Here is my take on this. We know the designers were just doing what they were told. Remember what happened when Tiggs said no? Of course everyone was going to say yes Sir to corporate. Bottom line is SOE should have fixed the issues with the original game and not of screwed over 200k subs. Then they should have relaunched SWG (with all the bug fixes) and worked on gaining subs from there. I remember pre CU very well. Yes it was buggy but people put up with it because we believed SOE would fix a game we loved. All along while they should have been adressing issues they were working on a new game altogether. Pre NGE was not perfect but compared to all other mmo's i have played it was number 1 in my book.

If NGE was released as it's own game and pre cu never existed yes it would be by todays standards be considered a decent mmorpg. It's not about all the hard work this guy put into NGE it's about a jack ass sitting at his desk (Smed) who decided to screw over 200k subs to go after a WOW market.  SWG was ahead of it's time. Currently all we have our cookie cutter MMORPG's Perhaps if original SWG plans had not been scrapped it would be a bigger game for the simple fact that it would be the only thing on the market that is different.

People are getting sick of cookie cutter games. The SWG we all know and loved was not this.

"we want to make the game more Star Warsy and Iconic."

..thats all i have to say about that!!!!

people want puzzles! not to play a moisture farmer!! We want people to experience the puzzles they see in the movies!

Unfortinitly adding puzzles to the game is really going to throw the NGE fanboi's for a curve if pre NGE was too complex for them.

I heard Next publish will be learn your ABC's with Jar Jar

SOE Please stop beating it, it is dead already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that KOTOR mmorpg will be the /db to SWG. It makes baby Jesus happy!

It did not have to be that way though. I know if SOE/Smed had decided to admit to their mistakes roleback and not be so cockey SWG could still be alive today. I also know i would keep both subs current on both a KOTOR mmo and SWG if that were the case. At that point if two Star Wars games were running well and bringing in money there would be no reason to get rid of one. Its all about the money.

LA had nothing to do with implimentation of the NGE. It was all SOE chasing the WOW market. The only thing LA did was supply SOE with the content and give them (SOE the company who LA  trusted in) permission to develope a MMO. What SOE did with it after that was not LA fault but LA's mistake for blindly approving.

Star Wars has a massive fan following. Inorder for SOE to get SWG to the point where it currently is today the results tell a story of just how many Star Wars fans SOE pissed off. The result is SOE turning away fans who have stood in line 5 days to see Episode III but no longer want to have anything to do with a Star Wars game because of how badly SOE ran it into the ground.

Now that we have a crediable and dependable company such as Bioware calling the shots on a new Star Wars mmo, we might finally see SWG suffer the same fate as Old Yeller. A Bioware Star Wars MMORPG will do well just for the simple fact it is Star Wars. Also it will help that unlike SOE,  Bioware has yet to make an ass of themselves in the mmorpg community.

-SOE amazes me with their arrogence and on the day Smed gets fired i want to be first in line to give him a swift kick in the ass.

You can bet Bioware will be getting a few subs from me with a KOTOR mmorpg release.

Don't get to excited though guys!

As everyone is aware from my past posts i left SWG a long while ago.

I have two friends who played the game since launch with me. I can honestly say they have stuck with the games through it's ups and downs. When NGE hit they were ticked off like everyone else but tried to stay with the game. After my departure these two continued to give SOE a chance to redeem themselves. Ever since i stopped playing SWG they would try to entice me to come back and every once and a while i would go back just to see what the game was like only to turn around and walk  right back out the door.

Last week when AOC was released i told them to go get it and give it a try. I was in AOC Beta and while the game has it's up's and downs like any other MMO, it  does show promise. Well needless to say my two friends both purchased AOC and to my surprise finally un subbed from SWG. "for good"

To me this is a sign of the times. For these two players to finally leave SWG it shows me even SWG's loyalist of fans are starting to turn their backs, run and head for cover. While i have decided AOC is not for me, i'm glad me trying it was able to make my two friends happy and take a few bucks out of SOE's wallets. I never thought these two would end up retiring their sabers but to my surpirse they have.

I spoke to them yesterday after they had been play AOC for a full week and they now see what a mmo is suppose to be like even if it is not perfect. They now both agree SWG will soon suffer the same fate as the famous X-Wing piolet Porkins.

Just wanted to share this might bring a smile to some of our forum members faces

Sorry for spelling and grammer i'm half way out the door on my way to work

Some times back in the day when Luke and Vader would land in cornet there would be two Lukes or Two Vaders. Eventually one Luke and one Vader NPC refused to SUB and now there back to one.

It's pretty bad when the NPC's dont renew their subs...or wait was that just one of games many bugs?

I actually checked this free vet thing last night. One of my accounts has it but the crazy thing is the one that i had played since launch (with my pre cu jedi) does not. I know the charecter is not purged because in my account screen it says charecter is not deleted but waiting to be reactivated through sub.

I did log in throught eh free trial on Bloodfin last nght. It was around 8:30 eastern. I flew from dant MOP to Eisly and counted 15 people on line most of whom were afk.

From there i logged out and do not plan on logging back in to help SOE fudge their numbers.

Every once and a while i find myself saying "perhaps i should give it another try". Tonight was the closest i came to subbing in a long while. Before i did though i thought about how many times SOE lied to us and how the only thing that matters to them is $14.99 a month. From there i had talked myself out of it. Bored i went to an old watering hole the swg forums. There i saw a op complaining about so many toons afking in game now that it was disrupting his game play. All in all i though, "wow SOE still doing what they do best." What bothered me most though was scrolling through the rest of the thread the next 20 posts afterwards were a bunch on fanboi's flaming the op for syaing players should not be able to AFK grind loot areas.

I walked away not only saying that i was glad i did'nt give SOE 14.99 again only to slap me in the face but that i will not be playing with the creatons who play SWG these days.

Sorry for the scare guys....i'm ok now. If i ever feel that way again i will make sure to get in touch with some of my friends in this forum so they can kill my dog, rape my wife and stick me with some used hypodermic needles before i ever think about subbing to a SOE game again.

I hear fallout 3 is looking good though

This is going to be so sad to watch SOE destroy this poor saps family just like they did our communities with NGE. I wonder how they will do it. I heard Smedly f$%^&d her!

Find someone she knows or introduce her to someone she will like as a girl friend whp plays. She will get sucked in quicker then you can say Jealous for these two reasons.

1. Curiousity- about why her friend likes the game

2. Jealousy- that you might be spending more itme having fun online with her friend

Has worked for me. unless your girl friend is high maintence then you fugged

Actually, you do get to play Darth Vader, and, its at the beginning where Darth is looking for a secret apprentise to train to fight the last remaining jedi between the movies III and IV.

So, its set before A New Hope, and The Return Of The Sith

From my understanding different consoles will have differnet options for the game. Last i heard the Wii will have a vrs mode where you can be Darth Vader. I have not heard anything about being Vader in the actual story line of the game.

I pretty much got all my off  www.theforce.net

i don't know how reliable it is but thats all i have gathered

Is it maybe possible that SOE has done some search and seen that most if not all of there players pay by credit card?so inturn would be pointless to keep making gamming cards so have stopped this,so in turn would save money?

Another thing, why are so vets hoping and praying this game closes,I mean I hear alot of players hoping they will still go back to the old swg,ofc this cant happen if the game folds, but also and more importantly ...why do you care? you dont play anymore so why bother now?is just a game, maybe time to move on...

SWG shut down long ago.

It's the end of the NGE we are rooting for.

Again,I know this is a touchy subject for you guys but,why care?

You dont play anymore, you have nothing to gain except for to say,"lol I know it wouldnt last"

They ruined the game you loved, but how long ago was that now?

Honestly wars have lasted less time,do you really want to be on your death bed still asking why they did it?

Anyway I myself did play swg many a moon ago and I really hope the new bioware title is indeed a new star wars mmo,but I wont waste my life bitching on what was and still should be,Thats for sure!

I still care because i gave SOE around $2000.00 of my money over the course of three-four years playing a game i loved dearly. As a community us vets begged SOE to roll back, started petitions, polls, threads and made as much noise as we could. SOE (SMEDLY) heard and decided to not listen and asumed we would just come back like most did after CU.

We know SOE heard us and the blatently ignored us!

I feel as if Smedlys boss knew or understood what actually happened Smedly would be canned in an instant. Since then all the response from SOE have been cover ups/ lies about subs and snide remarks towards the veteran coomunity.

Also lets not forget Tiggs. A community manager who stuck up for the SWG community (mainly us Vets) and lost her job because of it. I did not know Tiggs personally or even through the forums but have been told by members of the community who knew her what happened. I also have read her blog about it.

If you grinded a pre cu Jedi you would understand why we are still talking about this! I doubt ill ever purchase a SOE product let alone a Sony product again.

I want it shutdown because that means SOE failed and lost a ton of money as a result of screwing myself and many other loyal customers over.

When it comes to absolute canon, the real story of Star Wars, you must turn to the films themselves — and only the films. Even novelizations are interpretations of the film, and while they are largely true to George Lucas' vision (he works quite closely with the novel authors), the method in which they are written does allow for some minor differences. The novelizations are written concurrently with the film's production, so variations in detail do creep in from time to time. Nonetheless, they should be regarded as very accurate depictions of the fictional Star Wars movies.

George Lucas in an Interview:

STARLOG: "The Star Wars Universe is so large and diverse. Do you ever find yourself confused by the subsidiary material that's in the novels, comics, and other offshoots?"
LUCAS: "I don't read that stuff. I haven't read any of the novels. I don't know anything about that world. That's a different world than my world. But I do try to keep it consistent. The way I do it now is they have a Star Wars Encyclopedia. So if I come up with a name or something else, I look it up and see if it has already been used. When I said [other people] could make their own Star Wars stories, we decided that, like Star Trek, we would have two universes: My universe and then this other one. They try to make their universe as consistent with mine as possible, but obviously they get enthusiastic and want to go off in other directions."

In 2000, Lucas Licensing appointed Leland Chee to create a continuity tracking database referred to as the "Holocron". As with every other aspect having to do with the overall story of Star Wars, the Holocron follows the canon policy that has been in effect for years.

The Holocron is divided into 5 levels: G-canon, T-canon, C-canon, S-canon, and N-canon.

G-canon is absolute canon; the movies (their most recent release), the scripts, the novelizations of the movies, the radio plays, and any statements by George Lucas himself. G-canon overrides the lower levels of canon when there is a contradiction. Within G-canon, many fans follow an unofficial progression of canonicity where the movies are the highest canon, followed by the scripts, the novelizations, and then the radio plays.
T-canon[1] refers to the canon level comprising only the two television shows: Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the Star Wars live-action TV series. Its precedence over C-Level canon was confirmed by Chee[2].
C-canon is primarily composed of elements from the Expanded Universe including books, comics, and games bearing the label of Star Wars. Games and RPG sourcebooks are a special case; the stories and general background information are themselves fully C-canon, but the other elements such as character/item statistics and gameplay are, with few exceptions, N-canon.
S-canon is secondary canon; the story itself is considered non-continuity, but the non-contradicting elements are still a canon part of the Star Wars universe. This includes things like the online roleplaying game Star Wars: Galaxies and certain elements of a few N-canon stories.
N-canon is non-canon. "What-if" stories (such as stories published under the Star Wars: Infinities label), game statistics, and anything else directly contradicted by higher canon ends up here. N-canon is the only level that is not considered official canon by Lucasfilm.

End of canon discussion now please, I think that should suffice.

And as for this being a great polished game, I'll remember that the next time I see the vid with 2 Stormtroopers holding hands in mid air or trees SPLINTERING after being hit with a lightsaber. Also for what it's worth, Euphoria and Havok are being used widely in numerous games, they aren't exclusive to The Force Unleashed, in fact GTA 4 uses it.

Intresting find here! sorry to bring canon up again in my last post but it needed to be said.

The Force Unleashed

Might be a fun console game, you get to play Darth Vader!

Looks Stupid actually! One could expect this kind of garbage from Julio Torres!

Over Sensationalized nonsense for simple minds turing Jedi into the Matrix..

Im sure the kiddies will love it but IMO its over kill and really screws up the Jedi Lore.. I mean cmon bringing down a Frikkin Star Destroyer?? if this was the case all Yoda had to do Since he was actually one of the strongest Jedi Masters go to the first Death Star and Rip it to shreds and boom turing episode 4 into a 2 minute adventure... i could go on and on but you all get the point! and if you dont well this game is made for you i guess!

Jedi Where far from super heros and in fact most of there skills are passive so no im not to exctited about this game i think that the JK series was the pretty damn good and will never be beat.. i think JT needs to stop messing with the SW lore and Lucas needs to stop trying to be so hip and cool for the new generation and dump these retards he has working for him wanst killing SWG enough..

You have no fucking clue about the "Jedi Lore". Jedi have always had the ability to do amazing feats. You sir are only versed in the theatrical lore of Jedi's. In many StarWars books they say a sith lord (forgot which one again) had the power to drain an entire PLANET of metaclorians. Luke Skywalker in one of the books had the ability to rip the engines right off a star destroyer AND had the power to control the force so much, he was able to float from stupid heights. There are MANY MANY more feats Jedi/Sith were able to do that were just as/even greater than "pulling" down a simple cruising Star Destroyer. Jedi are the Maxtrix x10

May i ask what books you have been reading?

Ok for someone that has read pretty much all of the books Luke never ripped the engines out off a star destroyer. Big tasks require strength in numbers. Life was drained from planets because there were so many sith. The biggest thing any Jedi's have ever done were when Luke's students force pushed an imperial fleet to the other side of the galaxie.Cool but even in canon one of them died in the process simply because his body was unable to support such a huge surge of the force. While Luke was able to float at "stupid hieghts" this is hardly comparable to dragging a star destroyer through the atmosphere to it's death or moving whole imperial feats across the galaxie.

The most outlandish displays of the force come when the Luke and his students start fighting the Vong. Even then the displays of force aggression are not only debated but limited in their power.

Not trying to flame but there is a person who is right in this conversation and a person who has misunderstood a lot of what they have read.

Ok so i found the original post moved to the tech forums edited to hell and and responses by other players now missing.

Same heading, when can i start paying for my game again??

Hi all
Message edited by genone on 04/06/2008 13:05:58.

I have changed my payment for this game and now i cant subscribe any more, so what am i supposed to do now apparently i will never be able to play this game again, in denmark where i live we have no visa page, we have no pre-paid cards and none of the banks in denmark are cleared for use of their cards through the new SOE subscriber page.

So what am i supposed to do..??? i have sent in a ticket to customer service hoping that they can resolve the issue seeing that i have used these credit cards for a long time paying for some of my accounts. But i doubt i will ever get to play my main account again and no i wont send money to a company that i aint trust 100% so paying for a pre-paid card and waiting 1-2 weeks for it to arrive is not an option.

Oh and the station launcher BETA dont work with SWG btw i can launch the game but it never logs into the server just keep saying connecting to server at the character selection screen.

sounds like this is a credit card issue but it is still intresting how with in 5 minutes of me posting on mmorpg.com vet refuge that soe deleted then moved this post.
