@umcorian - Yea, because 40 man raids are the complete list of what W* offers /end sarcasm

Let me direct you to this:

You just might find something you like that doesn't involve 40-man raids. Or maybe not. Either way, no one needs to "address why 40 man raids went away", if you can't hack it... you get the idea.

His point, which you completely missed since you went off on a tangent of the other things WS offers, is that 40 mans were a friggin nightmare to organize.  I like raiding, actually is the main driving force for me and MMOs however I am not gonna be making it a 2nd job nor do I want what it was like back in vanilla WoW.  The whole raiding thing is going to bite them in the ass or they are going to change their position or nerf the crap out of it.

And what that youtube vid lists is just promises, not like we haven't heard those before with every new MMO.

Times have changed... more people play mmos now.

Multi-hundred fleets are quite common to organize now in EvE Online... it's kind of like raiding :)

the problem with getting 40 man to play a raid, is that it needs to be exactly 40 people....  either you have to few people, or you have many people dissapointed they can not join that evening...  you allways need a few spares to sit by..

If they would have made the raids dynamically scaling and for 40+ people and for up tp 20 people, it would have been much much more easier to get enough people...

Smart developers indeed would have sought for a solution.... In this case they might face the same problems of Vanilla raiding, and the reason 40 man raiding did not survive might still be prominent...

Personally i loved a lot about 40 man raids... i was the healing leader of my raiding guild and fully engadged in setting up the strategies for those early WoW raids... But keeping a good team of 40 togetehr and allways on time was nearly impossible back then

The song is okay... But if you realise that the best themesong of any MMO was for one of the biggest failures in the industry, you know having a good themesong does not mean a lot

If you don't like the game, don't play!

Problem Solved!

The problem is much more complicated..

we are at a point in time where every experienced MMO player recognises the things he likes and the things he does not like.

No MMO is perfect,  and so every game release will have positives and negatives.

every game has things that want me to play the game

but every MMO also has things that i know upfront from that it will become major irritators wheenplaying the game

if i judge every gane by those negative aspects, i will never ever play any mmos again

so i judge them by the possitives and play them as long as the fun lasts.

So basically, i can still enjoy a game that isnt perfect...

sadly most people overhere just refuse the ganes that have any thing they dont like

and when they decide to play the game anyway, they are totally focussed on the negatives, so they dont even see the positives anymore..

its so damned hard to say if you like an MMO or dont.....

Wildstar is an exceptional artistic game. Combat feels smooth, dungeons & raids are fun.

Stop saying "we" u dont speak for the masses. I have yet to see anyone in the industry share your opinion. You & 2 of your buddies don't speak for the MMO community  :)

Edit: My bad, I thought you were being serious. The comparison to WoW is a red flag for a troll post.

There also is the fact that behind everything, its just another themepark that we are all sick and tired of, with preset paths your not allowed to deviate from and such, I bought wildstar even though I hate the races, quite frankly they look like shit and are horribly designed visually, but I am letting that slide for what may be the first decent mmorpg in years even if it is just another themepark ride. Though mostly its because I got it for 48 bucks off a website (they had a 20% off anything over 20 dollars in the store coupon at the time), and my best friend is running a guild in it I am a part of. If my friend didn't plan to play it, i'd probally not have bothered with the game at all. Whether I stay past the included month or not is another story.

Dont speak for others.... and start realizing that atleast 90% of the MMO population would hate playing a full  Sandbox game....

there is more then enough different ways to level in this game, to make it way less linear then other, espescially the story based  MMO´s

On PvP servers, in contested areas you will be open game to the enemy faction. On PvE servers you are safe, unless you flag for pvp. Instanced PvP is available to everyone regardless of server type.

But there are no special rules, or special PvP goals or settings on PvP servers (at release)

I would have sticked to PvE servers with an option for people to flag on PvP.....

So far different server types never really worked out well, because development in general just concetrates on the main server type (PvE)....  BEst example... WoW..

just having a normal server and flag it PvP does not add what the PvPers want....

Too all the "This game feels like F2P game" The amount of content they have in the game and planed for roll out. 200 staff already working on the post launch content. The have features most new MMOs dont add till 1-2 years after launch. Sub-Worthy. Love the housing system, cant wait to see what they do with guild halls.

This is what makes a sub really worth it.... monthly content updates, that unlike GW2 have actuall content. that players want to play....

For me that would be....

Obviously more content like open world zones, dungeons, adventures, raids, battlegrounds shiphand missions.. etc etc...

Some nice touches would be....

1)  a PvP mode that lets people build castles with dungeons under them complete with NPC mobs, traps and more, and then group them up with 6 other castles ... Each castle owner should get a party of 5 to join them....  there would be PvE goals like finding the opponents hidden treasure, and killing PvE bosses... and PvP goals like capturing the other parties throne room..

2) a PvP battleground that works like a MOBA, with 3 paths and NPC parties walking these paths... and with 5 heroes on each side..   (there allready is supposed an PvE adventure that works like a MOBA)

3) Mount race...  with several different tracks added over time

4) Poker... where people gamble with ingame gold.   Or maybe even a collector cards game like hearhtstone embedded in the game.

5) Movies introducing people to weekly events... watch the movie that tells a story and join the open world event...  I just love the humor and that would work very well as an introduction to the story behind an open world event..

Point is.... keep adding more diversity to the game, its currently a very strong point of the game.... and would make the game stand out even more..

However they should also add more customisation stuff

1) an AA system that allows people to aquire more skills to choose from.. and more passives to build somespecific things... If they made the AA system the core of their ballancing, it would work great..

2) Spell annimations... You can customise allmost everything, except how your spells look.......  imagine if the spell that currently summons a spider could be changed to summon a rat...  or the spell that that shoots blue fire from your guns could should orange fire or lightning...    only the visuals.

3) More stuff to customise housing, are trophies in yet?

4) currently mentoring allows you to push your level equally to your team mates..  I would love to see the system changed so it also allows you to change your level to the level of your current zone... volluntary, not forced...  combined with rewards that give people a reason to go back and do content..    espescially when playing at off hours, i have a tendency of going back to older zones just to solo some of the things i forgot about while leveling..

5) More costumes... currently you can have alternate armor pieces to show as you costume, just the visuals not the stats.. i would love to see an option to buy more costume slots... so it becomes easy to change your looks... looks are very important.. oh... and weapons are also part of your look....

So what kind of stuff would you like to be added over time........... since it will be one of the selling points of the game, i deem it important that players speak up what they want and expect....

So far here are my issues with the game...  keep in mind, that having so many issues does not make it a bad game, not at all, but there is allways room for improvement, ...  and they should improve some of them, because they can become really big irritators on the long run

5)There are only 30 skills for each class... there currently is no way to add new skills... Here they make the same mistake that GW2 did.  Meaning there is not enough character differentiation and progression for the long run. The elder point system is far from enough... tough, an AA system that lets people improve skills even further and add new skills to your box would be truely a miracle for this game.

10)Just having six classes is not enough on the long run... Many people love alting (espescially in raid game, when there are no raids) and six classes is just not enough... there should have been atleast 10 classes...  in my book, one more of the DPS/tank and DPS/heal... and then another two more defensive option of Tank/heal one of them more ranged and the other more melee..

So far these are my minor issues with the game, i hope they just can solve some of them over the long run.. Now we know they are planning monthly content upgrades... but do they also plan changes to the class system, so people can have more character customisation and progression.... No word on that yet....

i disagree with u on all.. first of all it was beta.. BETA = a test to see what bugs and what things need change... and also the game has been changed alot lately. and 30 skills yes there are 30 skills only for each class. but its the same as wow.. u dont need more then 30 skills.. and u can't compare this to Gw2.. Gw2 had what 10 skills for each total.. which wasnt good. but WIldstar will suvive so many years and it will be fun

Warrior  tank/dps same skills only a few different.

You realise you can only equip 8 skills at the same time?

Well if you don't like only 8 skills, then why play ?

Ya know, its OK to skip over an mmo now and then, you don't really have to play every one !

Did you even read what i said?

The issue is not with only 8 skills, because that is basically set in stone and will never change, its a proven thing that allready worked well in games like EQ and GW1....  The issue is with 30 skills that you choose from, and where youa re stuck with for the rest of the game...    One of the most fun parts of an MMO is aquiring new skills and finding ways to use them in my set-ups.  In Wildstar it currently looks like you are stuck with those 30 skills for quite some time....

You want more skills and passives? I'm guessing you've been playing MMO's for a long time now but still you don't realize that the more abilities and passives you give to different classes that have different playstyles, the more difficult it will be to make a balanced game where all the classes are competitive?

Not really, you can also use the new skills you add as a ballancing mechanic....  and the more skills you add, the more different builds become viable, combined with  the standard rock/paper/scissors ballancing this gives people reasons to create new builds to counter the so called flavour of the month builds..

Ballancing has never been about making all classes and builds just as strong... because that is virtually impossible..   adding more stuff will actually be benneficially to the ballancing...

I am with you OP...

But as said by others... somehow MMO releases are either magical... or a dissaster...  And hard to resist.

Never got past level 10 in beta to keep stuff fresh, but if the game opens up around level 20 as prommised, and the monthly content patches are big enough... it might even be the game that keeps us playing...  Because they tried to create content thats challenging and some fun to repeat...   Which in the long run works better for the longlevity of an MMO then fully story based content that is fun to play once. Personaly i like both types of games..

But if this is an MMO to stick, We will know more about that in three to six months.

People calling this a WoW clone have not played the game... They base their opinion entirely on the graphics...  And the fact that there is Quests, Dungeons, Raids, Trinity and Battlegrounds  (which all are general MMO features and not WoW specific features)

People that have played the game should recognise that the whole game takes much of the MMO gaming to a whole new level, it mostly moves in the opposite direction of all the other major MMO releases of the last few years.  And tries to reinvent and innovate content and combat.

Sadly, most people calling this a WoW clone just want to tell us that this game is a true MMO at its core.

I really love their weekly Nexus videos...

Very nice find, every alliance has 5 zones... And there are 6 fracking huge contested zones

Another nice touch, artifact weapons...

and an adventure zone that works like a moba... And one that works like tower defense

cant wayt to see PvP variations of this..

Either the game didn't sell that much, or they are doing the exact same mistake Rift was doing, starting up with way too few servers and being forced to add lots of servers during the startup.

The problem with that strategy is that the initial servers will get insane queue during the first few weeks, and the last servers they added will be dead one month after launch.

They are not using the same server type. Wildstar's severs have a much higher capacity compared to the ones Rift used.

Heard that one before. I really hope its true this time.

If i was preparing for realese... i would have a dozen backup servers lined up...  just in case... but noboddy needs to know..

I would have added a multiculti EU PVE server....  Maybe 2
Awesome... All these little types of extra content in Wildstar...
That i allways forget to cancel them......  Just go booked for 3 more months LOTRO...

Lighrspire it is....

Here is anothr one this one gives a lot of info about interupt armor... and about moments of opportunity
