I predict that GW2 will sell 3 -5 million boxes in the first year...  Maybe even more.

By the end of the first year it will have more active players then WoW in europe and US.

Story. At least that's the thing I most want from an expansion to GW.

Well, basically the way they design story, i think they will bring mini expansions as DLC that consist out of a long piece of story that finishes in a new dungeon opening up exploration mode for that dungeon.

Maybe those downloadable mini expansions will also have a new open world zone that opens up as free content for all, but the story itselves will travel through different zones to, just to prevent those new zones from getting to busy.

Thats atleast how i would do it. give people a new open world area filled with DE's for free and then sell them an adventure/dungeon package for about $15.

2) No race/class/faction restrictions.

Gosh - that had to be hard for them to program.

That's the problem with these video games and why they are not mmorpgs.  Race, class, faction restrictions mirrors epic content.  According to this, you'd prefer if the Tolkien books had Hobbits and Elves killing each other - you do realize the stories would have been crap, right?  How about jedi vs jedi?  Or when they made pacman they should have just let pacman battle it out against miss pacman.  That would have been less restrictive lol.  Or in Star Trek, wouldn't it be much cooler to see the Federation just killing itself on Earth? Or maybe a guild could be Romulan, Vulcan, Klingon, Human, vs a Vulcan, Romulan, Klingon, Human guild.  Man that's GW2 in a nutshell there.

This is not epic - this is simple minded gaming mechanics.  So to answer the OP 's question, there's nothing here that hasn't been done a dozen times already.  It's just a carefully marketed Asian grinder if you really look at its concept, animation, and overall focus on appealing to an overseas Asian market (billion + strong).

Why it's so hard for kids and a good portion of pre age 30 players to get that epic warfare is about pitting different cultures and races against one another.  Anything less is either gang banging bs (which I can just turn on the news to hear about), or just plain laziness on the part of the developers who continue to cater to the undereducated and easily gratified.

I get that a lot of folks get high and login. This is not fair to the rest of us who are educated, well read, individuals.  Smaller minded folks are always going to gravitate toward the easiest "if it's red it's dead" mentality.  When are these companies going to make something really epic?

In the case of GW2, why even have lore?  Are you telling me that the Sylvari and Asura are going to kill each other?  Are folks really so simple minded that that type of "lore" even remotely makes sense?

Sylvari + Asura

vs

Human + Norn

vs

Charr + insert new race

Now that's epic.  But god forbid I get to fight a race or class that is different from half the folks on my team.

Rant over.

I know just the perfect game for you to find those racial restrictions.

Its DAoC. I would go back there as i think you are trying to recreate DAoC.

Personally i think DDO has a very deep and intrigueing set of customisations and multiclassing options

And EQ2 has an incredible AA system, but it doesn't allow to much crossclassing.

But other games these days have the nature of keeping things easy and not to deep, which is a waste for the old time min/maxers like me.

NPC factions that fight each other is a grossly underused feature that I wish more MMOs would use.

Makes the world feel more alive, as if it's actually a place where things are happening even when no players aren't around.

What would have been even better if in some events people could have joined either of the 2 fighting NPC factions. And turn the batle intoo a PvP feast.

Unless for you "get a job" crowd, 50$ is considered nothing, or "free", for a 10.1000th time:

50$ is not free, so it is not free to play

I payed 55 euros for the EU version digital download  thats over $70..

Anyway, this game is not free.  there will regular expansions that will cost just as much as the orriginal game. And because they need to make money, they will prolly have another expansion every year, and some DLC story mode adventures every 2 months or so. And then there is the cash shop.

Arenanet never ever stated the game would be free....

No i am not talking about gear and looks...

I am talking about skills abbilities AA paths and such...

What MMO allows for the deepest character customisation and allows the players most freedom when doing so? Which MMO's has most options for creating your virtual avatar?

Did we just make 40 reactions without any negative comments?

Everyone must be really in awe about this video.

People guessing as high as 500k-1 mil are forgetting that there is a huge gap between signing up for a free beta and pre-purchasing a game(without are release date, bladiebladiebla). I signed up for the Tera and TSW beta and have no interest whatsoever in buying these games at release, and I'd think it's the same for most people.

I think you are way off...

Dont forget beta signups only lasted 50 hours, GW2 is currently hot topic number 1 in every general chat from every MMO and in 90% of all guilds. Its hype flew so high that by now everyone wants to see and experience it for themselves.

Also,

Did anyone notice that the high grass and tall flowers actually MOVED in the player's wake?  When he walked throw high grass or flowers, they moved as if he actually ran through them.  No other MMO does that, not that I know of.  Or is it my now-aging Nvidia GTX 460.

Pure win.

That woman, forgot her name, that is the lead for world and graphic design or whatever deseres a friggin promotion.

Most newer MMo's do so, even EQ2 did as it was released at the same time as WoW.

I would love to see some numbers about how many people pre-purchased.

I am going to tweet them

[i just did, now wayting for an answer]

There is so much going on in this world all around you that you cant begin to take it all in from watching a video, the things you will wonder into (or should i say get yourself into) while just freely adventuring seem to never end..

I cant wait to play again and i cant wait to see thousands and thousands of gamers get to taste it for the first time but keep in mind one weekend blows by so fast it damages your brain and leaves you wanting and needing more of it..

This is the reaction from every average beta player so far...

I have seen some criticisme on the game from people that played, but never have i seen or heard anyone that was dissapointed about what he experienced. Its not going to be perfect, but its going to be a great experience for almost everyone.

This might be a game where I never wiki anything.

That, right there, is a big win to me.

Precisely..

I am going to take it step by step, and enjoy everyone of them, its time we're going to walk our own road again.

That zone was fracking huge, if it was a single zone.  If there are 25 PvE adventure zones as huge as this, oh my we're in for some surprise.

Well, he is not entirely false either.... the more i think about it, there is one thing from the normal 1-80 gameplay missing at level 80 and thats the feeling of progression. I think that might be a gamebreaker for some people. I am still not sure if i myself can live without any true feeling of progression.

Progression.. I remember progression.

It was not getting slightly better gear as you grind the same instances over and over, it was getting new abilities, AAs and raising your basic stats.

No MMO have launched the last 10 years with progression, at least not after the few weeks it takes you to max out your character. You don't get better, you just run in a hamsterwheel for the next tier gear.

Gear is not progression.

Progression is everything that makes your character stronger...  but somehow i agree with you that gear progression (espescially when its over the top) cant compete with other types of progression.

But there have been some games launched in the last 10 years with reasonable to very good non gear progression.

-EQ2 (AA)

-DDO (reroll new character with higher starting point)

-DCUO (weapons and skill points grinding)

-AoC (AAA)

Most of these however where added after release.   An AA system could be a great add for GW2 in an upcomming expansion. Where the AA system would allow for more freedom in character customisation and no more levels need to be added.  But we will see which road Arenanet will walk during the future.

With all these other high profile MMOs running ramparnt atm (SWTOR/TSW/GW2) I feel that TERA might just be that sleeper that makes a bigger spalsh than people are predicting. I tried out the CBT but didnt really get into it much as I knew my character was going to be deleted, I didnt want to get too attached. Now that Open Beta is upon us and we actually get to keep the character through to launch (normally unheard of) then I can really sink my teeth in.

This will be what Final Fantasy XIV and AION should have been (for the western audience) and I forsee a smooth laucnh.

Not to mention, it will knock Age of Conan off for being the best looking MMO. I simply have not seen better graphics (better than GW2 too) on PC, EVER!! Thats right, this has to be the most beautiful piece of electronic artwork I have ever seen!

If you have not seen it in action, you are missing it!

TERA for MMO GAME OF THE YEAR!!

I foresee the same route as SWTOR for this game, some people will like it but most will move on. Awesome combat system, great graphics but not much else to differentiate from the rest.

Just finished reading the Exploration in Guild Wars 2 article over on Guildwars2hub.com which I'll link here.  http://www.guildwars2hub.com/features/editorials/exploration-guild-wars-2  This was a very informative read and if you got a few extra minutes and are as big into exploration as I am then it will open up some very pleasant emotions IMO.

As someone who scores a 93 on the Bartle test for Exploration this article was amazing.  RESULTS BREAKDOWN: E.K.A.S.
Explorer: 93%, Killer: 60%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 27%

As being an ESKA, i must agree with that.

People will try to convince you GW2 doesn't have that.

Methinks they are wrong.

Endgame = what there's is left to do when you are done leveling.

Endgame doesn't have anything new available that isnt there during the leveling process.

Accept for having access to 99% of pretty much all the PVE content when you are 80. I am willing to bet that the coolest, most epic dynamic events with the most appealing unique rewards will be high level content. So unless you want to repeat the same old DE's in the starter zones and don't want to get the gear upgrades from dungeons at higher levels (see the point below), there is a clear incentive to progress here too.

Not really, you dont want to go back to repeat things (i hatre repeating the same things over and over) you want to go back to find and do the things you missed, like DE's, find skillpoints, explorations and such.

So far we've seen armor and weapon sets that can be upgraded with token like dungeon drops up to 5 times or so. That seems pretty progressiony grindish to me. Also the dungeons have multiple difficulty settings.

Thats true, but those drops are purely cosmetical

Nah I mean an armor and a weapon vendor; the token thingies could be used to unlock stats on those items. i.e. grindy content because you need to get enough of those token drops to get the most out of your gear. Don't have the link handy at the moment.

Then there's also the random stat itemization I think: getting the perfect gear for your playstyle with the perfect mods should take you a while (or a lot of gold).

this could be true.

Yeah, curious about it. Hoping there's loads of randomy stat goodness.

Also the dynamic event rewards you get aren't always the same: might take you some time to get the drops you really want.

This could be true, but keep in mind that those loot drops are also level based, personally i think that the dynamic event rewards come from a random loottable too. So you could get that item from doing a lvl 10 event just as well as from doing a level 80 major event.

Don't think so. I read about unique droplists for certain DE's and people doing them again because they missed the "good drop" everyone was doing it for.

Then there's going to be ranked structured pvp matches and all that too.

Which i can enter when i create a lvl 1 character and finish the tutorial, yes endgame, but avaialble from lvl 1

Yes. Structured pvp is the only aspect where your gear, skill availability and level won't be a factor. In this case "endgame starts at level 1" (Though it pains me to get that marketing line out my mouth :P ).

Of course WvW potentially is a never ending endgame.

Yes endgame, but available from level 1, you might be more powerfull at 80 but low level characters might be quite usefull espescially in the hands of a good player.

That's a lot of caveats and the "MIGHT BE" is crucial here. Personally I expect that skillset differences and gear differences will be a bigger factor in WvW and I also think that the stuff you'll get out of higher leveled dungeons and DE's will be very enticing carrots to work towards. The difference between uber and base gear will NOT be as big as in Swtor or WOW, but very noticable nonetheless I think. We can only wait and see :)

Well, we'll have to find out this by playing the game, dont tell me you didn't prepurchase?  We will know for sure in a couple of months.

Yes there will be endgame in GW2, and it will start at level 1.

For structured pvp: 100% true

For WvW: debatable: it is accessible but I expect people will want to unlock some more useful skills and get some better gear as soon as they get face stomped a few times by true level 80's. (Unless you are ok with being the ballista boy all the time).

For pve: 100% false

I disagree here somewhat with you, but thats mostly based on different expectations from PvE "max level gaming"  What i was trying to explain is that there will be instanced dungeons, DE's, personal story (and probably story/adventure  expansion packs) and exploration at max level, which is the same as there is at level 30. which even if you where true about max level DE's being so much cooler doesn't change the fact that they are DE's.

he is right and YOU are wrong. What you do at level cap doesn't change which was the point he was making. Endgame has nothing to do with your stats, is the activities that you do when you hit cap. And in gw2 at level 1 you can do WvW, PvP, DE, dungeon at 35.

Well, he is not entirely false either.... the more i think about it, there is one thing from the normal 1-80 gameplay missing at level 80 and thats the feeling of progression. I think that might be a gamebreaker for some people. I am still not sure if i myself can live without any true feeling of progression.

Yup, its true many of the great things from gw1 have been left out, esp when pvp is concerned :

No guild halls

No Observer mode

No GvG ladder

No ELO/rank system

No Hall of Heros

No Team Arena

more and more...

Now we dont know if this is due to release pressure or if they have been scrapped to make way for Anets vision of GW2, but its a real shame many of the things that made PvP great in GW1 have gone, lets hope they bring things back later, if the community calls for it .

It's disappointing A-Net hasn't brought back some of these features, especially since they said they wanted GW2 to be an e-sport.

Jesus guys, the game isn't even released yet, i am sure some if not most of those features will come some day in the future. Once and fore all people should realise that MMO's are worlds that keep on expanding.
