As a long time MMO player, starting with The Realm and EQ and DAoC etc. It's kinda funny to see people complaining about quests and quest hubs etc. I don't know it's its nostalgia clouding the truth of what those games were, but EverQuest and DAoC PvE was a brutal grind back in the day. Set up shop, kill the same mobs for three hours or so until someone left the group and then look for another group and repeat. There were other things to do, and that was all good, but I'd much rather do quests than spend an hour looking for a group, then another few hours killing the same mobs time and time again. Running around and doing things, however pointless, is at least something better than what it was.

That said, it would be nice to have some ideal game in which you could do whatever you like and not feel like you're being baited to go here and do this, but as far back as you look, most MMO's have this trend, whether it's systemic or an organic process. You didn't hang out in starter zones in those old titles past a certain level because you weren't progressing, so you moved to the next zone and so on. No one told you to do it, but you did it because it was the only thing you could do. Same process in theme parks today, it's just an overt process.

Really? EQ and DAOC, father of "themepark" MMOs (DAOC for leveling purposes) is your "defense"

I completely agree that intelligence insulting quests ARE better than completely sense ridden grind those had.

And who said anything completely against quests? BUT, quests like WoW started and now WS managed to devolve, quests that really insult your intelligence are BAD way to do quests. Quality over quantity. As in these quests are same EQ grind with xp reward after x kills (and turning to quest hub to skip ques text that seems to be written by 5 year old). Vast majority of people just skip it because, it just....sucks, it has no meaning at all.

Anyway, its waste of open world space, waste of developers time and waste of money to do it this way (as they slowly come to realize). GW2 made a step forward, i wish they made leap forward and got rid of levels alltogeher, but at least they did step forward unlike WS which managed to make step back from 2004 WoW.

Take it the way you want.... most MMO players prefer Quest based content any day above contentless so called sandboxes...  Most people want to be entertained and thats just what these Quest based MMO´s are really good up... espescially  WS, because next to lore and story, there is humor anyway, but then to take notice of this part of the game, that requires you to read..  And some gamers are just not good at reading..

I have come to the conclusion that instancing has no place in Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing game. These MMO's coming out nowadays are nothing to me but a large Co-Op game, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy Wildstar, I just take it for what it is.

Well.... its a technollogy thing... servers can only support that many people in a zone...  As long as there are  to few main city hubs with a social function, instancing is a requirement with todays technollogy

So what you are saying is you don't like mmo games. Why are you on a site called mmorpg.com then?

Once you've finished all the quests in f.i. a lvl 10-15 zone, it's totally pointless to return at f.i. lvl 30 or 50 - guess that's what the OP is complaining about. GW2 made a good step in the right direction to make all content meaningful also at max level, all though it's not perfect. However, should be possible to continue on that track, and make such a design even better.

Also; games that make questing the only viable way to progress - I just don't understand why they limit the options so much. They should balance questing, pvp'ing and flat out mob grinding equally, since there are people that like different play styles or like to do different things. Personally, I prefer questing - probably why I like ESO so much :)

and...GW2 is a mmo, isn't it?

Dont worry, they just want to spin weakest link of WS to "If you dont like WS quit MMOs" which is retarded, to be mild.

Quests are only way of delivering lore? Really? Really really?

And they forget the fact that things can be done good and done badly, and in WS whole open world and questing (which makes vast majority of it) is just not good. They manage to devolve something 10 years old.

And a fact that open world in WS is pointless, once youre out of the zone thats it, and endgame is composed of instances (lobby game with open world as waiting room, and mind you, since trinity is involved youll spend lot of time in that waiting room)

No WS is not what "MMOs are" its a clone of specific type within MMO genre (and thats a stretch due to lobby game nature of that type of MMOs)

The sad reality of a game on rails.

But the me and the majorrity of casual gamers just love this kind of games....  Nothing wrong with it.

you guys are a very small minority..

and i dont see any AAA games heading your way, because even EQN itselves will be all about this kind of gameplay, no real sandboxes comming up.

Had EQ2 released in its current shape...

It would have been a much much better game...

I was there, playing EQ2, when i got invited in WoW open beta..

The real reason

WoW was just more fun to play in every aspect of the game...

Sadly WoW never picked up the good things of EQ2 like housing, collecting, Guildsystem and their awesome AA system..

Which today makes EQ2 the better game, because they learned their lesson well and addapted..

Could it be that the goldfarmers have found the currently most effective method of leveling their bots ? Perhaps for sale later ?

Or is this just an example of the average MMO cheater in action ?

I would bet my mo ney on the first one

MMo´s are fun to play, so why bot?

Unless you make some real money from it?

I dont get this, what gamer would prefer using a bot instead of playing himself...

unless it are the goldfarmers leveling their toon.

can easilly be countered by making PvP XP based on peoples actions and actuall contribution to a game, and not based on being there...   Or just remove XP gains from PvP entirely... Because currently they seem to have the PvE botting under controll

I am so sick of this trend in MMO's. The "game world" is a pointless container for questing. I hate questing. If you ask me, quests aren't even content (at all).

So seeing as how the open world offers absolutely nothing worthwhile to the game, it's another instance fest where you have 2 BGs total (amazing!) and some PVE stuff.

Warplots are apparently a massive zergfest. Hell, 10v10 feels like a massive zergfest. WTF devs? This trend is starting to piss me off.

Please pack your backs and go play FPS shooters...

there is so much lore and content to be told with the questing, its incredible...  If you can not recognise that, you are clearly playing the wrong genre... Stay away from MMOs or atleast from themepark games, thats the only solid advice i can give you

Would you agree with this title? Its just a thought I had when realizing that the growing trend of adding sandbox features or open ended gameplay that is going on now. It didn't start until AFTER all the players jumping into Minecraft and clamoring for open worlds, living breathing worlds like Skyrim. Players have actually been wanting and talking about those things for a long time and it wasn't taken seriously until after the data comes in, that that is what players are buying. This spreads to game balance as well, not just with games that are made.

I would listen to (groups  of) players.... and then check my data to see if  there is some evidence of their statements in my data..

Datamining by Developers however is the most important ballancing tool...

https://forums.wildstar-online.com/forums/index.php?/topic/67883-bot-are-destroying-pvp/

There's nothing that will kill the competitive spirit of small scale pvp faster than joining a match and finding your team is undermanned because of bots.

I tought you where still playing ESo?

and no, its not that bad....  Espescially not on the eu servers

They dont even need to spam anything, all they need to do is buy and sell c.r.e.d.d.

How would that even work? Buy the creed and sell it for the same price? they made no profit, if they sold it for more, people would think "why the hell would i pay more when i can get it cheaper from carbine?" and you can't buy it then resell it from the vendor, it's bound to the account once it's bought.

Just buy cheap creed from players now and wait till the prices go up and start selling gametime to peeps ? or sell it for gold but at higher price. edit, hmm if its bound then it wont work that easily hehe.

edit 2.Well then goldsellers can atleast play the game for free and while they can play for free, normal players are paying their subs :/

Credd isnt profitable for them though. They cant sell credd back to the company for money. And even if they do sell the credd for more gold whos gonna buy their gold when their prices they sell them when you make way more buying and selling credd.

No but they can buy credd with gold and sell it for cash to other players for cheaper than the $15 for the sub.

Again you can't resell it, once you buy it from the vendor for gold it's bound to your account.

You are correct about that. Just looked it up. Didnt know they got bound after the first transfer. So I guess all you can do is sell gold for cheaper than the going price for Credd. Not very lucrative for these people.

Unless there are more people selling CRED then buying it...

I am pretty sure they will fight bots in the same way they will fight the goldspammers...  Both are part of the same problem...

Surprisingly not in the general chat channels...

they are using the ingame mailsystem

and they are using the arena PvP team invitations..

prices are mindnubling,  about €16 for 100 gold...

Let the battle and the reporting start?

Noticed this too, the reason they're not using chat is due to something carbine have set up which i think suspense an account, from what i heard, also there isn't a way to report mail. We will just have to wait and see what Carbine can cook up.

they added a report. Function to mail intodays patch

I will say, they're getting a little head of themselves with the price lol. This is coming from someone who hates farming and making gold (Was so poor in wow), making 100g isn't even that hard put an hour or lees in to farming or sell anything you get, and you could make that much or more. If it was 5 platinum then maybe lol

Here are things that I think would improve Wildstar: -

  • The difficulty of dungeons needs to be reduced, preferably down to about 20 minutes per dungeon run, and so that pugs can complete it the majority of the time.   this is what ruined WoW
  • The story quests, in fact all quests, need cut scenes and voice acting.  i am a big fan of this, however, the story telling and ways to immerse people in the lore that the game currently uses exceed my expectations by far
  • The explorer path allows you to climb things, but why not introduce some platformer element into them, some sort of puzzle where you need to jump.   sure my biggest letdown in GW2
  • Boom-boxes should be on sale in some sort of a shop that you spend cash on.   are you asking for an ingame shop?
These are the improvements I would like to see.  I am sure others will add more.

Are you serious?  This goes against everything this game tries to archive?

what the game needs is more of the great things that are allready there..

only 2 dungeons during the leveling, is not enough, espescially when people start alting

same goes for adventures and PvP zones..

they also need to allow people to dynamically level downto the zones level, when soloing, just to keep all that content challenging

they need more  events.. And bigger ones..

and most of all, they need more character advancement, the elder points are a laugh... They need a fullfledged AA system by the end of the year..

5 buttons....

Basic

1. jump (with double jump)

2. duck (crouch when hold)

3. sprint

4. Active evade

5. Weapon swap

------------------------------------   same 5 buttons combined with [Shift]    (left bar)

1..4 are builders ... weapon based

5 is the finisher

((Think DCUo weapon with 4 instead of 2 builders))  You can set up your own combinations and attach skills to them..

-------------------------------------  same 5 buttons combined with [ALT]   (right bar)

1..4 clickable skills

5 interaction with the world // interactive combat button....   (changes buttons on left and right bar)

-------------------------------------------

1..5 Left :   interaction with the world .... grab stuff... special attacks on the mob based on opportunities the mob gives

1..5 Right :  interactive combat... reactionals based on the combat... stuff like skills that require special circumstances like crits, blocks dodges etc etc...

Basically you have 10 buttons...

you have direct accessible skills

you can build combos

you can switch weapons..

but most important ... you can interact with the gameworld during combat... stuff like grabbing a chair and hitting someone on the head comes to mind...  its interactive, and will never feel the same

Would also work well with a controller...  the 4 buttons with the R1 key would replace 1..5

And the L1 and L2 key would replace the Shift and Alt keys..

Leaving R2 for Menu choices...

Long long time ago, there was one MMO that everyone played and loved, and they sticked with it for a long long time, because there was no competitition and nothing to compare it to..

these days there is an MMO for every taste, and yet they are all not special enough, because we all want that special MMo that offers us exactly what we want, the perfect bit... untill we all realise it will never be perfect, most of us will never ever enjoy an MMO again..

So basically no MMO will have the same potential as the early released MMo´s that everyone played, untill we realise this, people will feel dissapointed with every one of them..    The most important thing however for success is high quallity and fun gameplay, so people are actually having fun playing again..

I bought both games and they both are awesome games... Still can´t choose...

Wildstar, is the better game, tough i dont seem to be able to find the perfect class for me....

Elder scrolls has the better class system...

0. DDO Multiclasses

1. Bard (DAoC)

2. Bloodmage (Vanguard)

3. Mentalist (DAoC)

4. Druid (EQ)

5. Warrior (WoW)

This thread is about how people can turn any possitive intoo a negative...

Is it difficult really what some people call difficult or even 'hardcore'? From what I've heard, leveling is quite easy in this game.

Anyway, with all this talk about difficulty, I might end up buying this one.

The "leveling" in Wildstar is no more difficult than WoW or SWTOR, but its group content on the other hand, much much harder.

Not true...

There is way more danger, they are mixing up elite mobs and superior mobs with the normal mobs, and there are patrolls that easilly add to a fight...  and when you are unprepared for adds, prepare to die...

However, there is much difference in challenge between the different classes..  If you play a Medic, it feels a bit easier then on my Esper or Spellslinger
