Thats it. Enough is enough.

I quit playing all those half baked WOW clones , and paying for it.

I can only shed a tear for a whole 2007 lost waiting for AOC and WAR , and their delay upon delay.

In this time , i have noticed F2P games are strongly gaining in quality , almost blurring the line between f2p and p2p ... so please.... i want one ... or more! Why not , they are free after all

Problem is. There are many to choose from , and i was to focused on p2p , so this was flying under my radar.

So i need your help and recommendation

Here is what i look for

1. Big world , with beautiful landscape and freedom of movement (different looking areas too)

2. Item oriented. - Something that makes drops worth while - like diablo

3. Lots of different skills , perferably skill tree with diferent builds. I need always to look forward to that next skill.

4. As less as possible grindtasticness

5. As high as possible production value

6. EU/US community

7. Characters that do not look like copy paste of each other

8. Fun factor

So , feel free to write about your favorite f2p , even if it does not fall into categories

First thing i want in NEXT GEN is to bring back the FIRST GEN

Let it forget WOW was ever made. Let it bring back UO world. Classless and no levels.

But most of all a big living and breathing world where existance of your character mathers, where you have a reason to play beyond artificial "carrot" like raiding and epic gear.

Basically

Take AO,OU,SWG,EVE

now spice it with next gen combat gameplay - Tabula Rasa style , or AOC, TCOS (they got the clue)

Add some good story quests that could be instanced (but nothing else should be) TURBINE knows how to do that.

Put all this in huge world

And there you got it....

While a bit rough around the edges PW is in league with the vast majority of  P2P titles out now. The only glaring weakness I see is it's english translation, lack of armor choices and audio (which is bloody horrible).

PW is surely not better than EQ2,WOW,LOTRO or other P2P MMOs - but it is darn close.

It surely made me consider paying F2P , until a nextgen MMO's come out

First off this game has apsolutely best character creation in any MMO i ever played.
You can make almost any thing you imagine. I actually created blue elf girl with cartoon like body and head, Huge Mike Tyson lookalike and a werewolf.

If that is not enough. You also do not have to display your armor , but you can create your own clothes and display them instead.

The game itself....now hang on , this is good...

The developers tried to combine many different mmos in one. So it is mix of WOW , EQ , Shadowbane , lineage 2 and whatever asian MMOs

Funny thing it plays like bit lamer version of Vanguard but withouth bugs

In the game you can freely fly over massive landscape. But you can tame animals and turn them into riding pets to ride on

You not only can own house , but you can grab piece of land remodel it and build city there. And yes ...it is PVP contested, kind of like in shadowbane...but this time you control large chunks of map.

The game has asian player shop system , and auction house aswell

Post is there and bank

You move with WASD and the game is QUEST based (although it is kill 10 X quests)

You have skill system with Diablo like skill tree.  So there are "builds"

All in all. The game is still in beta , it is asian MMO and free - but it allready has more appeal than most of p2p MMOs i know.

Surelly there must be some bad things down the line....but right now

Its just perfect

I am running the game on 3 year old PC with 1 gig ram and x700ATI (yes the discontinued version)And i am getting 25-35 FPS easily.  Only thing is that because i only have 2.0 shader, i can not enable shadows. So maybe that is the answer for your performance problems

2) Brain-dead AI. Seriously...the Bane just kinda stand there...and shoot every once in a while.

Honestly , the last game with good AI was FAR CRY. Even ever so praised Half-Life 2 had enemies that just stood there and shoot.

So yes it is true. Bane do not run for cover or spread to flank you. But if they did the game would be 10 times harder.... I think this is the reason DG removed that... or perhaps the AI can not calculate what is cover.In any way AI is not revolutionary, but it is much better than AI in any other MMO

TR has so, so much potential but I'm just not sure I've got the patience to sit it out until it gets there, if it ever does.

I play this game, and am blown away by gameplay, AI, and classes.

But one of the things i really enjoy about games is variety. Any MMO i played up to now i quitted when variety disapeared.

Usually when i see all the monsters, view all the enviroments and try all the skills.

Let me explain my self - when i say EVE and TR are the extremes

EVE is probably the only MMO right now that is true to the spirit of what MMO should be. But it is also extremely complex, it requires long term dedication - simply it is quite advanced for newbie that is simply looking for mmo to play

Tabula Rasa is new kid on the block , it tries something completely new and again appeals only to people that are looking for something new

People that never actually experienced western P2P MMO should rather start with classics, just to get feeling for it

WOW is reccomended - at least to see what all hubbub is about.

LOTRO and EQ2  are good alternatives , and do have more mature playerbase

No there is no 100 MMOs out there. Actual number of MMOs worth mention could be counted on fingers.

Eve and TR are two sides of extreme.

I would not recomend you either (although i play TR)

If you are new to MMOs (payed ones) i recomend you WOW

WOW is excellent game , with superior design. But that is all what WOW is. It is an massive online RPG (quite simple one at that)

But look ...

ULTIMA ONLINE 2D sprite pixelated 16 bit released SEPTEMBER 1997 had hundreds times more complexity than any of todays MMOs coupled with WOW and multiplied x 10 (except EVE) - and I dont even expect its complexity to be surpased even until 2012

So how can you expect progress , when programmers can not even surpass 10 years old game !?

I think people are really unfair to Turbine

It is true that MEO would pwn LOTRO - and many other EQ cloned crap we are seeing in blazing trails of WOW.

But Turbine had agenda to make WOW clone based on Middle Earth , ever since NGE investors are somehow convinced that sandbox MMOs will never bring the profit of linear grinds.

In this way Turbine did the best what can possibly be done with LOTR licence in WOW style.

Actually i have creeping suspicion that Bioware MMO will not be much unlike LOTRO

As for MEO...we can only dream.

Simply the fact is that TR holds great potential. It is not quite there yet.

But dont mistake it for "great potential" in Vanguard way. Vanguard is deeply broken game , while TR works perfectly , it is EXTREMELY FUN TO PLAY

Why is it not there yet? Because TR has bone structure to evolve into deep , complex sci-fi MMO. If NC soft continue to develop it right , it can easily contend with AOC and WAR.

But right now TR suffers from the same problem LOTRO does, or should i say a smart and valid strategy.

You see when making LOTRO ,Turbine did a smart thing...they didnt build whole game. Rather they built beggining game and polished it, after game was launched they continued work on higher level content.

TR like LOTRO had very short (effective) development time. So , its true high level content is not as rich as one would expect.

But in future update this will be provided.

Right now TR is:

FUN ( great gameplay )

OPTIMISED  ( works on most PCs )

BREATH OF FRESH AIR ( if i was to play another EQ clone i would burst of boredom )

NEW COMMUNITY ( You will not be the only new player on the server )

SCI-FI

MORE COMPLEX THAN MOST MMOs

I have nothing to do in WOW anymore. Its community reppels me , and i seen everything it has to offer.

TR is not perfect, and it is certanly less perfect than 9 million pound gorilla.

But it is new, it has new playerbase, and it is fun (if you dont burn trough the content)

I just want to say, that since day or two we suddenly have all this negativity from people that reached lvl 40 (twice) in first month of the game ... basically the people that burn trough content. The one that usually complain about nothing to do in endgame ...

Yup TR is just a core of a game , true there is nothing to do except fighting , true the game lacks content, meaningfull PVP ...somebody mentioned raids (god forbid) ...

One that will be a really new step and not simply the same fu...mechanics with fluff and marketing features all over to brand it "Third gen".

We need real AI, we need physics and environment interaction, we need new combat system that stop using the "aggro" thing and the whole "archetype" model. Then, they can put whatever environment, setting or marketing features over it, but first, they need to change the core mechanics. Cause as of today, those mechanics are all but prehistoric.

It will happen, but not before a long time I think, so get ready to get the same sh... for a few more years.
