You can not compare an AAA MMO. With a MOBA...

- creating a MOBA only costs a faction of creating an AAA MMO.

- MMOs are about character development, MOBAs are about fixed characters...  The best and best looking stuff in an MMO should be ingame stuff... Otherwise it makes character progression useless..

i think the introduction of patron status to rift, pretty much proves that the only viable way to make money with MMO´s are subscriptions. All FTP that are doing okay or better make their most money from subscriptions and now rift is setting a step in that direction too...

Playing games for free is an illusion...       For me FtP is in most cases just an extended trial..

And game withouth subscription like GW2 are struggling financially, and trying to find new ways to make money.

I think where FtP wors great for a MoBa, AAA+ quallity MMO are just way to expensive to make money withouth subscriptions.

Pretty accurate list however

- EQ2 is missing, while its still one of the best MMOs

- TSW should be ranked higher, maybe even top 10

- FF14 on 2nd place is something i can not understand..

but then again lists like this are allways about personal favour

basically i would rank WoW, Gw2 and EQ2 as the best MMOs

and TSW, Neverwinter, DDO, lotro, ESO, wildstar, DCUo as a broad group of also great games..

thats my personal ten best....  But ranking them more detailed then this is useless

Mmmm. Sounds okay. DAoC had the same kind of weapon > armor vulnerabilities. I don't see how putting action combat on top of that will make it any better that what has already been done. Was hoping for a gameplay video of some new game I had never heard of, but looks like maybe it's in the idea stage still? Needs to some work to pitch to someone if they are trying to secure funding.

Seems the game is in very early alfa, its an indie game, and they are releasing information slowly to get  as the game is not released any time soon...but somehow it sounds prommising to me...

and i do think the combat system might become that blend of action and real time tactical desigens i have been hoping for, seems to have much more real time defensive options then current games...

Seems finally a company takes the risk of making a melee combat system tahts more of a real time medieval combat simulation, then an MMO...  I know many people including me, have been looking forward to  a system like this..

I hope they can pull this off and make a great game, they peeked my interest with this video and i cant wayt to hear more...

Enjoyed playing both games...  I really believe Gw2 was an improvement over Gw1...

yet still missing some things from Gw1, which would have made Gw2 a better game.

- skill collecting

- multi classing

- some of the PvP forms

- a true healer class..  ( or. Healer builds )

Skill collecting was incredibly fun and multi classing gave so much options, but it was a nightmare to balance and even with so much diversity there was always 2 or 3 meta builds for each class that everyone were using, just like it is in GW2 now where you have much less options.

You can be very effective healer in GW2 with Guardian and Elementalist, however mobs are designed that way that it's just not worth it. Current zerk meta is popular because of the mob design. In GW1 each mob had a whole set of skills and builds just like players, so sometimes if you had wrong build it was impossible to complete some content. You had to prepare your (and your team) build for each unique encounter. In GW2 you just roll the general meta build or any build and any content will be done sooner or later. GW1 punished you severely for bad builds. I wish that mobs are designed more like in GW1, until then DPS is the only way to go.

The whole ballancing problems in GW1 came from a flaw in their design...

I think as long as you dont want t ballance all possible builds, and just ballance thos builds that are obviously to strong or to weak, you will do allright,  rock, paper, scissors works miracles here too....  If they build an AA system around skillcollecting including crossclass abbilities and traits...

Playing both this and WoW, and having fun in both games...   As they are very different from eachother.

same problem tough as at release, cant really choose a class as they are all extremely fun but none of them is perfect...

try elementalist, most fun imho.

Currently leaning towards elementalist, engineer and thief...

engineer and elementalist for the diversity

thief for the wonderfull initiativ mechanic

Who cares if its called an MMO or not.

everyone should read the game descriptions and decide if they think it is fun or not...

TSW is the best MMO ever made

Lets keep it modest, its a very fun game very much worth the money, for those people that like to get involved in awesome modern time stories, the game is actually a must play...

personally i could really enjoy the gameworld despite the fact that i tought the actuall combat was medicore at best

I agree.

Its actually on par with some singleplayer rpg stories. And the new zones are amazing.

Still, without actual character progression (new skills, levels) it all feels pointless to me.

I wouldn't say pointless but you are right that we need new skills.

And skills you just can't buy for gold or skillpoints but actually have to cap or do things to get. I think I have like 400 skillpoints on my main and I already have gotten all stuff for legendary and a bunch for ascended gear and other stuff as well.

I have been promoting this since before release, the game needs some kind of AA system..  Preferably a system you cant max at all..

I just can't get into it, having done both chapters now.

The story has improved immensely and the graphics are stunning. I like the new events, albeit I dislike the jumping, and it seems like a huge improvement over season 1. But still, I can't get into it.

Guild Wars 2 doesn't feel like an MMO to me, it feels like an interactive movie. When there's a new update, you play through it for an hour then put the game away till the next update.

There's no reason to login on a daily basis and there's no reason to group with anyone or form any kind of a meaningful relationship. It's a single player game with free bi-weekly DLC that just happens to be online.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but this pretty much sums up where GW2 is right now.  Ever since the Living Story was introduced, it's been taking precedence, and resources, over the other facets of the game, that is largely being ignored.  People who love story will be happy though.

Thats because there is no character progression at max level, this goes for both PvE and PvP, WvW is nothing but mindless zerging and killing with flawed goals but no progression,  PvE has no character progression adn there is no gear progression...

to make it a true MMO that keeps people playing, they need to add mild gear progression, and some kind of AA system that rewards both PvE as WvW.  ...i have been saying this since before release...

And offcourse more group content like real dungeons for single and multi groups...

Specifically, they said they'd love to make S1 replayable, but they are currently not working on making that possible. If you consider the way S1 worked and was rolled out, it doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon, and even if it did, it would probably be only the story instances, not the larger open world events.

On the positive side, that also means you're probably not going to have to fix road markers again :)

I'd be more than fine with just the story parts.

My biggest beef with playing GW2's story at the moment is that it feels like I'd be starting to read a novel with a chapter ripped out here and there. Not exactly a fun prospect.

It'd be a lot easier if I was one of the players that only cares about end-game content and skips all the story parts...but alas, I'm not.

I quit the game halfway trough season 1, not liking the living story content was one of the main reasons..

now i started playing season 2 and played the first chapter, and it absolutely feels like what i loved about the personal story parts of the main story.....   Yes its linear, but i never cared about that...  I am traveling the world again, meeting people listening to NPC conversations and enjoying the dynamic content and the new story based season 2 ...

I agree, this season is off to a great start in total contrast to season 1.  I like the story , the events and the new areas.  Also new weapon skin not in the gem shop.   well done.

also 200 gems to play what you missed  is not that much gold (maybe 25 G) so if you missed the first episode, it is worth doing.  Also if you don't want to pay gold or gems for the episode, you can do the story with some one who has it unlocked, you can see the episode just not unlock the achievements.

On my server currently 200 gems is about 15 gold.....

now i am wonderiing, is it 200 gems for each chapter you missed,  or 200 gems for all content you missed

Well, with me its exactly the other way around, playing GW2 for over nine monehs made me realise how important the trinity tactical layer is to make combat more structured...      Problem with Gw2 is they removed a tactical  group layer, that was responsible for group cohesion, with nothing to replace it....

i think the perfect game will be somewhere in the middle of what Gw2 is trying and the oldfsshioned hard trinnity.    But in every bossfight, there need to be some tactical group cohesion,  that forcess people to play together and crack the fight, and not just spam their elitist single player skills...

a good way would be to add it in th AI, the more intelligent a creature, the harder they will be to taunt....  Intelligent creatures might go for those who heal the ennemy most.....  While the very stupid creatures might go for those putting the most hurt on them, but never for the healer...

they should add true healers..... And add another condition, that taunts  NPCs, and works like swtor taunt in PvP...

Still, without actual character progression (new skills, levels) it all feels pointless to me.

This is my problem also.  I loved the game, I leveled several characters, played some of the endgame for a year, and then.... yeah.  Character progression is still very important to me and GW2 just doesn't have it.  I don't know, I guess it's a subtle psychological difference, because your WoW style progression is just gear upgrades over time, but somehow that carrot is still important for long term motivation.

I'd love to see GW2 develop some long term character progression.  I understand the negatives for this and the power creep involved, but still it would be nice.

I think we desperately need a middle ground between WoW's vertical progression gear treadmill and GW2's apparent lack of progression whatsoever. I was definitely disgruntled when ANet added Ascended gear because it reeked like WoW's gear grind that ANet promised multiple times in GW2's development that they would be avoiding. I think they need to get creative and come up with a new way to progress our characters without turning it into yet another gear grind. If ANet wants to brand GW2 as the alternative MMO, they need to come up with a new way to progress our characters that hasn't been done before instead of just pumping out more grindy events for cosmetic skins.

I really wish a game would tackle end game like EQ1 did.......with an enormous AA system. I like a little gear grind to keep the feeling of progression, but I absolutely love EQ1s AA system. There are so many different things to spec into, and it keeps players playing to get that little added upgrade.

Precisely, this game needs an AA SYSTEM, and a good one...  Something  that works like the eternal carrot, something that you never each the end with....    With GW1 in my mind, i think it would be awesome if they based it on crossclassing skills and  abbilities...

and while after two years, i still very much believe  this is the best game released since WoW...  It still lacks some essentials...  In top down order, here is what made me quit playing....

- progression at max level, preferably not a gear only treadmill...

- trinnity, the current group play sessions in pve allways make me feel that with the removal of the trinnity, they removed a tactical and a strategical layer from the game, withouth adding any real mechanics to replace them...

- epic Quests, i love epic quests, and after finishing the personal story, there was nothing there to keep me continueing my chracters, its where the living story failed for me ( i hope season 2 fixes this)

- a reason for WvWvW...   For me it was just mindless keepzerging.. And noob killing

- big boss battles are way to static...

and i am pretty much sure, most PvE players agree with me on this...

Luckily, tjis is where the payment model shines, and where you can alleays return to the game, and so i found myself pulling my  80 elementaliist trough lower level zones to get the hang of the combat system again.....  Quickly realising again how much there is to like about this game.... Most beatifull mmo world ever, best character annimations, best solo pve and instanced pvp combat. I love the world design with the dynamic content.

Now add some AA system,  make dungeon play more fun, add more and better stories,  And ime and my friends will be back to stay.

Some call it moneygrab, i prefer the name survival mode for this payment model

Normal sense...

Just wondering where everyone currently is at......   There are so many choices, good choices and fun games available, yet none of them perfect...   Personally, i am still where i have been for the last three years or so, i call it the grass is allways greener syndrome..... When playing MMO A, i miss feuture X, when turning to MMO B that has feurture X, i miss feature Y, turning to C and D...  It never stops..  Yet all those games are actually fun enough to play, yet not perfect enough to stick with..

what MMO are you currently playing and why?
