Hey Lobo,

We're not IN the TERA weekend preview, and Amalur was streamed as a prelude to the MMO Copernicus.  Sorry to let you down, but next week may be better!

Nothing against Amalur. I play it myself.

But people here come for MMOs , and streaming TERA would be a good choice since not everyone got into preview weekend.

BTW if you want , i can give you my account. I will not play tommorow anyway.

I didnt know KOA is MMO?

Well you learn something every day :O

But acidentally TERA is having exclusive preview weekend this sunday. But i guess its not important.

Its after all just a mmorpg....

Fun gameplay tops all in my book :)

Yes but for how long? Great combat alone doensn't keep you playing a game for years.

There's alot more to gameplay than just combat, it's all the systems in place that make up gameplay, not just the pew pew related ones.  (or at least that's my understanding of it).

Good combat is a necessary building block to make a lasting MMO but everything outside of fighting counts just as much and apparently this game doesn't offer much in that department. Excpet maybe territory wars, that looks interesting (but it's only an endgame feature so meh).

Good gameplay, wont keep you playing for years. But its going to make time you do play, much less boring ;)

Anyway. I agree with you.

They have gameplay right. Lets see about the rest of the game.

I can only sadly remember Tabula Rasa, and its awesome gameplay - and total lack of anything else :(

That was a bummer

I'll try it eventually and I hope the combat really is fun but KoA was a horrible example to use for me personally since I found the combat in that game to be kinda boring.

I found that entire game to be a fried turd. So yeah, poor comparison.

If you didnt like combat ( and i mean combat, not quests or graphic or sound ) than you will not like TERA either.

Go back to target select, shortcut press , yawn fest

Yea. I hear you...

Sad really. Its finally a MMO I dont fall asleep while playing :S

One word about TERA : Gameplay is fun !

Its almost fun as Amalur Reckonig , and everyone is raving about how that game combat is fun. And imagine that this is MMO

A genre that we connect with boring select and click shortcuts gameplay.

I mean the gameplay is like Vindictus, but with much more variety (in classes and skills) and its completely open world, actually massive MMO (something we forgot)

And there is no LAG , which everyone said its impossible to make twitch based MMO because of.

Plus Graphic looks amazing and runs amazingly well and optimised on any machine.

I dont care whatever you have to say about the game. Endgame, grind, themepark...

Fun gameplay tops all in my book :)

And twitch based , skill based PVP ... nice :)

In case you forgot:

Mounted combat

And Rideable Dragons !

:D

What you just said does not give me any idication that it is a "real fantasy world" it only tells me that its visuals are Aion 2.0.  What about the WORLD itself? Does it feel like a world or does it feel like a hallway?

Not at all. If anything, its at least twice more open than SWTOR for example

Completely open

Well, as a berserker you prolly wont be able to scratch a good War or Slayer only because of the dodge mechanics.

For example, all of your special hits needs a power up, the stun included.

Your Axe is getting red while you wait on the power up bar and I can see it so I dodge through you, you fire your skill and lose control of your char while the animation runs so you cant turn back to block, I hit you with my best attack and rince/repeat, you dead, me at 100%...

Player skills my ass...

First,

dont never look ar PVP as 1:1 , it can never be balanced

Second

Berzerker hits for 5xdamage Warrior does , and has 5X armor.

Third

Mobile classes > static classes , in PVP

Fourth

Wait until both get pwned by archers

LOTRO : Shire ,

No competition. Probably one of the best zones in any MMO. And incredibly true to Tolkien lore

Oh well,

Shame :(

I actually found the game simply fun to play ( I played warrior )

Its admitedly bit simplistic MMO treadmill in design , typical for asiam MMOs. But action combat makes all the difference.

And for difference. I found the character models ( and by that i mean female ones ) ultra cool sexy :)

Me likes :P

If this game is meant as a "step up" for the MMO ... wouldn't it be smart to release it for free?

You give your new addicts the goods for free .. untill they depend on it :)

Its super expensive and HUGE rpg.

People payed 60$ for ME2 that has 15-20 hours of gameplay. This baby has over 200 hours of gameplay.

Dudes ! Dudes !

- The game has over 200 hours gameplay worth of quests ( and that is mesured during quick play )

- Totally random loot system ala Diablo

- Sandbox gameplay

- RR Salvatore writen the story

And you complain about the price ?

Alas

What i find discusting is EA marketing comparing the game to Skyrim.

"Its better than Skyrim" the banner on this site says !!!

If they were smart , they should write "Its nothing like Skyrim"

Because :

1. Its not better than Skyrim

2. If I like Skyrim , than why should i play any other game ? Dont they know Construction Kit is being released.

Man these guys are so clueles

Anyway

KOA , great action RPG.

Not as good as Skyrim, but you can not play one game all the time !

So SWTOR, like nearly every MMORPG released in the last 5 years, has shown a fairly steady decrease in server population over hte last month.  This is to be expected.  Doesn't mean the game is dying...just that all recent MMORPGs tend to be stuffed to bursting at release and then settle down.

But something interesting happened over this weekend.  According to the graph here:  http://www.torstatus.net/shards/us/trends, SWTOR actually had a fairly significant population surge this weekend...reaching levels close to the beginning of January.

Any idea why this happened?  Was there an influx of new players?  Or did lots of people jsut decide to play SWTOR instead of watch the superbowl?  It also could be something awry with that site's measuring methods...they just measure the "status" of the server.

What do you all think?

When i buy MMO game. I subscribe at least 1 month , even if I have many problems with it.

I allready bought it, so i made investment. I feel that at least I have to give it a chance.

And when i subscribe , I usually play compelled to play at least a bit.

This is what happens now,

There will be a small peak. And Bioware better use it to keep people in.

Otherwise - I always put the second month as point when user errosion starts seriously.

For example WAR nearly died at that moment.

You can adjust camera settings and slow it down.

What I allso had to add that i miss ability to zoom closer or further.

But all in all , with all shortcommings - over 200 gameplay hours ! Wow !

Well worth the buy :)

I know that sometimes a very good cards can cause micro stutter on older engine games. Its related to card trying to draw more information than the game can provide.

I have this in LOTRO sometimes

Are there anything except the X-series for fans of space sims to look out for anymore?

I'll forever hate Micro$oft for canning Freelancer2

Ah yes...freelancer :(

But : Infinity

This was (and maybe still is) a space MMO to end all other space MMOs

http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php

But it was too ambitios I guess...

I dont know guys.

But comming from SWTOR hater. Even I predicted around 4 million sold.

I mean couple the strongest IP on the planet + one of most popular developers Bioware + huge marketing investment.

Than make barely 2 million sales...

Well thats just pathetic all considering.

Bioware and EA might be all big to the press now. Talking about big sucess.

But I am sure heads roll there ... not that it will help now.

If you havent played it already I suggest you dont ever and dont throw away $60.   Linear story (you have to select a quest before you even start a server). Feels just like torchlight, which in my opinion is worse than D2.  The skill system is horrific. You feel restricted in combat.  You unlock more skills than you can actually use in battle. They should have stuck with the old skill tree system. The skill tree is one of those things RPGs should have never gotten away from.

Finally Blizzard dropped the ball this time when they took so long on making a game.

I said it time and again.

Longer development time =/= better game

Usually when you see the game being developed overly long , you can sure there was a problem of the worst kind. Namely = something was wrong with gameplay.

Which means total re working of entire game (or vital parts). Which is again done in haste, and without firm concept.

I can give you few good examples of games that had this problem. But I think one is enough : "Tabula Rasa" (it was a fantasy game originally)

My only fear is that GW2 is also bit too long in development...
