for saying this.

but i hate sam raimi with a passion......

dont get me wrong, he made some great movies.  but after watching drag me to hell i realized something.  his best movies werent great because of his work.  they were great because of the actors that carried him

lets look at the facts.....

bruce campbell..  the best chin in hollywood.  one of the best leading men ever imho.  funny as shit, brings with him his own flair and signature.  pretty much dominates every scene hes in.   the evil dead movies were great.  but we have to ask ourselves... why?

it wasnt the cheesy camera angles or low tech special effects.  what we remember most, is bruce's brilliant physical acting and comedy.

lucy lawless also carried him with xena.  as did toby mcguire with spider man.

but spider man 3, he really showed how badly his professional choices can effect a film and script.

so heres how i figure drag me to hell got made.  im willing to bet it probably went something like this....

sam raimi: man people are really pissed off about what happened in spidey 3...  all my fans hate me

ted raimi: well... you made peter parker emo and you got the dude from that 70's show to be venom.  i dont blame them for hating you, i hate you too.

sam raimi: i know what ill do..  people loved me when i did those evil dead movies.  maybe i should just do them again.  but this time.... get this.... WITH A CHICK

ted raimi: ......

drag me to hell was simply just another evil dead movie.  tailor made to "please the fans".  im sorry but i saw right thru it.  i was really looking forward to it too.  but really.  i felt like id been had...

something as cool as the warcraft universe shouldnt be handled by raimi.  i really think its going to suck.  they should have gotten Neill Blomkamp to do it.  It would have been so epic.  that man could really make the warcraft universe come to life.  add his close ties to weta and peter jackson and you would have had nothing but win.....

i thought i read there werent gong to be henchies and heroes on gw2
