This is a linear event chain.... People are lead by the NPC's, felt very naturall, questing together with others by just following the NPC's. But why didn't they invite eachother to group and chat?

Can you guys imagine how awesome the bigger multi threaded evetns will be?

And this is how it all starts.

And then after release they wonder "Hey why do wow fans hate my game and are driving it into the ground?"

well this is why. You had your fun now calling our game bad, we'll have ours ruining yours.

player vs player. at its finest.

Acrtually, the trolls usually have moved on by that time, usually by hyping another game.

If what they write are to be trusted they have also "moved back to wow" as they write in their last post a few weeks after launch.

So it is very possible that the same people who trolled Wow a few months back will be trolling gw2 after launch.

Its the same group of people that did this with Warhammer, Rift, SWToR and so on.... They jump on the most popular game start cursing all other games... and when the game releases, they play for 2 weeks and move on after making anophter " cancelled my subscription" post.

Its not GW2 players... but its people planning to play GW2.

Well, nothing wrong with player created content, i'd love to visit a brothel where femme fatalles dance on poles, or where you can rent a hooker for 30 minutes...  Adding to the games economy, i would love to be the pimp pushing those poor souls around and taking their money...

30 minutes still is laughable for getting caught and being evil... And then they add some fun jail on top of that.

If you get caught, i wanna suggest a few real life weeks of your character being in Jail, with no way to escape....  Either that, or be carefull not to become evil or caught.

Noboddy is wayting for a low budget C Korean Fantasy movie...

I'd prefer Xena over this any day.

Well, on that particular aspect, you could implement three solutions:

  • Broken and working armor having the same looks
  • Broken armor vanishes
  • Broken armor looks broken
Out of those three, only the last one actually requires from the developers to denote resources (art in this case) to create a broken state for every piece of armor.

So, taking the two solutions that don't require extra resources, I'd rather my avatar did not lose an armor piece visibly when it breaks.

They can create an algorithme that damages armor real time.... which would cost PC resources, but not a lot of development time, maybe different algorithms for cloth , leather and metal pieces. If only applied to the 15 closest Players, it would not draw to much power in mass combat situations.

Isn't it 400 players per server per zone?  If so, then that means that 1600 players per server can be doing WvW at one time because there are 4 zones.

And then the battle moves to another zone and you cant join.........

Its said 500 or more players for WvWvW... nothing more or nothing less, its never been stated clearly ..  We have to wayt till the game gets out... there might be a max number of players for each side... if there is a 500 max, it would be unfair if a single server has more then 250 players.

But when your local WvWvW servers are full, there will be overflow servers with WvWvW to entertain you untill you reach place number 1 in the Queue for your local WvWvW servers.

Why not stop making videos at all... There is enough material around to give everyone a good idea about the game, lets quit making videos so the game still has some freshness at release.

All these so called beta videos are partly responsible for people growing tires of games quickly, because there is no surprises left and everything has been ssen and told before.

No its not an MMO, but lately it would seem many sites consider any game with online multiplayer to be an MMO.

They should get ther facts straight...... there is MMORPG's and then there is the rest of the online world.  Without an open world where people can roam freely, its not an MMO, SWTOR was on the edge of being an MMO, seems D3 just is no MMO after all.

So why did they decide to give Diablo 3 its own forums on MMORPG.com?

afaik they are making the game with westerns in mind not koreans, thats at least what Jake said.

If that were truly the case wouldn't they then have wanted their closed betas to take place in the west?

If you test a game with Koreans... obviously your feedback is going to slant to their preferences (for good or for bad)

Tend to agree here. The history of porting eastern games to the west is not exactly great. Sure there have always been some changes, but they' never seem to get past the basic differences between eastern/western players mentality:

RNG

 - This is one of the prime exit door openers. Whilst eastern players may love the gamble feel, it's just a frustrating game abandoning feature over here.

Random Number generators have a function in RPG's, in general if you dont like them there are other genres and games that suit you better, like FPS games.

Storyless Grind

 - Once the newness wears off this is the slow population killer, as players lose the desire to log on just to re-run the "kill 100 of xxx for a medal" - oh and by the way you need 500 medals for a weapon enhancement which may be wiped the first time you try to equip it.

Quests have grown old.... you need to give people other reasons to go out in the wilds and kill stuff.

No PVE servers

- Didn't work for Aion, just resulted in pve players getting ganked all the time. By the time NC messed around with the rifting, they had managed to lose a large number of both player types.

If there are no pve servers then the game will attract less people over here. PVP players may not mind that, but ultimately a smaller playerbase over here will lead to less western development, and less support for the players.

One dedicated server type to attract the players that love these games, in this case the game is here to PvP, PvP and PvP some more during the PvE

Western GM's

 - get the support right, not a couple of guys who's job is just to forward messages to a dead letter drop in the east.

Since i left EQ i havent played any other game that had decent GM's, i never need them and use them anyway.

One of these days an eastern game will sort the above issues out - then we'll see something with long term player retention.

NEver knew they where going to make it an MMO, allways tought that D3 would be a single player RPG, with an addon online mode.

The game is still being worked on hard but the features already in the game outweigh any of the MMO's in the last 6-7 years even if it was released in its current state.

They're still working on the combat system I don't know what they will do to it as I can't read Korean. The graphics are certainly top of the line even in this early build, the draw distance is huge and the mountains in the background look so real. My rig handles the game fine but options are limited in the build, I also play on lower resolutions than most people.

ATI 4890

You really need a new graphics card.

8GB ram

4.5ghz 2500k

How does Cry engine handle extra memmory and multiple CPU cores?

Also going through the client there is evidence translation into English is being done.

Things I think people are going to moan about:

Kill x amount quests, there's plenty of them but if the focus of this game is open world content who cares

Tab targeting combat, people playing TERA and GW2 will complain about this I reckon

Nothing wrong with tab targetting if the game is build around tactical choices and not so much about buttonmashing.

Thanks for replys, Shame theres no PVP servers, But after watching some WvWvW videos it does look awesome! Better PVP than any recent MMO i have seen.

DAoC had some PvP servers about 2 years after release, PvP there was never as good as in RvR (WvWvW)..  PvP servers quickly turn intoo a gank fest when people have no other goals but killing other players. Thats where WvWvW comes in.... its a full open world PvP, just in a sepperate world.

I'm pretty sure you can get to level 80 in GW2 within a week.  The press beta testers themselves got to level 30 in just two days?

Guild Wars 2 is Guild Wars1 enhanced!  Guild Wars 2 is the game that Anet wanted GW1 to be but they lacked resources back then.

They didnt get to level 30 in 2 days. The Level 30 Dungeon had an NPC which auto-leveled them to 30 to take part in it.

I'm pretty sure in some review, one magazine said they reached level 30.  Maybe I misunderstood them.

Still, if you figure 90 minutes per level, and the first 10 levels are probably in about 2 hours.... that's only 32 hours of gameplay for a weekend.  Perfectly doable!

You might be a little crazy at the end of it, but not impossible.

All levels from 1 to 80 will take about just as long. People reached lvl 10 in about 6 hours, now just the math is left and up to you.
Everyone gets pvp maxed after finishing the PvE introduction area
Its just a cinematic trailer
You cant say certain classes are better then others, in this game you need to think in builds... And certain builds will function better in situation A, while other builds rock in situation B or against buil X. On top of that, a bad build in the hands of a skilled player might still wreck havock.

Today i put some research intoo the game to find out whats all this fuzz about

-Graphics top of the line, scenery reminded me of Vanguard, but what kind of system is needed to show all of it in Mass combat?

-Annimations are okay, some mobs move awkward, character annimations look typical Korean, acceptabel by most.

-Class system, allows all possible freedom, i wish more games went this route. Just wondering if there will be some kind of AA system in place?

-Combat looked typical MMO, which i enjoyed over the last 14 years, nothing wrong there, or did i miss something, is this combat different from the target and click skills type we have known so long now?

-Siege warfare, looks awesome espescially the 50vs 50 combat. Tough when the siege engines started moving, they killed my immersion, they moved less fluent then Mario did in the orriginal donkey kong game. I hope you're not forced intoo moving the camera position way back to be competitive in PvP

-PvP all over the place... are all servers FFA?

-An open world, finally a game thats trying to recreate the Ultima online feeling with top notch graphics.

- Housing and building and crafting are not my things, i hope that people like me can still have fun without them. I am a nomad traveling around the world with no real place to stay, lets hope the game does not force people to build houses to get some bennefits that otherwise would not be attainable.  Just wondering how they plan to keep certain areas from overcrowding.

-Player ecconomy, i could not find much about this, i could play a merchent, lets hope for this game that the ecconomy is totally player based and that every single item in the game has its uses.

-PvE, seems somewhat underwhelmed, because all attention goes to the PvP, its hard to see how PvE will feel, but then with the new standards soon to be set by GW2, any PvE might feel underwhelmed. But then just traveling through the world and fighting what gets on your way might be fun enough if there are higher goals set then the bloody WoW simpleton quest system.

-If i understoof correctly, the starting zone is a jail, but the only thing fun inthere is that huge football you can kick. I dont want to hunt rats in a Jail, i want to be a heroe.

Please if i forget anything, add it to this post.

To bad i cant read Korean, because i think there is so much more information availlable in that language. This brings me to my biggest gripe with this game. So far not a single game developed by Korean game developers (GW is developed by Americans) made a grand appearance on the EU/US market. They al performed sub par and none of them made enough subs in the western world to be called a succes outside the initial box sales. So while all these video's from Korean games looked great and on paper the gamesystems sounded awesome, it could not capture a sizable western playerbase.

With this game currently being created for the Korean market only, i am really wondering how and when this game might reach the US/EU markets. What plans do the Koreans have to addapt the game to the English speaking world? Because it doesn't matter how good the game looks, it takes much much more to make the roght impression on the EU market.

If they manage to pull this off on the Western market, it could be the perfect game to play for me in combination with GW2. But for now i remain highly doubtfull.

It does not fulfill the needs of the majorrity of europeans, it will allways be a niche overhere in europe. On top of that, many will be turned of by the graphics and espescially the annimations.
