SWTOR has the smoothest Launch ever!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/16/11 3:42:31 AM
Originally posted by Mightyking I happen to be on one of the fullest servers and the VAST majority of players I see are guildless. I think the problem is people want to be on an active server so try to crowd in on servers that are already full. There are servers that still have room to spare, but people are crowding in on full servers. |

If the NGE can turn a sandbox into a theme park, is there a way to change a theme park MMO into a sandbox?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/12/11 1:44:24 PM
Possible, but highly unlikely. What's more possible and likely is a themepark slowly adding sandbox elements to become something of a hybrid. |

If there's one thing I've come to expect from science is to expect the unexpected. These scientists are expecting one thing, odds are they'll get something else instead. It's just the way of things. |

SW:ToR - better with FPS style combat?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/08/11 7:30:25 PM
I personally would not have pre-ordered nor played it had it been fps style combat. I don't like fps combat in MMOs, period. |

Originally posted by popinjay He did play a good joker. I also recall him being in a movie where he played a guy who went on a killing spree. It may be because I was just a kid at the time, but in my memory the character stands out as one of the most chilling characters in a movie I've ever seen. He did a great job, if my memory serves me well...which considering how long ago that was I willingly admit it may not. It was probably one of the first movies ever of a guy just going postal and killing everybody who got in his way. |

What does it mean for the world to be alive? *video*
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/05/11 7:03:00 PM
Originally posted by sanosukex I haven't read anything but the OP, so sorry if these things have already been pointed out. Sorry but these were poor choices in TOR videos. The first is in a combat zone, a place where you wouldn't expect to hear wildlife and such, and in the second all sound but the music appeared to be disabled. It's all about sound, in the AoC video you can hear frogs and insects which along with the scenery makes the place feel like you're actually in a swamp. In the first TOR video you hear exactly what you would expect to hear in an area full of combat, distant explosions and blaster fire. As for the second TOR video, the only thing you could hear was the music, even in the first TOR video you heard the characters footsteps and the like, while in the second...nothing but music. It's not a fair comparison. I wasn't in beta, so I don't know how it all sounds and feels, but the game IS still in beta and what you're seeing AND hearing is not the full rendition of the game. Early access opens in a little more than a week, perhaps then people will have a better idea of just how alive or not the game may feel. In any event, even if these complaints turn out to be valid it's an MMO, it's something they can very easily improve upon in a rather short time. If the game does feel lifeless, complain about it, they've been very good at listening to the community input, there's no reason they wouldn't listen now. Just don't expect it to be there the day after you complain, have patience, these things can take some time, afterall they have to figure out what an alien world might sound like. MMOs aren't 'finished' when they are released, at best you can use terms like 'smooth launch'. Personally considering Biowares history I'm more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. |

What MMO are you leaving behind (Poll)

I was playing Eve Online right up until last night. I was actually a little sad to let my subscription lapse as I was enjoying the new look of the recent expansion. But I've been planning to play TOR for a long time and with so little time between now and release I felt it best to let my subsciption lapse. To those who liked Eve but quit playing for some reason and will not be playing TOR, I would suggest you try it out again. It's worth it just on looks alone. The star field and nebulae look fantastic, they've been vastly improved. Plus with the new emphasis on improving the core gameplay, I think older Eve players can return to the game with a sense of having their voice heard. |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Honestly, when I heard the complaints about a lack of environmental sounds and the like I suspected Bioware was holding back. I suspect they will continue to do so until release. I'm surprised so few people have really considered the possibility. So it's not so much that they're listening to people and, Hey presto, it's suddenly in the game a week later. It was there all along, they just weren't ready, or simply unwilling, to reveal their full hand. |

An humble take on SWTOR road to keep subscribers
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/02/11 5:15:13 PM
Cross server LFG won't be, and shouldn't be, something they are working on on the short term. This is something you add to a game that's matured a bit, if at all. While it has it's advantages it also destroys any sort of community in the game. If they add it I'd just as soon that it happened two or three years down the road. They'd be better off making companions more viable in the tanking/healing roles so that in those situations when a tank or healer can't be found then a companion can fill the role. If they manage server populations well then there should really be no need for cross server LFG, imo. Edit: and before you say anything I know you said no cross server, I just wanted to stress my opposition to cross server LFG before people start the call for it. |

That's it! Shoot it in the head, MMORPGS are -DEAD-

I would dispute the idea that this is somehow impossible. There are 7 billion people on the planet now and 10 to 12 million is a drop in the bucket. I don't think TOR will bring in quite so many as WoW did, but then nobody thought WoW would bring in as many new players as it did either, so I wouldn't be dogmatic about it. Just like Blizzard, Bioware has a ready made player base, many of whom have never played MMORPGs. Perhaps there are other companies in the future who will move into the MMORPG market and bring in yet more. My point is don't count out the possibility, just because you think something is impossible doesn't mean it is. Another point, once people have tried something and they like it, they aren't so quick to move on from it. Many people who started with WoW have moved on to other MMORPGs. The same will continue to be true in the future and wherever there's a market someone will come along and try to tap into it. Even if you think nothing out there really fits the bill, doesn't mean there's nothing on the horizon. As for TOR, I've intentionally avoided the beta. I like going into a game and feeling that enjoyment I get from playing a new game for the first time. Anyway, I know what to expect from the game and unlike others I don't have overly high expectations of the game, I just expect to have fun for what it is. Bioware has never been one to introduce new mechanics to any of their games, they just take what's there and they use it to tell a decent story. Their stories if they were in a book probably wouldn't be award winning material, but in the gaming industry they are ahead of the curve. I've always enjoyed their approach to gaming and I expect I'll enjoy TOR as well. Edit: Also, as to whether or not I stay in TOR long term...I find that has less to do with the game as it does with the community I become a part of. I don't neccessarily mean the whole community, but rather that small community that is the guild. If I can find a guild I really enjoy, then as far as MMORPGs, that's what makes the game for me. The mechanics could be old as Methuselah and the graphics could be 8 bit, but if the group of people I play with clicks then I'm going to have a good time. |

Yes, you're being unfair. That running around you did in beta exists in every MMO in existance. So I'd say the problem is you, not the game. Perhaps it's MMOs in general you're burned out on. |

No fully fleshed out space , pathetic in a Star Wars game
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/27/11 2:22:18 PM
This game is based on the Kotor series, which also had no real space content. As a matter of fact in most Star Wars games the game is either entirely avatar/ground based, or it's a flying game. MMOs in particular are big projects and sometimes you have to focus your efforts, as this is a sequel of sorts to the Kotor series it's no surprise that space is not the focus. People need to know their game history and just get over this. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: SWTOR Republic Preview
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/17/11 12:51:10 PM
Ah, wow, it's Pokket. I've seen her on some Gamebreaker TV episodes. I'm surprised she was so positive in this preview, previously on gbtv she seemed uninterested in TOR. Not really negative, but she didn't seem to have much interest in it. She always seemed to be more of a Rift fan. I'm glad to see she's willing to give TOR a positive preview. |
