You're stretching too much stating that it's not going to feel like an MMO.
Do you play WoW? LotRO? DDO? PW? How often are you in a group in those games? How about never except for dungeon instances?
GW2 will be the first MMO that lets you get the benefits of grouping without actually grouping. No kill stealing, no loot ninja's, no resource competition, shared XP... it's all good. You just have to be in the vacinity of other players to get the grouping benefits. It's about as seemless as it gets.
And if you want to construct an actual group -- you can. It doesn't prevent you from grouping so why slap an "anti-group" label on it?

I think a Harry Potter MMO would be awesome. First there's a foundation created in the novels (which I just started reading this year). For example there's the concept of spells, charms, hexes, jinxes, curses, potions, etc. You can see different skill trees forming... or even the concept of character classes. There are four houses in the school... this could be the basis of character "race" -- although there are various half-breeds which could also serve as character race. Examples are giant, werewolf, and Veela (the pretty mascot of the Bulgarian Quidditch team). The school would serve as the newbie area to learn the game... just like all good MMOs have a new player introduction area. I think there is tons of potential and it would be a blast to play. There's not reason it couldn't have universal age appeal, just like WoW. |

If ANet proved anything with GW1... it's that we should give them the benefit of the doubt with GW2. I have very high expectations... that's also the fault of ANet :-D.

It may be an entirely new foe in order to introduce the lore in GW2.
I didn't think of that before, but it makes complete sense now. EotN will introduce the new playable races for GW2... why not the start of the GW2 lore? So now I'm leaning towards the introduction of an entirely new foe. |

Gwen will definitely be in the new expansion... in fact she's pictured in the PC Gamer article on EotN and GW2. I think she will be an NPC at least... and a Hero at best. Definitely not a foe tho.
I suspect the new foe is referenced in some way all the way back to Prophecies, which has an entire zone within the shiverpeaks. Maybe something to do with the history of the Stone Summit Dwarves. Taking a reach here, mostly because I can't remember Prophecies as well as the newer chapters. Digging back through the Prophecies lore may net a nugget or two. |

Thanks -- That explains a lot.
I'd wager the lack of screenshots and a dedicated GW2 website would disqualify it for now. I'm not sure if ANet/NCSoft will create a GW2 specific site, or include it as part of the main guildwars.com site. |

Being a GW slappy, I was slightly disappointed that GW2 is not on the list of games "in development".
I'm new to MMORPG.com so maybe I don't understand what qualifies as "in development". Anyway, eagerly awaiting GW2 and hope to see a game section for it soon :-) |

I'll start out by saying I'm a big GW fan. I own all three chapters and have many hours logged into the game.
The fact that such a great game can be published and maintained without a monthly fee is simply amazing. It's every bit as good as other MMOs I've played, but without the annoying grinding, kill stealing, resource competition, etc. I've finished all three chapters and I'm currently working on the Titles. I held off on Titles because they seemed so daunting to accomplish. However, now that I've started, it's added a whole new aspect to the game. The recent addition of "hard mode" along with the Vanquisher Title is awesome. If you get bored, try working on skill capping or cartography titles. Obtaining elite skills for the different secondary professions opens up new game play tactics and ideas. I'm very excited about GW2. I didn't read a single thing in the PC Gamer article that caused concern -- other than PC Gamer's frequent questioning of the monthly fee... how many times do the developers need to say "no monthly fee" before it sinks in? The concept of choosing one of your GW1 Toons as your "ancestor" rocks. You'll inherit benefits from your long ago GW1 ancestor based upon titles, pets, etc. I can't wait to see it. First indications will be in the upcoming expansion pack with the Hall of Monuments. I think the "persistent" areas are nothing more than larger outposts that exist currently. GW1 survives because of it's server infrastructure. I find it hard to believe that there will be areas consistent with other MMOs. I think the new persistent areas will be great, but not what people are initially thinking. GW1 is such a great product, I have no doubt that GW2 will be as well. If I could pre-order now, I would! |
